Milton was extremely professional and thorough with my concerns about my recently purchased tires from a different Pep Boys. He gave me a new tire and guided me correctly to where I had issues. DJ, however, was the girl with glasses who was very unhelpful and dismissive- seemly having pent up aggression which is evident from most of the people interacting with her. There's a way to say no politely and to guide the customer to a solution - not dismissing them rudely and misdirecting them. Just ask for someone else if you find her to be difficult yourself. I happened to get a good technician Patrick. Everything else was meh. I spent 100$ for the inspection as my car stalled in the middle of the highway and I had to tow it to the shop. Luckily this was one of the only closest shops open on Sunday and the tow truck didn't have to drive it that far. Veeery long wait. I had to wait for about 3 hours as they only had one technician on site who was expecting another car. Another guy came for an oil change at 8 am and got the car at 3 pm!!! Even though it took very long - i took my time to ask the technician everything about the car and any other possible problems with my other cars (i own a couple. I was lucky enough to have my stepdad help me understand the problem of the car (how owns a body shop) before those guys tried to upsell me on anything and everything. We figured that there could be something with the fuel pump and I told them all possible problems where they have to look first. - no gas (broken dashboard not showing right) - fuel pump wires not isolated right (i bought the car recently god knows what's been done to it) - fuel pump burnt. So basically I went to the shop for them to tell me I had no gas for 100$. To pump gas they would charge 22$ a gallon. I said hell no - I would rather go to a gas station 7 mins away, buy a canister for 20$ and get a gallon for 5$. Even though i am 3$ more - I at least keep a canister for the future. Overpriced. They also did try to upsell me on the fuel pump which is insane work. 1000$ for a fuel pump. 250$ parts, 500$ labors. You only need a couple of wrenches to DIY it from the Youtube for free. Anyway. Also he was kind enough to show me how to pump gas with the canister but was kind of reckless so it spilled some. He also forgot to screw the gas pump properly so I had to double check and tell him to screw it before I leave. And also after he pumped the gas with MY canister - he just left it on the floor and I almost forgot it at the shop. Luckily I came back for it where he left it. read more

I used to love this Pep Boys! Sadly not so much. I bought my tires here a few times. So when I had a leak in my tire I came back to get it checked out. Turns out there was a nail in it. Brian was outside and took a picture of it. (Attached to this review) The tech guy said that even though I bought my tires here, I didn't have the coverage on this round of tires.... But I did on the previous set of tires I bought. (That seems unlikely but I no longer had the paperwork). The tech guy said I would have to buy a new tire because the nail was too close to the side wall and wasn't repairable. (See photo attached - this is B.S.). I asked about tire rotation. That is no longer complimentary. When I purchased the tires it came with life long rotation. He said, yeah we don't do that anymore. Pep Boys only solution was to buy a new tire for $179. Or buy 3 get 1 free. So with tax around $600 They did check the tire pressure for me so I could drive to Angel's tires and get my tire repaired for $20. I'm sad to say it feels like Pep Boys (at least this location) has a slow leak and is going to flat line. You can feel it in the staff's demeanor. A highly unpleasant experience. Somewhere in the up line of management should address quality, honest service, morale and morality. read more

About a year ago, I had new brakes, rotors, and front control arms installed on my car at this Pep Boys location. Within the first day, my brakes began making a grinding noise. I brought the car back immediately, but the technician told me it was part of a "break-in period." The grinding never went away. After returning twice more, they finally acknowledged the issue and replaced the brakes and rotors with a higher-quality set--which made me suspect that the original parts were cheap and substandard. On top of that, the car was shifting side to side while driving. I repeatedly brought it back for them to check the control arms, but each time I was told the problem was my tires. I bought new tires from Costco, yet the sliding persisted. When I took it to another mechanic, he found that the bushings on the "new" control arms were broken. I brought this information back to Pep Boys, and only then did they admit the control arms were indeed defective. This led me to believe they never actually inspected my car during my earlier visits. Now, 11 months after they replaced those control arms, the same sliding problem has returned. Another mechanic confirmed that the replacement control arms' bushings are loose due to low-quality parts. Yet again, this Pep Boys location told me "nothing was wrong." I then went to the Pep Boys in Pasadena, where they confirmed the problem and agreed to replace the control arms with OEM parts--something that should have been done from the start. Bottom line: This location repeatedly uses poor-quality parts, fails to inspect their work thoroughly, and treats the customer as if they are the problem. Every time I've taken my car back to Christopher Q., the technician here, he's been wrong 100% of the time. I will never return to this shop, and I would strongly caution anyone else from trusting their vehicle to them. read more

I came here due to an emergency flat about six months ago today I had another emergency flat and went to another Pep Boys at another location, and they have informed me that the tires that they installed in my vehicle were for a passenger van and not a cargo van and not rated for the load of my vehicle please no matter if it's an emergency and you have to go somewhere and you are reading the reviews. do not stop here go anywhere else I feel like these people tried to kill me. I came in for a tire sensor and told them I had to leave by 1pm at 11:45 the guy at the desk checked and said the work was approved through fleet maintenance. Its now 3:45 and I am still here. At 2pm I went and ask what was going on again and was told 45m. I came an hour after that and stood over 10m waiting while Jorge would not even look at me or address me. He says hes the manger but when I ask for an explanation he would not give one and was visibly upset and very rude. I ask for the district managers number and was told to call 1800 pep boys and he would not tell me anything else or help. This is ridiculous I am in trouble now at work cause I was told to leave if it would go past my 8 hours. I missed my dr appointment as well over this. So now I get a write up and have to pay for missing my dr appointment. For 1 tired sensor. 1 the rest were good and were tested by a tech here. They will lie to your face and give a false sense of urgency about issues that never existed on a brand new car as well as fuck up your car more and attempt to give you a deal for well over a grand. They will fuck it up and ruin your life by fucking up your car more so you can't get to work or see family after budgeting for basic maintenance over attempting to make profit over fake issues they will quote you for well over a thousand on. Came in Sunday evening to get a flat fixed. I had to get a replacement tire- totally expected that. But when I returned home and parked, I realized the air valve was broken and they gave me a busted tire. I had to call a tow to put the donut on so I could take time off work and go back in the morning. The tow had a hard time taking the tire off because of how tight one of the bolts were. I spent two hours here again Monday because it turns out they also stripped one of my bolts and had to wait for a replacement to come in that did not match any of my other bolts at all. I asked if I could get a gift card or a future discount for having the inconvenience of needing to call the tow, take time off work and come back here and was told no since this replacement was complementary. Yeah.. why would I pay again for something one of your mechanics messed up? I just wish I was treated a bit better. read more

Worst experience and feeling ever! I thought i needed a battery so i called to see if it was in stock and priced it. Then i scheduled appointment for install because i was told they would not sell me the battery if they did not install. I arrived before my appointment time in hopes they would tend to my vehicle on time. That didnt happen and upon my arrival i requested battery be checked first before my purchase. Well over 30 minutes past my appointment still nobody near my car. Then he walks out finally and after struggling to open hood test the battery in under 2 min walks around the car and disappears inside. Mind you he was going to test the wrong battery and i had to tell him the battery was on the other side. Over 20 minutes after that i finally get a text. So i walk in they then approach me with paperwork to sign quoting me 445. I questioned the quote because that was more than double of what i was quoted over the phone before i even arrived. I requested a bettery test. They had install fee of course which i already had coupon ready for and $80 wipers which i didnt ask for nor did they have available because i had already checked upon my arrival and an air filter which in my observance was not even checked. When i rejected the service the guy walked away again no more that 2 minutes and then comes back and says if you want the battery we can intall it for 248 saying the manager approved it and that they would apply a coupon for the install. As i am waiting for my keys at the counter the manager then approaches to explain the paperwork and cost to me which of course by now im in aww on how quickly that price had dropped. I told him how everything happened and he tried to tell me we can order the wipers and have them delivered in 30 minutes. I stopped him and said another 30 minutes my appointment was an hour past at this point. I told him No thank you i just want my keys so i can leave. Saying i appologize does not fix the issue or experience. I have been a loyal customer to this facility for decades and now NEVER again. I understand why the glass window was tinted now. I went to interstate today as i should have yesterday and the battery was tested and they said its a little old but its still good. DO NOT STOP HERE!! I had a tire with a slow leak. Was driving to another spot and thought I would pop in to see if they could fix my flat. After waiting an hour. Milton comes out and tells me he has very bad news. Not only is tread worn on my tires. But there is significant dry rot on all of my tires. In the interest of safety I should get a new set. They just happened to have a buy three get the fourth for free sale. I know what low tread looks like. I also know what tire dry rot looks like. My tires had neither of those two things. What the one tire did have was 1/4" metal rod (see photo) penetrating and causing the leak. He did not mention that. I believe there was a serious effort into scaring me into upselling a set of tires I do not need at this point in time. In reading other comments, it seems I am not the only one. If you have any tire issues. Go to American Tire Warehouse in La Crescenta. If they can fix your flat. They do it free of charge. read more

I had the most terrible experience I've ever had in automotive care. I came here initially to replace two tires, tech found I needed oil as well as a new air filter. I proceeded to add those on. The next day, my engine light came on. I came in for a diagnostic ($99.99) and was provided with suggestions totaling $2,083 which is absolutely insane. I declined and went to Affordable Care of Hollywood instead and they fixed the issue for $175 total including a $45 diagnostic. PepBoys mechanic suggested I needed new spark plugs, valves, fuel injectors, and battery (!). Turns out all of the above were completely fine, all I needed was valve adjustment. Unbelievable SCAM/FRAUD happening at this PepBoys location trying to rip me off for $2,000 which I see has happened to other clients in these reviews. Also, the employee named Ashley here gave me the most condescending attitude, tone, and seemed upset with me when I asked for a breakdown of the quote as well as breakdown for tire replacement cost quote. Truly the worst customer service I've ever experienced and have told everyone I know to avoid PepBoys at all costs. I'm a small business owner and over my dead body would I treat a customer the way this employee Ashley spoke to me. Pepboys sabotaged me... My husband went to take our car to get serviced before a large trip. Nothing was wrong with the car at all, we just wanted to make sure we wont die on our trip. My husband dropped it off then got a call an hour later telling him the car wouldn't start. When he went to investigate they told him it was going to be $500 to replace the battery. Then he asked them to check the AC (which was working fine, he just wanted to be thorough), since we'll be in the hottest part of the country. They apparently needed to drain something to check it, told him the Freon was low and it would be $300 to fill it. He turned down their offer and now it doesn't work! Everything worked before it was dropped off, and now Im at a local mom and pop shop trying to get everything that they messed up fixed. I should've listened to the other reviews. Misled me on the pricing for a deal. Here goes: Last week I came in to get a tire replaced. I asked the guy about the buy 3 get a 4th tire free deal. He said it applied to this tire line and showed me a discounted price. I told him I had to leave in an hour so I only had time to get one tire changed. He charged me the full price for the tire. He told me to come back the next week, added notes into the system, and scheduled me for my follow up. He said I could claim the deal and that I would pay only for 2 tires this week. I come in today, the guy working (not sure of his name, bigger, rotund dude with a sour attitude) denies me the deal. I've already paid for one of the tires last week and was coming in to get the deal on the remaining tires. He says there are no notes in the system even though there's a history that I purchased the tire last week. He said I could get the deal today if I bought 3 more tires. We went back and forth that i don't want to buy 3 more tires for a free fourth tire. MY CAR ONLY NEEDS FOUR WHEELS. What? The? Felt like I was going back and forth with a robot that repeated a talk track. Was I being pranked? Is there no standard for running a tire business? Pep boys had me waiting on my vehicle appointment for 4 hours because the techs they had working constantly had random strangers (appearing to be friends with the employees) come and do oil checks which I could see wasn't going through the service offered by pep boys as they never paid , never got off the vehicle, and no one answered my question when I asked what was going on. Jonathan was my service provider and he was friendly however DJ was my helper when I returned after 4hrs to ask why it took so long when I had an appointment and also was very patient, they simply lack communication and DJ was very rude.
