This Pep Boys location is operated by rude, incompetent thieves and con artists. Take your business ANYWHERE BUT HERE. Dealing with the representatives at this location is not worth your time or aggravation. I brought to their shop the 4 tires I received from Tire Rack, plus 4 wheels on which to mount the tires. I gave the Pep Boys customer service representative the wheels and tires plus the Tire Rack agreement that lists the price for each service. I requested mounting and balancing. The price in the printed agreement is $12 per wheel for these combined services. The agreement states "Mounting and Balancing, per wheel $12." After mounting my tires on my wheels, the customer service representative, Tonya M. Dorsey, AND the manager, Brinda, claimed that putting the tire on the wheel (or rim if you wish) is called "installation". Since the Tire Rack agreement shows a price for "mounting and balancing", and not "installation", I would have to pay $10 additional per tire to have the tires "installed" on the wheels. Seriously. They persisted with this nonsense and demanded I pay their "installation" fee. So I called my husband and asked him to contact Tire Rack customer service while I waited in the store. The Tire Rack customer service agent stated that "mounting" means putting the tire on the wheel and that the agreement this Pep Boys location has with Tire Rack is very simple and clear: put the tire on the wheel and balance it for $12. My husband asked the Tire Rack customer service agent to call the Pep Boys location to enforce their agreement. I told that a Tire Rack customer service agent was calling to discuss the matter so that we could stop this ridiculous charade. The Tire Rack agent called Pep Boys, and the Pep Boys representative put the Tire Rack agent on hold, then hung up. Ten minutes later the Pep Boys manager told me that nobody from Tire Rack had tried to call and the shop's phone never rang for the duration of this nonsense. After more than 90 minutes and call from Tire Rack, the manager agreed to honor the Tire Rack agreement and made up some utter nonsense excuse about not knowing they had a relationship with Tire Rack. Right. She had no knowledge of the relationship despite the printed installation agreement that was the subject of the argument from the beginning. Then Brinda sent me to the checkout register but didn't submit my invoice into the Pep Boys system so the checkout clerk couldn't bring up my invoice. Brinda intentionally delayed me another 10 minutes while she sat at her computer, with no other customers waiting on her, before she finally submitted my invoice so I could pay and leave. Incredibly, I never raised my voice, lost my temper, or mistreated anyone in the store, nor did I make any rude comments to anyone. I simply held my ground and demanded that Pep Boys honor their agreement. In the event this all sounds like a simple mistake by the management at this store, there were half a dozen other customers in the store during this 90-minute debacle who were complaining about being ripped off for some other reason, including being charged for services not rendered, overcharged for services that were quoted at a fixed price, etc. So mistreating, lying to, and cheating customers appears to be the standard operating procedure at this location. I've taken an hour to write this ridiculously long description of my experience with these criminals. If it saves you or your friends from a similar experience, it was worth it. read more

I needed tires and saw the tire sale on the internet and this location was only about five minutes from my house. I had never been to Pep Boys before and I was pleasantly surprised. I was there about 8:15, they open at 9:00. Mike arrived about 8:30. I asked him if I was at the correct door for tire service and he stated yes. He cam over to my car to look at the tires checked the size and stated he would be right out. He came out with the top three prices so that I could pick so he could have everthing ready for me when they opened. I selected the most expensive tires, I got two tires installed for about $350.00, I was floored number one by how nice Mike was and then by the prices. He notified me that my back brakes and pad were bad so I had them to replace those as well also for a great price. My Mercedes is riding very nicely now. Mike (Michael) was very courteous and made my first experience at Pep Boys a remarkable one. I will be back. read more

NEVER GET CAR WORK DONE HERE!!! I knew this as a general rule for all car places in PG County having been raised here and then moving back here the last 3 yrs. But an emergency pot hole situation up the street left me no option. I came in on the rainy weekday morning not sure if they could repair the tire but with just enough air to make it to another repair shop. I quickly explained to a mechanic resting on a stool that I needed someone to take a look at my tire right away so I could make a decision. He tried to pawn me off to someone else without any help. 3 ppl later and with less air in my tire I finally got someone to come look at my tire reluctantly while complaining that she had to come out in the rain to do so and that it was my fault. She explained that the rim might not be able to be fixed but if not then they could put on a spare. I settled with that and waited for 2 hrs. (was quoted 45 mins) and noticed there were a lot of breaks and general sitting around in the garage for it to be so early in the day (around 9:30am). After a couple hours I was asked very rudely by the teenager working on my car if I had the tool needed to turn the nut to release the spare. I said I didnt think so and was asked to look through my van for it. After looking I couldn't find it and was told that they couldn't change my tire. I was officially stranded there now. My tire was flat and I could have made it to another place had I known that with all of the tools in their place they didnt have one that could turn a square nut! I complained about this and mentioned how I have turned the nut with far less sophisticated tools. Still they didnt even try and was content with leaving me stranded. Even started to hand me my keys. After insisting that they at least try to unhook my tire another employee started citing legal reasons for not wanting to damage their tools in the process of TURNING A SMALL NUT! It gets worse!!!! After talking to almost everyone in the store the only option I was given was that they would give me whatever tool I needed and I could get my tire off myself in the rainy parking lot and then they could change my spare. Livid but without any other options I agreed and asked for a pair of pliers. Now a new problem...in the entire store 5 ppl couldn't find a pair of pliers for another 15 mins. So if your problem is that you need a pair of pliers this is also not the place for you. The teenager was very convinced that I couldn't do it since he told his manager that it was "impossible" without even trying. Long story short. I finally got the pliers took 5 mins to get my spare off and then they changed my tire. No apologies were given just handed me my keys and I had to ask where my van was. Most of the ppl had disappeared by the time I had walked out. Despite how long this review is r sake of space I left out a lot of detail but hopefully enough detail to make you avoid this place at all costs! read more

I really like this franchise, trying to improve its service and competitiveness against places like Midas. I really want to give a better review, but I think fellow yelpers deserve better, so do I. In the past two months I had to go Pep Boys Marlow Hghts THREE times for one issue, getting new tires installed and aligned. So back in Jan, I purchased a new set of tires at Pep Boys and had them installed, balanced and aligned. Although I had an appointment and was ensured that the job would be done within three hours at the check-in, it took about five hours. Thank god I had my phone and a charger. Other than an ancient looking like TV, there was not much to do in that waiting room. I wasn't exactly happy, but I was just glad to get out of there with my new set of tires before snowy winter. On my way home though, I noticed that my TPMS sensor came on and the car kept steering to right. What the heck! I just dropped close to $600 on new tires and alignment and wasted five hours for what. I went to the store a few weeks later. Instead of waiting for who knows how long this time, I dropped my car off and came back later in the afternoon to find out that the technician forgot to put TPMS sensors in the first place. Don't technicians normally look at work orders before they do anything? And why wasn't this communicated over the phone so that we could've done something about it while the car was just sitting there? At least they said, it was re-aligned. So just past weekend, I went back once again for the third time, hoping for the best. And just like every fairy tale had a happy ending, I guess this one turned out ok. At the end, I met a decent technician, who finished work within an hour and test-drove it to make sure that sensors were working properly and car was well aligned. My three weekends were wasted with these guys. And not once, anybody cared to say sorry for inconvenience or crappy service. At least if customer care was decent, I wouldn't be so disappointed. read more

My experience happened in 1990 (so I know this is a tad late, but we didn't have the internet back then). My water pump went out early on a Sunday morning. My car limped to the Pep Boys in Marlow Heights. I waited at the door until they opened. I was the first customer in the door. The car sat in the bay all day long; and I sat on an uncomfortable wooden bench waiting...and waiting... and waiting..... At 4:30 pm they tried putting a new pump on. They were literally banging it with hammers. At 4:45 pm they told me they'd ordered the wrong pump but it would be there the next day. They closed at 5 pm. So there I was stranded in lovely Marlow Heights. I had to walk 2 miles down a highway to get a motel. They didn't even offer me the courtesy of a ride. And the hotel was absolutely filthy and nasty (different story for a different day). The car was finally ready the next afternoon. All told I spent 36 hours waiting for Pep Boys to get my car ready. If anyone feels that my review, coming 25 years after the fact, is too late to be relevant, then just take what I am saying with a big grain of salt. But from reading the other reviews on here, it doesn't appear that much has changed. AND I've been waiting 25 years to speak my peace about this place. read more

I will not be bringing my vehicle back here, after being hung up on by a technician, was told they didn't have oil in stock for my oil change, then was told the next day by someone else, I'm sorry we had the oil in stock the entire time, now experiencing oil pressure issues 2 weeks later, mechanic at different auto body confirmed by oil was DIRTY and filter had never been changed, this location is ghetto, avoid at all cost, and yes corporate has been contacted. read more

Dropped my car off at exactly 8:16 am because my brake lights were not working. Was told the electrician would not be in until noon. Informed the gentlemen that we had already replaced the fuses, the bulbs and the brake light switch. So by 3:30 that afternoon, I hadnt heard anything from the shop. Decided to check the status of my vehicle online, but naturally my tracking ID number wasnt "valid." Called the shop and was put on hold for more than 5 minutes. Hung up and was called back. The gentlemen stated that the electrician had started a diagnosis but was called away for a "family emergency" and would be back the next day (Sunday) at 9am. But something didnt sit well with me and I decided to drop by the shop. MY CAR WAS IN THE EXACT SAME SPOT I LEFT IT IN! TIRES NEVER MOVED! I find it unreasonable that the electricican would do a diagnosis in the parking lot as opposed to the mechanical bay. Waited inside for 30+ minutes to speak with the gentlemen behind the service desk. He informs me that the electrician NEVER SHOWED UP! It is now 5:30 pm, this shop has had by car for almost 10 hours and done ABSOLUTELY NOTHING! So now its been confirmed that they have lied to me. The gentlemen apologized and even offered to give me a discount on my services for the inconvenience and he would put my car in a mechanical bay overnight. I drove by at 10:30 that night and indeed my car was in the mechanical bay. Fast forward to 12:45pm on Fathers Day. I attempt to check my cars status online again, still invalid. Call the shop and the gentlemen from 5:30 the previous evening answers and tells me that the electrician has stated "its the brake light switch." Sir, thats impossible, the brake light switch was just replaced 2 days before, along with the fuses and bulbs! he claims he will call me back in 15 minutes. It is now approaching 1:30pm, 45 minutes later.......THIS SHOP HAS HAD MY CAR FOR ALMOST 30 HOURS AND HAVENT DONE A DAMN THING! I WOULD NEVER RECOMMEND THIS SHOP FOR MECHANICAL/ELECTRICAL SERVICES. I will be taking my pride and joy (my car) to the Chevy dealership and bite the bullet of this ungodly price I know they charge to fix it. If in the area, try the mechanical shop at Shell at the corner of Marlboro Pike and Silver Hill Rd. Ask for Francisco. He does great mechanical work. I have no recommendations for electrical yet! BUT DEFINITELY DONT GO TO PEP BOYS ON ST BARNABAS RD FOR ANY REASON!!!!!!!!!!! read more

Allow me to use this analogy to paint the picture of my experience: Imagine that you go to the ER w/ symptoms of a heart problem; get treated & released; however, bc you said nothing about it, the big gaping open bleeding wound on your face is absolutely ignored. Why? Well you never said anything about the wound- you only came in here complaining abt heart problems. Yeah! That's how these guys roll!! I had been in the shop in June to replace 2 front tires, then came back in July for an oil change, an AC recharge, and a complaint about the "check engine" light. I didn't mention that I'd seen light smoke coming from under the hood when driving long distances. Was informed I'd have to pay a diagnostic fee which would apply to work done to fix the car. Came in 9am; left at 6:30pm; checking periodically with the desk & told: You are 3 cars away; Your car is next, etc. At the end of the day I'm told: oil change done; AC recharged; and parts need to be ordered to fix the codes that came up during the diagnostic. SO I'VE SPENT A WHOLE DAY HERE FOR JUST AN OIL CHANGE & AC RECHARGE!!! I get checked out by the manager who says, "The guy who checked you in has left for the day. I'm the manager but he will have to be here to give you back the fee because I don't know anything about that." Understandable but highlights the unprofessional and disjointed management style here. The offer should've been in the paperwork! 2 days after I left the shop my car wouldnt start. I get it towed to a REAL mechanic, who replaces a $10 part on the battery and the car is running again. While I'm picking up the car he checks the oil and it is low. I inform him I got an oil change literally JUST 2 DAYS AGO!!! He shows me the extensive oil leak around the engine, DRENCHED AND VERY OILY TO THE VISIBLE EYE!!! Like ANY mechanic would've seen and addressed WITHOUT BEING TOLD OR ASKED!!! I go "Oh, that's why I've seen (light) smoke coming from under the hood when I'm driving!" He then shows me where the washer fluids and coolant containers are empty and bone dry, and says if you got an oil change they should have topped those off. I decided there and then to have HIM run a check to determine and fix the "check engine" problems. I'M NEVER GOING TO ANY PEPBOYS EVER AGAIN!!! I return the next day to complain. The manager is absent and the in-take guy says well you didn't say anything about an oil leak or smoke. What!!! After spending an entire work day, I left with check engine light still on (unavoidable- no parts), get charged for work that will NOT get done, an oil change w/ no fluids topped off, which is slowly leaking and ignored by a mechanic, a smoking AND potentially dangerous car. Thank you very much! If you are going to use this shop, make sure you know how to diagnose your own problems. If you a car novice like me, go somewhere else. The ppl who are supposed to be trained professionals who take the initiative to solve a problem, WHETHER OR NOT THE CUSTOMER SEES IT OR ASKS ABOUT IT, do not work here! read more

i went in for a il change, and i was in and out in less than 45min. the customer service that i receive now is outstanding. ive been a customer at this peepboys for the past 4yrs. in the past i was not happy about the customer service/the work done or suppose to b done to my car/ nor was i happy about the time spent in the store. but now i am happy with the service thats provided. the management is a whole lot better, the service nd the time spent in the store has improved tremendously. at first i wuldnt recommend nobody, but now, im recommending people to come to that particular location.. the service manager kelly is very helpful, nd the employees r on their job.. nd im thankful for that.. :) happy customer here read more

I got a new battery installed in my car then two weeks later, I returned to get a tire and a couple of members of the staff remembered me from two prior. Both times I was there, the staff made me feel very comfortable and was very friendly. I will always come to Pep Boys to get all my work done. Great job to the Pep Boys family. read more

I will never come to pepboys, I brought my new car here for new rims put on, the next morning one of the tires was flat, come to find out the tire was not sealed properly. I got it fix that night my son was driving the car and another tire went flat while he was driving. I was scared think God he didn't have and accident I had AAA to come out and change the tire they informed me that Pepboys again did not seal the tire. The next morning I took the car back to pepboys they ensured me they will check every tire and seal them that everything was safe and good. I leave with the car to go to da store well how about this while I was driving the third tire blow out on me again I had to call AAA to help me. So now I'm back at pepboys getting my money back and having them to put my tires back on my car and I'm done with pepboys for good. 0 Stars I went in today to get my car looked at because it was making a weird sound and the air conditioner is broken . I dropped my car off around 11:30am and was told that my car would be ready in an hour and half because there was 3 to 4 cars in front of me . That was fine with me i just hopped in a Uber and proceeded to go home and wait for my car. I call the store at 6pm way more than and hour and half later The guy that answered the phone joked and told me my car would not be ready until tomorrow ohhh little did I know my car would never be ready at all . The guy on the phone tells me they are just now looking at my car at 6pm I still remain patient and say ok . No one calls me back or gives me an update on my car by 7pm . I go pick my car up at 7:50 and still my car has not been serviced! I just ask for my car and leave. This is ridiculous you guys wasted my whole day waiting around for nothing . I now have to spend my only other day off trying to get my car fixed thanks a lot I will never be back here! read more
