This place sucks. Brought my car in for breaks 6 hours later my car was finished with a 370$ bill ....for a break job

Called pep boys to get a quote for replacing a belt on 97 chevy, asked for labor quote only since I had the belt, already asked about 4 other shops and they gave me prices from $27 to $60, pep boys told me $185.00!!! So now I know pep boys is at least 3 times more expensive than other shops. read more

My wife stopped in for an oil change and the woman behind the desk told her it would be $80 dollars as the vehicle REQUIRED full synthetic oil. This is a flat out lie. When she turned around to leave, the woman behind the counter said she "made a mistake" and it would be only $60. I'll take my business to a mom and pop shop. read more

Since I sometimes travel for work I was due for an oil change and needed to have my tires rotated. I usually go to valvoline for oil changes but they don't offer a FREE tire rotation when you get the oil changed. Pep Boys does so I got my oil changed here for that reason. The customer service was great and was ready to give a great review and decided to wait until I got my next oil change before doing so. ......however, fast forward 2 months. I got called to go to Fresno to do an assessment. So I called pep boys and asked if I needed an appointment to get my oil topped off and was told I can walk in but that they would have to charge, I'm like wth!! Screw that so I figured I'd go back to VALVOLINE when it was time. So, I was going south on the 99 and well below 800 miles since my oil change at Pep Boys. Around the Ceres area my oil light began blinking. I seriously thought I was having issues with a short or a having a glitch of some sort. There's no way I would need oil! When I got to Turlock the oil light just stayed on. I didn't want to be late for my appointment but I needed peace of mind. So I pulled over to check the oil. I was shocked when I saw a dry stick! I didn't need the paper towel because there was nothing to wipe! I was so nervous to drive it but I did it anyway to the nearest place I can buy oil. I'm certain pep boys did not do their job properly, which was obvious! I asked a professional mechanic to take a look and tell me if I have an oil leak. (Giving pep boys the benefit of the doubt) and I was told that it doesn't. I'll never go back to pep boys, not even for the "free rotation!" I'd rather pay VALVOLINE for that. And continue to receive my FREE top off between oil changes. If you go to pep boys for an oil change you better check that you actually have what you pay fore before you leave! Pep Boys is okay for basic automotive repairs like tires and battery replacements but I have had several awful experiences with this company. This last go-around included 6 visits over a week's time as they continued to guess at the root of my vehicle's problem. They charged me for parts that were not necessary as they continued to guess at the problem. I stuck with it hoping they would eventually get it right. And to their credit I was refunded for the battery that it turned out was not needed. During that time my family was stretched as we tried to manage without the car. Finally, when they said they wanted to try another part for $300, I took my vehicle to my favorite mechanic shop. Which is what I should have done in the first place. It was fixed diagnosed correctly and repaired with no trouble since. So if you need simple stuff like headlights changed, tires replaced, etc. Pep Boys is okay but be prepared for a long wait in the waiting room. Anything more difficult- go some where else. read more

Put the wrong oil grade in my car and told me it was just the paperwork when I called them out on it .. tried acting like they gave me a free service by balancing my tires but I have the free balancing for the life of my tires.. tossed my paper work and keys at me while having a constant attitude.. walked out to my car only to find oily hand prints on the hood of my car, the fender and even a door ! Oily slickness to the steering wheel/ inside of my car.. plus someone took my car for a joyride and didn't think I would notice but they blew my actuator out of my intake while doing so (it needs to be replaced and pops out when the gas is floored to the ground), had no resolution of issues when I brought to their attention, mainly the handprints all over my car that they told me they couldn't do anything but reimburse me if I wanted to go get it cleaned... now I appreciate that but I worked in a shop for a few years and I would've never let a customer walk away like that.... they didn't even offer to wipe down with a clean rag.. just had constant attitude and rudeness to them and basically just tried kicking me out of there as soon as possible .. OH and best part is one of the techs (Wilson) told me to shut the fuck up after he just stated he didn't like my vulgarity when I was expressing why I was upset and how my car wasn't treated properly in their care LOL now I get it,... I was cussing and I was upset but that's your WORKPLACE and you just told a customer to shut the fuck up.... this place is a joke. I'll drive the 2-3 hours to get it serviced with Alfonso at San Leandro location. Never bringing my car here again. read more

They still royally suck but they have one saving grace - they will take your used oil, container and all. Meaning that they get rid of everything for you. They also used to take as much as you had but started following the 5 gallon rule recently. So it's a good place to dump oil, at least. read more

I wish that I had read the comments on here before I let them touch my truck. I took my truck in on Friday because the battery couldn't provide enough power to start the vehicle (new battery). They stated that the problem was an alternator. It made sense to me, so I let them replace it. They told me it would be able to be done by 6pm, however I was leaving town. I left to head to the coast. Sunday, I returned home to pick up my truck. According to the original report, it should have been done for two days. It wasn't. They stated that the alternator did not fix the problem, but they could not provide the alternator for my normal mechanic to test to see if they even needed to replace it. The service person working said he wasn't "my" rep and wasn't sure of the status. He stated he would have them call me with an update the following morning. Remember, this would be the first update that they had offered me. This includes ordering another part for the truck and not asking me if I wanted them to. I never authorized them to further troubleshoot the problem or force me to pay for further work. I probably would of had they called me Friday when the part didn't work, or even Saturday when they had more time. They even could of called me Sunday so I could know what was going on before I got home. Monday, I went into check on my truck, because once again, they had not called me. The only service rep working was the one from Sunday. There was no need for turnover because he knew someone was supposed to call me. However, he looks me in the face and said like I said yesterday in a snarky way, we will call you when there is an update. I wanted to say like you did when the first part didn't fix it, the second time when you ordered another part because the part you were so sure would fix it didn't, or the time you told me someone would call me with an update in the morning. I am sorry if I have lost all faith in your ability to fix my truck and your ability to deliver basic customer service. I walked out, because the pure lack of customer service blew me away. I still don't know if or when they think my truck might be given back to me. I still have not authorized more work to be done on my vehicle. Oh and my truck is still sitting in the parking spot not be worked on. They have now had it a solid 4 days. I guess it is my fault for thinking that they would communicate with the vehicle owner like they said the would. I will never be back and if they don't get it fixed today, I am towing it to my mechanic. I wish there was a zero star option. It's been a great way to spend my Veteran's Day weekend. read more

This has got to be the worst company to work with! Zero customer service, zero professionalism, and zero respect for their customers. Went in for an OIL CHANGE with an appointment I made the day before and they told me 1-1.5 hours. It took them 2 and they never bothered to call me and let me know that an OIL CHANGE with an appointment was going to be 2hrs! When I stated my complaint Felipe said do you want to talk to a manager? I just took my car here 6/25/13..it seems a lot has changed. First off they have a price beat guarantee. .they beat all the prices I found fot a new set of tires. After getting there they guys were super nice! I was only there just under 2 hours. They even cleaned my rims lol Thier waiting area was clean and nice. They changed my tires, did an alignment, even put my spare back the way it was supposed to be and cleaned my rims. Never once did they try and upsale me on other work. Super nice guys. I promise if I could give a ZERO I would. DO NOT USE!!!! I went in on a Monday morning and spoke with Felipe from store #634 Service Ticket #2220535. I explained I had a flat tire and my husband said it can be repaired to just take it in. Felipe said he would check it and let me know. He checked it and told me it couldn't be repaired. He went into detail about the fact that I had a all wheel drive vehicle and how I would need to replace all (4) tires(DUHHHH I know this but because I am a woman I guess he thought I didn't). I knew he just was trying to sell me at that point - since he never even put my car on a rack to check the other tires I was worried about as well. I asked him for a quote and played along. I am EXTREMELY upset. My kids and myself wasted time all day long looking for tires and getting quotes. I finally spoke to my husband at lunch time and he said to call McCoy - I went there and WOW they repaired my tire at NO CHARGE and said my tires still have 20k miles! That saved me $1341.60 - to be exact! PLEASE make sure you research if you are a female and my advise is to NEVER use them again. I still have the quote for some reason I can't post the photo on here - I just think he is completely trying to make his sales or something. They aren't honest - BUYER BEWARE. read more

Went there twice. First visit was for an oil change. It took all morning and they charged me more for a special filter (can buy an oem filter for $4). They have a low intake price but ended up paying $15 more. 2nd visit was for an $80 alignment, took all day, did it wrong, claimed they are right. I had my car towed here when it started making a horrible noise. The auto tech, Ravi located the source of the noise, showed me that it was nothing major. Then have me an estimate of how much to fix it, or how we could bypass the problem completely. I appreciate his conscious service. Also Diego at the desk is a pleasure to work with. I am highly dissatisfied with my experience here. I advise you to not waste your time in taking your vehicle here for an oil change. First of all, the customer service is awful. I am by no means a difficult customer, and I am very polite and patient. I made an appointment for an oil change online and noted that I would be waiting for my vehicle. I was told when I got there with my vehicle that it would be a minimum of a 3 hour wait (just for an oil change). I called to ask if my vehicle was ready after 5 hours, and the person on the phone said "yes" and immediately hung up on me. I called right back to ask what time they closed and ask why they hung up on me, and the person on the phone said 5pm, and hung up immediately again. Very unprofessional. When I showed up to pick up my car, I had a question about my oil change and the attendant was unwillingly to answer me, and rushed me through checkout. The second reason, I would advise you not to come here is the price. I have a small commuter car, and the oil change was $39.99. This did not include anything except the oil and the oil filter. I asked if they checked my other fluids and topped anything off, and they said no that they do not check anything besides oil. I came home and filled up my own windshield wiper fluid and checked my other fluids and tires in my driveway. This place also did not put an oil change sticker in my window, so now I have to set a reminder for myself to get an oil change. Overall I am very dissatisfied with my experience and I will never be returning to a Pep Boys. read more

I have been using this location for my fleet of vehicles, since May 2011. I have a car rental company, and they service all of my basic vehicle needs just about every day. I bought two batteries online for my Dodge diesel after finding a 25% off coupon code. Saved over $65 vs. the other auto parts stores and it included installation. Check in was easy, was told it would take 30-40 minutes, no big deal since my girlfriend followed me there and we ran around town doing other things. I left my cell # and asked them to call when done. Two hours later no call so we just went back to the store. Truck was done, batteries were installed, just wish they would have called. Apparently both the guy at the counter and the service tech had went home and not told anyone to let me know it was done. Asked them to test the alternator but no indication on the paperwork that was done. For the price, it was fair, but if I hadn't found the coupon code, would have been very disappointed. read more

Happy to say the manager, Daniel, actually reads the reviews, called me up and let me know he looked at video and talked to his employees, some of whom were new and being trained. Daniel took responsibility as the manager of the store and professional conduct of his employees. So I've had some really mixed experiences with this place. I've had everything from an oil change to a brake job done here. But after the last time I went here I decided not to go back. Long story short and went in to get my brakes checked and left with a hole in my brake line. Honestly I was pissed, I spoke with the GM of the store and he offered to refund me the service, I declined and told him I just wanted my darn brakes fixed. He was courteous, fixed my brakes and that was that. My problem got fixed but I just can't trust these guys with my truck anymore. It's the only car I've got and I just never get the feeling it's being treated right here. The people are nice enough but I can never ditch the feeling there is something off here. read more

Needed a tire fixed because of a nail issue. I pulled in without an appointment, and told them my problem. All the vehcicle garage stalls were filled, so I thought It could be a long wait. Two men immediately walked me to my truck and examined the tire. One gentleman said it may be an hour. However, the other man said,"I will take care of it now." Fifteen minutes later I was on the road. Cost:19.99. Excellent service, friendly and professional. I have also stopped by for air in my bike tire--always accomadating. I won't go anywhere else. I would give this shop less than one star if I could. My girlfriend brought her car here for an oil change and they failed to even look at the coolant level (like any other respectable establishment would) and the next day her car overheats, leaving her on the side of the highway for two hours. I don't expect world class service with a simple oil change but at the very least they could have looked at the coolant level during their "vehicle inspection". I had a great experience getting all four tires replaced and aligned. They even had a deal buy three tires get the fourth free. They were able to take me as a walk in on a Saturday afternoon and had my car ready for pick up in a couple hours. I definitely would come back again. They care about their customers. read more

I was taken advantage of by a former Pep boys mechanic, He took me aside and said; "in the future, don't come to Pep Boys, I'll do the work myself for less than half the price they charge". I wasn't interested in that. However, when I drove my car home, I noticed the heater wasn't getting hot and when I stopped at a light, the heater began blowing cold. My heater worked perfect before having my car serviced, it was blatently obvious the mechanic did something to earn some money. I dropped the car off the next day, they said they found engine sealant in the radiator and removed it. The heater never did work right but I was so pissed, I didn't go back, and the weather warmed up and I forgot about it. The next winter, I remembered but a year had passed, I figured, they wouldn't do anything. another winter came and I was more pissed off so I went in and explained to the manager Pete what had happened. At first, he did what any manager would do, deny what I was reporting. We even got into a heated argument and he finally said, bring in your car and we'll have a look.
