This is the third time and I am done. Made an appointment for oil change, took my vehicle down and my wife followed. When I was checking in they said they did not have time to do the oil change. about one month ago I dropped my vehicle off for a front end alignment. When my wife brought me back to pick up it was not done! They apologized but I went home with no alignment. I can truly see why Pep Boys is struggling financially, this is the worst run most disorganized company I ever have done business with, but no more too many good competitors out there to trust my vehicle to these yahoos. read more

Went in becasue my tire had a slow leak, they said it was unrepairable and had to replace the tire. Went across the street to discount tire and they fixed it for free. Seems super dishonest, I will never reccomend anyone to go there and will personally not go back. read more

I got my alignment done and had a appointment for 10:30AM and wasn't completed until 1:00PM. Not only did it take them so long but customer service was rude and I uploaded a picture of my Lower Control Arm bolt being taken off and not put back. From my understanding a bunch of disgruntled employees just quit at the location and they only have 1 tech at this location so it feels and looks like this is on a personal level as revenge or payback to the business at the cost of a customer. The alignment was way off when I got my car back and they didn't even straighten out my steering wheel before starting the alignment. After the alignment, vehicle pulled to the left really bad and when doing 30mph and coming to a stop, it pulled so hard to the left. I could clear 2 lanes and  at 15-20mph it would shake side to side rapidly. I went back to the location and spoke to Rick, told him what was going on and what happened on Oct 12 2021 and he told me he only has 1 tech now and won't be able to help me. Even though this is the location that caused the problem in the first place, and they won't help me. SCAM ALERT!!!!!! Went in because my break on my front left side was screeching and my experience was less than stellar. They told me that my break pads were worn to a critical level and that they needed to be replaced ASAP. Got the car back and went to work. Decided to check my dashcam because they had been driving my car long enough to have turned on the radio and they had turned off my dashcam. That's about the sketchiest thing that I've had done to me when getting car service done. Completely unprofessional! Since my trust was gone at that point I decided to have a look when I was home. Once the tire was off I removed both of the guide pin bolts and removed the caliper from the pads. Low and behold the pads were completely fine! They were exactly where they should have been as far as wear is concerned. The wear was also even. Reached down and the bottom left break caliper guide pin was really tight and the top one was very easy to move. I wound up cleaning off the guide pin and applying some more lubrication and went to put things together. Checked the bolts on that side and they were in pristine condition other than being a bit dirty. Once everything was back together I took the car for a test drive and my screeching issue was resolved. They straight up lied to me to try and get $200 worth of service out of me. I would not recommend this location to my worst enemy let alone someone I care about. If you're looking for good service go somewhere else. I wouldn't take my car back there if it was the last shop on earth. If you're looking for service go somewhere else! read more

I had an appointment for this location and expected I would have a a couple hour wait and was prepared for that however when I arrived they stated it would be a 3-4 hour wait. While I understand they were behind schedule it would have been nice if I had been notified ahead of time as I did not have someone available to pick me up and leave my car there and I did not want to have to pay for Uber when I already will have the expense of my care maintenance. I ended up going to jiffy lube where there was no wait to get my oil changed but now will have to make an appointment with my vehicle dealer to have the other maintenance needed done. I also called another location that showed they had open appointments today and they said they were booked out till Tuesday despite online showing different. It would be nice for them to either then block those appointments out or call people ahead of their scheduled appointment who have stated they will be waiting for their car that they are behind. read more

My husband took his car in to get a nail removed and patched up and Armando M was the service provider. Do NOT let him touch your car. He scratched up brand new rims installed 3 weeks ago. When I called to see how they could fix it Mark Smith the "manager" said there was nothing they could do and stated that Armando claims the rim came in scratched up. Total lie!!!! I wanted them to check everything on the car - it has 91K miles - they did a fantastic job and told me what I should have done that day and what I can come back and do in the future - its not so serious so maybe in 3-4 months. Review only for my customer experience, not any actual service or purchase of products. Horrible customer service. Made an appointment online and filled in the car issues I had. When I came to the service location, I checked in and the representative said immediately said "do you check your messages" I was like excuse me? He proceeded to said "I left you a message to know what service you needed yesterday". I said no, but, but I filled out what I needed on the online form. Now remember, I'm here for my actual appointment; he said "I needed you to let us know the service to make sure we have the right person"... ok understandable but you called once? No email no second call? I'm a loyalty member so they have more than one form of contact. Then he says "all I see in the computer is 'needs service'" . I'm thinking this whole day someone could have made the extra effort to reach out to me another way, but once for something crucial to the success of the completion of the service seems extremely lacking. He was unfriendly, unapologetic and had a whatever attitude. I have never had this experience in any other location. For these reasons I will not be giving my business to this location ever. I grew up with my dad trusting Pep Boys reputation of being reliable and trustworthy. That completely changed for me in the last four weeks. After bringing in my 1996 Dodge Ram van conversion (RV) for a front suspension upgrade (renewing ball joints and bushings) PepBoys seemed like the ideal place to expedite replacing the lower ball joints. I had the upper ball joints replaced at another shop earlier that week because they needed more attention, also because I was under pressure to get up to Santa Barbara ASAP to make good on a transfer that was to begin by the beginning of August (I was going to be living out of it at a SB campground). Much to my chagrin, PB mgr Mark S & staff proceeded to have me believe that the proper ball joints had been installed, accurate front end alignment was performed, and that it was safe to drive off the lot without having it test driven by any staff. It drove so badly but Mark S. told me to drive it for a few days "to let it settle". Long story short I had to have it towed back to PB a few days later where the guessing game continued and the rude attitudes and lame excuses turned the promises of having it done in a few days into a nightmare for the next two weeks. I finally had to have it towed to a reliable shop in Escondido (Army Mechanics) who was able to remedy the botched repairs completely and professionally. It was such a relief to have my "man cave on wheels" back to riding smoother then ever, after losing hope while in PepBoys care-- or Lack of!. I will be looking to recoup my costs & losses from PepBoys by way of the Small Claims Court process (including blown shocks). At least the nightmare has come to an end, and I can resume my plans for relocation to Santa Barbara, being the wiser for never having to return to Pep Boys again. So I'm reading the reviews and think to myself, "there's no way this place is that bad". So I go and make an appointment three days in advance. Should be ample amount of time to prep for an alignment job.... WRONG!!!! First off, I pull into the parking lot and boom! Cars all over the place. I'm thinking to myself, "poor saps, no appointment". I get there and turn my keys in at 1:50pm! I go and eat my sandwich outside in the front in the grass. After watching my truck for 30min, in the same spot, I'm thinking, "ok, any minute now". Then I hear a truck doing burn outs in the back of the building. Old school truck. Nice too! He goes into the alignment rack before my truck. I go back and get pictures, thinking to myself, "great, here we go". I go inside and ask, "how much longer". The gentlemen tells me, about 30 more minutes.... He didn't even go to the back and see if my truck was on the alignment rack. Hmm.... So I go get more pictures, and notice that the guy with the old school truck, worked there, because he obviously has a pepboys shirt on, full of grease all over his hands and face. Then I noticed, he and two other mechanics start to work on the old truck. You hear it, like they are doing something with the engine and all because it's LOUD! So I give it one more try and 30 more minutes.... At 2pm, I ask how much longer, because it's been 30 minutes. The gentleman tells me that the mechanic is just about to put it on the alignment rack. I asked if the mechanic was done with his truck yet? The gentlemen looks at me funny, and says, one second please. Goes in, five minutes later, comes back and says he was working on another car, not his truck. Yet I have the pictures of not only his truck on the rack, but also him moving it to another rack with his hood up to continue working on it. So I grab my key and split. Hey, I don't mind the occasional moonlighting, heck, my dad did it at his old work place... But after work hours. It's called moonlighting for a reason. Not mid-day'ing! If this were my shop, I'd look into this! Because not only is the mechanic taking money and customers away from the shop and messing up the customer satisfaction, but he's also taking away from the owner! Getting paid to work on his own truck? I need a job like that! Where do I apply! Sure, I could be over looking this, and be wrong! But I know what I saw, and I didn't like it. So I'm taking my business else where. As should you! Oh! When I went to go get my keys, the gentlemen was explaining to a customer that it's an additional charge for you to add a part that the shop didn't supply, and labor! While working on that part.... Sounds fishy to me? DO NOT COME HERE! And I'm sure I'll get a response from pepboys customer service, telling me they're sorry for my recent visit and hope they can fix the situation, blah, blah, blah! Same on all Yelp post,... Service here is good, but it is really slow. You can expect to be treated kindly, which is important. But if you're like me and have to wait welcome to a very uncomfortable wait. The chairs are not made for sitting and the bathroom is prettt worn down and feels kinna icky. This isnt a mom pop place, this is a place with a corporate office who should be checking on these things from time to time. I hate waiting here. I do wait because the repairs are good and the I can usually find a coupon for what I need. Which you will be greatful to find because the prices are just okay. I never left Pep Boys feeling like I got a good deal. The retail side is another story. There is a lot of stuff from real car parts or cheesy key chains. Its actually a good spot for that. Offended after several days of thinking about it on and off. I wouldn't go back there. I took my vehicle in for an official diagnosis of a particular concern. I was told my original concern... 'was no problem' and 'looked' fine to them. Instead, I was told I had a bigger problem and that THAT was affecting my entire car's performance. I'm a 50-something-female and am very aware of how vehicles work and operate and how particular problems affect other components. I asked one more time about the original concern and heard, "like I said.' Blah, blah, blah. When I arrived, I asked how long I would have to wait and they estimated 1 hour. :( I understand that there are other people with and without appointments, but my car wasn't taken into the garage until 40 mins. after I checked in. I have been coming here for years and it has always been this way. When there are a lot of cars you are just bound to wait. I gave 4 stars because the service people are quite nice. After having a horrible experience running over something in the freeway, I had no choice but to change my flat & hop on over to this pep boys to replace my tire. Jessie, a service advisor, ended up helping me. He asked if I had a Pep boys rewards card and told me how if I did- the repair would be free. I didn't- but $19.99 was nothing to me since I expected to have to replace my whole tire. I ended up leaving my car there and they called me as well as texted me when my car was ready which was about 2 hours later. I'm glad they didn't jip me into having to buy a whole new tire & I feel more safe now that it's fixed. I also like that my little computer warning light has gone off. So on for 10k more! read more

If i could give zero stars i would, the guys at the front literally will lie to you (Brian Daniels), i had an oil leak two years ago and they fixed it just for two weeks later my valve cover gasket to catch on fire while driving, so i took my car back in and they told me i needed a new valve cover gasket, so i paid almost $400 for the parts and labor just for the same problem to happen two years later and they tell me i have an oil leak (mechanic Christophe M) And that They need to remove n replace the same oil filter adapter gasket that they supposedly did two years ago. Brain Daniel tells me it's an oil leak and not sure where it's coming from. My experience here was terrible, maybe because I'm a female and they try to talk to you like your stupid because you don't know much about cars and most of there costumers are old people so it looks like they just out here taking advantage of them as well. After my girlfriend dropped off her keys, we left and went to the shopping center across the street to kill some time. And then came back after about an hour or so. Pros: They have a waiting room with a tv, the oil change is affordable (depending on what oil you're getting). They offer a $5 tire rotation with the oil change. You can schedule an appointment. The guys that work there are nice. Cons: My girlfriend's right headlight was not working as we drove out of the parking lot, I only know this because I drove separately and she was behind me as we drove out. Crooks, $100 for a diagnostic another mechanic provided for free in 5 minutes, diagnostic included unethical repairs. Quoted $1500 for what was itemized as $950 on the written copy, including break services which were not needed as breaks had been replaced by Pep Boys 2 months ago. Bad communication with women; misogynism definitely present in the communication and treatment. If you want to be treated reasonable and fairly this place is not recommended. Employees showed bad treatment too: one came in asked if "someone f-ing took his tools" not a family, fair or professional place, this Pep boys was acquired and the service is not reflective of past experience with this name brand. read more

I took my sturdy and trusty but elderly 2000 Camry in about a week ago to change out a headlight and a turn signal that were burnt out. Job well done. But a couple of days ago my electrical system seemed to go haywire, I got a check engine light, the reverse light came on the shifter indicator on the dash when I touched my brake pedal and my back-up light was out. I was pissed. There seemed to be a direct connection between the prior work and these new problems, as I'd never had electrical issues before. Fred calmly took my issues down, checked the car himself and gave me the check-engine codes. Had to bring it back for an appointment yesterday. I asked who the store manager was, as I was thinking of giving him a piece of my mind. No need. Assistant manager Rick also calmly told me they may have messed up, may not, needed to check. Fred came to me in the waiting room a couple of times with updates. The problem turns out to be a possible bad "neutral safety switch" but they didn't have an electrician at that store, will have to go to the Oceanside store which I'm cool with. I'm not cool with the price of the neutral safety switch, but their technician cleared the check engine light. Fred expressed the opinion that driving the car wouldn't harm it, excepting that "neutral safety switch" needs checking since it coded on the check-engine light analysis. All was handled very professionally. I would bring my old Camry back to this Pep Boys. read more

I ordered both front unloaded brake calipers for my car, but one had defective brake line bolt hole threads and needed to be returned. I called the store and another one was ordered with expected availability for pick up in 3 days. After 3 days I called back and spoke to Francisco, a different person from the first call. He looked around but could not find the order. I asked if he could order it again. He said no because he wanted me to get the part as soon as possible. So, he said he would swap my ProStop re-manufactured unloaded caliper for a more costly re-manufactured Nugeon loaded caliper with no additional charges. To smooth the process, he said to ask for him when I came into the store. Consequently, I was able to get the caliper on the date promised. have a rental care currently, made an appt and showed and said they were running behind I said no big deal sat there for an hour. my car still hadn't been touched by them so I decided to reschedule for 2 days later. they say come in early and we will get you out really quick about an hour he said to come back. mind you it's only a oil change and a 360 inspection on a RENTAL. so I came back an hour later and still not done. now here we are past hour 2 and it's still in the bay. i understand we are all human and we all have our own lives. doesn't mean you have to take your sweet time on everything you do. an oil change should take max of 30 minutes. read more

The knucklehead who was supposed to be doing my tires couldn't find tire weights? And even after he found them he stopped working in my car to help his buddy who was working on his car there. I went to this Pep Boys because of it's convenient location and all I needed was an oil change. First impression was not so great, if you drive up to the designated lanes and wait for assistance you could be waiting all day. I stood there for a little while and then saw an employee having a smoke break, I asked him if I needed to go inside to get assistance, his answer "someone is supposed to be out here but if you want service you should go inside you could be waiting a long time if you don't" When I went inside I was treated a bit like I was bothering them, but I understand it was a busy day. Once someone came outside I asked them for an oil change, if they could check if my oil pan was leaking, and my left front blinker. The answer was "absolutely". When I picked up my car the oil was changed but nothing else. I also bought some windshield wipers that the employee said would be installed during the service and they weren't. When I asked them about the leak, which next to the oil change is what I cared about, I was told they didn't see the note and now it would cost for them to check that. That was annoying but whatever, I just left. On my way home my check oil light came on and there was a burning smell. Now this was distressing, I checked to see what the problem could be and there was oil all over the front of my engine, someone broke the oil cap and tried to glue it together. How does a simple oil change turn into 4 hours and two visits. Anyway I went back they put in a new oil cap, changed the bulb on my left blinker, checked my oil levels, and wiped off a bit of the oil. It's nice they corrected their errors but I don't think I will be heading back over there. read more

I had a Pep Boys battery that failed near the end of the warranty period. I went to Pep Boys to have it checked on my way to the hospital to see a relative in ER. After waiting a few frustrating minutes for service, and tracking down the Service Manager - Efren Lonzano, I explained that I had been waiting and had no service. He apologized saying they were short handed that day, and to "make good" he warrantied the battery and got me on my way right away. I started out very upset, and ended up being impressed that they handled the situation very professionally, showed compassion, and took care of me quickly. Lorenzo did a good move. Was a customer of theirs for over 2 years. Was. Admittedly i was "that" customer when I came in today. I had just found out my OBD display was not responding which caused me to fail a smog check, so I was out some money and rightfully upset that the only mechanics I was going to a) never caught this and b) never told me about it. It had to have been manually disconnected given what the smog check station told me. I put the manager I talked to on the defensive early, which was my mistake, and regret doing. However, he found nothing on record of a check engine light being looked at. Which I knew was incorrect, as I had the light looked at when I came in for an oil change one time. With their records not showing that the obd was ever looked at, and with my attitude going up, the manager was not willing to put up with me. Rather than solving the problem, he was confident that I didn't know what I was talking about, which obviously made me feel worse, since this is the only place I go to. I don't blame him, but on the other hand, I was not accusing HIM of anything: I stated that I couldn't trust his mechanics if they did something to my car like this. As he kept shifting the argument to "I'm not guilty of making you fail smog" and "We didn't touch that", I got fed up and left. At this point, I can't trust any of this location's mechanics, which is all well and good as oil changes took over 3 hours and repairs always took longer. I had put up with it simply due to store loyalty (I don't like shopping around in case something goes wrong with my car, for this very reason), and now I know I don't feel comfortable leaving my car with this place again. I'll be going to a local, non-corporate, well-reviewed mechanic next time. Hopefully I'll have better luck than with my experience here. read more
