My wife had a flat front left tire and she drove on it for a short distance before she noticed it was flat. I took off the tire and took it to Pep Boys. The guy behind the counter looks at it, runs his finger around the side wall, and said that I need a new tire. The other guy behind the counter was telling me that I need two new tires to match the one that I need. I then took the tire to Discount tires and they told me that they cannot make the determination if I need a new tire by just looking at it. You have to take the tire off the rim. I called them yesterday because my rear view mirror had broke off and the guy on the phone quoted me a price of 40 dollars to fix it. I would have to come in today on my lunch break to get it fixed. Not super pleasant to drive around without a rear view mirror but you do what you gotta do. When I got there I was told they don't fix rear view mirrors and don't know how. My lunch break was wasted for nothing, and now I have to find somebody else to fix it. I'm truthfully quite frustrated at the moment. I've been coming here for years. It got so bad that I writing this review. Alway have my oil changed here. The last time they did not even change my oil. My oil sensor show 57% when I came in, check 1 month later and it's show 16%. I know my car very well and change the oil always on time. This is unexceptionable. IF I COULD GIVE THEM ZERO STARS I WOULD! I called Pep Boys before I went in, and was quoted $60-70 for synthetic oil on a jetta. When I drove up to the service area, the woman told me it would be around $60, and I watched her write down $56.99 I was quoted around an hour so I went to the waiting room and after about an hour I went up to the service desk and was told my car was ready. Why would no one come notify me, instead of letting me sit and wait longer!! Then, when I went to pay her, she told me my total was $83.00. When I asked why the price was different, she said Jettas cost more with oil changes. ummm.. you quoted me $60 when my car was right in front of you!!!! So at this point I just wanted to go home. I got into my car only to find my radio station had been changed to 90.3 fm (which I do not listen to) and black finger prints inside my car!!!! I called the manager and he cut me off before I could even finish telling him what happened. Anyway he said I could get a refund for the price difference and get the interior of my car cleaned. Dropped my car off on Tuesday, was told because of the holiday it would be ready by Friday "at the latest" today... Saturday they just started. They have not called me once, and every time I call I am told "I don't know" about price, about time, and about the issue. Finally Friday the issue was discovered, but no work started until just now. But no clue when it will be ready!!! And it's going to cost me almost $700. And the entire time no one called once to update me. People always say the deanships rip you off, but if saving a buck means no knowing when I get my vehicle back, I'd rather pay extra. At the dealership you get a loner car, and they get the work done when they tell you they will have it done. I will not ever use them again. I'm so incredibly upset by this!! read more

My 5 star rating is strictly for the service center. I've been here multiple times for oil changes and various other regular maintenance. It's usually pretty quick and not too terribly overpriced. What I like best about this particular service center is you can see what's being done to your vehicle. The waiting area has a gigantic window that looks right into the garage. It just gives me piece of mind that the mech's are doing what they're supposed to (or at least appear to haha). Then again, with simple regular maintenance, I kind of know what to look for. Either way, it's nice to be able to see the progress in action. I've never had an issue with these guys. read more

DO. NOT. GO. HERE. I recently had gone in because one of my tail lights was out. Easy, right? Shouldn't take longer than 15 minutes... I walked in and asked for some assistance in finding the right light size for my back tail light, the manager on duty said my back light has a couple of different light sizes and he would need to have one of his crew members take a look to find out what light bulb I actually needed. What I hoped would be a quick stop turned into a TWO hour stay at this location! At one point my car was surrounded by four employees staring at the trunk of my car trying to figure out how to CHANGE A LIGHT-BULB! Rather than leaving this location as a satisfied customer, With a fixed Tail light. I left Frustrated, Annoyed, And with a tail light STILL out! The worker there thought it would be a bright idea to try and take the light out with WIRE PLIERS and ended up snipping my wires!!! It is now going to cost me $120.00 to replace the part THEY broke!!! Never going here again!!!! read more

I have gone to the pep boys in Encinitas off of El camino for years and they are always kind, quick and do a great job and I come here ONE time and they take over 2 hours to do a simple oil change and fuck up my car to where I leave with my front two tires wonky and making a loud sound and take it back only for them to 1. Not take me seriously as a woman and act like I'm an idiot 2. want to CHARGE me to fix the fucking problem they caused and say it'll be a few hours to take a look at my car 3. treat me with the most disrespect and toss my keys at me when I decide to take my car somewhere else because I was absolutely appalled by their attitude and behavior. If you value your time and money take your car anywhere else but this pep boys! Worst place ever, I literally just came here to change my oils . First thing they asked me, "do you have an appointment?" I did not, so they told me to wait, it shouldn't be more than a couple of hours. Okay that sounds reasonable (since, I did not have an appointment). After about 2.5 hours, "I'm thinking I see all these workers just relaxing for a while. Okay, I should go talk to them." I asked the manager, how much longer will it take for you to change my oils? The manager told me "maybe in a couple of hours". This made me mad. The manager was refusing service by not giving me a definite answer, but instead kept saying " maybe in couple of hours". Are you kidding me ? I have been here for 2.5 hours already and going to have to wait another couple of hours, just for an oil change? An oil change shouldn't take more than 15-30 mins. I found this location through Yelp and called to see if they would be able to help us. I was told in the phone that there would be a wait as they were quite busy. I have been using this location for over 5 years. I have always received great service that goes beyond! A few months ago,. I had an issue with windshield wipers I had purchased but didn't have my receipt. They exchanged them without any problem. I went in to purchase an air filter yesterday and when I was done, I went over to the service area to make an appointment for the next day. Fred, took such good care of me that he told me I didn't need to come back, he'd fix my problem right now. I was out of there in 15 minutes with two working brake lights instead of just one and Fred offered to install the filter as well . Took 2 hours for my 29 minute oil change. I was told at first that my car would take an hour, I walked across the street to grab a bite at Sizzler just to come back to wait another 1 hour and to find my car still sitting where I parked it with no paperwork done for it. I would of been happy if they said something like "Hey we are really busy right now, it might take two hours..." but they told me the wrong times I rearanged my day just to get hosed in the end. Just not a good experience. If there's nobody there I'm sure you would have a better experience than me, but if it's busy at this PepBoys, you might want to drive away. read more

Came in for my first time to this PepBoys location yesterday. Had 4 new tires installed and an alignment done for my truck (around $700). The job/labor seems good so I really wanted to put 2 stars but I simply wouldn't want this to happen to anyone else property/vehicle so its a hard 1 star. After my new tires were installed an employee backed my truck out of the bay not aware that I was in my GF's car waiting in the same parking lot. Instead of moving to the alignment stall like he was obviously supposed to, he preceded to rev my truck up, (stick shift) peel out down the side of the back of the store and do a hard screeching 180 with my brand new tires just before hitting the dead end. Mind you my engine is already not in the best shape so this sort of "driving" is even worse on it. Top it all off they some reason also opened my hood but didn't close it all the way so when I got the okay to pick it up I had to close it, good thing I noticed. I would of said something at the store right then but they still had to do the actual alignment so I didn't want to risk that getting done poorly as revenge. If this is common policy for PepBoys I would never trust them with my vehicle or anyone elses for that matter ever again. Its a stock 4cyl truck, why would anyone drive like that? I certainly would never do that to my vehicle and can't believe I paid someone that much money to treat a customers vehicle like a clown, secretly abusing both trust and personal property when they think no one is looking. If a rep of some sort wants additional info like time, date etc. please contact me and ill be happy to share but I would also like an explanation as to why this is allowed at all and justify/reconsider why I paid that much $$$ just to have my truck & new tires I haven't even driven on abused like that. I set up an appointment online for their 120 point inspection service (online price $74.99) for today at 2:00. I arrived at 1:45 and was assisted by Tammy. She is a delightful representative for Pep Boys. As I was being checked in, the price showed as $129.99. She said she would check with the manager and we continued the process of checking in. Once we were done I went to the waiting area. At 2:40, I looked to see where my car was and saw that it had not moved from where I parked it. I went back to the service desk and saw two men behind the desk. I asked when my car would be looked at and was told "next". I asked how long that would be and was told "next". I asked for my key and said that next is not an answer for a length of time and walked out. These two gentlemen should not deal with the public. I can only hope they are managers as a surly attitude such as theirs should not be used by people at the front desk. I won't be going back to Pep Boys, now I remember why I stopped going before. read more

They have no problem ripping their customers off. My husband went in for brake service on his car. While they were working in his car, my husband received a call saying his water pump was leaking and needed to be replaced. We later found out through the dealership that his car is still under its original warranty and the extra work that was done should have actually been covered. Not only did Pep Boys not attempt to research the cars they are working in, but they will also recommend work that is not at all needed on your car to make a couple of extra hundred dollars. The customer service here is a joke. We kept getting the run around when it came to talking to a manager. Not only will I not recommend this particular location, but I refuse to refer anyone to Pep Boys PERIOD. read more

Don't go here unless you have all day to wait!!!!!! I brought my truck in on 03/10/2018 to have 4 tires installed and get an alignment. I had an appointment for 12:00pm. The service desk told me it would take about 4 hours. They said they would call me when it was ready. At 4:45pm I called to see if my truck was ready. They told me it was on the rack and they were the tires on, should be another hour. At 5:45pm, I still had not received a phone call, so I just proceeded to go the store. I arrived at 6:00pm and the truck was still not done. 6 Hours for tire installation and alignment? I asked to speak with the on-duty manager, but there was no manager there. They stated that they didn't even start my vehicle until 3:30pm, remember my appointment was at 12:00pm. No phone call or anything saying they were that far behind. I pulled into the parking lot to watch them complete my truck. The service people moved like molasses. They got the tires on at around 6:45pm, then put it on another rack for the alignment, Completed everything at 7:30pm. I don't think they even started till I called 4:45pm. 7.5 hours for 4 tires and an alignment is ridiculous!!!!!! I will never go here again and I will tell all my friends to not go here as well. read more

This has to be the absolute WORST auto repair shop known to man. First, and foremost, DO NOT take your car here if you own a luxury car such as a Mercedes or BMW. If your car requires the finesse of an auto body shop that specializes in German repairs - take it to such a place. Consider this fair warning! I took my Mercedes here for an issue that was related to steering and suspension. I was quoted $1500 for parts and labor. No problem. At the end of day I was told they would not have my car ready until 3pm the following day. No problem. At 3pm the following day, I was told that they had the wrong part for my car and it would not be done until close to store closing (9pm). No problem. At 7pm I was told that I could pick up my vehicle, but that they did not perform the alignment as promised because they did not know how. Further, they did not have the "special tool" to complete the task. What took the cake was that I was told I needed to take my car to a repair shop that specializes in German cars. WHAT! You knew you were over your heads when I dropped my car off. You knew you didn't have the "special tools" you needed to get the job done when you took my money to diagnose it. What made matters worse? When I picked my vehicle up the steering wheel was completely upside down. Yes, you read it correctly. They repaired my car and left it in such a state that the steering wheel was turned 180 degrees and completely to the right! Are you KIDDING me Pep Boys? You take just short of $1500 from a customer and let them drive off your lot with a steering wheel that wheel that was not locked in place? Are you in the business of getting over on people, specifically women? When I took it to two other auto body shops they confirmed in writing that Pep Boys "INCORRECTLY INSTALLED THE RACK AND PINION IN STEERING COLUMN". To add further insult to injury, because they improperly installed the rack and pinion, they also damaged my air bags and computer system, which now also have to be repaired. Thanks Pep Boys. You guys really know how to piss off a customer! I was told that I would hear from management. Dan in auto parts told me that you would likely be providing me with a "full and complete refund". Where is it? Now, I am responsible for a second auto repair to fix your mistakes? UNACCEPTABLE!!! You would think this is where the story ends. When my fiancee saw the state of my vehicle, he marched down to Pep Boys to speak with Efrin Lonzanzo, the Service Manager. They got into a huge altercation. Efrin did not acknowledge the mistake, was not willing to come outside to look at the damage they did to my vehicle, and he was not willing to apologize. When we explained that the steering wheel was upside down, the air bags had been damaged and that the computer system was now in need of reprogramming, his first response was "I am NOT going to give you a refund!" Had the audacity to say he wanted his part back. Who on planet earth would allow anyone at this repair shop to work on their car again when they hosed it up and left it in such an unsafe condition? I didn't want those mechanics touching my car again. Efrin was quite nasty, very rude and down right belligerent. Efrin gives a bad name to the Pep Boys image. You've been warned! I've never had a good experience with any repair work done at a Pep Boys. This place supposedly fixed my brakes, but I had to get them worked on again less than two years later. I nailed them with a very negative tip around a year ago. I've visited them a few times since then and I take it back. Perhaps I had a bad experience mixed with a bad day. They seem like they're on the ball and will help out when they can. Even if they have large jobs in the shop to get done, they'll make time for you with their "drive up service." I've had them replace headlights and taillights in seconds. They do oil changes very quickly. I'm not too sure on their actual automotive pricing, you know, for actually repairing your motor or transmission, etc. But their smaller services are worthy of your time and money. read more

Came here one evening for a quick oil change and a wheel alignment. Upon entering I was greeted by one of the workers and guided me to services to get my car maintenance done. He alerted the service reps and I waited till the came out. After a few minutes wait he realized I was still standing about and asked if they ever came out. Once again he had to go back into the garage to get the service reps to come back out. Finally they showed up and got me started with the paperwork. The wheel alignment got shot down, they were no longer doing it for the night which was a downer. Upon completion of my car, I realized they didn't update my oil change sticker. I definitely enjoyed the service from the initial worker, but everyone else was slacking on their part that night. Don't get complacent just because the night is coming to an end. read more

This would be an all day job from anybody. Nolan and Efrem assured me that they could and would take care of this job. This turned into a project for service techs Omar, Brian and Anthony. This location SAVED me money on a repair that I had for my girlfriends 99 Beetle. I brought my Beetle somewhere else after we had overheating issues and was quoted at $2275. The mechanics at this location agreed that the cost didn't sound correct and suggested I purchase the part (a fuse box which sits on top of the battery-notorious for failure) online and do it myself. I paid less than $50 and 1/2 hour to install myself. The mechanics at this location were right and the cars been running great since their suggestion. I have complete trust in this location and would recommend them to anyone looking for an honest repair read more
