The left side of the store has been leased to an AutoZone parts and supply store. I went to get my RI Emissions inspection and the process took only about 45 min. (11/20/24) Mark - thank you for the amazing service. I got a flat tire and struck out at 4 different tire shops who were unable to help with my specific tire, until I found my way to Pep Boys. From the beginning, Mark was incredibly patient, while also being super knowledgeable and putting in extra effort to order a replacement tire for the next day (vs up to a week at other shops). He and his team also went out of their way to help me get through the day (e.g. free spare tire installation). An issue happened with my car on a Sunday while I was driving on the highway. Something didn't sound right, so after a 30 minute ride, I got home and decided to try to find someone the next day who could take a look. I knew exactly what had happened. It would be around a $200 job at a chain mechanic shop or dealer ... or around $150 at a local shop. None of the local shops could fit me in on a Monday. Oddly, Pep Boys had no issue. I dropped the car off at around 10 a.m. and they said their mechanic arrived at noon. Weird. But okay. I got a call around 1 p.m. with the dreaded words you never want to hear from a mechanic ... "A couple things ..." It turned out to be the problem I expected, which Pep Boys charged $230 to fix. Much more than a local shop but with a twist ... They claimed that I needed $600 more in work done, due to the other issue. I have since spoken to a few mechanics who mentioned going 50 mph for 30 minutes would not likely destroy so many other parts connected. Bottom line ... $1,000 later, I was told I had to replace four other 10 month old parts. I'm not going to say it didn't need to be done ... because I have no way of knowing. However, friends who work on cars mentioned they'd be shocked if that level of problem would occur in such a short time. The real reason for 1 star ... my brakes now literally squeal when I use them. Each time I stopped at a light, it sounds like fingers on a chalkboard. For $1,000. I called and the guy said to keep using them because the sounds would go away. Two months later, its still there and now I live 2 hours away, so going back to have them looked at is impossible. Bottom line ... I would not go back here. The staff is friendly but I should have read all the other reviews before dropping the car off. You are best off going to a dealership where you'll pay more but they are used to the type of car you have. Also, the mechanics left my car filthy on the inside. They drove my car to the lot with a wheel covered in soot. When I got home, my hands were black with grease and soot for 2 days of washings. Pete is an angel. Seriously. I realized last night that my two front tires were threadbare and made an appointment to get new ones for what I thought was today at 4pm. When I went in around 3pm, Pete couldn't find me in the computer and when I showed him the confirmation, he very politely told me that it was actually for tomorrow. I then explained my situation (insanely bald tires, hence my urgency and disappointment in myself) and he decided to take a look. He wouldn't let me in good conscious come back tomorrow since they were so. bad. and he was able to fit me in. Mind you, he was working the front all by himself and had been there since 7am, so he was dealing with my stupidity, answering the phones, and attending to the half dozen other customers who came in while I was there. He did it all with kindness, friendliness, and spunk, juggling all the tasks masterfully. I came back an hour and a half later to escape the heat, and was told that my car was almost done, and to my joy, under budget! This would-be catastrophe was stopped by someone truly caring, and I am beyond grateful. I am so pleased that Pete recently took over this location and I don't think it could be in better hands. Pep Boys North Main St. Prov....Don't do it. Total failure. Bought a set of tires, every tire under inflated by 10-17 psi. 5 days they kept my car for an O-ring on a water pump for a Subaru. 5 days for an O Ring! The car was dropped off on Monday for tires. The water pump is leaking they tell me, I reluctantly agreed to let them fix it. It's a 10$ part. Manager dodged me every time I called. I talked to him on Wednesday and he said told me definitely by Thursday. Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday...Friday!. They can't get the most common part on the planet. They get the part Thursday, there's no tech working on Thursday...he knew this. I told him if it's not done on Thursday I want my car back, I'm towing it out and I'm taking it to a mechanic. They have no way of getting the car out out of the bay, literally holding the car hostage for a week. I was ready to call the cops on them. Do not use this Pep Boys. read more

I am surprised that this location has such low ratings - they were able to help me out and while I spent more money than I'd have liked to, it's not their fault and they were friendly and informative along the way. The Store Manager (Tyson), is professional, friendly, accommodating, and patient. He seems to have a good relationship with the other employees in the shop, who also have positive attitudes and good customer service. The employees at the shop here are really what make me give this a 5 star rating. Pep Boys as a company, though, should improve their online appointment system, as it seems to be some disconnect between appointments made online and what the physical location has access to. I called on a Monday and asked if I could bring my car in for an inspection. They said that they were booked for the day, but I could bring it in the following day at 8am. When I brought my car in at 8am on Tuesday, they said they didn't do inspections on Tuesday. They do not take appointments either, so I couldn't make an appointment for the following day. I later found myself wasting away with many other customers in their waiting room for the next four hours. One woman waited 2 hours to have an oil change done (no tire rotation), and another waited 4 hours to have her tire plugged due to a nail. Several others were waiting over 2 hours for similar reasons. On a prior visit, I had come in for an oil change appointment. Upon arriving and checking in, I was informed that they had canceled my appointment, but had forgotten to inform me. Pep Boys has a communication issue. They fail to inform their customers about delays or cancelations, resulting in customers wasting their time. Appointments do not seem to matter. I won't be back. read more

Brought my car in at 830 for a pre booked apt for an oil change and to get my A.C looked at and fixed because it stopped blowing any air. Called two different times to get a status update and was told they were working on it. The communication between staff and myself was non existent as my car was there for 9 1/2 hours and I had my oil changed and the car put on the machine. I am confused as to why they ask you to book an apt if they don't even work on the issues of your car. Would appreciate some clarity and also compensation back because I essentially waited 9 1/2 hours for an oil change and for my a.c to not even be fixed or communicated what was holding it up. When I asked why no one even called me to let me know what was happening the person said he was the only person working. He told me he would call me in 45 minutes for an update an 1 1/2 later I called him and asked why he never called he said because he didn't have an update. I understand they might be short staffed but no communication is not good communication. I am stuck with an oil change and not sure when or how I will get my a.c fixed. It just seems like they do not prioritize customer service. I even asked why wasn't the ap working to notify me of updates and i was told there was a glitch with it which I feel like is something that should be communicated. My dad lives and breathes Pep Boys, and this is his go to location. Whenever I need car parts, he sends me here. My most recent experience here was great. I actually called before I went to make sure my items were in stock (as said online), they indeed were in stock, and I spoke to a very nice young man named Bryon or Bryson (I'm sorry). Online had amazing deals on my items so I chose the option order online and pick up in store. Firstly I wanna say the deals online were great 25% off each item, it saved me a lot of money. My items were available for me to pick up within minutes, which was amazing to me because I was having the car done that morning. Picking up the pieces was just as easy as ordering online. Went to the store was greeted by the same young man from the phone, he knew exactly what I was picking up. In and out very easily. The picking up process is great and very convenient. This location is very clean inside, and there's a great amount of parking. There's enough employees so the lines move quickly. I would recommend Pep Boys, they also were the place who refunded you the most money when returning an old alternator. Which saved me even more money. read more

This place in Providence RI is beyond acceptable. 1) The manager didn't even know which oil to put on my Subaru Forester and was attempting to use the totally wrong oil which could have destroyed the engine 2) I booked my appointments days before, but it took over 4 hours sitting there to get the oil change 3) They could not rotate the tires because they didn't have the right tools to remove the tires from the car 4) worst of all, 2-3 weeks after the oil change the oil light came up, I take the car to Subaru dealer and they informed me that there was almost a whole quart of oil missing. No leaks found, Pepboys did not put enough oil (basically the rob their customers). 5) To complete the things, trying to get get support from the headquarters is useless. I think that the Pep Boys located in North Providence is a scam operation. I first visited their shop early in 2024 to get an oil change. I made an online appointment, but when I arrived at my appointment, they told me I would have to wait 4 hours because they only had 1 technician. I was really angry because it was a week day, and I had taken time off from work for the appointment. Within the past month, I scheduled another online appointment for an A/C recharge. Again, I arrived on time but waited hours for the service. I was charged $271. I tried using my A/C once, and it only blew hot air and made clunking noises. I called them and had to go in again on a Saturday at 8 am which they promised me was their first appointment. I waited 3 hours while everyone in the waiting room was taken care of before me. I was again told there was only 1 technician. Then I was told there were a couple of leaks in the system, and I would need a new condenser for a total of $917. I said forget it as I am an elderly public school teacher who cannot afford that much money. So, I wasted a ton of time and spent $271 for nothing as I have no A/C. I urge people not to use them, and I am reporting them to the BBB, the Rhode Island Attorney General's office for consumer affairs, and the U.S. Federal Trade Commission. Buyer Beware! My oil light had come on recently... not that long after having an oil change at a place that left me feeling a little unsure. I wasn't overly concerned and originally planned to just check it myself and add some oil. Then right before I headed out, I noticed that one of my tires looked low, too. It was hot, it was a Sunday, and I had to drive to Boston the next day to pick up a friend at the airport and then head to the Cape. I'm relatively new to the area and decided that rather than try to find a service station where I could check my air AND buy oil, I'd go to an Autozone or similar. Pep Boys was showing as open and so I headed over. Turned out that on Sunday, the retail part of the store was closed. But the service part was open. I asked if they could top off my oil and check the air, and the said they really couldn't do that--they did oil changes but didn't sell oil separately. At that point I said, fine... just change the oil. Given the fact that I wasn't completely sure that the last place had done it right, I was willing to pay the money. 10 minutes later, the guy (I'm SO sorry I don't remember names!) came to me and told me it was all good, and that I DIDN'T need an oil change. That the oil was full and clean, and the light only came on because the last place hadn't reset it. They topped off my fluids and checked my tires and sent me on my way. He could have lied. Many places would. Instead, he was honest. Didn't charge me a thing. He could have assumed I'm some clueless woman and taken advantage of me. I came in for tire replacement for all four tires after having my front tire come off due to low air pressure/balding, and they claimed it was actually because of damage to my passenger control arm and it's spring which would cost over $1000 to fix and said couldn't rotate my new tires. mechanic came out and was super condescending to me, like I was a toddler. thankful I went for a second opinion at a different mechanic- guy I saw elsewhere said there was NOTHING wrong with my control arm or spring and the barring looked great (usually they're the first to show wear). Other mechanic rotated my tires and assured me everything looked great. Just felt like these guys felt they could make easy money from me because i'm new to the area and a woman. (and not only did they try and scam me, but that means they were too lazy to just do the tire rotation since there was nothing actually wrong, which baffles me) Don't recommend for young people or women to go to. read more

I had a tire blow out on me Saturday night. I drive an AWD vehicle, meaning I needed four new tires. I called around for quotes but long term Pep Boys has the best deal. I got all four tires, lifetime flat tire repair, lifetime tire rotation, and lifetime car alignment for $630 (and a free Lyft to my house and back to the shop) this was all done the Monday before Christmas Eve in 3 hours. Not only did I get great customer service from Daryl and Becky (who are patient and friendly) my car is running perfectly. Also I think I called Pep Boys 3 or 4 times before the appointment because I was nervous I wasn't getting the best deal (which I was) and they were very kind and gracious over the phone. Thank you guys, your job is definitely not easy but you guys rock. I hope you see this!! Weather forecast predicted snow the very next day, so my options to get winter tires mounted were limited. But are you FU kidding me?? $60?! AND it took an hour?? So I went to autozone they has three choices and all had lifetime warranties and they started at 21 bucks. I've been going to this Pep Boys for a few years and it seems like one of the few major chains that actually cares about customer loyalty. I walked in on a Thursday without an appointment because I had a severely overdue oil change. Despite them being booked all morning they managed to get me in and out in less than an hour. Gabrielle and Eugene even discounted my synthetic oil change which normally costs about ~$60. Another time I went in to install new struts and shocks. When I drove away I noticed they installed new wiper blades. I didn't ask, they just did it, no extra charge. The only thing I've had a problem with is the WiFi. which always seems to be having issues. But given the quality and speed of service, that's pretty much a red herring. It's hard to find a mechanic that's reliable and trustworthy. I'm glad that this Pep Boys is able to fill that role. read more

First of all they "replaced" my breaks, for me to have get new ones a month later. They are more expseinsive than HONDA dealership. I will never be back. I told them I had squeeking noise and they told me I needed new tires. Than I went to HONDA to find out that I needed new transmission fluid. They basically rob me in the daylight. Came in with an appointment to get my A/C looked at, and then found out the person who was supposed to look at it was on break, and it would take longer. They couldn't find a leak, recharged it, and then asked me to come back if it stopped working. Guess what? It did. So I called to make an appointment, and after the phone ringing and ringing and ringing, someone answered. He told me to bring it down whenever, that I would have to drop it off. I asked to make an appointment, as I was trying to schedule some things on my only days off, and he became quite rude. "Bring it down, drop it off, and it will take a few hours". I'm sorry, especially after last time, where I waited for far longer than I should have, and since I don't have any other means of transportation, I'm trying to get an idea of timing. And the staff member became more rude, telling me all the reasons he couldn't give me any of this information, even an appointment?! I stopped the conversation there and said I would be hanging up because I was taken aback by the rude attitude I was getting after having such polite service before. I bought a pair of Rain-X Latitude wiper blades here. Multiple signs and advertisements all around the blades stated they were 'Buy One Get One Free' with a mail in rebate - but the associate said all of these signs were old and they should have taken them down, which is fine - that stuff happens and I can understand. However, other signs stated that a Pep Boys associate would put them in for free, but the associate asked and the consensus was no to this as well (its a weekday morning, barely anybody in the store). I get that they may be busy with other crap they have to do in "the back," but at least tell me why? Just price compared to online, and OUCH - they cost 60% of what they do in store here. I'm trying to support the brick and mortar places but help me out here with a little more competitive pricing. I will be returning the blades.
