Came here to get a flat tire replaced. I called ahead of time to make sure they had my tire size and got the confirmation that they did. When I came in to get the tire fixed, they told me it should be an hour and 45 mins before the cars ready to go. The came out an hour and a half later to tell me they don't have the tire which they told me was there when I came in. I stopped in to pick up windshield washer fluid. The register is not clearly marked so I stood behind a customer be waited on. Down the counter were three employees. NO ONE acknowledgment me. I waited over 5 minutes. The employee helping the person in front of me didn't say anything, didn't call for assistance, nothing. I finally went down to the three and asked if they could help. THEY COULD. I was clearly upset for being ignored. I asked, "aren't you going to say anything?", thinking an apology was in order. She simply said she is in parts. This place is a con shop! Came in to get new front brake pads and rotors replaced, said that I needed new rear pads and rotors as well. I go to college out here, so I do my own maintenance at home, and can't when I'm at school in providence. Funny thing is that I had just did the rear bearings, rotors and rear brakes MYSELF before school started, a few months go. When I got the car back from pep boys I took the rear tires off just to make sure - and sure enough everything was fine, and the pads in the rear barely showed any wear. I stopped by to pick up a couple of things for my car. I wandered around a bit, with no acknowledgement from any of the staff. Finally finding what I was looking for, I approached the 30 yard long counter, behind which were 4 employees, one sitting on a table, and the other three hunkered together in a corner. They stared at me. I stared at them. After a good 40 seconds, one of them finally says "down here" and starts walking the length of the counter to a register. Those two words were the only things said to me during the entire time i was in the store. Maybe they hire mutes? If so, good for them. These clowns are incompetent crooks. First I brought my wifes car in to fix the AC. They say it was a relay. I had them fix it. I get the bill and paid it no problem. I go to drive away. I see the package from the relay on the passengers seat. Pep Boys marked the price of the dealer part up 300 %! I understand a mark-up but damn. My current mechanic tells me they mark up 15% and the dealer gives them a 15% discount on parts so they get 30% off and I absorb 15% of it. I have no problem with that. If the so called mechanic would have been smart enough not to leave garbage in my car (which he should not do anyway) I would never have known and I would have moved on. Secondly it didn't fix the problem!. I went back and they charged the A/C. Worked for a couple of days. I returned a third time and am told I need $800 of work. I tell them forget it. I eventually go to my new mechanic and have him look at it. After he finished laughing he says "These guys must be stupid. I leave it here and I will fix it and change the oil for you and give it a once over. Upon return I paid for the oil change which was about $30 and to get my AC working he charged me $58 to fix the leak that caused the AC not to work! How the hell did they miss the leak? Freon is bright greenish blue and visible on the line around the leak. I was thrilled to pay $58. Far cry from the $800 Pep Boys wanted. I told them (E-mailed Pep Boys corporate HQ) about how my new mechanic fixed the issue and that I was far from happy with the Pep Boys misdiagnosis and ridiculous mark-ups and shop fees. I was called back by corporate and was told they will look into it further. The next day the store manager called me. I was offered half the money back for the relay job. On principal I told him to keep the couple of hundred (After all Ted saved me $742 on AC repair) and I will do my best to discourage people from going to Pep Boys. I didn't want to come off as a difficult customer trying to get something for nothing and for them to think giving me a portion of the money back for a job I am not sure I needed would fix the problem of poor service and fleecing of customers. I hope he realized where he can stick the old relay they took out that probably didn't need to be changed. You should also consider the way these people nickel and dime you. They have a $7 "shop fee" that I refused to pay long before I had written them off. I told the manager "I wont pay a "shop fee". Don't take it into the shop. You can fix it in the parking lot and take the lug nuts off with you teeth!" I am not paying $7 for using your tools and a lift. Restaurants don't charge a kitchen fee." This location has been around for years and if their finance people did not depreciate these lifts and tools to 0$ by now the must be as incompetent as their technicians. Since that day I would tell them to remove that charge and they do. If you dare go to this dump I suggest you at least do the same and refuse to pay the "Shop fee" but you are better off avoiding them all together as I now do. If you look at my other posts you will see the mechanic I recommend and another that's just as bad as Pep Boys but for other reasons. I almost forgot. I gave my new mechanic of the list of suspension issues Pep Boys said I needed to do last year. I was told don't bother it's a waste of money right now. Would have been a bigger waste to change the suspension parts they recommended a year ago If I am told a year later I don't need new shocks and if I did change them yes I would get a slightly better ride but it's not necessary to do anything the suggested. It became apparent that Pep Boys employees are trained on the "up sell" whether you need it or not. Not surprised because the same person that TRIED to fix my ac was probably required to ask "Do you want fries with that?" just before he was hired at Pep Boys watched 30 minutes of videos and was given the job as "mechanic". I think Pep Boys hires McCanics. They need to replace the faces of the 3 guys with golden arches or hire people with knowledge beyond maintaining their own cars in their driveways on weekends. I only gave them 1 star bc I had to choose one.... If I could give 0 I would! Do not go here for service ever!!! I work nearby so it is super convenient to drop my car off in the morning and pick it up after work. I dropped it there for an oil change and tire rotation this Monday and I knew something was wrong the second I started the car. The engine was making a weird noise and when I went to drive away the wheels felt like they were slipping on a patch of sand. I pulled back in and went in and told them something was wrong bc my car was fine when I left it that morning. They took it back in to "check it out" which is a total joke. The man in the service area said it sounded like my transmission or my differential (which I knew was fine). I was worried bc I knew something was wrong but they totally brushed me off like I was stupid. They didn't even check the work they did, if they had they would have noticed the problem. I asked if it was safe to drive home and they said yes. So I left and got on the highway while the car still wasn't driving properly. I couldn't accelerate over 40mph and shortly after I got on the highway all the lights on the dashboard lit up and were flashing at me. I drove as far as I could to a safe location and got off the road and into a gas station. I checked the oil and discovered that it was way overfilled! Double the amount that it should be! I had to have my car towed to a Subaru dealership. They told me that I need a new transmission bc they drained the transmission fluid instead of the engine oil, then added 5qts of oil on top of the 5qts they never drained! It's borderline comic how incompetent the staff are here. I do recommend the "Pep Boys" if you hate life... or if you want a taste of what purgatory is like... or if you have masochistic tendencies. (etc.) I am writing this review from inside their dingy waiting room. Judge Judy is playing full volume, and I'm surprised to say this is the best part of my experience here. I am surrounded by three other families who, like me, have been waiting for at least 3 hours. This is actually my second day here, so counting yesterday I've waited a total of 7 hours (and counting) for them to change my tires, because yesterday, get this, in the four hours I was waiting, they were only able to put one tire on. Four hours...one tire. They were acting high. Now it is day two, and I'm still here. EDIT (Jan. 7, 2015): After my hellish experience, I discovered that they also destroyed my tire pressure sensor, costing me an additional $130. The PB employee who had changed my tires told me that the "tire pressure sensor warning" on my dash would turn off after driving for a week or so. But, after a month of it not turning off, I finally went to another shop (obviously) to have it checked. They asked me, "who changed your tires before?" and I briefly recounted to them my PB experience. They said I should take the contorted sensor back to PB to ask for them to cover my expenses, as it was clearly broken by whomever had previously installed the tires... Sadly, the idea of dealing with Pep Boys yet again (in any capacity) wasn't worth the prospect of recovering my $130. read more

I'd been here before for a battery replacement and an oil change with no complaints. Came back to get my tires changed... Well, they don't take appointments, you just drop in. So I did. I had to wait two and a half hours for them to *START* working on my car. I wasted an entire afternoon on something that took half an hour once they actually got my car up on the blocks. This was on a Wednesday afternoon with very few other customers in the shop. I'd hate to see the wait times on the weekends. So, the issue wasn't that I DIDN'T make my appointment, I was at the location since 2:45 for a 3 o'clock appointment and waited for 45 minutes, at which point my car still wasn't even brought into the car bay. At that point I asked the clerk at the front desk for my keys back so I could take my car to be serviced elsewhere, where your time and business is appreciated & respected! Futhermore, the staff is either looking through their phone or borderline arguing with each other! This place disgusted me so much that I had to create an account and tell you all about it. After today, I'm not surprised that this is just one of many 1 star reviews. I made an appointment to get a diagnostic code read, normally a 5 minute ordeal. I show up on time, wait at the service counter for 10 minutes while being ignored by a guy on the phone. Finally, someone else comes out, asks for my driver's license, and tells me it'll be a 2 hour wait. I promptly leave. The icing on the cake? I got an email saying "sorry you couldn't make it to your service appointment". The service is laughably bad, and the people are rude. Do yourself a favor and go down the street to Action Auto Parts. Friendly people, pulled my code in moments, and no data collection (and they have free mints). And from the sounds of things, you don't want Pep Boys under the hood of your vehicle anyway. read more

One star is more than these crooks deserve! Booked my appointment online for 2:00pm to get a battery install and oil change (advertised at $19.99 done in under 29 minutes) and arrived at 1:55pm. At drop off, I also asked that they visually check tires, but said not to fix anything because I have free flat repair at Town Fair. Service tech said it "should be an hour tops." Went for a walk and came back at 3:30pm, and my car was still unmoved in the lot with an empty service bay. 4:00pm and they finally bring my car in; still the only car in the service bay. 5:00pm THREE HOURS LATER!!!) and my car finally rolls out; service desk didn't bother to call me, had to go request checkout myself. At checkout, they tried to charge me $19.99 for flat repair after I asked them specifically NOT to do any flat repair, just visual check. It took two manager's approval to remove the begrudgingly remove the charge. Because I had to deal with this, I overlooked the fact that they charged me $32.29 for an advertised $19.99 oil change! Didn't notice that one until I got home. On top of it, my air pressure light was still on! And the icing? They charged an undisclosed "shop fee" of $4.50! This was a horrible experience. Went to get 4 tires replaced after the snow storm. After searching online, pep boys sold me with the buy 3 get a 4th free deal. For the quality of the tires I got and the price of installation ($80), seemed like a good deal. After dropping my car off at noon (my scheduled appointment time), I was told it would take 1.5 hours or maybe 2.5 hours tops if everything goes wrong. Well, they didn't start my car until 2pm and it wasn't done until 3. As I was getting my keys back, the technician recommend I get an alignment done. I reminded him that I had asked for an alignment to be done initially. So, my car went back in and I didn't get it back until 4. So, to recap, 4 hours to change 4 tires and do an alignment when I had set up an appointment online. That's pretty unacceptable. In fairness to them though, it appeared they were undermanned, the online booking could be messed up and not account for their actual workload, and they did give me the alignment half price for my troubles. The staff was also friendly and polite and handled the crappy situation reasonably well. I'm conclusion, their prices are some of the best I found (for tires at least), the staff is OK (seen much worse) and you can fishbowl them as they work on your car from the waiting area. However, don't plan on your appointment being your actual starting time and be sure to alot plenty of extra time for any work they do. After they made a mistake and I addressed it with them, how they responded has won me as a customer. You can tell a couple of their technicians really take pride in their work. They admitted that they messed up, fixed it, and there was no bull crap. Only thing I really have to knock off a star for is the bathroom. I get it... it's a mechanics bathroom what do you expect? I am writing this review previously to contacting the Providence RI store manager because when I called today he was not in the office but I will be calling tomorrow to express my situation. Basically, I usually use this store because of convenience to my work place and pricing but after visiting a privately owned tire shop this AM I question my choice. I also have had both good and bad experiences with this location but passed it off as a learning experience. What I found out today at the privately own garage is that PepBoys put different size tires on my Camry at the last purchase and that may be causing error codes on my dash. Mixed tires may or may not be the cause but my receipt list only one size. I never thought of even checking. The 2 tires I was having replaced were also not mounted correctly and full of goop but where that stuff came from is unknown. The rims were not properly sealed and had to be resurfaced after the mess was discovered. I will make another attempt to contact the manager to see what can be done against the tire warrantee I purchased and the wrong size tires put on the car. Came in for a simple tire rotation and alignment. Dropped it off at 11:15 and was told it would be done by 1:30, 2:00 latest. 3:00 and still not completed. There are 8 cars in the garage and not a sole in sight working on any of them. No timetable provided as to when this would be completed. Just had an awesome experience here. I had a leak in my tire that has been giving me quite a fuss. I brought my car to another shop and they were so unprofessional that I decided to not give them my business. I went to this Pep Boys down the street and was introduced to Gabriel. He explained the whole process on how they were going to inspect the tire and look for the problem. Gabriel showed me to the waiting room and made sure I was comfortable. The gentlemen working on my car were professional and worked diligently to fix the problem so I can get back on the road. I found the price to be extremely fair and I liked how they put a plastic wrap around my driver seat to ensure it stayed clean. I scheduled an appointment online for an oil change. I indicated online that I would be waiting for my car. I showed up and was solicited by a man in the parking lot, holding a fistful of cash, asking if I wanted my headlights shined. When I rejected his offer, he got into his van and proceeded to lurk around the parking lot for the rest of my time there. I went into the store and handed over my car key. A disgruntled woman was ahead of me, which wasn't a good sign. I then waited an hour and a half. They still had not taken my car in. I went in and there was no one at the service desk. I was ignored for 8 minutes before one of the employees asked me what I needed. I told them I could not wait for my car any longer and wanted my key back. They offered no apology or explanation for why I had waited so long and simply asked if I wanted to reschedule. I said no. And I don't plan on ever getting service there again. I will also tell everyone I know about their poor service. It seems the manager Michael Crocker has been aware of this very issue based on prior poor reviews and done nothing. Worst service ever. Had brakes and rotators changed with them a year ago. They shouldn't have to be replaced after a year especially when they should be able to go 18months or 18,000 miles, I have hit either of them. Called to make an appointment to have them looked at and the guy said to just come in. Went after work and sat around for an hour before someone came to me to let me know what was wrong. They told me it would be another hour for them to change the everything. Told the guy I'd just make an appointment for the following day. He put me in the system for it, but again they told me it didn't matter. Showed for my "appointment", when i pulled in, there were three mechanics standing around outside. Mind you they open at 8:00 and it was only 9:00. They said they had to look at it again to make sure that they needed to be replaced. This is the worst service I have got for a place like this. I went in for tires two weeks ago. The weekly circular advertised buy three tires, get the fourth free* (*after mail-in rebate), all brands* (*excluding Cornell). I wanted to get Futuras. In the store, I was told the rebate was only on Cooper, Hankook, or Definity, and they had Definity tires in the same size for only $10 more. I insisted that the rebate covered all brands* (*excluding Cornell) and had the circular in hand that read "all offers good June 28 to July 6." They still maintained the "all brands* (*excluding Cornell)" offer was over and I had to get the Definities. I called the Seekonk store just to confirm, and they told me the same thing. Since there was a wait of over an hour to get the car in, I told them to write up the work order for the Definity tires. Then I called the Pep Boys rebate center, and sure enough, there was a rebate for all brands* (*excluding Cornell) that had just begun the previous day. Thinking I had an ally in the customer service rep from the rebate center, I asked him to speak to the service technician to explain to hi that the rebate was valid. He betrayed me and simply told the tech to call the main customer service number, (800) PEP-BOYS. Customer service was of no service at all. The (800) PEP-BOYS rep told me and the tech that the line is only for customer complaints, and we should talk to the store manager, who, naturally, was not present at the time. We took his advice and called yet another store, West Warwick this time, and the service tech there was actually aware of the all brands* rebate. The work order was rewritten for the Futura tires and I walked home. An hour later, they called to tell me that they only had three Futuras in my size and I would have to come back Thursday afternoon. When I got there to pick up the car, they had misplaced the keys. One of the service techs put it somewhere where he "knew he wouldn't forget them," except he had forgotten. A suggestion: next time, use the rack with the hooks where the keys normally go. It was in his back pocket. The car went back on Thursday, the tires were in stock, and everything was done in an hour and a quarter. They guarantee under an hour in the circular, but who's counting? Finally, satisfaction. A couple of days later, I notice the center cap from one of my wheel covers missing and the lug nuts exposed. I have full wheelcovers behind the lug nuts, and a center cap that covers the nuts. There's also a slight squeaking noise that I assumed was just the struts getting worn from age. OK, so they didn't put it on all the way, tough luck. Tonight, I noticed another one missing. One loose center cap is tough luck, two makes me angry. Then my wife told me that our 21-month-old son was playing with the exposed lug nuts on the other wheel with the missing cap - AND TURNING THEM. I know he's a strong kid, but something's definitely amiss. Sure enough, the nuts are only HAND TIGHT. I'm guessing they forgot to tighten them after they took the car off the lift. I can deal with the rebate runaround. I laughed off losing the keys. I even brushed off bringing the car back a second day. But these idiots actually put my family in danger because of their incompetence. read more

The worst customer service you will ever receive. Not to mention the man has no customer service skills. I don't think they want people coming in for service. I had appt. for oil change and tire rotation that was made online. Man said his minimum was a 2 hour wait regardless and he doesn't take appointments before 10am. I had a 9 am appt. He could care less. I will never go to that pep boys again. Service dept didn't look too busy. Honestly, I wish I could take stars away because the service there is so terrible but I guess 1 star will get my point across. This is an incredibly long story but I am going to keep this short and sweet. I am not sure the mechanics there are qualified to be working on a Tonka truck let alone a real truck. They managed to botch our engine job, break the driver door handle, allow my husband to drive the truck away with serious safety issues that someone else discovered for me, the manager was extremely rude, they tried to sell him a new starter because they couldn't figure out it was the wiring harness, they lost the keys for a couple of days and essentially had to have their Warwick store mechanics bail them out of a huge mess. It took weeks of extra work, $2,800 in out of pocket costs (which they did reimburse), missed work/pay and a huge headache while my husband was away from home training with the military for several weeks. When we were able to get in contact with someone higher up the food chain we were finally able to get things settled. My truck is still not 100% but at this point we are done with Pep Boys and trying to work anything out. My advice is to avoid getting done work there at all costs. Not a customer-oriented facility. The staff has a very indifferent attitude and there's not a manager on site who seems to care. The wait is very long and special requests (in my case to check a loose shield under the car) are ignored. As an added bonus, I found out a few months after my 4 new tires were installed that several of my lug nuts had been stripped in the process. (Thankfully I didn't discover this on a dark, rainy night while trying to change a flat tire on the highway! Thanks guys!!) We actually liked the service, and the staff was helpful. We purchased 4 tires for our 10-yr old truck, also 4 new wheels. We were told there was a "buy 4 get 1 free rebate" on the tires we purchased, the Cooper HT. When we actually sent in the paperwork for the rebate, we were informed that the tire that fit our truck, although it was a Cooper HT, did not qualify for the rebate because it was a larger tire than the one in the rebate. Well, we feel that we were misled by both the store and the company. No one in the store said "Oh, we didn't notice--this particular tire doesn't qualify" when we bought it--we would have probably switched to another brand, or shopped around a bit more. We feel it was a bait and switch and we fell for it. We actually had a couple more things done there, and the service was good, but after discovering that we had been "taken" and were not getting our rebate, we will take our business elsewhere. We spent quite a bit of money there in like a week and a half, but will not use Pep Boys again. read more

I'm never going to this location again. I went 12/2015 for my front brakes to be done. They replaced my rotors and pads. The same week. I heard a squeaking sound whenever I braked. I called them and the guy I spoke to said it's normal but I could pay extra to have higher quality pads put in. I didn't do that of course. Then I went to Firestone to get new tires yesterday and they told me that the pads are sticking on the rotors so it's causing damage to the rotors.They told me to go back to pepboys because it either needs lubrication or to be replaced. so I've been driving around for 10 months making my rotors go bad before they're supposed to all because the man I spoke to didn't know what he was taking about. I have been a loyal costumer at your store for the past three years now despite the fact that I have to take a 25 mile drive from MA just to get to you. Why? because I found and excellent mechanic at this location whom I believe deserves to be recocognized for his excellent skills, profound knowledge, and his experience as well as his devotion for his costumers, Eddie.The same goes to service adviser, Harry.I have read many online reviews in which costumers are disappointed complaining about lack of costumer service and delayed attention to consumers. Employees seems rather careless and clueless as to how to approach consumers. I have to say that I do agree with these online reviews. This is why I took the time to write out this review and post it on every possible site out there because while believe me you need to improve some of the staff at this location you must also be aware that you have a jewel or two that know what service is all about and could possibly turn things around for you by becoming an example and sharing their work ethics with the rest. People like Harry and Eddie shoud be promoted. They both have infinite skills and great work ethics, they are great assets to your company and you should have them by your side as partners for success. I can not say enough about the excellent service that I received on my last two visits to Pep Boys on North Main Street in Providence. The employees were so helpful. They worked hard to help me save money on my brakes on my visit in November of 2012 and on my last visit on May 25th-they went out of their way to help me fix my tire in time to help me get to an important meeting. Hello, I have only been going to the pep boys on North Main street for about 5 months since I moved to this side of town and thus far all of my experiences have been satisfying. I have been having problems with my alternator for the past few months and I have been dealing with reman parts, i figured its all the same.... WRONG... I have gone through 3 alternators ans I have finally gotten the one that did the job. Every time I went in with a defective one I told John (parts rep) what was going on and he said its the alternator. So Ive been in and out all month with "bad" alternators, the second time i was in I spoke with Christine, they helped me so much, each time I brought the part back they gave me another one no questions or arguments, I had the receipt and they took it back. the third time i was in I had to special order a brand new one. they had it shipped to the store at no charge to me and when i went to pick it up John had done some research for me on the problems Id been having, gave it to me at no charge, when it was time to cash out I was prepared to pay the difference from the reman part to the new part and Christine had told me that because I had been in and out so many times with the same problem they would take on the cost of shipping and the additional cost of the part and I only had to pay the core charge difference. Now every time I go in they ask if everything is working properly and knowledge me by name. Thank you guys and I'm sure ill see you soon. read more
