I went to Pep Boys last Thursday 4/16/2026 to have my alternator and water pump replaced. From the start, the experience was a disaster. After they finished, the indicator lights stayed on, and they told me I'd have to go to a dealership to reset them claiming they didn't have the "codes". After wasting hours making appointments, it turned out the alternator was faulty all along. At first, they refused to admit it OR replace it insisting everything tested fine. But today, 4/24/2026 the general manager finally agreed to replace it. After a week of phone calls, wasted time, and money, I finally got my car back. And still, they didn't apologize, didn't acknowledge the hassle, and didn't even call me to let me know it was done. The general manager barely spoke, just told the associate to hand me my key. This whole ordeal cost me time, money, and peace of mind. I'm extremely disappointed and will never return. I wouldn't recommend them to anyone. read more

this pep boys location truly saved us when we broke down nearby halfway through a 15 hour drive. we had AAA tow us here in the middle of the night because they were one of the only mechanics open the next day on a sunday. it turned out our ac compressor went & took a belt with it. they had us back on the road within 24 hours! we are eternally grateful - shout out to antia & chris for being awesome read more

I needed a headlight replaced and called to get an estimate and see if they could accommodate me today. Ken, Customer Service Manager, quoted a price and told me they could definitely get the job done today and I could drop off or wait. When it was all said and done the invoice was much less than quoted as it took less time than initially thought! Further, since I had decided to wait, they took the truck in straight away and 30 minutes later I had a new headlight. What a nice experience dealing with honest people who are not trying to find additional ways to make money. Ken and the entire staff were extremely professional and courteous. Everything from her tone, behavior, and body language felt so unwelcoming and rude, derisive expressions in response to genuine misunderstandings and a complete lack of attempt to view anything from a customer's standpoint. She clearly made it feel as if she didn't want me, or herself, to be there. To be clear, the other employees are always friendly, service relatively good at a reasonable price. This interaction has single-handedly ruined any further business I will do with them and it is jarring that they would allow such absolutely poor service. read more

Super disappointed by what appears to be sketchy pricing . Came in for the second time for the same problem and was quoted a completely different price for a service that was included last time . $800 to fix a hose for my AC . Definitely not going to ever come back and will make sure to tell everyone I know about the terrible service and shadiness.. Almost 200 dollars to for a diagnostic ...eeek! AVOID 6300 Midlothian Pike. The shop was slow and I'm pretty sure that the labor cost and fees were inflated to get extra money from us . Thank goodness this is a second car . I need the information for the corporate office and will be reporting this location to the better business bureau. Still confused about how a diagnostic, ac flush and ac recharge was 200 last visit and now just the diagnostic was almost 200 with nothing fixed on my ac. Super shady ! I took my car here about a month ago due to a grinding noise which I assumed was my brakes. I decide to take it to this Pep Boys location, and as expected needs new pads and rotors which they did replace for me. 1 month later, my brakes are grinding again. Take the car back to Pep Boys, and they tell me it needs calipers and brake hoses. Then proceeded to quote 2.5x the going rate for a caliper I could buy at the Advanced Auto Parts attached to their shop. Upon further inspection, when the mechanic who installed my pads and rotors reinstalled my calipers, he loosened the bleeder screw because he couldnt secure them properly which inadvertently destroyed the new pads and rotors. I went back to Pep Boys, and spoke to Emmanuel. I asked for the parts that were under warranty from them (pads &rotors), and that I would take care of repair myself. I offered to let them inspect the damage, and they declined (even though they had previously inspected it). If the company in question reads these, I just want the cost of the parts that I paid for in the first place, since they were supposedly under warranty. read more

I don't know much about cars and costs other than it's usually expensive as hell. In my case, my AC compressor needed replacing, my brakes and front tires had worn out, on top of the usual oil change and state inspection. JANIE answered the phone and was profoundly accommodating, professional, and precise about what they could do. I called like 5 times to ask questions and decide on what to fix and JANIE was super helpful every time. After all was said and done I was going to be spending some money. BUT!! after asking nicely they were able to give me a discount that cushioned the blow a bit! Definitely a positive experience and my car was ready in 24 hours. Good stuff read more

Tried to scam me into buying new tires from them. Found a screw in my tire and went in for a flat repair, about 40 minutes later I got a call from them saying that the tire was not repairable because the hole was too big and that I'd need to get new tires from them. Declined the new tires cause their options were bad and told them to just put the spare on and I'd take it somewhere else for new tires. When I picked up the car I noticed that the screw was still in the tire, which was very suspicious to me, how can you tell the hole was too big if you never took the screw out? Dropped the car off at a Discount Tire Center the next day, not only did they fix it for me, they did it for free. I managed to walk out of that shop with a fixed tire, and $1500 dollars still in my bank account that Pep Boys tried to con me out off the previous day read more

I verified they had the part and check their hours on google and Facebook and when I got to the store they had a crumbled piece of paper with their updated store hours taped to the door. Went for a battery replacement in a 2013 Dodge Avenger booked the appointment online and was charged 13ish dollars for extra install time. Totally understandable because the battery is in the front fender well. After waiting 55 mins past my appointment I was informed they wanted to charge me 147.00 for extra service time. I canceled immediately bought a battery myself elsewhere and brought it to a mom and pop shop down the road that took care of me for $50 bucks in about an hour. Definitely go elsewhere. read more

I drive a 2006 Accord so luckily I don't need any major work done, but whenever I need something small from tire allignment to fuel injection work, etc. They do a great, fair, honest, and timely service and I'm always recommending them to others for quick and economical work. I just had my state inspection taken care of there too, and they only needed to change the wiper blades, although I probably needed some new tires ;) ...(And they obvi. sell them) Again, it's nice to know there's an honest body shop right up the road that can get anything done at the right price. read more

Had some amazing service tonight at this Pep boys location. I got out of work and noticed a screw in my tire...uhhh! Definitely didn't want to drive a rods town on it and risk being stranded in this frigid cold! It was 6:30pm..what to do? Pep Boys saved the day! They were able to fit me in tonight and got my tire repaired (The mechanic worked 20 min after closing to get it done). The mechanic and the manager were so friendly, they checked on me while I waited, offered me hit chocolate and even checked my battery because I was nervous about the cold zapping it. After a not-so- nice experience at another Pep Boys location across town ..I'm thrilled to say that the staff at THIS location restored my faith in the Pep Boys brand tonight. As a retired veteran and past Service Manager of Pep Boys I once again put my trust in the Boys and was highly disappointed. Jarett's customer service was horrible. I personally waited 15-20 minutes and then left the store because he ignored me. My wife dragged me back in and we went inside again, and it took him another 10 minutes to acknowledge us. All this time he had no physical customers, only is. Terrible customer service considering we have 4 vehicles and we get them serviced at Pep Boys. Avoid this place at all costs! They must have thought I looked like some sort of sucker because they tried to scam me. Here's the story; I had recently bought a 2000 Toyota Camry XLE from the original owner in absolutely pristine condition. It had never failed a state inspection in the past 16 years. I happened to be in Richmond this past weekend and figured I'd might as well get it inspected since it was expiring soon, so I found this place. First off, the man I spoke to told me he had absolutely no idea how long the state inspector would be there for and could possibly leave at any given second. This was at 9:30am. So I quickly left to get there asap. I arrive and hand over my keys for an inspection, I was the only one there. It took them an hour and a half from when I dropped off the car until it was done. They failed my Camry due to a "leaking power steering pump, leaking high pressure hose, leaking rack and pinion assembly, severely damaged control arm bushing and a broken strut guard". I asked to see what they were referring to as I myself am a mechanic and know about cars to a certain degree. Everything he had just told me was extremely exaggerated and I asked him to reconsider. The inspector/pep boys employee refused and slapped a rejected sticker on my windshield, took my $16 and sent me on my way. I was furious. I set up an appointment with a completely separate trusted mechanic in Yorktown area for when I left Richmond. Showed up tot that appointment and had a new inspector look at it, they completely confirmed what I had said, none of the items were nearly as severe as what the pep boys employee had claimed and were absolutely not warranting of an inspection failure. They gave me a new Virginia inspection sticker and just like that I was approved. Did I mention Pep Boys was attempting to charge me a quoted $1,200-$1,400 for the discrepancies they pointed out?? That was for all "remanufactured parts" they happened to have in their pathetic little shop. They are a bunch of crooks and will try to take advantage of you, steer clear and stick with other trusted mechanics for service/maintenance or just do it yourself! Hope this helps! read more

Made an appointment online for a simple oil change for 10am, got confirmation email and text. Upon arriving for the appointment, 15 minutes early mind you, I was told by the dude at the counter that I would have to wait 1 and a half hour because other people get there ahead of me. What's the damn point of having an guaranteed appointment when you are going to be told you have to wait. Absolute worse experience, lost a customer that purchases quite a bit of parts from Pepboys. The customer service was horrible. My room mate bought an $80 tire which was defective. She went in with the receipt and tire and they refused to refund her, despite the blatant requirements in the warranty. I was there to have my tire patched and get an oil change. The man "helping" me just kept trying to sell me a new tire, despite the fact that it should have been an easy patch. The employee and his manager were both incredibly rude. I have mostly always gone to Pep Boys for any auto repair I need. I was ecstatic to see Buddy from the Glen Allen store now at the Midlothian location! The Midlothian location has definitely turned around with times, cleanliness, and customer service since Buddy made the transfer. I trust wholeheartedly my vehicle in their possession. I know I will receive accurate repair suggestions, a fair price, and excellent work. Kaitlyn is the most honest and knowledgeable worker there! She is the best multi-tasker ever. While on the phone calming an irate customer, she checked me out, and found a part for another customer with attention, respect and a smile on her face for each of us. What is the point of making an appointment for an oil change, when they "guarantee" it will be done in 30 minutes (apparently, this starts from the time they get your car into the bay, NOT when your appointment time was) and then have only one technician and some lame excuses about the online appointments not being in their control. Hire some more people and figure out your computer system, and stop the false advertising. I will happily go back to Merchant's, which is less convenient location-wise but vastly better customer service. read more

Apparently the employees don't know what their own hours are. I just needed an inspection done. Went by midday on Saturday & was told they were too busy. The guy at the counter said to come back tomorrow. I asked what time & he said "we open at 8 AM. I would get here by 7:30 at the latest." I didn't realize they worked on Sunday - so I asked again to verify. Tomorrow, right? Be here by 7:30? I don't need an appointment? He confirmed that. So I get up early on the ONLY day I have to sleep in for the next 2 weeks & the floors are locked!! An employee emptying the trash cans tells me they don't open until 9 and he doesn't know why anyone would tell me to be there at 7:30. As if I would make that stuff up!!! I'm really pissed at this. A total waste of my valuable time. No apology. Nothing. So Pep Boys has lost my business forever. I won't go back & cannot recommend them. read more

The place is a total joke. I showed up for my 11am appt and was greeted with.."Your dropping this off right?" When i said no, im waiting, that is why I mad an appointment, the response was an eye roll. Magically the black woman in skintight clothes also with an 11am appt, that checked in after me, gets her car into the bay instantly. Fast forward to 12:30 and after 4 other cars have entered the bay, mine finally makes it in. It's then another 45 minutes to change two tires. I have never seen an auto shop where not a single person is sweating. Its was like they were all in slow motion. Finally I pay my 300, and go. Later that day, I open the back to find they didnt even put the spare back in the well, it was just setting on the floorboard. Bottom line: appointments are meaninglessness, the "mechanics" are lazy and no one cares about the quality of service. I will never visit a pep boys again. read more

I have received multiple state inspections at this Pep Boys and have always had a pleasant experience. Recently I was on my way to DC and a belt broke under the hood of my car. It was pretty awful, but this store was able to help me get a tow truck and fix my car quickly and at a reasonable price. Whenever I need anything with my vehicle I am sure to give this store a call. Came here for an oil change, and was told it would be about 30 minutes by a nice gentleman behind the counter. I went to grab lunch, came back an hour later, and they had completely forgotten about my car. After I had asked about it, two employees told me it would be serviced immediately after the car that was currently in the garage. I sat and waited, the car left the garage, all employees I'd spoken with went home, neglecting to inform the remaining ones about my car, and it sat in the parking lot while both garage workers smoked cigarettes and ignored me sitting alone in the waiting room. As I went back up to the counter to ask again, one man recognized me and before I could ask for my keys back to go home and cancel my service, he reminded the girl in the garage of my car. Waited over 2 hours for a 20 minute oil change, serviced after everyone who came in after me, and was ignored by employees while I sat. Never. Again. read more
