I came in because a piece of metal was stuck in my tire, and I wanted to see if it could be repaired. I was informed that I would need a new tire. Instead of charging me for a brand new tire, they realized my tires were fairly new and could be replaced under a warranty to help save me money. I appreciate them for thinking outside of the box to help me with this issue, as most auto shops take advantage of women who are not very savvy with cars. The staff was absolutely friendly while I was waiting for my tire replacement. The decor had a vintage look and was very aesthetically pleasing. I'm actually sad to type this review because I have returned multiple times for new full sets of tires and minor tire work along with sending quite a few of my friends over to you all. I recently went for an alignment which I successfully received but a member of the team was incredibly hard to speak to because for some reason she felt I was silly for my choice in tire sizes on one of my vehicles. I completely think that is fine, not everyone sees eye to eye, but because of the way she was treating me and speaking to me was not entirely the kindest. I think she completely ignored my request to have my suspension inspected before moving forward with the alignment. I told her that I suspected the wheel bearing was giving way and if so, I would like to take the car to my mechanic and avoid getting the alignment at that moment because it wouldn't be my best option. She doesn't say the staff had anything to say about the wheel bearing so I was pretty excited that the noises coming from my car were probably just tire cupping from uneven wear. Well, I take my car to my mechanic the very next day and he lets me know that my wheel bearing is essentially on its way out. I couldn't believe it because 1. It should be impossible to do a perfect alignment with a failing wheel bearing 2. I've trusted you all for so long to make sure my vehicle was safe and for great tires and I even tipped on the alignment. It's hard to find great mechanics that you can trust and I've always been so happy to let you all service my car that I actually feel betrayed by the bad customer service and the potential that I wasn't warned about a dangerous issue with my vehicle. It sucks ands it's sad, but I will not be returning. read more

I kept going around to different tire places trying to figure out why my tire would go flat on a weekly basis. All these other places couldn't find the leak, but Vonderlehr found it and fixed, all for cheaper than what the other places were quoting. I rarely provide reviews. However after spending the weekend driving around to the big guys locally (Discount Tire, RNR, etc.) and being sorely disappointed (promised tire was in stock, changes in prices, etc.). I just sent an email to Vonderlehr. They responded right away, gave me a timeline for my tire which was accurate and cheaper than the big guys. Additionally they were just wonderful people. I hope I don't have to see them again but if I ever get in the same situation or need anything, they have a client for life! read more

These folks really go above and beyond to ensure reliable, honest, service. They may not be the cheapest in the neighborhood but they are trustworthy and go the extra mile. My parents have been bringing cars here for tires and brakes for like 40 years and have only had good things to say. They spent time and energy checking out my issues and showed me what was needed. They did not charge me when they discovered it was not work they do and offered to subcontract with another shop to ensure my issue was resolved on my ridiculously short timeline. On 1/9/25 we were heading for Richmond, driving up Rte I-95 from Florida to our home in Connecticut, in our Subaru, with brand new tires, when the car's computer registered low pressure in one tire. We filled it, could not find the cause, and it seemed to be holding, so we decided to look at it again in the morning. That night, while we slept at our hotel, the tire went completely flat. At 7 AM we called AAA. At 7:30 AM their emergency service man put our doughnut on the wheel and recommended Vonderlehr. We drove there. They found a large screw in the tire, patched it correctly (from the inside) and had us back on the road by 10:30 AM. They were fast, efficient, very friendly, and charged us only $25. If you own a vehicle, you need to know a good mechanic. You prefer they be honest and give you accurate and clear advice. The day you purchase a vehicle, it becomes a liability. The best you can hope for is to keep it running and well maintained and hope it lasts. I had a good mechanic shop in NoVa but when I moved to RVA, I knew I would have to start all over...with everything. After a fair amount of research on the cost of brake replacement and repair, this place kept rising to the top of the lists. I spoke to Warren on the phone and explained I needed all around brakes and rotors. He took my info and said he would call me back with a quote. He did and it was almost 50% less than the best quote from 3 other shops. I made an appointment, got it in and out within a few hours and felt really good after Warren went of their warranty and service program, This is a busy shop for a reason. It make take you a while to get your vehicle in the shop but you can be sure you are getting good work done at a fair price. read more

Full disclosure: while I observed the whole process, my friend was actually the customer here. Still, it impressed me so much that I wanted to write a review of the place. My friend was referred here by a person at Paradise Auto to get an issue with her tire straightened out. Long story short, she brought it to this location, we left for an hour and a half, and came back to find the problem completely fixed for next to nothing (less than $15). I'm not looking forward to having any tire issues, though if I do, I will be glad to give this location my business. Great service at a great price! Overall: 4.5 stars --------------- Pros: - Cheap fixes! - These guys definitely know their stuff and solve problems quickly. - Parking is relatively easy here and it's easy to get here. Cons: - Not in the nicest area, though we didn't observe any problems while we were here. Just come to handle your business and leave and you shouldn't have any issues. read more

Tire blew out on I-95 late Friday afternoon, about 50 miles from Richmond. We were headed in for grandson's Saturday wedding. Found Vonderlehr Saturday AM on Duck Duck Go. Limped in to the shop on the spare. The gash was too big to repair; they didn't have a 19-inch replacement to sell me; it was 11 AM and they were closing at noon. John contacted his dealer, left the shop, got a matching tire and had it installed by 11:30. No extra charge. Nice people. Fair price. Excellent service. If I lived in Richmond they would be my GOTO guys. read more

I have been buying tires and other services at Vonderlehr for over 25 years. Their service and professionalism is nothing short of impeccable. Yesterday, I took my car to the shop because the tire pressure gauge on the dash would not go off. The diagnosis was 2 tire sensors needed replacement, a job that would be about 45 minutes. After 90 minutes, I asked the technician if he had found anything else wrong. He said he was having trouble with the new sensors being recognized and he was looking at all the different settings and switches in the system. I mentioned to him I had recently had the car cleaned thoroughly inside and out. Right then, he looked under the dash and saw a button in the wrong position. Case closed, car started, warning light went off and it is still off. The job took longer than anticipated and Stuart could have justifiably charged me more than the stated price due to extra labor that was partially my fault. But Stuart would not hear of it and told me how much he appreciates my continuous business. I will go to Vonderlehr as long as I need their services. read more

My daughter got a flat on one of her tires. I wanted to match the replacement tire to the rest but the tire model had been discontinued. I found one online and had it shipped to Vonderlehr who mounted and balanced it for their normal fee, which seemed to me to be hardly worth their time since I wasn't able to buy the tire from them. I have reviewed Vonderlehr on FB, so I figured I'd show some love on Yelp too, as I had another recognition-worthy experience there since my first review. In late December, I popped a tire in Norfolk, Va. Luckily, I was able to get home on the doughnut tire. I was able to stop by and the speak to one of the employees (the owner?) about the available tires for my Subaru. He ordered the necessary tire and told me to return the next day. When I returned, it turned out that there had been some sort of mishap. I understood, as it was right around the new year and they're a small business. I'd taken time off from work, so I wasn't pressed about it. When I returned the next day, they changed out my tire and he gave me the tire at a discounted rate. He told me that when I returned in the spring for the other tires, which I will be doing soon, that the others would be added and I'd be able to get the rebate for all four tires (some sort of deal when you get four tires). My post may be a little jumbled up near the end, but the takeaway from this review is that this is a local business that can be trusted. I have been there for numerous patchings too. They keep it real, have fair prices, do a good job, and make it right when there may be hiccups. Tires can be DAUNTING. There are so many places and different tires and deals and bla bla bla. If you choose Vonderlehr, then know that you're in good hands. I always choose Vonderlehr for any issues that I have with my tires and I recommend that you give them a chance too. read more

Friendly, fast, and simple. Came in for a screw in my tire, they had it patched, back on the car, aired up all tires including the spare, and put the spare back on, all in about 15 minutes, if that. Honest, knowledgeable, and quick. I blew out a tire and replaced it with a spare. I brought the damaged tire in (without an appointment!) to get a second opinion and after a ~20 minute wait, they said that it needed it to be replaced. Since I'm selling the car soon and the other tires had less than 25k miles on them, I didn't want to replace it with a new tire, so they sold me a used one that was the same size, speed rating, and tread life. Was in and out in about a hour and saved me about $150. Will definitely be returning for all my tire needs and referring all my friends and family. read more

I visited this location based on the kind reviews I read on Yelp and its proximity to where I was on VCU's campus, only about a mile away. It is quite close and convenient, and right by VUU if you're familiar with the area. Area looks a little rough, but not a concern. Appearance: the inside office is quite clean for a standard auto shop. I was pleasantly surprised. Lots of tire related decorations as well. Dim lighting. I contacted them because I had a flat. I initially called to see if they had my tire in stock. They did not, which wasn't a problem for me. They assured me that they'd be able to order it and have it in the next morning if needed. The customer service and friendliness was great. The man told me that if I could come in they could check to see if I only needed air and if I did need a tire they could make sure that what they ordered matched (something I hadn't considered, but was impressed at the detail). Upon arrival, either the man I spoke to was busy or not there, but not a problem. An older black gentlemen helped me. Found the nail right away in my tire and fixed it under 15-20 minutes. It was windy so he welcomed me into the garage while he was working. Minimum cost for tire repair is $18, which is all I paid. Note: I didn't feel pressured to buy a tire. I asked if he thought I needed one, as I don't even know how to put air in my tires, figured he'd be more experienced to answer. He said my repaired tire would work fine and the simple repair would be cheaper. Nice people, good service. All of which I was seeking and appreciate. read more
