I've come to this Pep boys before. Brought my car for regular oil changes. But recently I've brought my father's car to fix an issue a previous mechanic had done. in a different mechanic shop. I spoke with the worker Peter, and was very friendly and helpful with explaining what the issue was on my father's 2015 Dodge Caravan. He explained what needed to be done to resolve the issue. It got taken care of. Also, I have taken my own car (Toyota Corolla 2015) to get a wheel alignment and a new set of tires. Peter then again help me and explained in great detail the warranty of the tires. There are Great Mechanics at this Pep Boys location. I would definitely return to this location. read more

My car was making a noise I never heard it make. Made an appointment online which was easy. Arrived a little bit early and one of the employees took me right away. They explained everything to me. And in the end just fixed the problem for literally cheap. I was amazed and relieved. Because some people are gonna find hundreds of dollars worth problems. Don't even bother. Made a 9am appointment today to have my new challenger inspected by them after I already had my shop inspect it so I knew the right front brake caliper pin was stuck. You could hear me brake 5 blocks away. Get there and I was told the diagnostic guy isn't in today leave it overnight. I show him the invoice from the other shop and was told they have to do their own diagnostic. Really your mechanics all turned to look at the car after hearing it grind. Now I took the day off for nothing from them. Now that Pep Boys was bought by Mavis they'll hopefully clean house and fire all of them, but mavis is another crappy chain store so I doubt it. I made an appointment to get wheel alignment. Michael, that's what his shirt said, checked me in quickly and gave me an estimated wait time. They do usually give updates on the link on the phone. The car was done in about an hour and I was on my way to go camping. I think the price is fair about $120 for the wheel alignment. read more

Terrible service, the staff is incredibly slow. More than three hours for a simple oil change.

I recently had an oil change done here, and unfortunately, I'm very dissatisfied with the service. The next day, my check engine light came on, which was very concerning. Because of this, I had to bring my car to a Nissan dealer to have it checked. That's when they discovered that the dipstick had been left improperly in the oil tank. This is a basic but critical step that should never be overlooked. This mistake caused unnecessary stress, inconvenience, and additional expense on my end. I expected a routine and reliable service, but this experience clearly fell short. This company is the worst! Why accept walk in clients if you're not going to service them in a timely manner? Where does it say that appointments get preferential treatment compared to people coming off the street? I came to this location at 925am. They open at 9am. It is now 2:37PM, and i am still waiting for an oil change!! I've asked the workers, how long. The original estimate was 1130am. No update after that. I was told, appointments come first, and since you didn't have an appointment we had to do other vehicles before yours. There is no time frame as to when this will be complete, no helpful employees to give out information on your vehicle. It is a Sunday afternoon, and I've been stuck in here for 6 hours for a 45 min service! I will never use this business again! I advise others as well to steer clear. I called Pep Boys for a quote to change my own 4 tires and was told $30 per tire. At the shop, the manager said it was $38 because I was not buying their tires. I felt this was very deceptive. To make sure I hadn't misunderstood, I called several Pep Boys locations nearby and they also quoted me $30 per tire. It felt like I was being overcharged and misled. I went in for a simple oil change, and their carelessness damaged my car. They left my engine cover unsecured, and while driving on the highway, it scraped against the road and bent out of shape. When I returned, they tried bending it back instead of replacing it, even though their mistake caused the damage. I contacted corporate customer service, was promised a follow-up from management, and never heard back--just ignored after multiple calls. I'm usually not a, "leave a review guy", but If I can deter even one person from coming to this location I'll take it as a win. So basically I came to get my tire patched, after having it plugged on two occasions, because the tire kept leaking air. I came and said I needed to patch the tire, not a plug, because it kept leaking air. I waited an hour and a half for them to patch my tire. I paid and went about my day. When I drove away from the location, I found it odd that they didn't even bother to inflate my tire to the normal PSI. And would you believe it, but the next morning my tire was flat again. I chalked this up to the fact that maybe the tire was just done, and there was no way to plug or patch it. Yesterday I went to a tire repair location in Astoria, and relayed all the information that I mentioned prior, telling the owner that I needed to replace the tire because I plugged it twice, and patched it once, and it was still leaking air. He proceeded to remove my tire and guess what, there was no patch! I literally looked into the interior of the tire, and saw that there was no patch. They never patched my tire. You know, the literal only thing I went there for. Now it's not about the money, I couldn't care less. But what kind of nonsense company pulls this type of stuff. I had an appointment several days in advance just for an oil change. Still, I had to wait a long time in line and then they still serviced several cars before mine so it took a few hours, even though I had a reserved time. Not a single employee was wearing a mask, even though signs required customers (and employees) to do so- not caring about covid safety is not very cool. Also, with extra "hidden fees" the oil change costed more than twice what I was quoted, and I had to pay almost $90 and wait hours for this super basic thing that usually costs like $40 tops and takes 10-15 minutes. Definitely won't be going back. UPDATE: Changed from 2 to 1 star. I followed up with the email they commented, and they told me to call a phone number. Nobody ever answered me; they said the store left me a message but they didn't, and I've tried calling multiple times. I've been a pep boys customer for years and needed some new tires because of a blowout. The service techs most of the time are proficient, but this time they have an inept klutz working in the tire department who mounted and balanced my tires okay, but he left all the old tire weights residue on my rims which is highly visit. First mistake, secondly, he somehow managed to ruin my hood by trying to close it with the prop rod extended. It has taken 3 plus weeks to get compensated for the damage by Pepboys claims department who cut me check with an amount they deemed justified, even though I gave them estimates that total a bit over $2K. Now I have to have wait another week plus to get the vehicle repaired. Ridiculous! Guys, they do a free inspection ( Money Grab ) of your vehicle to possibly garner more costs for repairs. Usually, I don't mind, but it adds more waiting time and in my case I ended up with a damaged vehicle. If at all possible, do not allow them to do anything except for why you are there. FYI, They damage my oil pan bolt thread many years ago and denied it of course, so I don't let them do that anymore, mostly I'm go there for tires and parts. Sometimes quantity over quantity is bad business. They get one star, because the manager when out his way to help rectify the matter. read more

It's only a 1 star because you can't give ZERO! Not worth it, breaks were replaced just to feel exactly the same way they felt prior to getting replaced (actually going back in today to get it checked). That's with the new rotors they swore I needed. I also needed 2 front tires although the ones I had still had meat/grip. Did I mention they didn't perform a wheel alignment because according to them I needed two more things done before that.... I guess I'll drive this way until I can get the other 2 parts done and by then I'll need new tires! Did I mention the total for repairs was 4,300$ just because my car shook/vibrated when reaching 60. Needed a state inspection for my car. Pep Boys allowed me to make an 8am appointment. There seems to be a few complains about not keeping appoitments. I will provide an update tomorrow. 3 stars. ********** At 8am, there were at least 15 people on line before me. There were two service managers taking service requests. I can't tell if the people were just walk ins or had appointments. Based on past reviews, the chances are that I have to wait a while before work can be done on my car. I informed the service manager while on line (30 minutes) that I want to cancel. He waved and I left the line. ********** In summary problem doesn't seem to be with Pep Boys. There are just too many people needing service. Just remember to allocate extra time when coming to this place. ********** Pep Boys, if you are going to allow customers to make appointments, then our expectation is that you will honor the time. Recommendation: Have two lines at the service desk. 1 for appointments and 2 for walk-ins. If you have one service desk person, then the priority for the service desk person would be to handle the appointments first. read more

Terrible, been trying to get an oil change for almost 2 weeks here maybe I'm at fault for giving them so many tries to redeem themselves. Attempt 1: I was a walk in so the wait time was over 2 hours Attempt 2: Made an appointment for 4pm thought maybe the end of the day would be better and again they tell me 2+ hour wait time just to get started, what's the point of the appointment? They tell me best is to come in early in the morning. Attempt 3: Was rescheduled for 8am on Saturday. And I get a notification that they cancelled the appointment when I tried to reschedule Saturday morning was all booked. Attempt 4: I rescheduled for 9am Sunday morning, I came about 40 minutes early and saw a line of people outside already. I come to the Service Check-In only to find out that the mechanic who services my car isn't available today because he's sick.... I made an appointment for 8am for an inspection on my 2021 lease. It was passed 9am and my car was still in the same spot in was in when I arrived as they were opening the door. I told them I was leaving and they were telling me the technicians get here at 8 which makes no sense because I was there at 8 for a 5 minute diagnostic guaranteed passed inspection. I was livid I wasted an hour of my life in a hot room with 8 other people who were getting their cars fixed. Bottom line, I made an appointment, no excuses! The person at the counter was horrible , but in all honesty the manager of that specific store should have rectified that situation get a real manager for this location. I can see I'm not the only customer with this issue lazy employees means bad management ! I called customer service they have yet to respond to me , The manager of this location should not have a job there end of story . I was given a complaint number they should just close this location . from my experience at this location the manager definitely lacks the skills to hold that position. I took my car to pepboys to get a new tire that my wife put a hole in it by mistake. And she took the car back in October. Come to find out that the technician broke the TPMS and said nothing. He replaced it and never programed it and glued the old on onto the rim and put the new tire on. With all this happening never told anyone what happend. I took my car to the dealer to see what's wrong and they told me what was wrong. The technician was wrong and I don't blame pepboys but the technician only. Avoid at all costs - mechanics did faulty job which led to additional $400 bill to repair. After getting a tune up here my car started to overheat. The mechanic I took it to asked me if I had work done recently because the radiator cap was put on improperly. Save your money and go elsewhere. read more

The service here is horrible. There a Caribbean girl that works the service counter that has the worst attitude. She talks so harshly and won't give you eye contact. Went in for an oil change, said it would be a 1-1.5 hour wait. First they strip my drain plug and don't have an extra in house. It takes them 3 hours to locate a new one. After 3.5 hours I return to my car only to find a new scratch on the right side. They say there is no way it could have been done while getting serviced, although the manager is able to rub fresh residual rubber off from around the scratch. Clearly it had just been done. What a poor, mishandled, trash operation. They do not carefully take care of their clients cars.
