Honestly, one of the worst customer service experience I've had. My boyfriend brought in my car, one of my tires had a nail in it and we were in need of a new tire. They asked whether we wanted to get 4 new tires. I decided, reluctantly, since winter was coming that I will buy all brand new tires for my car. They asked us whether we wanted to get a tire rotation and alignment. Since we recently got both, we declined. The worker asked us again and we declined again stating that we were only interested in getting the tires. When we came to pick up the car the following day, they told us that they were charging us for the tires, the rotation and the alignment. When we said that we never asked for the rotation and alignment and actually declined it, the same worker said that it was done anyway. They then tried to give us a discount for the services, despite that we specifically asked that they not be done! We had to speak to a manager about this and finally were able to resolve it after going back and forth about the situation. Do not go here, they will try to upsell and charge more for services that you didn't ask for. read more

Just got the oil changed in my jeep. I asked them to check the tire pressure and they supposedly also did a rotation of my tires. (there was a service man's name next to that line item on my receipt) i'm just getting Home after a doctors appointment I had. I check my tire pressure and low and behold the pressure is exactly the same as when I brought it in. Including the fact that my rear drivers tire was at 32 PSI and again after The supposed rotation My rear drivers tire is still at 32 psi! this obviously leads me to believe there was no rotation of the tires which is supposed to be included in the oil change. I brought $1,000.00 of tires for my van 10 months ago n I started to rotate them n I had problem with 1 of the lug nuts n a final got it off out when they installed the new tires they Strip the lug nut threads now I need to replace the rotors on the front because of it n Now the tire rim is being held on by 4 lug nuts not 5 Until I replace the rotor So it now costing me another $800.00 but 1 new lug nut because of their mistake. I've been here since 9:30AM, was told there is a one hour delay until the Master Tech can look my can over. Let me just say that I can't recommend this location to anyone, the customer service is not great... I mean awful. I use Pep Boys for oil change and stand year maintenance this location will never see my car again. Let's be honest they charge a pretty penny for repairs and back it up with a good warranty but this location needs a over haul in the staff and training I'm writing this as I wait for a repair, was told it would only take an hour..... I got a flat tire on Sunday, and since it was Memorial Day weekend, most businesses were closed on Monday. I was happy to see this place was open, and figured it's just two tires (I had been needing a second one, so I bought two), and my husband drove over to buy the new tires. Today (one day later), my husband was driving my car on the Jackie Robinson Pkwy, and when he accelerated over 40 mph, the car shook and he heard a banging coming from the front. He got out, thinking he had another flat, but didn't see anything wrong. He drove straight to our regular mechanic and not only were the new tires placed in the back, instead of the front, as he'd requested, but TWO of the lug nuts had fallen off! One tire had only two lug nuts left. I commute to NJ and if this had happened to me driving on the highways or bridges, I could have been seriously hurt. If I could give 0 stars I would. Went in to get my car inspected - it failed due to my rear breaks being too low. The first issue is my breaks were NOT metal on metal, which is the law in New York. They told me it would be $900 to replace my brakes and my rotars. At that ridiculous price - i told them no thank you, I'll get the repair done somewhere else. I go to drive my car off the lot and they have scraped off my inspection sticker without replacing it. When I go back to ask for my 10 day extension (WHICH IS GIVEN TO ALL VEHICLES REGARDLESS OF INSPECTION FAILURE) I was told I was not being given an extension. When I asked what I'm supposed to do without a sticker and parking my car on a public street, the manager Ayana Alexander told me that it was "my problem" to solve. The only choice they gave me was to pay $900 for my brakes and drive my car with no sticker. Needless to say I took my car without the sticker. DO NOT GO HERE. Especially if you're a woman. They take advantage and do ILLEGAL practices to get you to pay for repairs. The manager (AYANA ALEXANDER) is a poor excuse for a manager, and is whole heartedly rude, nasty and terrible. The service techs are no better. I will be reporting this facility to the DMV, the inspector you did my car to the Board of NY, and I have an appointment with a lower for a discrimination case. No matter the location, if there are more than two to three people looking for a part or any automotive accessory at the same rough time frame, there is a line at the parts department and one sales associate getting bombarded while trying to stock inventory on the shelves. Clearly not the fault of the employees, under staffing comes from above. Pep Boys from the retail side sells items that are a waste of space. How do seat covers and fuzzy dice options outweigh the space for such necessary items as motor oil, which occupies a small third section of a wall in the back. Then rake you over the coals on price. DO NOT GO HERE. Would you ever buy something from Amazon with about 100 reviews averaging less than 2 stars? My rear driver side tire is leaking so I needed it patched up. I've called ahead to see if it was busy because I'm short on time. They said it would be about 45 mins for a tire check and patch. I go in and they tell me about the same time. About 1.5 hour past, I go check the garage to see what the hold up was. This "mechanic" called Shazam had my hood open and was spraying my tire to see where the leak was Except that it was the wrong tire he was spraying. So I go up to let him know. He promptly looked at his work order and realized he made a mistake and then proceeded to tell me that he can't patch up my tire because it was dry rotted. So then, Why are you spraying my tires to check for leaks if you can't fix it anyways?! Also why TF is my hood open? COMPLETE WASTE OF TIME and Incompetent Mechanics. Every bad review you see from this place will tell you that you will be upsold on parts and labor that you do not need and there will be a ridiculous wait time. Take your car elsewhere. But it was clearly from their store. She was very rude and it was only an $11 item she acted like she was losing out by giving me a store credit. My first visit here was 2 weeks and 3 days ago. My check engine light came on and since I just got the vehicle the warranty company advise me I could bring it into PepBoys. This was the closest location so my husband and I brought it here. We already had the code checked and knew the issue was with the evap valve. PepBoys confirmed and also said the warranty company has them do a complete inspection of the vehicle so they also found my front brakes/rotors needed to be changed. Fine it was all approved from the warranty company. Our appointment was at 9 am and my car was completed until after 4pm! Fast forward to 2 weeks and 1 day later the check engine light came on again! I called set an appointment for today. Had the code read and it's the same code. Brought it in for our 9am appointment and they confirmed it is the same code as before! Now they wanted to run a smoke diagnostic on it but have to wait for that specialist to get in. After 1pm finally found out the guy never showed up and no one can reach him. Wtf! I took off 2 days from work now and still can't get them to fix the issue! I even told them if it's something not covered tell me and I can pay for it out of pocket! I just want my vehicle fixed!!! Dropped off my car @ 6pm for a wheel balance, was done @ 8:55PM ....The wait was much longer than I expected! Greeted by a great worker by the name of Shorn if I'm not mistaken. My key ring was pretty old so he gave me a new one for free, he also gave me a rewards card when he did not see me in the system. I explained my vibrating, wobbly problem when I drove and he then advised me that he would give me a free break & rotor inspection. I also inquired about the free code reading due to the error messages on my dashboard and he did address them as well. Come to find out the problem was my front right axle which lexus did tell me about the same problem. They offered to fix it but I have a family friend who's a mechanic which would be way cheaper. Horrible experience! I opened a credit card account with pep boys not even 2 months ago, for new tires. My tire kept catching flats so I made an appt for 12pm. They ended up keeping me for 3 hours even with an appointment, to tell me they gave me a messed up tire. I originally got the tire for free but still had to come out of pocket for other expenses. In the mist of me waiting for my car once it was done I noticed my car had a large scratch in the back. Regan a Machanic started immediately arguing with me, all because I simply asked what happened. I did not accuse them I just wanted some clarification. I spoke to a manager..(don't quite remember her name) and she said I had to wait 24 hrs for another manager to get footage because she didn't know how to basically do her job. She kept saying my scratches were old, when I knew I did not go into that parking lot with those scratches. All these managers yet no one knew how to 1. Get footage and 2. Talk to their employee Regan for being very unprofessional during the incident. I ended up calling the manager Sean who knew how to fix the cameras the very next day, to tell me "he couldn't find nothing". Didn't apologize for the inconvenience or atleast offer me to come in and see the footage. (Which I don't trust them or the footage) will be canceling my card & not returning to this ghetto place. This is the fourth time I have brought my car to this location out of nothing more than convenience and each time the experience continues to get worse. Suffice to say, this is my last time ever visiting a Pep Boys location. On Monday night, my car would not start and after calling AAA, they advised the car needed to be towed to determine the reasoning for the car not starting. Since I was a block away from the Ridgewood, NY location, I decided to have the car towed and left overnight in the parking lot. The next morning I receive a call and they advise me they were able to start the car. When I questioned the issue, I was told they could not diagnose the cause for the car failing to start since it then started. If I wanted to determine the cause, I would have to drive the car, wait for it to not start again, have it towed back and then they could determine the issue. This was the first red flag. Next, they are telling me I need brakes, a new starter, oil valve caps, a new battery and struts. The comical part was they advised I had the "incorrect" battery in my car. Well, Pep Boys sold me the battery 4-5 years ago so that is the negligence of Pep Boys. Next, they quoted over 3,000.00 for a new starter. Then, they quoted 950.00 for oil valve caps. Unless I have moron written on my forehead, I picked up the car and left. I brough the car to a local mechanic and they found the quote for a new starter hilarious and the quote for the oil valve caps was 250.00. Never Again will I visit any Pep Boys location!!!!!! I came in today with my boyfriend to get an oil change. When we were asked how long it would take the employee told us that the process is about 45 minutes and that our car was the next one to be done. So we figured with the hour and 30 mins we have to spare we would leave and come back. We got back later than that time and our car wasn't even put in yet to get the oil change. So I get you want customeers but why lie and waste peoples time? at this point we already waited this long so I figured to get it over with. We finally were done after over 2 hours! The only reason I give them the one star is because they did let us know about the 20$ off coupon on their website. But sadly the service here was not worth it. Wish I could give ZERO stars. PEP Boys is a SCAM ! I took my vehicle here for a check up due to some noise coming from the car when I made turns. After the "evaluation" Pep Boys came back with a $1700 repair estimate, and a super "nice" discount bringing it to $1400. The parts were well over $800 and the work, another $900. Thinking I actually needed the work, but declining to have Pep Boys do it, I bought the same exact brand and quantity of parts listed on the work order for a mere $400 (from Pep Boys website), 50% off !?? How ?? Anyway, after receiving my parts, I took my car to my actual Mechanic, and he insisted there was nothing wrong with the car. In disbelief I took my car to a third mechanic who has never worked on my car and they told me the same thing, NOTHING is wrong. Pep Boys just wants your money, it's all a scam. I always go to this particular pepboys because its very near to my house but the customer services of some of this managers in this store is ridiculous, no empathy no compation just in it for the paycheck. I went in to buy a few things for my car and I had a $10 coupon that the store mail you so I decided to use it on my purchase but for some reason the coupon wasn't working so I politely asked to see the manager and here come the store female manager telling me that its already been redeemed and that I always make a fuss every time I come into the store. I typically come here mainly out of convenience. I don't think they ever rotate my tires with oil changes as they should be doing considering I also get the car back with the exact low pressure on the tires I came in with. They replaced the oil plug on my vehicle during an oil change, suddenly I have oil leaks they said the pan needs to be replaced before even inspecting it to see if it wasn't a stripped plug or if it actually was the pan. Front and rear brakes were changed. Weren't due yet but I decided to change them. Brakes were squealing since then I thought it would go a way in time, they also suggested it would. 3 months later drivers side front and rear still squealing when I come to full stops, I take it in to check them, they tell me it's minor rust on the rotors causing it due to weather conditions and maybe me not driving it enough. Although rust can accumulate, I don't believe that is the case considering it was happening since the new rotors were put in. Did they put some old rusty rotors in or did they never change them at all. I'm starting to think the latter. They just shrug it off like it's a common thing. Going to take it for a second opinion, I am starting really believe that they charged me for rotors that they never even swapped, along with an oil pan that I didn't even need. 30k miles on this vehicle, none of this makes sense. I've been here before for several things, bought tires, oil change, inspection etc, so when a recall issue on 09/14 caused my car to stall on the side of the road I had the tow truck take me here. They were able to see the issue quickly and started work on my car right away while waiting for the alternator that needed to be replaced to arrive. I came back a few hours later and had my car back once again working the way it was supposed to *whew I have a car again!" Thanks pep boys! Went there for a set of tires. The price for the tires was decent so I went to Pep Boys. They told me I needed new back brakes and rotors. I asked if the current rotors could be machined smooth. They said no the rotors need to be replaced. The wanted to charge me $885 for new brakes and rotors. I went to my neighborhood mechanic who machined the rotors and replaced the brake pads for $225. This wasn't the first time they tried to overcharge for service. Like I said the tires are a decent price although I later found the same tires at BJs for $50 less for the set of 4. I don't know if they work on commission but I wouldn't have a bulb changed there!!! read more

I always thought Pep Boys was a good place. I brought my 2005 Altima in for the A/C problems.. they first changed the compressor, then a week later no A/C . I bring my car back and they tell me it was a valve. They change that. 1 week again the A/c stopped working.. I bring it back for the A/C and a wheel bearing. They call me to tell me we can find the leak it must be behind the dash board and we dont have the tool for it. They told me to go to the dealer. And I ask what about the wheel bearing. Oh he didn't check that the mechanic went to lunch, hell check when he comes back. so I left it .. I go and check on my car, it's just sitting in the parking lot.. I go to work and then go to back to get my car , which no body called me to tell me its done, and my car is in the same spot. I talk to the manager and said same thing about the tool they needed for the A/C, and No mention of the bearing.. So I ask.. one of the employees had to go and ask the mechanic . And said he test drove it and didn't here any thing. The noise in my car is so loud that people on the street point. If you don't want to do the work just say so, but dont lie to customers. So they didn't fix my ac problem just changed parts and repaired things I most likely didn't need. That is shady business practice. *SUMMARY*: Beware of getting coerced into more than you wanted to spend. When they turn the computer screen around to show you what they want you to commit to purchasing (for itemized car service), take your time and ask what each and every line item is and whether it is truly essential or not -- regardless of how long the line is behind you. Initially "Miguel" was very helpful over the phone, and he was the initial reason I went to Pep Boys in Ridgewood over the one in Jamaica. But when I got to the Ridgewood store the line for service was relatively short, but not moving at all. I stood there for about a half an hour. Miguel was busy with someone else, so I was led to a guy with a tall rasta hat who got someone to look at my car. The mechanic knew right away what needed fixing, and he even took me in the garage to show me. (I needed some replacement parts, alignment and a few other things). But when the guy in the rasta hat "computed" everything and spun the computer screen around, the total bill was much higher than I expected. There were a lot of things on the screen that were difficult to figure out exactly what they were. **This is where you need to be on your toes.** The mechanic had said all new tires were recommended, but I could get away with just the front tires. However all four tires were added up on the screen. Also, there were a lot of "warranty" items, such as one year for warranty for something rather than the standard FREE three months warranty, which begs the question: if you just get your car fixed, wouldn't you expect things not to break down again within a year? Anyway, I told him to remove the warranty items and only purchase two tires -- by the way, I asked what tires he had "chosen" for me, since he never asked me what I would like: for example, what quality tires and how much I was willing to spend. They were just "selected" for me. As I waited for my car to be fixed, I found a coupon for buying 3 tires and getting the 4th free. I went back and said I would like to add two tires, and the same guy behind the counter strangely berated me saying that's what he initially told me. Not so, and not the way to deal with customers! (When someone is working in a customer service position -- at a good company -- it is that person's job to make sure they are understood by the customer. You don't turn a screen around with a bunch of cryptic information and quickly coerce the customer to nod and say yes and hand over their credit card. True, there may have a long line of customers, but in that case get more employees and spend better, more focused time with your customers.) I left feeling I spent about $200 more than I really needed to, and I would have ended up spending more if I hadn't demanded explanation. I'm giving Pep Boys two stars because the actual automotive service was good. Would I go back? Not without being very, very attentive and inquisitive. UPDATE -- I've spoke with a few people who say never to go to Pep Boys, saying they had similar experiences of being quoted high prices for unnecessary items only to go somewhere else to get it done much cheaper. This place is poorly ran. Went there on Sunday 5/20/12 because my shop is closed on Sunday. After my experience I would rather wait 1 week for my mechanic than EVER do business here again. We came into the shop. It looked like a slow day. There was about 10 guys "working" in the shop. Out of the 10 guys "working" there was about 3 of them actually WORKING! The other guys were BSing on their cell phones, eating Chinese food in the shop area or sitting around doing nothing. Our shop worker put our car on the lift ... took out his phone and started BSing on it. He then sat down decided to make a phone call which lasted about 20 minutes. When he was finally done with his phone call. He got up went under the car tightened 2 screws that were rattling and we were done ... This is after about 45 minutes of waiting. My husband asks "so there was a screw missing?" the guys nods "yes" he then asks "was the other side loose too?" the guys nods "yes". C'mon guys what kind of customer service is this?? THEN they have the nerve to charge us $20?? Never in my life have I experienced something like this before TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE! I was so pissed and I even made a comment in front if the guy who rang us up, but it seemed as if they are used to getting complains or he knows that the guys that "worked" on our car was an absolute slacker with a crappy attitude. I went in to get my car inspected. They asked if there was anything I would like them to check on the car. Sure, there is a weird noise coming from the rear tire. They said they would check the noise out before the inspection. About half hour later, they said that my car wouldn't pass inspection, that I needed to change the brakes, some brake plates and other stuff that would come up to $800 so that my car would pass inspection. I said NO, that's too much. So Chris, the sales guy goes back to "talk" to the mechanic to see if there is something they can do for me. Chris comes back and says well you only need the back ones, how about $500. I left asap without the actual inspection. I don't know anything about cars but I know when someone is trying to rip me off. I had my car inspected someplace else. It passed without a problem and the mechanic said there was nothing wrong with my brakes. Decided to give Pep Boys a try when the last car shop I went recommended me oil change every 3k, knowing that my car uses synthetic*. I made an appointment online. Pep Boys provides free tire rotation with oil change service -- perfect, exactly what I needed. You'll need to park your car by the mechanic area, then head into the store for the service counter to confirm/request the service you want and hand over the key. I waited a while on the line at the counter (and a longer line formed while I was waiting for my car). They definatelly need more staff in the front. At 11am on a Friday, the gentleman behind the counter was doing paper work for two clients and answering the phone at the same time. I think making an appointment makes a difference. They will prioritize working on your car first. The oil change and the tire rotation took around 1 hr and 10-15 mins. Well, all I hope is that they did a good thorough job. So bring a book, play a game on your phone or watch the Wimbledom game like I did on the tv in their waiting area. The staff are friendly, and they honored the coupon I pulled up on my phone without a fuss. The AC in our car would get cool but never cold and we decided it was time to get it fixed before our next road trip. Our regular guy that we trust told us he does not clean car AC units so we took a chance on Pep Boys. I read the Yelp reviews and thought twice about going there but I have to say they were EXCELLENT. They saw us with ought an appointment (there was a short wait but it was fine and they have a comfortable waiting area with phone charging sockets). The quote was less than I was expecting and the AC now works better than ever. We will be back here again and suggest you do the same! read more

Be warned, this Pep Boys does not honor appointments. I had an 11am oil change appointment and was told that it couldn't be done until 1:30, because walk ins were in line ahead of me. Do not allow people to make appointments if you'd rather take walk ins. It is a waste of my time and yours, and I will find another place to go instead. Edit: A very nice lady at Advanced Auto Parts told me to go to Pace Tire & Diagnostic Center, under the Goodyear tire sign at 68-31 Eliot Ave. It's just down the block, not even 2 minutes from Pep Boys. They were super nice and my oil change was half the price, they fixed a couple of little things they noticed free of charge, and I was in and out within the hour. I ordered tires from TireRack and had then shipped here. They called me immediately when they came in and left a message. I called them back right away to inquire if they had time that day and they indeed did! I drove down and was pleasantly greeted! I took a seat in the lounge and able to make a few calls. Everyone was excellent communication and I was waiting less than an hour. The cost was around $40 for two tires. Don't do it. Someone quoted me $200 and tried to say my headlight and horn issue needed a horn replacement. I went to my local non-chain mechanic in Ridgewood and it was $20 to replace the fuse. I just left my car there for service over the weekend and I am very happy with the customer service received. I had an appointment and was helped by Brandon to check in my vehicle. I had all four tires and the rear beakes replaced and happy how my car is driving. Unfortunately after picking up the car, I could not locate the wheel lock and I called the shop. I spoke with Marlon about my issue and since the service manager and the tech who worked on my car was not available, he recommended I call back the next day. To my suprise, Shorn, the service manager called me the next day to check on my issue. I was able to stop by the shop later that day and when they could not locate the wheel locks, they happily replaced them for me. Shorn actually performed the service himself since I was on my way to a dinner reservation and could not wait too long. Just the best place to get your stuff (Car) done. I'd come hear in an heart beat if something would come up I can't take care of myself. Today inspection and overall complimentary service quick, fast efficient and on point as usual. Maybe here and there a little rough around the edges but keep in mind we are not always the most patient customers :-). So kudos to them for keeping up with us. Love your car, bring it here IMO. I only go here for oil changes, tire changes and to pickup auto supplies. That being said, there is always a 1hr wait or more to get your oil change. I usually change the oil myself but it's been really cold outside. They really need to add more workers to keep up with the customer demand. I have no complains regarding the work, I only wish a 15 min oil change wouldn't take 1hr. There is one pro, with all this time I can write a review on yelp Update: this oil change is taking me 1hr and half. I see that the oil change was compete but when I ask the guy for my keys, he tells me that they have to complete my paper work. Which is taking an 1hr...changing my rating from two stars to one read more
