We scheduled a noon pre-purchase inspection at the Pep Boys on Bearss Avenue in Tampa for a vehicle we were considering buying. My wife and I drove from Orlando (about 1.5 hours), and the seller also met us there at the scheduled time. When we arrived, the store manager informed us that our appointment would be delayed by approximately three hours because they were busy and a technician had not shown up for work. Unfortunately, we had not received any phone call, text, or other notification that our appointment would be postponed. Neither we nor the seller were able to wait an additional three hours, so the inspection could not be completed. As a result, we lost significant time and incurred unnecessary inconvenience. While unexpected staffing issues can happen, the lack of advance notice and the manager's apparent indifference to the impact on all parties reflected very poor customer service. Based on this experience, I would not recommend the Pep Boys on Bearss Avenue. If you need a pre-purchase inspection or any time-sensitive service, you may want to consider another location with stronger customer service and better communication. read more

Horrible customer service. My wife showed up to the appointment at 10am for a simple oil change. They kept telling my wife while she was waiting that they'll get to it and they're really busy. They finally raise the car at 1pm. We needed brake pads too but again they weren't giving my wife a definite answer on how long that would take. So I called them around 2:30 and they said they will be done at 3:30. Well I decided I was sick of them not giving my wife definite answers and things weren't adding up, so I showed up myself. Of course, they had JUST STARTED on the brake pads when I showed. I was extremely upset since they've had my car for over 5 hours at this point. They tell me the first brake pads they ordered were the wrong ones. Why wouldn't they call us and tell me that when it happened? Very unprofessional and poor communication. They said they need an hour or two now that they have the brake pads to change them so I said fine and 20 mins later, they call me to tell me that this is actually the THIRD pair of brake pads they've ordered and that now they would have to buy the pads from the dealer and it will be more expensive. I said no, I'll just take my car. They were very incompetent. They tell me they'll call me when they put the old brake pads back on and I can get my car. I wait until 6, one hour before closing. I call and they say my car is ready and when I ask why nobody called me, he says they're busy and he's the only one there. I show up to get my car and only 2 people in the lobby and he's just there chatting with the mechanic. They're incompetent, inconsiderate of people's time, and have poor communication and customer service. Worst mechanic I've ever been to. They had my car all day from 10-6 for an oil change. ladies beware! do not visit this shop without a male present. there is alot of deceptive practices at this location. i visited 02/20 after calling to ensure my 2 new tires would be there for my car to be towed as it was the closest tire shop to me. otherwise i never use these type of companies because i know they take advantage of people. but i really needed to get to work and had 2 flat tires. i called and spoke with chris who advised me the tires would be on a truck and to the shop by 10:30a. so i arrived and waited. once there i was greeted by jose and chris who seemed flustered as it appears corporate was there. that should have been a red flag. i asked on the phone how much the 2 tires and labor came up to and was told $215. the tires got there and it took an hour to put on 2 tires which is all i asked them to do. while waiting i overheard jose say they ordered the wrong size tire but i didn't think they were talking about me as there were other customers waiting in the lobby. after waiting an hour jose rang me up and the total was $230. i'm like why is it more than $215? he's like "oh maybe they forgot to tell you tax". i reviewed the receipt and saw they charged for the valve caps which i didn't ask for like just use the previous caps that were on the tires. i was in such a rush to get to work i left. once riding i notice my tire pressure lights were on which they are usually only on if the tire pressure is low. so my dad met me at work and noticed they gave me 2 different size tires the front one is bigger than the back one. also the caps were old plastic caps. i do not believe they even put on the new ones like they charge me for. i've been very busy. today, i stopped by to advise them of my finding. chris and jose were there i walked in and spoke with chris he came out and told me it was pepboys policy if they are putting 2 new tires on 1 side that they are supposed to remove a tire from the opposite side of the car to avoid swaying. i had never heard such a thing and have had tires changed in the pass and this supposed method had never been done and the car was fine. basically he referred me to jose.. jose came out and accused the wrong size tire to already have been on the car although it is a brand new tire and all my tires previous to visiting this shop were all the same size. he was argumentative and in no way shape or form was resolution based so after going in and asking chris for the number to corporate and realizing that number did not work and the store doesn't have a service manager right now and i see why they are very unprofessional and frauds to be specific. since this review is just to advise customers to beware i will also write bbb to make them aware of their deceptive practices. read more

Eddy was SO helpful and kind; my car frequently doesn't start and most mechanics treat me like I'm dumb and I don't know what a battery is. He educated me on what could be draining my battery without being condescending at all and was AWESOME. 10/10 would recommend. I love this Pep Boys!!! Background: I bought a very fairly priced battery from this Pep Boys which somehow ended up not working and my car wouldn't start. My car is definitely a lemon and has had so many issues that could've contributed to my car not starting, but luckily it was just a fluke battery! My warranty covered the new battery, and I just pulled up to the bay, got it changed, and left all in under 30 minutes. Awesome experience :) read more

If you do not know anything about cars and are just hoping to find a decent mechanic you can trust, do not come here. They will take you for a ride ! I used to go out of convenience and every time I went there for an oil change, they had a laundry list of things that were in dire need of repair. After a while, I started to suspect that I was being ripped of. It inspired me to learn how to do little things myself like changing filters, replacing an MAF sensor and fixing my own drivers side window by replacing my power window motor. So how AMAZED was I when i took it in for the next oil change, the first things on the laundry list of work I needed was to change my air filter and MAF sensor (I didn't clear out the code). The sensor is a $28 part on Amazon and took me less than 5 minutes to unscrew and replace. They were going to charge $108 for the part and $139 for labor. They charge $127/hr for labor so yeah they're telling you it takes over an hour to do a five minute job. And they are ALWAYS defensive about their prices and quick to snap back at you when you're surprised that you're being presented with a $1700 bill when all you wanted was an oil change. Customer service not a company priority. read more

Very annoyed with this place. On July 13th I had to put air in my tires and when I checked, the front driver tire was the lowest. I took it to Toyota, and they told me there was a nail in the sidewall of that tire so the whole tire needed to be replaced. They also broke my TPMS sensor so that had to be replaced. I didn't want to pay the $400 for a new tire, so the next day (July 14th) I took it to this Pep Boys. It was an all day thing, but Pep Boys ended up telling me that the front driver tire did not have a nail but that the rear passenger tire had two leaks. They did show me the two leaks and patched them up and did an alignment, so for that I am happy. But then, one week later (July 22nd) my air pressure light came back on. I went back to Pep Boys on July 23rd, and they said again they didn't find any leaks in the tire but that the TPMS valve core seemed to have a small leak so they replaced it at no cost. One week later, July 29th, the light came back on AGAIN. I decided to take it to my brother who works at a Pep Boys in Orlando and he was able to find the issue after taking the tire off (see picture). It's being replaced now. I am frustrated that this Pep Boys (Bearss Ave) did not notice this issue. They clearly did not put in the effort to actually solve the issue. read more

Ok buckle in because I have a point to make here. My '08 Jeep Wrangler finally wore through its factory clutch so I started shopping around for a garage with good prices. Pep Boys had the best deal in town so I towed my Jeep over and had them do a full replacement. This was my first mistake. After a couple days I get my Jeep back but it's making a horrible squealing noise once I drive it more than 5 minutes. Ok, no big deal everyone makes mistakes, so I set up an appointment and head back to Pep Boys. They take the Jeep for a few days (during which I'm forced to take Uber's to work) then give it back to me. It still squeals. I head back to the shop and have a long conversation with the manager who assured me he just needs to order a new part and it will be fixed. So I leave it with him for another few days (more Uber's to work) before coming back to pick it up. It still squeals. At this point I'm over it. I set up an appointment with another Pep Boys location and leave the Jeep with them for several days (This time my Mom lent me her car, such a saint). And boy does this manager have some things to tell me. Apparently there were only 3/9 bolts actually holding the transmission together, the rest were missing. Some more assorted pieces inside were wrong or gone. He also tells me if he can't fix it he'll talk to his higher ups about getting me a new transmission. Cool. Anyway he orders some parts, I pay for a new throw out bearing (like $200) and he gives it back to me. It still squeals. Alright, that's fine, now I just move on to the new transmission like the manager said right? Wrong. In the two weeks between when I saw the guy and called back to ask about the deal he got fired, and no one knows what the heck I'm talking about. Now I am truly desperate. It was working fine when I gave it to them now it's making these unhappy noises all the time. Is there damage being done to the engine? Is my clutch prematurely wearing? Is this Jeep going to blow up on me while I'm driving down the highway??? I don't know. I thought about suing for a refund but honestly I don't have time or money to go to court. As a last ditch effort I go back to the original location and ask them what they can do. The manager says he can replace the bearing (or something, I don't remember the exact part) with a heavy duty part that should fix things. Which makes me think, why aren't they using the correct OEM parts in the first place? But I digress. He then tells me he can't keep looking at my Jeep and makes some accusations that this must all be my fault. Never mind the fact that everything was fine for the last 12 months I've driven the thing. So I drop off the Jeep. I take more Uber's to work. I get the Jeep back. It. Still. Squeals. Now I'm at my whits end. I know the mechanics here are either incapable of correctly installing a clutch, or they did some damage to the transmission and are trying to cover it up. Idk. But I figure if the previous manager spoke to his higher ups about my situation they must remember! So I try to look up the district guy or whatever his title is, turns out that information is nowhere to be found. Ok, fine, I do the next best thing and send an email to their customer service department with receipts and a testimonial. Radio silence, not so much as a phone call. And I know they got my emails because I received automated confirmation responses from the department. In total 6 months of back and forth to garages, countless Uber's, massive stress, about $1500 in bills, and my freaking car still squeals. So that was back in March of 2018, almost 2 years ago. Every time I go in for an oil change the mechanic comments on the noise. I hear it when I'm in the drive-thru, while I'm idling at a red light, when I have it in park. It's horrible. I spoke to the dealership about fixing it but it's going to be serious time and money I don't have right now, so I'm kinda just living with it. At least the car hasn't blown up on me. In summary this place is fine for an oil change or tire rotation, for anything major do yourself a favor and learn from my mistake. Pay extra and go to the dealership!!! read more

THIS IS THE WORST PLACE TO TAKE YOUR CAR!!! If I could give this place less than one star I would. The labor prices alone support my previous statement. I need a few little regular maintenance repairs and an axel leak repair and the over charged me. It took them WELL over 24hrs to fix something that they assured me would be repaired by the end of the work day. I was told that they accept checks by the manager so the next day I came intending to pay with it and whatever check system they have in place would not accept my check without explanation. Value: Oil change prices comparable to other companies. Convenience: Open 7 days a week. I was in and out in an hour after reserving an appointment online. They changed my oil real fast and while i waiting in the lobby with my two kids (8 and 6) and me feeling completely out of the weather Bc I'm getting over the flu, i saw the greatest customer service i had seen in any place in a very long time! The guy at the front i wish i could remember his name, but he was fantastic! Not only with me but with the people walking in and out of there! The phones were ringing off the hook, he only had two people working on a million jobs, and he carried himself so professionally and went out if his way to try to find other pepBoy stores to help the customers he couldn't help that night. This review is for Pep Boys on 2304 E Bears Ave, Tampa, FL. I recently got a set of new tires from a different Pep Boys but picked up a large piece of metal that punctured 1 of the tires and needed to be replaced. I searched online and found the nearest store was on Bears Ave so I called them and confirmed they had a replacement tire in stock and headed over. When I arrived the guy behind the counter confirmed they had the tire in stock but quoted me a price significantly above the online price. When I asked why the price was higher he claimed it was for fitting, balancing etc. I showed him the price on my phone from the Pep Boys website which also included fitting etc but he said that price was only for online purchases. I said I could order on my phone but he said if I did that I could not have one of the tires in stock and would have to wait 2-3 days for a new tire to be shipped. I told him I would complain to Pep Boys head office and he then told me to accept the inflated price or leave his store. Not only did they try to jack up the price but I felt I was being extorted and I thought the guy was pretty rude so I left. Next I went to a different Pep Boys on N Florida Ave where they quoted me the same price as the website and were professional, friendly and fitted the new tire quickly. I will just add the first store was a smaller converted Just Brakes location and the second store on N Florida Ave is an established full service location with a large retail parts and accessories store attached. The first store on Bears gets 1 star (I would give them 0 if I could) and the second store on N Florida Ave, Tampa gets 5 stars. Obviously not all Pep Boys are created equal. read more

I've been to this location twice since I've moved to Florida. The staff is really nice, I went in my first time because my breaks were squeaking and so I figured they needed replacing (I should have checked), but the guys there were honest and told me they were practically new, they showed me the break pads and explained what might be causing the squeaking when I break. They provide quick service and are extremely friendly. The only down side is I've spent a couple hundred there trying to get my car to stop jolting when I'm driving and none of what they suggested seemed to make a difference even though they assured me that it did only for me to find out as soon as I started driving that it was still doing the same thing. I guess for something like that I need to take it to a full service mechanic anyways, but it was worth a shot and I will keep going back to Just Breaks for oil changes and break replacement. read more
