On March 18th, I went to Speedway Pep Boys to get an estimate on the air conditioner ("ac") repair for my Dodge Durango. I explained to the Intake Writer that my ac compressor was not cycling properly and requested ac repair estimate. A short while later, about 9:45 am, the Intake Writer explained that the mechanic found that the ONLY AC PROBLEM involved a leaky low pressure line with its removal and replacement repair costing a bit higher than $800.00 with repairs complete by 3:00 pm. I advised the labor estimate for the low pressure line R&R was a bit high since the line ran across the top of the engine compartment. A few minutes later, the Intake Writer agreed the cost was too high and he reduced the estimate by $100.00. He advised he would also apply a military discount reducing costs farther Around 4:00 pm, the Intake Writer informed me that the Durango repair was not complete because the ac compressor was not cycling and, of course, the Durango needed a new ac. As I would not have agreed to the very expensive replacement of both the low pressure line and replacement of the ac THAT DAY; and I likely would have completed the repairs myself, now 90 minutes past the expected repair completion, understandably I felt both angry, misled, and, frankly, cheated to have an +$800.00 bill without a completed, correct repair . . . some 90 minutes after the job was to be completed. So, I found myself in an argument over labor costs with the mechanic, who was patronizing, demeaning, exceptionally rude, and argumentative and with the assistant manager over the misleading charges . . . considering initially, I had asked for the estimate of the ac replacement in the first instance at 9:20 am. Besides threatening and actually calling Tucson Police, who refused to respond, it took nearly 50 minutes to reach a minor accomodation for failing to both provide the requested estimate and failing to timely repair my ac problem. When my vehicle was returned after paying +$500.00 for the FAILED REPAIR, I found my undercarriage shield was improperly reinstalled causing my front right tire to collide with the buckled undercarriage shield; my right side doors had been been "keyed" and damaged; and attaching bolts for battery tray not properly installed among issues. Oh yes, the more expensive repair, the high pressure line, was actually removed and replaced . . . yes, unexpectedly costing more money than estimated. I requested a callback from Pep Boys" store manager, Karly Kinner, via the assistant manager and the Pep Boys call center. I have yet to receive any response now 7 days (one week) later. Karly verbally responded well to my concerns, though the situation concerning vehicle repair not changed. I am repairing the undercarriage shield that Pep Boys improperly reinstalled. I had a broken lug nut on one of my wheels and called for an appointment and estimate. She couldn't give me an estimate but took the appointment. When I got there they told me it would be $457 and a two hour wait so I left. Brake masters fixed it for just under a hundred dollars and less than 30 minutes. He said " you need a new Engine", A month later I called, a girl manager answered, and remembered by 92 Caprice wagon. Months went by, and several other shops. I finally got the repair done right. The worst mechanic in town. Brought my truck in for a standard oil change with no other issues with my vehicle. When I came to pick it up I was told that a light had turned on when they backed it out. They claimed it was a bad alternator even though it was replaced a month ago. I decided to go to a different mechanic and turns out during the pep boys "Inspection" they barely put my car back together. I have 1 1992 Caprice wagon, car running poorly, March 2025. Spark plugs and wire. Still not running well, brought it back the next week. I was told "you need a new engine". I had the Caprice in several shops, and then the car would not start, August 2025. The Distributor was made lose, and the timing off, Break Masters, Pantano. The Pep Boys did the Spark plugs and wires. They connect to the Distributor cap. I do not need a new engine. During the repair at the Pep Boys, smoking nearly during the whole repair makes me wonder how well the repair went. Yet, well the distributor cap was made loose, and that was the problem. This location was a life saver!!! after having a terrible time at the other speedway location with the manager calling me slurs and threatening to fight me, the staff at this location were BEYOND helpful. I had come in for an oil change and had to wait over 40 mins at the other location. I called this location and they were able to get me in within less than 10 mins. the moment I pulled into this location I was greeted with a friendly smile and immediately taken care of. after explaining what happened at the other location the staff here were extremely helpful, gave me customer services number and a supervisors contact info to file my complaint with him as well. oil change was completed in a timely manner, staff was very friendly and helpful, and the front desk clerk even offered to drive to get the oil filter I needed. they definitely went above and beyond with their service and I'm very happy with their work read more

I found out today that the tires I had purchased 6 months ago were old. They are 5 years old. Shelf life of a tire is 6 years. I went into the Pep Boys at 4491 E Speedway, where I purchased the tires, to speak with them about this. The purchase price for 4 tires was $963.00 which was not cheap. First thing that happened is I was greeted in the service department by a Pep Boys employee who merely said "Yo". Seriously I am a 63 year old woman and not your homie. I let that greeting go, but we were not off to a very professional start. I explained that I had learned my tires were old and I was concerned. I was immediately met with "those tires are fine, I love my wife and would be comfortable with those tires on her car". Needless to say I got no where. I asked to speak to a manager and was told "He does not speak with customers, so I cannot talk to him". What kind of company is this?? So unprofessional and uncaring. They made no effort to address my questions, all they offered was excuses. I will NEVER do business with Pep Boys again. I do not feel like I can trust them, after selling me a product that they claimed was new, but in reality was old. Really disappointing. Without the same mgmt or techs as two years ago... it's lost its sense of camaraderie and customer fidelity. It all starts with upfront communication, candor, and that's one of the things missing now. As such, service and maintenance is now ... impersonal, albeit still less expensive than the dealerships. Perhaps it's the closure of the "store" that has also contributed to it (they do not sell any items except batteries. No filters, oils, waxes, brushes, mats, accessories... the entire retail part of the store is GONE, as of March 2020, and so are those employees. read more

Can't say enough about how quick and responsive the staff here was. We are traveling from California and our CRV was registering low tire pressure all day. Jerry quickly helped us and Calvin checked our car tires.. Within about 30-40 minutes we were out and done. DO NOT TRUST VEHICLE INSPECTIONS HERE! I was thinking of purchasing a car from a private party in Tucson and looked for a shop that offered car inspection before purchase. This Pep Boys offered a 120 point inspection by a "master mechanic" (or so I was told on the phone). The car had a salvage title and I was concerned that they carefully check the repair done after the accident. They assured me they could and would do that in the inspection. I live in Sierra Vista so couldn't take it to my mechanic. I was told the inspection would take two hours, which gave me confidence that the inspection would be thorough. I was surprised when they called 45 minutes later and said car was ready for pick up. The report only showed that there was light rust on the battery bracket and the terminals "could be cleaned". There was also a note that brake fluid and coolant was "cloudy" and should be changed sometime in the future. When I asked about the accident repair I was told that everything was "put back properly". Their report gave me no negotiation leverage in purchase. If I knew then what I know now I probably would not have bought the car. After my local mechanic inspected the car (which I bought) he found these issues that needed repair/replacement: Cracked Serpentine belt, worn inner and outer tie rods, worn control arm making noise and needing replacement, missing exhaust hanger and misaligned exhaust pipe repair, front fender liner all torn up. The misaligned accident repair is evident by twisted brackets and reformed frame members which clearly show bent areas. Frame parts should have been replaced but clearly the repair was done by a "chop shop". At this point I have spent approximately $1,600 in doing these repair, the catalytic converter that they put in during accident repair is cheap and pings or echos. I haven't established trust with the vehicle because of the substandard repairs of accident damage and I cannot afford to have the damaged frame parts replaced. I contacted the store as soon as I discovered all the issues at the beginning of October. The first staff I spoke to offered to return the inspection fee and a free oil change. I then spoke with the manager and he said he could only authorize a refund on the fee but would speak with the district manager about what more could be offered. I sent him hard copies of receipts and estimates as requested. I have since called the manager Robert Cicala 2 or 3 times. He said he has never gotten a response from the district manager. I now will be contacting corporate and am prepared to file a claim with Small Claims Court. read more

I had a friends car towed here with the promise they he would he taken care of. The first mistake was that the tow company dropped it at this location rather than Oracle. We are on day five and the car hasn't even been looked at other than the obvious issue of the broken electrical harness. I have asked to speak with the service department manager multiple times, even going in to the shop where he was off for the weekend. That's fine, everyone deserves time off, however after five days sitting in the shop my friend doesn't even have an estimate or an actionable plan to fix the vehicle. I asked if they had found the part and they stated, "we will have to do research." Um, okay. I'm literally pushing the car across the street to Gibbs Auto Service and have already spoken to their service department who knows how car repairs, lead times and part ordering goes. Imagine that. Never, ever come here. Go to oracle. The team there is sharp, quick and will take great care of you. read more

Absolutely the worst experience of my life, I was charged literally twice as much as any other mechanic in town (my fault for not checking) and lied to about a coupon/overall pricing. After spending over $1000 and being without my jeep for a full week... replacing the struts wasn't the issue! Taking the vehicle to another mechanic immediately verified it was an issue with the lower control arm and ball joint - he recommended reporting Pep Boys to the BBB, which I will be doing as he quickly determined there was absolutely no reason to spend over $1000 on working struts, when the issue could have been resolved for less than $200 in total repairs. This all occurred due to Pep Boys on Speedway doing a suspension "inspection," and then incorrectly diagnosing the struts needed to be replaced. Do yourself a favor, and go literally any where else in town! read more

LANCE PARADISE is a major CREEP btw 1st thing he did was give my daughter his card and told her he's available 24/7 " just call" them he told her he is a dad and takes care of his girls. They check out her car and quote her 509+$ for an alternator? She had not experienced anything remotely linked to an alternator, no question it was fule or spark. She told LANCE PARADISE she'd have to come back after payday. LANCE then went over to the mechanic and said" I told her, hey sweetie just ask Daddy to pay for it" we went to another shop Breath of fresh air auto repair and guess what it was the fule pump! I am writing this review based on two separate interactions I've had when trying to get quotes for auto repair. In the first situation, I needed a tail light replaced. I was quoted $90 dollars for parts and labor. They explained that my car had a more complicated light bulb assembly than most cars, hence the higher than usual cost. I called the Pep Boys on Oracle and they quoted me $30 for parts and labor, explaining that the lightbulb costs $15 and labor would be about $15. Wow!!! What a difference, naturally I went to Oracle. In the 2nd situation, one of my car's windows got stuck down and I needed somebody to raise the window up for the night, until I could bring the car back for a proper assessment. They quoted me $200 to do this, without repairing anything. I took it to another shop and they were kind enough to lift the window up for free, so I could bring it back for repair on the weekend. The overall repair for my window cost $200 at the other shop. This is what I would have paid to have them just lift it up and repair nothing at this Pep Boys. In my experience, this location is one of the costlier Pep Boy's in town. I have on two separate experiences received unreasonable quotes for repair here. I am actually amazed that this happened twice. Either someone doesn't know what they're doing, or I just look very gullible when I walk into a mechanic's shop. Either way, if you are looking into this shop for repairs, get more estimates and compare! read more

My wife brought my car here to get the 'check engine's and 'trac off' lights looked at - ended up telling us that we needed to replace a part in the air intake, totalling over $900 worth of parts and labor. We had them do the work, but 2 days later the lights were back on. Apparently this store only has one mechanic that can look at this issue and he doesn't work weekends, so rescheduling a time that works for me and the store has been a nightmare. Finally was able to bring my car in for a follow up and after leaving my car there for over 8 hours, I was told I would have to bring it back because the mechanic needs to call Toyota because he cant figure out what's wrong. I was finally able to bring my car in last Friday, but the mechanic was out (I scheduled the appointment online, so this was on me) but was specifically told the mechanic would be in Monday (Memorial Day), so after getting up early on a holiday to bring my car in, I was again told that he was not there. At this point, I'm just done with this place - even with the work still under warranty, I'm just going to take my car somewhere else. It shouldn't be this difficult to get a problem corrected - especially when the shop that performed the original work didn't do it right in the first place. read more
