After having a really good oil change here and enjoying my experience, I went back to them when I had AC problems and paid three grand to have it fixed and was assured that everything would be fine and two months in it is broken again and they told me it would be $450 for one hose that wasn't part of the AC kit. If you're going to assure someone that their car will be fixed, you should replace all of the hoses in correlation with that. I most likely will not be back to this location specifically. read more

I had my truck repaired replaced intake manifold due to coolant leak. total cost $2900. after 7 days in the shop I got my truck back drove it up to my cabin in summerhavan and the heater would not work blowing cold air. heater worked prior to the replacement of the intake manifold.next day I went to the garage to complain about the heater not working and received the statement of you do not need a heater in tucson . the service advisor went out to the truck to take a look and told me that maybe rust plugged up the heater core. that I should flush out the heater core myself because the hoses feel crusty. They would not fix my heater problem. the heater hoses come out of the intake manifold . heater worked just fine before they worked on the truck. you would think for $3000 my heater would work as it did prior to the work performed. very unhappy with amount of money paid and service received . think twice before having work done on your vehicle. these people are not the same owners and service is not the same read more

The only auto repair shop that would work on my 1996 Toyota Corolla. Did all the repairs that I asked them to do. Had a courtesy van available to get me back home while they worked on it. Had to leave the car there to order new parts and continue working on it next day. One of the best automotive services I've ever patronized. The service manager explained everything that was needed, options and costs. They honored a coupon I received when I purchased a car battery through AAA Battery service months ago. That service was also excellent. I look forward to taking my vehicle there again for any future service. They established confidence and trust on the very first visit. I've been taking my 2006 Honda Accord to the dealer for all these years, and since they lost a bunch of their staff, thought I'd give Borst a try. My husband used them last year to fix his A/C after waiting 3 months during the hottest part of summer for Toyota to get a part needed for the repair. Borst had a part made, and got it done for less than the dealer. They did my oil change, and recommended several other services that were due based on my car's age. I selected a few of them, and when I picked up my car, it looked almost new! They really impressed me with their customer service, communication and "finishing touches". Very disappointed in my last experience with this company. I have taken my vehicle in before and thought I had gotten good service but now feel I was most likely ripped off right from the start. Took my vehicle in for a diagnostic and was charged $120 - told the repair would cost another $550 - could not afford that so I scheduled a new appointment beginning of the month. Turns out my issue was completely resolved. The blower motor on my truck was not fried and the relay as well working perfectly. Most likely a bad connection that was corrected when they took it apart and put it back together. An honest shop would have known that, and I would have gladly paid the labor to have it working again. When I canceled the appointment today, my concerns were completely dismissed. He couldn't wait to get me off the phone. Would never trust this place again and would never recommend anyone taking their vehicle there. read more

I was sold a car battery for my Prius just shy of 2-1/2 years ago @ $290 with no warranty that I know of. It just died. I was towed to another shop. They replaced it with an Interstate AGM, glass pad battery which has a 3 year total replacement, not prorated. The issue here is on a Prius the battery should gave a glass pad. Borst Sold me the wrong battery which shortened its life. read more

Two weeks ago I booked online, drove an hour and was told I did not have an appointment. Went home and called to book another appointment. Chose 9 a.m. and then got a confirmation email for 9:30. I decided to just accept it, don't have time to call again, etc. Showed up early for appointment today and was told it would be 2 1/2 to 3 hours because there were many cars dropped off ahead of me. I reiterated I had a 9:30 appointment and was told that only meant I would get service sometime today. Was offered a shuttle - can't think of anything I'd like more than to spend 2 hours of my day riding back and forth in a shuttle. When I expressed displeasure the manager advised that even if I wanted only an oil change they check the whole vehicle and that takes at least 1 1/2 hours. Last time I got service here they advised that I needed some kind of additive to clean the injectors. Later discovered I could buy it for 3/4 the price they charged and add it myself - paid $30 in labor for them to dump it into my gas tank. I'll take responsibility for that - could have refused the additional service. I'm beginning to see that the checking the whole vehicle is the opportunity for them to drum up extra business. Today was the last straw. I'll not be back - ever. read more

Update: I was picked up by their shuttle once my service was completed. Another employee explained that the man who'd originally made my appointment was in training and apologized for what happened. They ended up comping my service after going through the results and inspection with me. While the initial experience was disappointing, I am impressed with their efforts to make it better. Original: All I needed was an oil change and I had a coupon I'd received from them in the mail. I came in on a Monday and was told I needed an appointment, the soonest of which was available on Thursday. Understandable. I brought up my concern that I was only able to drop the car before they opened, and they said that was fine. I could leave my key in the overnight drop box and they'd get to work on it since they already knew I had an appointment and would be dropping it off. They said it would be done around 1 pm. 1 pm rolls around and I call to check on the status. It turns out they had never bothered to start on the simple oil change because they didn't have my email and home address?? So now I have to wait an additional hour and a half for them just to an oil change after I'd already set an appointment and they said they "knew why the car was there." If they can't perform an oil change without my email and home address, why couldn't they have just gotten that information when I made the appointment in the first place? Or, worst case scenario, why couldn't they have simply called me to get that information and gone on with the oil change so that it wouldn't have been delayed an extra 2 hours? Who cares if you go through all these extra steps to make sure my car is "cared for" when all I wanted was an oil change and not to be delayed for hours unnecessarily? read more

I used to use this shop when I lived on the north side of Tucson, but hadn't gone back since I moved to Vail. I went back when my old truck had failed emissions because the Check Engine light wouldn't come on before starting. Borst is listed as one of the shops that participated in the repair program offered by the State of Arizona. So I decided to go back to them. I first went to the shop, describing what the problem was. They checked the truck, and found the light was, indeed, lit. Of course, they charged me nothing for it. So I go back to the emissions place, and what happens? The light doesn't come back on. Back to Borst I go. After a couple of hours diagnosis, they determined the connector to the instrument cluster was faulty. Since they had to sub it out to a speedometer shop, they were going to keep it overnight, and I was worried about not having a car. No problem, though! They have several loaners, and I was able to take one of them home for the night. I came back the next afternoon, and my truck was ready. However, they cautioned me that I wouldn't pass emissions unless the truck sat overnight after running normally for awhile. They offered to test the truck for free before I brought it to emissions again. The next day, I passed no problem. I say all of this to say: Borst didn't just fix the truck, but they took care of me. While it seems like I spend a fair amount of money when I go there, I know the amount they charge is reasonable, and they even follow up with calls or texts to ensure your satisfaction is complete. Since I wasn't "there" who knows? But I would recommend to anyone leaving your car overnight/weekend to check the odometer reading before and after service. Somehow my car managed to put on an extra 50plus miles over the weekend stay here. It said it was driven exactly 4 miles on the ticket. Manager was all befuddled and stumbled for words. He was going to get to the bottom of this! I said, it's going to be YOUR story and you will stick to it. OH NO, getting to the bottom of this today! No response in two weeks. My car broke down while I was driving and I had it towed here since it was the closest location. I believe Mark was the one who ended up taking charge on my vehicle - ultimately, we ended up scrapping my car sadly because the damage was too severe and we felt it was too old already to be worth fixing. But I am grateful for Mark and everyone at Borst doing everything they could to fix my car and give me all possible options throughout the entire process and keeping me updated on its progress frequently. Having my car break down and then having to get rid of it has been a very exhausting, sad, and frustrating experience throughout but I'm grateful that everyone at Borst was so friendly and helpful the entire time, and it felt like they genuinely wanted to help me get the best possible deal I could so I was very grateful for that. Not the best with estimates and prices. I don't get a sense they r honest too and would rather rip people off. My family paid a lot of money to repair our Jetta, only to have it break again within weeks. They said it was an unrelated problem but why didn't they find this issue before? They promised the issue was solved after the first repair but it never was and they continue to deny it. Surprised this horrible place is still in business. This is most definitely NOT the most affordable shop in town, but they're honest, they do good work, and the staff and facility are pleasant to be around. I really appreciate that Borst offers a shuttle both to and from wherever you need to be when you bring your car in. I brought my previous car to Borst many times for different repairs and always had a good experience. They would frequently provide me with a printout of my inspection complete with pictures. Now, they have a fancy digital inspection report for you, but it costs extra, and I'm not sure there is any option to waive that. My Corolla had grease leaking behind the front tire so I took it into Borst after not being in for a few years. They updated the waiting area/office space, and they do offer free coffee and snacks. My service advisor, Andrew, was nice and got me checked in. In addition to the grease leaking, I asked them to check my suspension. For the diagnostics and report, it was more than $170 with tax. That was just to look at the car. Diagnostic fees should be waived if you complete a repair in the shop, or at least if the repair is over a certain amount! I ended up needing my axle shaft replaced. So I went ahead with that. In addition, the report showed a number of recommendations based on my car's mileage and age, like a transmission fluid flush, spark plugs, fuel induction service, brake fluid, and coolant. I'm not going to have any of those services done here given what they charge, and many I can accomplish on my own. I felt like they're just trying to get more money out of me there. My total bill was over $750. They do have some coupons on their website, so I would recommend taking advantage of those. Repairpal.com estimates my job to be $278-352, so this was definitely more expensive than other shops in the area would have charged. There were also some minor "goofs" that warrant some attention to detail. For example, my report stated the passenger side axle needed replacement, but it was actually the driver's side. Andrew also stapled someone else's paperwork to mine. Minor things, but a bit sloppy. I may return for a specific job if I know what the issue is, but I won't return for any maintenance items or ever ask for a full diagnostic test, because the fees are too high. read more

I would recommend Borst for simple repair while you wait. I had a good experience the first time. My second time around was different. After the car was towed 10am, they let it sit for half a day even after being informed of the owner contact, the license plate, etc. The lied about why, they let it sit. Most likely because they could get away with it since I was at work. My problem was with the air conditioning system for my 2007 Honda Accord. They allegedly spent four hours diagnosing it and advisor was going to charge $300+. They wrote evaluations in vague terms leaving lots of room to charge as they see fit. I felt like they cheated me and charge $1,100 dollars of $2,100 estimate that could go up to $3,400. Service advisor was a smooth talker that in my opinion is dishonest with malice. I say this because he was not in it for me, but in it for the dollar. Example is they showed me my CLOGGED cabin filter and instead of charging me 15 bucks for the part, they simply put the dirty filter back in. He did this because I refused to allow them to continue to work on AC. read more

We had a client go here and her car left in worse condition than when it came in. They offered to replaced and rotate 1 tire to account for the rest of the funds we had provided the client. After the terrible experience to top things off I get a call asking me what happen. After explaining the whole ordeal this guy says he'll call me back in a few days. He never called me or left a message as he states he did on the reply that was written. Instead I get two coupons for a free oil change. Booked an oil change appointment using AAA coupon online almost a week ago with instructions I would be waiting for my vehicle. (There was an option stating you could make this request) Two hours before on day of appointment, I received a call they couldn't accommodate me waiting for the car but said I could drop off and pick up in three hours. (A basic oil change doesn't take three hours) Told them I would be waiting and arranged my schedule to do so, it meant nothing and fell on deaf ears. Then guy questioned the validity of my online line appointment I made which I received confirmation twice through an email acknowledgment. No common courtesy to let me know well in advance they can only accommodate having the car dropped off. You need to work around their schedule they won't work with yours, there's other service options available than working with one that only wants it their way. read more

My 98 Izuzu would not pass emissions. I took it to another mechanic who could not fix it. Said it needed a part they don't make anymore. After calling several junk yards trying to locate the part I had no luck. This mechanic not charge me either. After talking with someone within the emissions building they stated that the state would give us $900.00 to try and fix it at a recommended garage. Borst (Golf Links) was the closest. I dropped it off there and the manager was awesome. I have no clue how/where he found the used part but he did. Someone from Borst also took the car for testing and Suzy the Izuzu passed. Also, they got the 900.00 from the state, I did not have pay and and wait for reimbursement. I was thrilled. The manager asked about some other problems I was experiencing and gave me an estimate on repairs. Of course, I went with them. The car is running awesome now!!! I want to take a second to recommend Borst Automotive. I went in with a list of things that I wanted to have done to my 1996 Ford Explorer. They gave me a reasonable estimate. Lori the Service writer took care to explain each item on the list, and why the costs were what they were. I went in after that... not having gotten started on my list of work yet, for an oil change. The oil change came with a 60 point inspection. I came to learn that a couple of the things I wanted to have done (I had believed a previous mechanic) did not need to be done, and my car is in better shape than I anticipated. I really wanted to like this shop, but they keep letting me down. Borst has not completed the work in a timely fashion per their estimates---I expect when a shop says its only a few hours of work and ask me to show up at 7:30am, say they'll be done by 5pm, they complete the job in the same day and don't force me to find alternate modes of transportation. Borst has used parts that have not been OE per their promise to me, they have used inferior parts and then charge a 600% markup on the parts which they justify as their "warranty". Although they "warranty" their work for 2 years, you'll pay for this one way or another. The cost per hour for labor is higher than other shops, but per guides like Mitchell, they are doing the work in less time then some shops might typically spend so this is a plus. I would recommend you get written estimates for both labor *and* parts before you choose to use this shop. I don't think there is a "perfect" shop out there, but their prices have been on-par with my dealer estimates and my dealer has always delivered in the time they quoted (although they quote longer, I at least know what to expect) and they have not wasted my time nor used questionable parts. All in all, I don't feel like I got ripped off, I just feel like they didn't provide the service I expected. read more

Who takes 5 and a half hours to do an oil change? These guys! I called and scheduled an appointment for 8 am on a Thursday morning. The work wasn't completed until 1:30 that afternoon. Really? How hard is it to change someones oil? Especially after I asked Jason on the phone initially how long it would take and he said only an hour and a half. Timely? Not so much. Ruining my whole day? Yes it did. I went to these guys after getting the $19 Groupon deal for an oil change and 30-point inspection. Got the oil change (supposedly), but when I walked in to get my keys and receipt and go, no one talked to me about any inspection, just handed me my keys like they wanted me out of the way. And then when I tried to leave, I was blocked in, so I had to go back inside and ask that the car blocking my way out be moved. Also, the cars that are done being serviced end up parked at the very front of the shop in a haphazard and illegal way. I'm sure these are stand up guys, but I honestly did not have a very good experience here. read more

I originally wanted a tune up and of course by battery and alternator crap out right before I take it in. So an expensive trip later I'm back on the road. I was more than happy with the service, they threw in a couple of extra services and I left with some items that they recommend I get fixed, which I did appreciate. They completely looked at every inch of my car and told me what should really be done now and what I can wait on. AND they were fast. Being without your car for any period of time sucks but these guys were very quick and I haven't found any spare parts sitting on the engine. Wonderful job!! read more

My truck blew a lower radiator hose and Borst is really close to my house so I had it towed there. They called me that afternoon and let me know I also needed a water pump and quoted me over $1000.00 for the pump, two hoses, thermostat and cooling system flush. I'm not made of money so I called the mechanic I normally use. I gave him the list of work to be done and he called me back a few minutes later with an estimate about half that of Borst. Needless to say, I had my truck towed to the other mechanic and saved a bundle. The staff was very friendly and efficient. With the number of cars that are always there I would guess that they do good work also, I just can't afford them. read more

I called ahead this time to confirm they still had my appointment and it was there. I showed up 10 mins early and they were waiting for me. This was an oil change and a 30 point inspections, I should have asked ahead, so keep in mind this takes about 1:20 to be done. The waiting room is great, cold A/C, free water, coffee, cappuccino, soda, popcorn and cookies. Once they finished, the inspection did not comeback with any crazy finds and the whole check-in / check-out process was smooth. I think they recovered from the first fumble. read more

I have grown to trust Borst to find the problems and get them fixed. I have returned with problems but they found they were still under warranty so they fixed them for free. I first started using Borst for emission test fixes since my car is over 20 years old and I was always failing emissions testing. They would also provide a detailed list of what else they recommended or found that may need fixing. I have often used them for these repairs but their hourly costs are more then some shops so I get brakes and tires elsewhere. With a 20 year old plus truck I often have issues but I can trust Borst to identify and fix them. Yes, they may be a little more expensive but overall you get what you pay for. I highly recommend Borst especially if you have an issue that just seems to never get fixed correctly. They have a wonderful staff and have even helped me out in a pinch when I needed the repair but was a little short on the bill. How many companies now a days trust their customers like that! read more
