I have a 2005 Lexus RX330 and I of course went back to my dealership for my brakes. Well after they finished their evaluation rear breakpads, cleaning my calipers my approximated bill was $650 +. So I went to Pep boys and the Mgr. said I should purchase the pads from Lexus but they can install them and they would also give me a complimentary inspection of my car. I still needed rear brake pads, my right rotor had to be cut, they cleaned my rear claiper. Well, my cost dratically dropped to $150.00. I love my Lexus but paying the extra labor cost doesn't fit my pocket anymore. I arrived at 8:30am on Sunday(12/2/12) and they opened up on time 9am sharp. I went to the store in Union, NJ to replace a tire that is under warranty. The gentleman behind the counter told me it'll be at least 45 minutes to bring in your car to replace the tire after checking in the computer that they were going to be able to do it. One and a half to two hours later the gentleman tells me he doesn't have the tire. What a terrible way to do business. Luckily the car is going to be replaced soon and I don't have to deal with Pep Boys anymore. read more

I had my car repaired at this location. First I was told I needed a water pump. After that was fixed, I was told I needed a serpentine belt. After the serpentine belt was replaced, I was then told that I needed a crank pulley. Almost $800 later, I picked up my car. There was some shaking which was one of the reasons that I initially brought the car in for service. In addition, the car was filthy inside from oil (the steering wheel cover, car mat, and the door). I called and spoke with the manager. After the conversation that I had with him, I'm still wondering how he obtained his position as a manager. He did not apologize not one time. All he did was point fingers at his employees. As a manager, you should apologize and do what you can to resolve the matter. I dropped my car off again today. They call me to tell me that they have to do diagnostics and its going to cost $90!!! Why should I have to pay for diagnostics when my car was just there and still having the same problem?!! They already took $800 from me and gave me back my car unfixed. I don't know what type of business these people are running. This place sucks!!! I will never get my car serviced here again , and I will make sure all my friends and family stay away from this place. They are a bunch of rip-offs. In the process of fixing one thing, they break something else. They have a bunch of idiots working there. I'm no mechanic but I think I can do a better job. He also asked if I still needed any work done on the car and I did still need tires. Just left earlier today with a new set of tires. Excellent service from Branco the manager on duty today. I been to Pep Boys one other time and they are really good with getting work done quickly, but that's about all I can say is good. They overprice almost everything and I'm someone who won't know much about cars and how much something to be fixed generally cost. I went in for an oil change, but my dad was with me and he asked how much would it cost to replace the belts on my car, as they were worn out. The guy said $400. My dad was like Whatt why does it cost so much? The guy said for labor and service. I just got the oil change but will be taking my car elsewhere because I could get my belts replaced for about $150. Crazy amount. I'd only go there for like a simple oil change and that's it. read more

Unless you want to get yelled at by a manager in your face don't go there. I was waiting in line ok no problem. The guy in front of me was making a delivery of parts so they did they did it right at the register the only one open. Ok 10 minutes waiting for them to finish the delivery driver leaves and a "manager" comes up with a customer with anti freeze in his hand and cuts me off. Not only have I been patient I asked the manager why did that man get to cut in front of me. He start screaming in my face how dare you that was my customer he got a bottle of antifreeze get real buddy it's not that serious the could have waited like I did in line. No customer service the "manager" tells me to screw off. Horrible never going there again. Made an appointment to install a set of 4 new tires I had shipped to their store from Tire Rack. I arrived 30min before my appointment. James who was the service counter attendant immediately mentions that they are packed and perhaps I would consider coming back tomorrow or the wait would be long. I said that tomorrow wouldn't work for me and would be willing to wait since I had a friend nearby I could visit. While he was getting my info he pointed at a stack of tire he thought were mine and I asked him to please do 3 things for me. 1.) I pointed at the stack of tire he thought were mine and requested he mention to the person working on mounting my tires to please make sure to align the red dots I was showing him on the tires to the valve stems when mounting the tires to the wheels. 2.) I didn't want to use weights on the outside lip of wheels and to please use the stick-on weights inside the wheels. 3.) put the passenger front tire in the trunk as I was keeping that one. I left to a friends house and arrange for him to call me when I should return. I had to call them for an update since it was approaching 30 min before closing. James mentions the tire installer didn't line up the dots on all the tires because my tires didn't have red dots and only had yellow dots. I had to explain to him the dots on new tires are there for a reason and they should know it would be okay to line up the yellow dots. He started to explain he forgot to mention and it didn't matter and clearly not making any sense I had to stop him and explain why red and/or yellow dots are put by the tire manufacture. He then said it was too late at this point. I told him to let's move on and I'll live with that as long as they used a road force tire balancer. When I got there I found out he didn't know what a road force balancer was. I had to ask if my tire was put in my trunk and he thank me for reminding him. All of the tire dots were no where near the valves and now very disappointed with my experience and lack of knowledge. I took my phone and searched "tire red and yellow dots" and asked him to please pass that to the people who should know this for future customers. read more

Incompetent and lazy. I had 4 new tires installed today. As I was leaving the location A Pep Boys employee told me I had a bad lug nut. They were sending me off with 4 lugs holding my wheel. They said it was safe and replace soon .What better place to have a bad lug nut than a repair shop !! My mistake. Never again Pep Boys. I will call consumer complaints tomorrow ! read more

Brought my car in for ac. Told to fix a leak it would be 300. Then told the compressor was shot. Went up to 800. Sat the first day for three hours until they told me that it wouldn't be ready until the next day. Had brought the car in at noon and they didn't even order the part until the supplier was shut. Still sitting (another three hours) and keep getting told it'll be done soon. Or within ten minutes...for the last 2 hours. If you can go anywhere else, do so! I've been to this Pep Boys several times but I felt the need to write a review today because of the exceptional service I received today. I have been having problems with the lights on my car for a while now and I stopped by today and spoke with the store manager Yuli in order to figure out if I needed to replace the whole light or just needed to clean it. Yuli took the time out to actually listen to what my problem was and was VERY helpful in offering suggestions. Other employees in the store, Lionel and Charles, were also VERY helpful in assisting me too. I was very impressed and will make it a habit to always go back to this location whenever I need to service my car/need car parts!!! read more

I must be honest. I'd written a review previously about my distaste with the service I received at this location. However, once again, an employee by the name of Eon has restored my faith and trust with this company! Recently I came in to purchase new pad for my sisters truck and was again assisted by this parts expert. Of course hehave outstanding service ( nothing less than what I know of him) but on this day I must say, he once again excelled in the field of EXCELLENT customer service! Allow me explain. I recently underwent surgery which had left me at a disadvantage when it comes to standing for what would be, under normal circumstances, an average amount of time. Being as observant as only one who truly tends the needs of his customersTom the initiative to accommodate my unfortunate circumstance and provide me with seating in both the parts and cashiers area! To note, this is not normally available to customers in those areas. Again, let the years I've been a patron of this particular location, this young man had Hey to be surpassed in the field of customer service excellence! He just raised the bat on the rest of the parts specialists nation wide! And I deal with a LOT of different people in different areas! All others, take notes and step ya game up! read more

In and out for a quick oil change. Basic work, fair prices and competent front desk workers. It is outside of this stores control, however the online booking tool doesn't always sync with the store system causing over books and delay. You are better off calling and scheduling your appointment. I only go for oil changes as I am in and out, however I do see and hear other customers getting tires/minor work done. read more

NEVER GO HERE,SIMPLE OIL CHANGE TURNED INTO AN $800+ PROBLEM; if you go in for an oil change and they see that there is an issue with your oil pan they will tamper with it and then tell you it's broken when they are legally not allowed to do so. They gave me an estimate of 800+ for their mistake. Even with my own bought parts they still wanted to charge me. Apparently I was the second one this happened to that day. Avoid this place like the plague, I went elsewhere and still played cheaper FOR THEIR MISTAKE. Tried calling the union police department and they told me they could send an officer over and IT WAS IN MY FAVOR via small claims court, thing is I start summer classes may29, they lucked out, so please if you value your car take it some where better. The free inspection is to tell you that you NEED new parts and that you are in danger if you do not do so (checked the car over myself and took it to a shop before hand it was just maintenance I could of done later on down the road) also; if you want to report them go right to the cops corporate will just make you email an automated bot and they refuse to answer the phone.... read more

Don't go to this Pep Boys - they are very unethical. Last week, I took two cars in for an oil change + tire rotation on different days. Both times, tire rotation were not performed even though they told me they did. After the store manager found out about my situation via a survey, he told me to bring the cars back in so they can rotate and balance my wheels. I took my car in today and waited for an hour, I was told the work were performed. Guess what? They lied to me AGAIN, I discovered my tires were never rotated!! The question is whether they actually did my oil change?? Probably not. Each time I was there, they always try to sell me something that I don't need. Last week when I took my car in, I was told I had a nail in one of my tires, but everything else is good. In order to have the tire repaired, it would cost me $xx. I didn't believe them so I took it to my dealer who pulled the nail out, no repair was needed. If I didn't know any better, I would of spend $xx to have the nail pulled out. Today I took the same car in for the tire rotation + balance (even though they didn't do the work) and they told me I needed brake work, the estimate was $453. Last week, my brakes were okay but today I needed to get them done asap?? Why didn't they tell me about the brake problem last week? My brakes are fine, even if I need to do brake work, it will not be this Pep Boys. I have lost my trust in this store and I am very disappointed. read more

Not cool. Before I gave my car to my daughter to use when she turned 17, I thought let's just check them- The brakes worked fine-no noise, no issues...but as a father, just wanted to make sure as it had been a while. "METAL ON METAL-ALL THE ROTORS ARE SHOT" ok, well I can see thru the window into the facility and clearly only one tire was removed- and if the brakes really were shot, I'd have heard it. There is little mystery to metal on metal brakes. So I asked for the estimate, and it was over $1,000 after telling them I will only have the car for another 14 months as I will be selling it when the kid goes to college so don't go nuts. The estimate used the most expensive everything-including pads. I went to Springfield Nissan the next morning - rotors were fine -done for under $650 (yes, same full brake job, all four). I sold the car three weeks ago with 18,000 miles on the "shot rotors". They are lazy and don't give a crap about your money or what you ask for. read more

Went to this place for a wheel alignment and a wheel balancing. Worst experience ever. There was no other customer infront of me but i was waiting to get some help there for a good 10 mins standing infront of the desk with 3 people infront of me acting like they were doing something. One was walking back and forth, One was trying to find something under the desk and one was on the fone. The guy on the fone left after he finished talking to someone. He told me he wil be back. This guys name is Bronko? Big white guy. The other guy was dark skinned who was walking around. Other guy was Lucio? finally asked the dark skinned guy to help me. So after almost 2 hours of wait, Finally my car was done.... One spanish guy told me that my wheels were bent and never gave me a suggestion if i need it fixed asap or how big it was. He just walked away. Then this Bronko guy gave me my receipt and told me to go to the counter and pay. WOW VERY NICE CUSTOMER SERVICE YOU GOT THERE PEP BOYS!!!!!!!!!! If this customer experience happened in my company, These guys would have been fired already. Very bad customer service. This workers are LAZY!!!! This is why PEP BOYS is going down... Good Service, Bad Service. I've had many instances of both at the Pep Boys of Union NJ. This time it's BAD. I asked for a simple patching of a slow-leaking tire. I left my car at the center awaiting confirmation from the sales rep.Only 20 minutes later, I get a call saying that a technician will fix my tire, but recommended changing that tire--along with 3 others for consistency. Quoted me a $707 figure for all four. I replied no, because I had just finished paying two college tuitions and a private school tuition and would rather wait until I really needed to replace ALL FOUR tires. Okay. Technician stated job should be done in a couple of hours. Nearly two hours later, I return to discover NOTHING had been done. They hand me my keys, telling me to replace all four tires. Bait and Switch?! BAD SERVICE!!! Why wasn't I called to say they wouldn't provide the service? I even asked for a callback from the manager for a detailed explanation--and no call has come. i purchased an item and had to return it to pep boys. the cashier said that she did not have the cash to give me and could she put it back onto my credit card. unknowing at the time that it would take seven business days to get my money i agreed. this is outrageous and "unsuspecting customers" are getting it in the back with this policy. i need my money back immediately. when i paid for the item pep boys did not have to wait seven days to get paid. never use a credit card at this store and never agree for them to return the money back onto your credit card, unless you can afford to wait seven business days. read more

Wish I had read the reviews of this place before my brother took his truck in for a clutch job. My brother's truck was running just fine; just wanted some fine tuning on the clutch. Before he got home, a plume of smoke was following him. The clutch got stuck all the way down and he could not change gears unless the engine was off. He called the store and they sent a tow truck because my brothers truck was un-driveable. This was on Saturday, March 26, 2016. My brother picked up his truck on Monday and drove it home. On Tuesday, he had to go to Linden and he got there okay. When he was ready to leave, he couldn't drive his truck. He started it and smoke was coming out of the back again. Could not put the truck in to any gear. Called this company again and they sent another tow truck to tow him back to this particular Pep Boy's. Oh yes, the "master mechanic" was the one who allegedly worked on his truck. Maybe if you just want an oil change, or put on new tires, or fix a flat, or replace the windshield washer fluid or the windshield wipers, perhaps the mechanics can handle that. But, whatever you do, do not take your vehicle here for any mechanical work. They have ruined my brother's truck. Just SMH. I'll post again if they can ever fix it. They need to send my brother's truck to a Nissan dealer to have it properly repaired if they can even undo the damage this particular Pep Boys has done to my brother's truck. read more
