I have been going to pep boys since 2008 when my warranty expired with the dealership and I must say that I have been happy with the services here thus far. I think Analicia played a big part of me continuing to patronize this establishment. Everytime I come here, she is always friendly and regardless of how hotheaded some may get, to me she has always been even-tempered. There was one incident recently where I had to take my car in several times within the week after I had some tires replaced and I wasn't too happy about the inconvenience of this either. I reported that after the tires were replaced, I noticed that my car was heavily pulling to the left while on the freeway, so I called them up and they told me to bring in so that they can switch the tires to opposite side and balance them again. Ok cool...well the next day while on the freeway it started pulling to the right..called them again and told to come so they can switch tires again and balance...next day, pulling to left again...totally not cool since I spent $200 for two freakin tires...so I called them up and told them I was coming in....Yes I was heated but how could I get upset with Analicia who seems like she's always working but I told her and the mgr said that the tires were warped... they replaced both tires and balanced them and after that next day no complaints since. I have paid out some money to this company but that's the price of having a car and trying to maintain it and, the problems I've had, has never been the same problem and I have been blessed thus far with a decent reliable vehicle because I try to maintain it (knock on wood)...so I will continue to use this establishment until then. read more

Pros: Chris is friendly and helpful. Quotes i was given were accurate, reasonable, and honored when it came time to pay. Cons: wait times are outrageous. they DO NOT honor appointments. you basically have to chase them down to get any kind of update. story time. I brought my car in about 3 weeks ago because the check engine light was on. I made a same day appointment (which the site advertised as being totally acceptable) for 1pm. Got there and waited in line for probably a half an hour even though there were only 2 or 3 of us there as the guys at the counter kept disappearing. Finally got up there and was told that they were incredibly busy and they didn't have a technician to run the diagnostic test. When i told them i made an appointment, he said that they "don't do" same day appointments, but they would fit me in. It would take anywhere from 1 hour to 6. 6 hours. Whatever. Gave them my keys, hung out and waited. 3 and a half hours later, i get up and start trying to find someone to tell me whats goin on with the car. lo and behold, they've been done with it for a while. they just didnt tell me. He then explained that the part that needed to be replaced, they had to order from the dealer and would call in the next day or two after ordering the part and give me a quote. no call, no call, no call, i call them, still hasnt been ordered, no quote. week and a half after the original appointment, they call with a quote, awesome, can i come in? oh no, we didn't order the part yet. we'll call you when the part comes in. part finally comes in maybe another week later. the guy i spoke with on the phone told me it was a quick fix and that i would be totally fine coming in after work one day. Decided to make an appointment for a monday, but when i go in, i'm told that they don't have any technicians to work on it today but they could bump my appointment to the next day and someone would be there. The next day, i drop my car off at around 530 (my appointment was at 6), and was told that it would probably take a while. yeah i expected that. again, whatever, give em the keys and hang out. note that the store technically closes at 8pm. so youd think that i wouldve been out of there at 8 right? ah yes but that would be far too easy. at 8 i went to the counter and asked what was up (i was able to see that my car was still sitting in the parking lot waiting to be brought to the work bay). chris (bless his heart) apologized, promised that it would be out that night, and asked me to sit tight. I watched them bring my car in from the parking lot at 8:40. i was out of there by 9:10. it took less than a half hour. Honestly why even have an appointment system if you don't use it? read more

I've been here twice, both within the past year, and vow to never come back again. The first time I came in here was to have a stripped lug nut removed which cost me $65. I came in a few weeks later for an alignment (two wheel) and it was going to cost me $70. By the way, their slogan is 'pep boys does everything for less'. Yeah well, Les Schwab only wants $55 for a 2 wheel alignment. Anyways, I probably waited 20 minutes for someone to help me behind the counter. There was only 1 person working the front station even though there was another dude up there the entire time. Whatever. I told them I wanted an alignment and then I proceeded to wait two hours. They finally called me up and I think I'm getting to pay because the service is done. Nope. They told me they can't do the alignment because I have broken tie rods. But they quoted me $470 to replace both tie rods and do the alignment. At that time I had no clue what a tie rod was but I thought that price was ridiculously absurd. I said no thanks, I went home, researched the tie rod, found out it is relatively simple, and replaced everything for $70. I am so appalled out how slow the service here is and how over priced they are. I will never ever bring my car or any business here and I recommend you don't either. read more

I set up an appointment for these guys to diagnose my stereo problems. Upon getting to the store, there was a line for me to wait in even though I had an appointment. And although there was only 3 people in front of me, the wait was 20 mins. After speaking with the sales guy, he left and came back with someone from the shop. I've never gone to Pepboys for any service before, but I needed an oil change and they seemed like the easiest bet. Was a bit disappointed on how poorly staffed the service desk was inside the store. Poor Chris was stuck doing all the work by himself, answering phones and helping people in line. There was pretty much always a line of 3-4 people waiting. But despite the wait, he was very easy to work with. I had made an appointment, so that might have made the process easier. The whole check in process took about 30 minutes, between waiting in line and getting my information entered into their system. And the oil change took around a little less than 2 hours, which isn't too bad for how busy they were. And there was very little pressure at the end of the process for further service. I was politely reminded of the things I needed to do, most of which I already knew, and was informed of what Pepboys could offer but I was never pressured to make a decision right then and there. I'll definitely be considering them for future oil changes, and possibly other minor work. read more

I just need to give a big shout out to Eric in service at the Vallejo Pep Boys . I have had a few services done here on a few family vehicles, and Eric has helped me every single time. He was very honest about when brakes needed to be done, when tires needed to be replaced as well as other parts that needed maintenance. I have spent a lot of time at shops and dealerships feeling like information was purposely being thrown at me that I didn't understand as a means to overwhelm me & get some sales, and eventually I felt screwed & played by those companies & individuals.... However here at this Pep Boys whenever I dealt with Eric I never felt that. I felt he was being honest about the worth of the vehicles vs services rendered, and considerate of my preferences & pocketbook. And even more importantly I always felt he was being honest & sincere in regards to the safety of the vehicle & the people that would be in it. He offered deals when applicable, and never once felt pushy. For a woman coming into what is deemed a man's world, that is so invaluable to be treated with care & sincerity. This Pep Boys gets 5 stars just because they have him there!! read more

If I could give no stars I would. Took my car in to get the rotors resurfaced on Saturday. Dropped my car off. It's Monday now and still no call. I called once and Chris answered the phone, I asked if he had any information on my car and he said "hood on one sec" and put me on hold.... never to be heard from him again. So, I called again. Chris answered and again I asked if he had any information on my car... he said "no" and put me on hold... or maybe hung up on me I'm not sure... but I waited on the line for 10 more minutes, then I called back again and I said " do you have any information on my car? He then proceeded to say "I'm like one phone call away from walking out of here" and put me on hold again. So, now I'm just going to go down there and get my car. This is the worst customer service experience ever! It's my CAR not a game boy. Obviously Chris needs some help up in there. He is stressed out and a huge Corp like pepboys should probably take care of their employees and that they can take care of their customers. Not good. read more

I only interacted with one sales person here, and he was dumb. I called ahead and asked if they could do the repair need on my car, I told him the make and model of my car and the issue. He said "yeah, we can do it." I even called back to confirm and told him that I would be getting towed in, he said "didn't you call before, yeah, we can do it." So, I arrived at Pepboys with my car, spoke with the same man gave him my keys, began paperwork and he said that they would be able to call me within the hour and let you know something. About an hour later he calls me and says, "actually, we don't even work on those cars, I'm really sorry." WTF? Seriously dude? So I had to go and get my car and get it towed elsewhere. The guy was nice about everything but that doesn't make up for being dumb! (Side note: He was not a new employee). Worst car service experience I ever had. I would say no stars at all if YELP would allow a no-star review. I took in my car because the Service Engine light is on. I decided on PepBoys because I see their commercial on TV all the time plus I want to try that online appointment. So I went online and scheduled an appointment for noon today. I entered all my information online and got confirmation for my appointment. I took the car there at 11:45, stood behind the counter, was never even acknowledged by the woman at the counter. What a way to make a first good impression, right? Finally a gentleman came over and attended to me but this must be his first day on the job, you can tell he wasn't exactly sure how to work the computer. He asked me all the information again. What the heck? What is the point of putting all that information online if I have to supply the same information again at the store? Anyways, he was polite and apologetic and he did explain to me the different options if I were to get my tires replaced. That was nice of him. After struggling through the computer, he finally got my car checked in. Two hours later, after inquiring about status of my car, all they were able to do was change oil. The Service Engine light on hasn't even been through the diagnostics to determine the cause. I was told it will be another hour. I explained I have to get back to work. I do not have time to do that now. The manager recommended at least have the license light replaced. And he assured me it will take no more than ten minutes. Half an hour later, they still have not replaced the bulbs. By this time I showed a little bit of impatience and so the manager rang me and I paid my bill and told me I can get the car outside. By the time I went outside, one of their mechanics was still working on the bulb and had to go back to the store to get the correct bulbs. This was 40 minutes later after I was assured replacing those bulbs would take no more than 10 minutes. I told the mechanic forget it. I was so late for work. So I paid for a service that wasn't even done. you think they'd credit me for it. Tough luck. Greedy inefficient bastards would probably keep the money. And no amount of money is worth the hassle of dealing with these imbeciles ever again! Awful service.! JUST AWFUL. read more

The whole experience was a nightmare to say the least. My car broke down on the side of the road and since I lived over an hour away, I thought going to Pep Boys would be a good idea since they are a chain. BIG MISTAKE. They said I needed a new ignition coil and since I hadn't had any major maintenance done in a while I thought to go ahead and let them take care of that too. So they replaced my timing belt, water pump, hoses, spark plugs, two tires, etc. Not even a week later, my car over heated when I got to work (may or may not have been coincidental). I took it to a Pep Boys in Sacramento on Northgate Blvd (which I also strongly do not recommend) and they replaced my radiator. However, I had to go back in to see why my check engine light was still on as they did not give me any feedback besides that I had a hairline crack in my radiator. The very next day, my car died again (luckily I was at home) and I had to have it towed a 3rd time within a week and this time I took it to Honda and had it inspected. Come to find out, my spark plugs were installed incorrectly. On top of that, upon inspection, Honda found a leak beneath my timing belt that, if not addressed sooner rather than later, would cause my NEW timing belt to break. This was not brought to my attention by Pep Boys at all. Because I do not trust their shoddy work, I am having the oil leak fixed by Honda and paying AGAIN for the labor. I also had a valve plug missing, broken cover seal, and my front mount's grommets were installed UPSIDE DOWN! I would not recommend any Pep Boys locations to anyone unless they want to get ripped off. read more

Had my Tahoe towed their late at night after being stranded. First thing in the morning, I contacted their Service Rep, Eric, who was absolutely incredible! Eric provided me hourly updates on the diagnosis and then the repair. He said they would really try to get the fuel pump installed before closing. He actually called me and said his shift was over but he was handing the repair off to one of his associates and they would be calling me once the repair was complete. Supper frustrating place. We made a 2 o'clock appointment our car wasn't seen until 5 o'clock. With no explanation besides there are other cars ahead (as they're taking walk in appointments right in front of us) we just waited. 5:05 they were done with the diagnosis. To make matters more frustrating we saw a girl come in at 5, with out an appointment, got serviced and was out of the building by 5:35. The people who work here are nice people but it wasn't right to take walk in appointment if you have people who are waiting for hours. Four hours later, with only an hour of time spent on our car, we were able to go home. We saw the Yelp reviews but need our car for the work week. We had no other choice on a Sunday. Long story short, we are glad they figured out the problem and got it fixed but we are not happy with the service and the time management of this team. Had a good experience here last week. Destroyed my tire and rim on a nasty pothole in Oakland late Sunday night, made an appointment online for first thing Monday morning. I was seen immediately and quickly given the estimate on a new tire and wheel (to be ordered from the dealer). I was called promptly when the wheel came in and dropped the car off over lunch the next day for the installation. The car was ready before I was and all was done at a very reasonable price. I explain I have an appt and we breeze through the paperwork and he says it will be about n hour (Sweet! Warriors tip at 7:30). I walk around Costco and return at 7:10 (because I haven't gotten a call yet) only to see "Chris" disappear. I look out the window and see him get into my vehicle and pull it into an empty bay so the oil change can begin. I follow him outside to tell him it's too late because I already have plans (Warriors game of course) and he back my car right out. Rips the plastic off the seat, pulls the paper off the floor and slams it in the garbage can. No "sorry we got backed up" or "I apologize". Nothing but attitude. The worst bought a wheel alignment year plan with them and replaced tires the first time. they never rotated the wheels like they said they would I had to ask again and sat in my car and keys with put telling me it was done. He says you know you cutting it close with these late times like i was really inconvenienceing him with when I wanted it done and it's my fault they don't have a opening when they told me the wrong thing. so I made my appointment and left called to complain and give them a chance before reviewing and they failed at that. Got a manager he asks what the problem was I get half way through and he says can you hold for a second I wait for like 5 minutes and he comes back and says let me transfer you to this manager he's better for this issue . So I say ok and get transferred the person who picks up I tell my issue or start to before he cuts me off and says would you like to speak to a manager I'm just a employee . What the actual fuck a manager transfered me to a employee affter making me wait who had nothing to do with helping me . My first experience with this service shop was HORRIBLE. I asked this shop to change my car battery and was told by the advisor that I had to wait for 2 hours (just to change the battery?) He was wrong because I had to wait 4 long hours. They have 12 service bays but they had only a few technicians to accomodate those innocent customers (including me) not thinking that they are in a WRONG place for the service. The only good thing is the advisor was not rude although he was constantly bothered by complaining customers. I'm very very sure that this is my FIRST and LAST time that I will be there! read more

NEVER GOING BACK TO PEP BOYS. I had scheduled an appointment for 12pm for a simple brakes and rotors job for JUST a drivers side, came in with my car about 1145 so i knew it would probably be an hour or two, around 1:30pm I came in and asked what was the estimated time, they said 45 minutes because All mechanics were on break, I dont see why they cant alternate on breaks to be more efficient. So i waited until about 2:30 when I noticed nothing was being done and people were standing around on there phones, after 4 hours ive had enough so i stepped out and watched them from a distance and literally watched my car sit on a lift for 30 minutes, i finally go inside and wait in line for another 30 minutes for Chris to help 1 customer, i had my wife tell the mechanics not to touch my car and Antonelle was STILL on his phone rather then working. Took them 4 hours to do 1 inspection basically, not even touch my brakes or rotors. This place literally has no sense of urgency and should really think about either training people or just get rid of the weak links. I GUESS BIG BRAND TIRE HAS A NEW CUSTOMER. read more

I brought my Monte Carlo in because the Check enjine light was on and the car was running a little rough. They had my car for 2 hrs and 99 dollars later they told me I had a blown head gasket. I quote "vehicle runs with a misfire in cylinder 5 found cylinder 5 is leaking coolant into cylinder. Sparkplug had green residue upon removal. Upper and lower radiator hoses are oil soaked from inside. requires removing cylinder heads for further inspection" Guess what. My car is a 2003 Monte Carlo and I HAVE TO USE PINK COOLANT! I brought the car to my mechanic and he checked the car and moved the spark plug to another wire. Replaced a heater core plug and she runs fine. They are a rip off. I will never go back and highly recommend Brooks Automotive on Springs road. He is honest. read more

Visited Pep Boys Vallejo store last Friday to schedule an AC service and was given an 8am appointment Monday, Labor Day. Fantastic... so far. Came Monday, I arrived on time, when my turn came (more than 30 minutes after arrival) a SO CALLED SERVICE MANAGER, MARC WOODRING, took information about my appointment & told me that he does not have people to work on my car. I asked him why Pep Boys did not call me to cancel this appointment so i could have gone somewhere else. Marc Woodring yelled and told me he is just human. I'm new in Vallejo and has been going to Pep Boys in another major city for over 20 years; I was perplexed at the way Marc Woodring treated me with so much disrespect. I also noticed how bad he treated the people (minorities: Asian, Blacks & Hispanics) before me. I told him that as the service manager he is responsible to make sure that people will be available to work on scheduled service appointments. He said this is not his job and continued to be extremely mean; He did not offer any apology ... After this incident, he went into the service area to smoke. Marc Woodring, service manager, was rude, crude to people and MEAN....not sure how Pep Boys would hire this type of person as their SERVICE manager???? This made me remember my previous experience with the same store (Vallejo Plaza Dr.) the other week. I came to have an oil change. I was patiently waiting for over 3 hours... finally asked the desk when will they start service on my car...and was told my car was finished one hour ago. Nobody bothered to explain to me how long I have to wait and nobody told me when the service was completed. I went here because of the name alone. I expected an honest trustworthy opinion through a diagnostic of my car. They told me they would have to do a valve adjustment just to see what was wrong with it, price($1300) i told them i didnt have that kind of $ so they said ok we will put your car back together give us like another 1 1/2 hours to do that. but our car was sitting in the back the whole time. all they did was ran the code and quoted a rediculous price. took it to 2 other places for a 2nd and 3rd opinion. all said it was the catylitic converter. got it done for 300 bucks. thanks for wasting my time pepyburglers. never go here they just want to rob you read more

My son took his pt cruiser in for a oil change and to get the battery checked, because he had problems with it starting. He asked them to check and see if he needed a new battery. They told him no the battery was fine and all he needed was to clean the terminals and so they did that. The very next day he had a dead battery in S.F. and we had to go get him a new battery at 9pm. when we called they said there was nothing they could do and that he could bring the car in for them to look at it. They wouldn't even reimburse him the money he spent to have them check it in the first place. How is he suppose to bring it in with a dead battery, will never go there again. read more

I had suspicions I was being over charged for parts because I brought in a coupon for 50% off of labor to install shocks. Got home logged on to the Pep Boys website and priced the exact same parts with the exact same SKU numbers for $112.48 less. I was over charged. I was unlucky enough to have my alternator start to go out on Saturday evening. Thinking I was screwed and would need to rent a car to get to work on Monday, I decided to Call Pep Boys Vallejo to see if there was any chance they could help me as they're one of the only shops open on Sundays. I booked an appointment for the following day, thinking there was still no way the problem could get resolved in just a few hours on a Sunday. What followed the next day was the absolute BEST experience I've EVER had at an auto repair shop. I was greeted by Chris M as soon as I walked in and he promptly got me checked in. To my amazement they had my alternator, my belt, and a belt tensioner fixed and me rolling out of the parking lot in under 2 hours. I couldn't f'n believe it. This place is so much better then it was a few years ago. Thank you Pep Boys Vallejo, and especially thank you Chris M for the outstanding service. During our recent heat wave my wife`s auto air conditioner went out. Took the car to Pep Boys after seeing their $49.00 offer to diagnose a broken AC. When i returned to pick up the car they generously offered to fix it for a mere $1700 based on the diagnosis of a bad compressor. After I declined their offer to rip me off they tried to charge me $157.00 for the diagnosis due to "extra technician time" they claimed the mechanic had to expend to diagnose despite never calling me for any authorization. This I also declined to pay. Maybe they thought I was desparate due to the heat wave and would jump at having someone fix my car under extreme conditions. Long story short, took the car to my regular mechanic at Scott's automotive in Benicia who troubleshot and replaced the AC compressor for $490.00. There is an honest mechanic I would recommend! The slimebag crooks at PepBoys however will not see any business from me again, for car parts or service. These clowns are dishonest opportunists and I would advise you to go ANYWHERE else before allowing them to touch your car. read more
