To be honest I was rerouted here from Express Oil & Tire Engineers when their one tire engineer was not available. Luckily this Pep Boys was nearby. Located on a busy section next to Milos on Montgomery Hwy in Vestavia, this Pep Boys has about 5 automobile bays. On this late afternoon, they had their own troubles apparently because the AC in their lobby/office was broken. I noticed this right away when I walked into the office. With the office doors propped open and despite the heat, employee Beth greeted me with a smile. We walked out to my vehicle in the parking lot where she examined the flat tire. Took my keys and said she would let me know when it's done. Luckily on this day it just rained and was actually cooler outside than the non-AC office so I sat on the edge of the sidewalk outside. About 45 minutes later I got a text and I could see my vehicle returned to a parking spot that my car was ready. Landon the mechanic who patched my tire was very nice. He even gave me a crash course on the technique he used to patched my tire. Nice people, great job and only $25! read more

So we were going out of town for the weekend and my mom wanted new tires. They said it wouldn't take long so we left the car, time was going by. 2 hours turned into 5 and people who were getting tires that dropped off their car the same time was done before her as well. Our car tires were there and the other person wasn't so it took forever. They didn't even call us to let us know what was going on with the car and we had to call so that was very unacceptable. If they would have at least kept us updated, we would have been ok but to not say anything we were very upset. My boyfriend and I were visitors here on Saturday, April 17th 2021. I can't express how amazing the service was from Jennifer and Ray. I was honestly floored as my expectations were not as high as I wished they should have been due to the poorer reviews-- not discounting reviews. We had already had a terrible previous night and day, and I just was so concerned, like "what else could go wrong?" type of day. However, Jennifer and Ray both greeted me kindly, and really made our experience exceptional. I genuinely know that they did everything they could to make our day better and our experience enjoyable. Towing to Pepboy's was not expensive for us, and as soon as our car arrived they made sure that they made sure we were listened to and gave us all possible options and offered numerous amounts of helpful advise and help. ***update They changed the wrong tire, even after they filled out which tire needed to be replaced. Not sure why they put a perfectly good tire in my trunk and left the spare on the side that needed to replaced. This meant I drove on my spare causing it to shred and flatten. They were honest about what happened when I called but I was annoyed cause I waited 2 hours for the wrong tire and lost most of today trying to correct their mistake. read more

Had AC compressor replaced. After I got home and studied the detailed receipt, I saw they added $115 for an optional extended warranty. I went back and he said he always adds that because he assumes everybody wants it. They credited me for it. They also added a mystery shop fee. The AC still was not cooling adequately so I took it back. They said it was fine and he insulted me by suggesting I did not have enough sense to push the AC button. After I insisted, they admitted the compressor was defective and replaced it. After I got the car back this time, my check engine light and TRAC warning light were on. I was not about to let them mess with my car again so I went elsewhere to get fixed whatever they had done. Both times when they replaced the compressor, they left black marks on the driver's door threshold and interior door panel. read more

I chose Pep Boys because I needed two new tires for my car and I did not want to get into the holiday traffic by the Galleria. Initially, I had planned to purchase two specific tires that my husband had researched. I was told by their representative, that their system would not let them put those tires on my car but they were willing to upgrade for the same price. I felt like this was a nice gesture. At that time, I was also promised that my car would be ready in two hours. My husband and I decided to do some shopping and go to lunch. Two hours later, we drove by the shop and saw my car on the rack so we assumed it would be ready soon. We ran a couple more errands and returned an hour and a half later and unfortunately saw my car still untouched on the rack. I went to see if there was a problem and the representative apologized over and over. He also ended calling in one of the people from the back and told him that if he was going to continue to "fool around" that he could go work somewhere else. Afterwards, the representative in the front apologized again and offered to give us another discount. Because the man that we had spoken to at first about the tires we had originally selected was not there, we ended up paying full price for the tires. So horrible service and no discount. DO NOT TAKE YOUR CAR HERE!!! The oil filter fell off of my car after they changed the oil and they are refusing to replace or warranty my engine due to lack of oil damage. They are running oil through it and saying there are no shavings that they can see. There is no way to know the damage that was done without opening up the engine. There's a good chance I have engine damage that will show up later. To say I am livid is putting it lightly. I have taken very good care of my vehicle for their negligence to devalue my vehicle and put me at risk for engine damage in the future is unacceptable. read more

Great service, great people!! I was on I-65 when a spark plug shot out of my cylinder and took the threads with it. I got a recommendation from my insurance company for this Pep Boys. And they did great!! I was from out of town and had to get back on the road. The wonderful gentlemen worked with me to make this happen. The mechanic who work on my car, Noel Lowe, was very professional and did a great job on my car. And the gentlemen in sales were also very professional and kind during my crisis. Why do I continue to avoid learning how to change my own oil? I ask myself this quietly every time I pay someone else to do it at an auto shop. After leaving Pep Boys last week, I screamed this question to myself (internally of course). Pep Boys makes it difficult to believe that bigger/franchised auto service companies can compete with local mom and pops on customer service, quality, and price. I was under the impression that my oil change would cost me $35, as indicated by the sign and confirmed by the office employee. I actually skipped another oil change franchise because its price was $44. Upon picking my car up the next day (because the office employee's 2 hour time estimate was over an hour off), I was given a bill for $49. No phone call to inform me of this, no mention of it when I initially agreed to the service. I was supposed to already know that the $35 price was for 5 liters of oil only, and my car took 7. No communication of that little detail. Also, their 25-point inspection garnered no information for me about anything else. I asked the office employee to look into what could be rattling under my hood on the driver's side. Not a mention of it. My car has 206,000 miles on it and the 25-point inspection garnered nothing? Some big companies are successful at instilling customer service values down the line to all of their employees (Publix, Chik-fil-A, etc). Pep Boys is not one of them. How could I be confident in their model on more complicated (and expensive) types of work on my vehicle if they can't accomplish an oil change without unspoken charges? I do owe them a thank you for kicking me in the pants to learn how to change my own oil. One thing is certain, though: it will be the last lesson I learn from Pep Boys. read more

This location put on a new set of tires and struts, and did an alignment. Later that afternoon I started hearing a clanging noise. I also noticed that the car was pulling hard to the left. I took the car back and was given no explanation for the noise, and was told they had corrected the alignment. On the way home, I noticed that the car was still pulling hard to the left. Fast forward two weeks, and all of my ABS lights are on, which has never happened. I took the car back a third time and was told I needed a new sensor which would be $600. This could be a coincidence, but is hard for me to believe after all of the issues I've already had. Also, when you get "road hazard", be prepared to wait hours and deal with rude treatment when you do need a tire replaced or patched. I have called and gone in person to four different Pep Boys locations and was treated like a last priority by all of them because there was no additional money it for them. read more

Went in @ 7am to put on 2 tires+front brake pads. Was first in line, they installed in an average amount of time... Knocked off stars for: -let me know service was done by wordlessly handing me my key and walking off without even looking at me. -one of my old tires was flat. this blows my mind that there wasnt even an eyeball over the vehicle after the work was done. I wasnt expecting a hug and a kiss, but If I'm paying for the labor of a chain store garage i expect competent attention to detail and customer service. Check out local places first. read more

They not only talked with us before actual opening time, but they tracked down the unusual tire we needed at another location which one of the guys brought over on his way into work. I am very very disappointed in the service I received!!! I went in to get tires installed and a front end alignment, I get my car and it is shaking and pulling to the right, I informed Stan as soon as I drove off in it he scheduled me to come back in on Sun 3/28. Get there Sunday at 10 only to be told by Jennifer no appt was made, now if I'm telling you my car is worse than when I dropped it off that should have been a priority!!! So she schedule me an appt to come in Mon 3/30 at 7am. I get there and she nor any workers are there. I left at 730 due to me having to go to work. I call at 940am and speak with Jennifer who informs me that she was there @720. Now I have a photo at 730 of the office being pitch black, so I ask why was I told to be there at 7 and no one I mean no one was there and she lies to me about her being there. So, I'm royally pissed that this happened and I've inconvenienced myself three times and still nothing has been done!! This is Highly Unprofessional and I will not come back nor recommend anyone go there!!! read more

Blatant disregard for customer wishes. I recently got new tires installed and I asked Mike to put my old tires in the trunk. They were practically brand new and I had already arranged to sell them for $200 on Craigslist. The installation took all day despite me having an appointment for 10 am. When they called me to tell me my car was ready, I had to wait nearly 30 mins to pay because Mike was nowhere to be found. I needed to be somewhere soon after getting my car so I forgot to check to ensure that my old tires were in the trunk. Soon after, I realized that they had made a mistake and called them asking about my old tires. Mike, again, answered the phone and immediately told me the tires had been scrapped. (This was less than 30 mins after I left.) Also they inflated my tires to 42 psi (they're supposed to be on 32). Overall terrible customer experience. Just because Amazon has a deal with Pepboys to have tires shipped to the shop, does NOT mean you should take your car here! read more

If I could give this place less than 1 star I would. I will keep this brief. I went to Pep Boys because of the special they had on tires. I regret that decision now. They sold me tires that were not made for my car an they were the wrong size. The tires started making a loud roaring noise that became worse over time. I took my car to them multiple times to be checked only to be told nothing was wrong. I decided to get a second opinion because I knew something was wrong or my tires wouldn't sound like an 18 wheeler. I had to buy new tires from somewhere else. I complained and no one has even bothered to respond to the complaint. Pep Boys mechanics are not competent and the sales people are not trustworthy.
