I found myself at this store yesterday, not by choice. I got a flat tire in small town Hewitt on my drive from Dallas to Austin. After Walmart auto and tire declined to sell me a new tire and service me because they do not work on Volkswagen, I desperately ended up here. I had a phenomenal experience here. From the moment I arrived, I was kindly greeted before I even parked my car. I walk inside and was immediately comforted after a brief conversation with a guy named Rick. I told him I need to buy a tire and that my tire was un-repairable based on what Walmart told me. Instead of just taking my money upfront and selling me the tire, he asked if we can walk over to my car and take a look at the tire to make sure it was in fact not able to be repaired. Once he confirmed the condition of my tire, he helped me find the right tire to buy. He was completely understanding of my situation and handled everything with such urgency. I was on my way with a new tire in about 30-45 min. Customer service rating for this place is 5 star, A+. read more

THEY CRASHED MY CAR. I wish I could give zero stars. I went in with a small cut in my tire and asked if they could patch or replace my tire. They told me while they were pulling the car in to the garage, they hit a pillar. They also said they couldn't patch my tire because the cute was too big (it's two centimeters long and I got it patched today by a different auto shop) or replace my tire because they didn't have any of the type of tire I needed (I looked it up afterwards and it's the most standard, basic tire). We sent our college daughter to get her own oil change today as we are out of state and she's trying to do things on her own, and they completely took advantage of her. She went for an oil change, then told her she needed a new air filter which she was willing to get. An hour and a half later she says I need to leave I have class, where is my air filter?? They said they're waiting for the part to come. They never told her she would have to sit there and wait for the air filter. So 2 1/2 hours later, they put the dirty air filter back so she could leave. Absolutely ridiculous and unbelievable. Do not go to this Pep Boys in Waco. read more

Brought my car here because it always has problems. I am a 20 year old female, and I explained what was going on with my car. They said they would do an engine diagnostic and find out what was wrong. I asked what would happen if it said nothing was wrong, because I'd been to several car repair places in the past few weeks seeking answers for my super old car. The employee at the desk and the manager were both rude to me and laughed at me for asking this question. I felt like I was not taken seriously at all and did not feel comfortable with this interaction. The man who called me to tell me what was going on with my car was kind, and I enjoyed interacting with him. We went with an engine tune up. I left the store after it was done with my car, and when I drove it next, the low coolant light came on. Two days later, my engine overheated. Pep Boys let me leave the lot with no coolant. My car is now broken and unusable because they let me drive off of the lot with no coolant. I will be without car for an undetermined amount of time. This place has caused the biggest inconvenience I've faced in a while. I STRONGLY DO NOT recommend taking your car here. read more

So my daughter who is 17 was traveling from Irvine TX , her car broke down in 2 Waco amd was towed to this Pep Boys , she was stuck in the side of the rd so she called the police to help , the fire department came to assist her , one of the fireman is a mechanic amd he looked at the car and said it was the belt for the alternator that need it to be replaced that's all. Well when she got to Pep Boys they saw a young female teen so they ended up up selling her . So an easy fix turned out to be almost $600 ! Shame on you guys !! I didn't hear anything until 3:45 when I decided to call them and check the progress. The guy on the phone said it was done and that he texted me (he didn't). When I arrived to pick it up I checked to make sure they actually balanced and rotated my tires and they only balanced them. I went back inside and asked if they were supposed to rotate them and they couldn't remember if they did or not and said they would check the cameras. Luckily I marked my tires before I brought my car in and knew for a fact they hadn't. After letting them know that my tires were marked they brought it right back in and rotated them. It was amazing how fast it got done when they knew they were caught in a lie. If you are going to get any work done there make sure you have your whole day open to wit around or at least don't need your car that day. Also, make sure to mark your tires and the previous balancing weights. You'll never know if they did what they were supposed to do if you don't. It's be nice if you could trust them to do the job honestly but maybe because I have free rotations and balancing since I bought my tires there it's not important. read more

Was supposed to have a tire delivered and it was postponed twice after the initial scheduled date. They will also make you cry if you complain through phone call. I went to this pep boys after experiencing a shaky wheel when braking. I was told i needed new brake pads and new rotors and that it was going to be $750 which is absolutely overpriced to begin with. As a 21 year old woman I wanted to make sure I wasn't being taken advantage of so I went to another repair shop in the area and they said my brake pads were basically brand new and that it was absurd to replace them, in addition they said there was enough metal in my rotors to have them rotated and it ended up costing me $83 total and my car is now running beautifully. Absolutely cannot believe that I was about to be over charged $667 for stuff I didn't even need. I feel very taken advantage of and do not recommend this location to anyone, especially if you are a young woman like me. read more

We went in to Pep Boys off of valley mills in Waco just about 45-60 minutes before closing. Unfortunately, we had a screw in our tire and it was REALLY messed up. It couldn't hold any pressure at all... as in, we had filled up the air at a quick trip 3 miles up the road and our tire was flat by the time we made it to Pep Boys. When we got there, we talked to Shawn, the store manager. Upon first speaking with him, he told us that they were completely booked, and we could tell they were understaffed on top of everything. But when we let him know our situation - we were more than an hour from home, the tire issue was completely random, and all of the other tire shops were closed - Shawn made a way and got us taken care of. We'd checked multiple places and we really had no other options, we would have been stranded if he hadn't been able to help. We got super lucky and they had a tire in stock, and he was able to get it switched out for us even though it technically put them past closing. I am very pregnant, we'd had our vehicle for less than a month, and my husband was VERY stressed. Shawn really didn't have to do anything, he had no obligation, but we are extremely grateful that he did. I booked a vehicle for repair two tyres that had nails in them. After being given the run around for 5 hours and being treated with extreme discourtesy, which in itself was unacceptable, I was advised that I needed to purchase 2 new tyres, as neither tyre was allegedly capable of repair. Despite being a woman, I have extensive knowledge of motor vehicles and took the vehicle elsewhere to confirm my suspicions... Even if this was correct, after the worst customer service I had ever received, I certainly would not have purchased the tyres from them. My suspicions were confirmed, but even worse - only the one tyre required a simple patch, which was done in 30 min. The second tyre did not require any repair at all, as the nail did not actually penetrate. So either Pep Boys did not even bother inspecting the vehicle after making me wait for 5 hours and/or they made a material misrepresentation knowing it was not true, in an attempt to cheat me. After this I would not trust them to take care of a roach, let alone a vehicle. read more

Went there to get a slow leak fixed. The leak was in the center tread and just needed to get plugged, fairly new michelin tire with only about 20k miles on it. Guy behind desk says they dont fix tires and wanted to sell me a new one. I told him it just needed fixing and he wouldn't even look at it. I've bought a lot of things from other Pep Boy's stores and never knew that SOME stores won't (or don't) fix tires. Why buy a tire from a store that won't fix it if it goes flat? read more

We came in for 2 front tires. We waited over an hour. The front salesman came out to my vehicle looked at all 4 tires. Write down (what we thought the correct size). The mechanic in the shop had 2 speeds SLOW AND SLOWER. I dont know why they put the wrong size on my vehicle. We drive away not knowing. It through off the computer in my vehicle. Brought it back the salesman at front desk came out said they were correct size, but they had too much air. My vehicle lost power and wanted to shut down. Took vehicle to the dealer asked what could be wrong. They said take it back to pep boys and have them put the right size on the front. We will never go back there again. Scam alert!!! Had my car towed here because my clutch went out, they said it'd cost $90 for a diagnostic and then they could go from there. I told them specifically my clutch was out and that I knew the clutch was the problem. They looked at it, confirmed it was the clutch, and then told me they don't work on clutches!!! When I said the issue was with my clutch they should have told me up front that they don't handle that instead of charging me $90 to tell me what I already knew!!!! I felt so taken advantage of at this place. We do not live in Waco but we needed an oil change and this location was convenient. We also wanted a tire rotation done and we had a check engine light on and they checked it for free. They told me the check engine light was for some sort of leak that they couldn't find (turns out after I went to a mechanic that it was nothing of the sort). They then asked if I wanted a tire balance for $16, so I agreed. After several hours, yes I said hours, they finally finished. Turns out, it was $16 PER TIRE. This is not what they told me, but they would not adjust the price. They also kept trying to upsell more and more things. The mechanic(s), staff lied about my car issue, it was a simple fix, not hundreds of dollars! Still charged me a fee to lie to me about the diagnosis of my car. They're completely dishonest. After reading the reviews of others here, I think I may go back in and demand the refund for their diagnostics fee or whatever it's called, since they just lied about the truth anyway, how would anyone else but them know? Ridiculous! Their prices are also comparatively FAR higher than dealerships, individually owned places, Wal-Mart, even Sears & literally every other so-called competitor in the city/region that I'm aware of. Time for a complete overhaul of their scheme, it's truly disgusting business behavior! If I could give this place negative stars, I would have no qualms about doing so, & it would be justified, & I would not feel bad about it, being a public service I think people should be aware if their dishonest business practices. This place is a disaster. Trash piled up.Counter was cluttered. Not asthetically pleasing. Needs to be cleaned. Opened at 7.30am ,techs not scheduled til 8am . They leaned on counter drinking coffee. All of the reviews for this location are old. I drove up on a Saturday morning with a boat that needed a starter (has a 350 engine) and Joseph, the manager told me that he would get it done and he kept his word. I was very impressed, he has been with Pep Boys for a while now but pretty new to this location and to the managers job. This guy is very professional, he's young, but knows what he's doing. Everyone that got vehicles worked on that day I was there seemed to be pleased as well. My boat ran good, I went straight to the lake after leaving Pep Boys. This was my first visit to Pep Boy's, but I think maybe having a new manager may be what this location needed based on the reviews I read. read more

This place was a nightmare. I dropped my car off at 9am for : 1. An oil change 2. A steering and suspension diagnostic 3. To check my airbag because the light came on. 4. To change my transmission fluid 5. To resocket a light fixture that had come loose 6. Pump up my tires I didn't hear back from them until 4pm at which time they told me they do not do airbag or transmission work. Upon picking up my car I noticed that they also did not fix the light fixture or pump up my tires. So all they did was change my oil and fix my back turn signal which took 7 HOURS. After the diagnostic they told me I needed to change my lower control arms and gave me an estimate over $1,000. I called a local shop called "Fred" something that told me they would only charge $400. Pep boys also charges around 80-90 dollars for mere diagnostic work, so your out 80-90 dollars before they even do anything, which Fred's does not charge. This place is a rip off and a joke. The staff is lazy and blatantly try to rip you off. This is the type of mechanic shop that people tell horror stories about and gives mechanics a bad name. I will never again go to a Pep Boys and urge you not to. I throughly doubt the authenticity of any positive reviews on her. read more

After waiting for over an hour I was told by the customer service rep that, "appointment times work just like a hospital, the techs can't just stop working on a car just bc you're here, it just means you're next in line". Against my better judgment and ignoring all the negative reviews, I decided to go to this shop. Knowing that I am a young female with limited car knowledge, I knew I would have to be on guard coming here. I was concerned because, on Saturday night, the temperature gauge in my car indicated that my car engine was overheating. As one of the only auto repair shops in Waco open on Sundays, Pep Boys felt like my only option to ensure my car didn't incur any serious damage. So I walked in Sunday morning (without an appointment--so I expected to have to wait a bit). I explained my predicament and left the car with them. About four and a half hours later, the manager called me up to talk about my car. I was given a brief diagnosis (that they found nothing wrong except that I needed to fill up my coolant). Long story short, I had to return two days later because the issue persisted. Thankfully, they agreed to take a second look at no additional cost. When I received the second diagnosis, the quote for the repairs was astronomical. It was more than $400 more than the second opinion that I got. I tried asking questions like, "What was the process for the second diagnosis that resulted in finding these repairs?" and, "What could be causing xyz?" or, "Which of these repairs is of the highest priority?" Unfortunately, I got an 'I don't know' for more than one of these questions. I could not get basic questions answered and I felt that they would not entertain a dialogue with me about the repairs in question. Furthermore, I could not get an information about evidence to support the claims for the repairs. The 'expert' wrote "It looks like the water pump isn't working good." What does that mean? What is the test or the sign that it isn't working 'good'? I still don't know. I was also told that my oil change light was on. It was not on when I dropped off the car, nor was it on when I drove it home. All in all, I WOULD NOT recommend going here. I felt taken advantage of and disrespected. The staff did not prove themselves knowledgeable about cars or customer service. If you find yourself in need of auto repair, do yourself and your wallet a favor. Go to Christian Brothers Auto Care. They told me before I even paid for the diagnosis exactly what they would check. They even gave me a quick run down of the possible causes of the problem when I described it to them. They are honest, fairly priced, and MUCH MORE invested in the customer than Pep Boys. read more

Well pepboys is under new management. The last guy was bad but this new manager is even worse. Bryan I think his name is, rude and unhelpful. Very snobby. And when I was talking with the assistant manager he mentioned he has been living out of his car and just moved in with the Salvation Army's place for homeless people. Why did they put someone who can't even keep his own life together in charge? If anything it's unprofessional to mention stuff like that to a customer. Drove 45 min., got there and they didn't even acknowledge I had an appointment and said, "sorry, we have people that had appointments this morning and are still waiting". Thanks a lot, why didn't you tell me that could be the situation. So, he asked me if I could leave it overnight.....I don't think so. And, to top it all off, one of my pet peeves, the guy (20 something years old) at the desk addressed me as, "hey, bud, what can I do for you?", and never looked up from his computer. I only come here so I can get my tires rotated for free. I wouldn't come if it wasn't for that. Once they were supposed to call when they were done rotating my tires and they didn't call till that evening. When I went, they said they were done 30 minutes after I dropped my car off that morning. I bought some wheels from here online and could not even check out without also paying for new lug nuts and a TPMS rebuild kit. Since I was getting the wheels from here I decided to have them installed as well. I scheduled an appointment online. The day of the appointment I called ahead to confirm the wheels had arrived and my appointment time. I was assured all was well. I waited until my scheduled appointment time and arrived 10 minutes early to be told that I would have to wait TWO HOURS for a 30 minute service of having the wheels installed! I asked if I could come back later when they were ready and was told it would be that long no matter what. And the clerk made it a point to ridicule me and belittle me for suggesting that this job could be done in less than two hours. He even asked me if I wanted to work there or some such since I was so good and fast! I told him that I was not that fast as this is not my line of work but other professionals are that fast. I paid for the wheels and went to Discount Tire with NO APPOINTMENT. They got the 30 minute job done after about a 45 minute wait AND saved me a lot of money because the extra parts I was required to purchase to checkout online were not even needed! So, I got better, faster, and cheaper service some place else. I do NOT plan to return unless it is my only choice remaining. read more

This is the worst Pep Boys I have ever been to. There is NO point to their appointments. I made one for 9 am, and my oil change was not done until 10:30. What is the point of the appointment if it's first come first serve when I get there? These guys are borderline creepy, and I feel like I am taken advantage of, considering I know nothing about cars.
