On the 4th of July I needed front brakes, they told me 1.5-2 hours. That timeframe would mean I could still make it to the parade. 3.5 hours later, they still hadn't finished a simple front brake job. We weren't able to make it to the parade, and we ended up spending the holiday at home instead of out having fun. read more

I just needed to get a new tire and have it installed. I ordered the tire and made an appointment online for 2:30 and I didn't leave until 4:45. A ridiculous amount of time to have a tire installed. They tried to sell me other stuff unnecessarily, too. The man I was working with told me my front two tires wouldn't pass inspection and I needed new ones and a realignment. I went to get my inspection at the DMV three days later and had no problem. No wonder their rating is so low. read more

I got a flat tire in Olney and needed an unusual tire size - I drive a Smart Car. I called around to several tire stores in the area and closer to where I live, but nobody carried the correct tire size... Except the Willow Grove Pep Boys. They didn't have the tires, but said they could get them delivered the next morning. As it turns out, they couldn't get them delivered in time... so they sent somebody to King of Prussia to pick them up! I had two new tires and a car inspection completed by the end of the day. I spoke to Raymond several times throughout my ordeal and he was incredibly helpful. Nobody likes spending money on tires, but I couldn't have been happier with the service I received! read more

I was in Horsham, PA when I accidentally drove over a piece of metal attached to a barrier, badly denting my wheel rim. I had a flat in minutes. Walter Johnson at Pep Boys on Easton Rd. took one look at it and said he could hammer out the dent and have me on the road with virtually no worries of the tire going flat again. In less than 15 minutes, he pounded out the dent and had the tire repaired!! Before long I was off to my destination without a care in the world and several days later, the tire doing great! Now THAT's what I call SERVICE! Walter Johnson saved me a bundle of money and a lot of time and worries by working his magic! TLDR: I came in for tire installation and now my car doesn't start! Service Manager and District Manager not taking responsibility! Last week, I took my 2009 Audi A4 into the shop for tire installation. Gave them a heads up that the battery was low so they wouldn't drain it. I parked the car in the lot. The mechanic drove it from the lot to the service area. It was 2pm as they said 1/1.5 hrs for tire install but it was completed around 430pm. After the installation, they tried to start the car but battery was drained. They tried to jump it from the jump points in the front and directly to the battery in the trunk but no luck. Bought a new battery from Pep Boys and they installed it. Dome lights turned on, dashboard looked good, radio came on BUT the engine didn't start. Tried a few more times and they even searched online without any luck. I called my mechanic and his best guess was that the battery sensor may have gone bad. I had to leave for dinner reservations (been over 4 hours since my scheduled drop off) and told them if they couldn't fix it by tomorrow, I would have a tow truck come by to get it to my mechanic. The car gets to my mechanic and he confirms his assumption that the battery sensor was fried. Checked diagnostics and said there was a power overload and other mechanics are burned out and needed to be replaced. I called Pep Boys to see how to move forward, if they want to make good on their mess up. Service Manager and District Manager are not taking responsibility because the battery was low to begin with and that may have caused my sensor to go bad. They started the car and drove it from the lot to the service area without issue, which proves the low battery didn't cause the sensor to go bad! Pep Boys was the last person to start the car. I came in for tires and had to tow my car out. read more

My husband went in the store while on his lunch break and was in uniform (Naval officer) and not only was the lady behind the counter incredibly rude (btw, they offer a military discount and even though he was clearly in uniform, she huffed about giving him the 10% off, and demanded he show military id. She really was something unlike I've ever seen. We aked for the manager and my husband tried his best to be calm and polite but it only got worse from there. She came out to my car to ensure we hit three right measurements and heat rating. I'm so glad she was so knowledgeable on tire and break selection. She also helped me find my lock nut in my car. Gone to the dark side. I have been coming here for over 20 years. I had a car in recently for an inspection and an alignment. The car passed inspection, and was ready in less than two hours. Great. The bill came out high, and I found out they were charging me for an emissions inspection they never performed instead of just an emissions sticker (low-mileage exemption). They corrected the bill. Then I saw that they charged an $8.99 shop fee in addition to the $89.99 alignment fee quoted for the wheel alignment. I have never seen that before, but whatever. I trusted this Pep Boys and the long-time tech Steve that did the work, so I did not check anything when I paid up. A few days later, I was looking over the alignment report. I realized that they had not done a wheel alignment, they had just done a front toe adjustment (the "toe and go" scam). They had then sent me on my way with the car out of alignment with a bad left front camber, and had never said a word about it to me. I went outside and looked at the front of the car (it was backed in), and even from 75'-100' feet away, the bad camber was obvious. The car is a basic one to perform an alignment on... there are no rear alignment adjustments, nor is the front caster adjustable. The front toe and front camber adjustments are the only ones to be made, and Pep Boys could not even be bothered to do that right. I made a couple of calls to the shop and an online complaint to corporate customer service. I was treated rudely, given nonsense excuses, and/or blown off all along the way. You know, the kind of behavior you get from a dishonest shop or contractor who does bad work and then gets called out on it. I finally called corporate customer service and only then did they act on my online complaint. They responded, and they said that the Willow Grove shop's story now was that "camber is only adjustable by replacing the front struts. And installing a camber kit. This would require additional labor". This is another common scam. I personally checked the car, and no additional parts, modifications or labor were necessary to adjust camber on it. Furthermore, it appeared that absolutely nothing had been touched on the struts and a camber adjustment had not even been attempted. I replied to Pep Boys and asked why exactly they thought "camber kits" were needed, why I wasn't told this at the shop before the "alignment", and why they released the unaligned car to me without a mention of the bad camber. Pep Boys just repeated their offer to install "camber kits" on the car, but then also offered a refund if I wanted one. Ultimately, though, they never answered my questions, nor did they process a refund. I did a chargeback on my credit card for the "wheel alignment". A few weeks later, the credit card company contacted me and, despite Pep Boys' previous offer to refund my money, Pep Boys was disputing the chargeback. Their response to the chargeback was "Customer claims that he did not received services. However it is totally wrong as we did provide him services. When he came in store to pick up his vehicle, he signed on sales draft. he was happy with the services and never came back with any complaint." This is, of course, untrue and complete nonsense, and I just had time to think "What the ..." when it hit me: This wasn't a response to MY specific chargeback, this was probably Pep Boys' standard, boilerplate response to all of their chargebacks, because I am sure they get a LOT of them. In any case, enough of this... I contacted Pep Boys corporate, referred to my case number, simply told them "Refund my money or we are going to court.", and got off the phone. Within a day, I received a message from the Willow Grove shop. They needed my credit card number to process my refund. I called back and the refund was processed. (Alignment resolution: I undid what "work" Pep Boys actually did do (see pics), did a rough alignment of my own, and eventually got it to another shop for a proper alignment. Not surprisingly, that shop performed an alignment without needing to install "camber kits" or anything else.) Needless to say, avoid this place. They will try to get you to pay for work you don't need, and they either won't do the work you do pay for, or they will do it poorly (see pictures). For them, it is simply a numbers game: for every person like me, there are 10-20 others who will be successfully ripped off, or won't realize/notice the shoddy work. very bad at time management. my appointment was at 10 am on Saturday for oil change. Im on time and they said it will be done in 45 mins to 1 hr since there is one more appointment at the same time. after 1.5 hrs it is still not done. Since I have other plans I had to leave with out oil change and took the appointment the following day at 9 AM. I am the first person there at 9 AM. but the workers are not available till 9.30 AM. and took another 1 hr to complete. wasted more than 3 hrs in total for an oil change. read more

Great service. They don't try to rip you off. I had a used car that needed $2400 worth of work, more than the car was worth. Instead of stringing me along I was advised to get rid of the car. Great advice! Nice people and very cooperative. I must admit that if you have an appointment you will probably need to wait longer than you thought, so keep that in mind when you bring it in. I had a horrible experience here! They will NEVER get a dime from myself or any other family member. About 8 days ago I spent over $250 dollars getting my bulbs in the front of the car replaced. I noticed that one of the lights were out and that the headlight was not placed back in correctly. I called to schedule an appointment for this to be taken care of. When I arrived to my appointment, I was told that I did not have an appointment and that I could leave my car there all day or come back some other time. I then asked for a refund for the bulb and was told "it doesn't work like that." I asked the guy who was going back and forth with me if I could speak to the manager. He said was the manager. I will be placing calls to complain because this kind of service is unacceptable. I have heard so many negative things about this Pepboys, but decided to give them a try anyway. To top it off, the "manager" whistled happily and said "have a nice day" as I angrily left the store. I'm so disgusted! read more

Well, where do I start. Took my car for new tires... I got a call with them trying to up sell me somethings, I said "no thanks I'm getting rid of the car soon." Send my husband in to pay... he we had an extra $75+ charge to our bill. I looked at the bill and called right away and s/w Olga service manager. I said I did not agree to the Tire Hazard Warranty or the TPMS. She (Olga) said I will call you right back... Just like magic when I called back hours later I was told she's gone and won't be back until Monday. I with the assistant store manager who said she would call me back yet I got a call a guy from service stating. "your husband signed off on everything and when you get new tires you must replace you MUST get a new TPMS Kit!" I disputed that with him and told he is wrong! The light was on due to low tire pressure not because I needed some kit that you did not ask me about. At that point he states that Olga will call me back on Monday after meeting with her managers. After reading some of the negative reviewer I decided to try them anyway as I am new to the area. BIG MISTAKE!!!! I want my money back for services that I did not agree to. I will not stop... For whatever reason, my last post on here was removed. I am adding the story back because the experience was far too frustrating. I came in for a simple battery check, and I was ALSO given the spiel that the alternator was bad, and the battery itself was fine. I said there is no way because the drive there was fine once the battery was jumped, no clicking or any other sign of a bad alternator. I go out to my car after waiting for 4 hours for the battery check, and found that the ignition started clicking when the ignition was turned. HOLLY is the employee that I was dealing with throughout the entire process. HOLLY was rude, abrupt, and completely arrogant. I told her that the car was not acting like that before, it would not have gone bad in that small time frame. She told me the same line that, "COMPUTERS DON'T LIE." I ended up going for a second opinion at the dealership, but I couldn't get out of the lot because the car just would not start. Thankfully the mechanic jump started the car. I went to the dealership and they found that the battery connection was lose after looking at it for 15 minutes. The PEPBOYS mechanics messed up one of the most simple processes of reinstalling the battery? HOLLY was right. Computers don't lie - PEPBOYS LIES. Bunch of scam artists. read more

Dropped off vehicle at 1:30pm called to check on status at 4pm. The car still has not been taken in. Come back at 5:20 and was told it will be done at 6. Said I needed a timing chain but couldn't get the parts in for a week then it was a two day install. That was too long to rent a car so I went through a huge hassle to get the parts then I dropped it off Monday morning. After not hearing anything for couple days I was in the neighborhood and stopped by on Wednesday afternoon to checK the progress. Only to find out they haven't started yet. Now I'm still paying for a rental car and the multiple day work still hasn't started. To make it worse the manager started lying to cover his backside. This is completely ridiculous. I'm not sure if it's laziness or incompetence but this pep boys is the worst. I would suggest taking your car anywhere else. Even if it's subpar work, it's still work. These guys are a joke, especially the manager. read more

After an oil change with my regular mechanic my older car was leaking a small amount of oil from the bolt on the oil pan, pretty obvious to find just by looking at it. Since my regular mechanic is 70 miles away, I take it to Pepboys to get it tightened up or the gasket changed so it stops leaking. They called a few hours later and told me that the oil pan is stripped and the whole thing will need a replacement...at the cost of hundreds of dollars. I took the rest of the day off to take the car to my mechanic to get a second opinion. The oil pan is not stripped, the gasket is just bad, anyone with a minimal amount of mechanical ability can tell when a bolt is stripped or not. He did an oil change, problem fixed. He also looked under the hood for me and found this: 1. The air filter housing was unbolted and open, the bolts were nowhere to be found. 2. The cover on the battery positive terminal was left off 3. Instead of just looking at it, they dumped greenish dye into my oil tank for a "leak evaluation", completely unnecessary, and made it impossible to re-use the oil, which we just put in there two weeks ago. Keep in mind, my mechanic did a whole work up of the car two weeks ago, and none of this was an issue before Pep Boys touched it, it left them worse than when I brought it in, and they tried to charge me HUNDREDS FOR A PROBLEM THAT DIDN'T EXIST. Take from this what you will, at best these people are extremely incompetent, at worst they are liars and outright crooks that think they can take advantage of young women who don't look like they know much about cars. read more

Thank you so much to everyone at this Pep Boys location...especially Walt and Tyrell! I discovered I had a flat tire on my way from Philadelphia to New York. Luckily the Pep Boys was right off the highway. I had four bald tires that needed to be replaced. I didn't have the key for the tire nuts. The guys worked overtime to get the lug nuts off, find the tires and parts I needed and get me back on the road. Everyone was very sympathetic as I waited. I can't thank them enough for the time and muscle they put into what was a long and difficult project. read more

In January, I went there with a squeaking belt (probably the alternator belt, but I wasn't sure), and was told I needed 2 new belts, to the tune of $200.07 (including tax). I subsequently looked up the parts they used (Drive Rite 5040478DR, and 5030335DR, if you're keeping score at home) , for which they charged me a cool $45 each. They sell on Amazon for around $10, and retail at about $15. I was told that I need to replace them every year, presumably because the owner of that particular Pep Boys franchise needs the money to send his kid to Harvard, as I had owned the car for 5 years, and had never needed to replace either belt before. Surprise, surprise! Two months later, the belt is screaming again. I drove back from Atlantic city with the racket going on, not knowing if the belt would break on the highway. When I got back I called the Boys, who told me to bring it right in! Wow, that is great service, at least, even if they did do a crappy job on the original install ( or sold me a cheap part). I cautiously asked if they actually had the part in stock, so I would have to go back again on Monday (this was on a Sunday, with no parts deliveries). Oh no, they didn't have the part after all, but they would order it FIRST THING Monday morning. You will not be surprised to learn that when I called this morning, the Pep Boy answering the phone knew nothing about the parts. He urged me to bring the car in so he could see which belt it needed, then he could order the part. Evidently, he wanted to give the belt a sporting chance to break, by making me go back to the store twice. I suggested that he order BOTH belts, and return the unused one if necessary, a thought which had not occurred to him. I am still waiting for them to call me when the parts arrive, and I will update after they fix my car (I am assuming they will fix it, because I am an incurable optimist). By the bye, I recently had an oil change at Pep Boys, and they told me I needed to replace the spark plugs, which they were willing to do for only $113+ tax. I did it myself in 1/2 an hour. The plugs cost $18, but I got the deluxe platinum coated ones (I'm sure P.B. uses the $2 copper ones). The labor was free. read more

Checked in at 850 am, to be informed that they hadn't started the 8am inspection ahead of me. You can pretty much count on two things at this Pep Boys. 1. You'll get an evasive answer from Walt who will try and get you to add on extra services when coming in for something like an oil change. And 2. Even if you make an appointment, get the email and text confirmations and reminders, you'll still be told that somehow - even if you have one of the first appointments of the day - that they are already behind and they don't know when they'll get to it. I've asked repeatedly why they have an appointment system if it's meaningless. At best you get a blank stare. But I do love how Walt, and others, will always yell out the sarcastic "Have a nice day sir!" when I've seen people get fed up and leave. Today it was my turn to leave in frustration. Just give me a straight answer as to what it will cost. It's not hard. It was just an oil change. read more

I was just there this afternoon for a loose tire repair they told me it would be an hour wait so I spent my hour shopping and spend $150 they then told me the tire cannot be repaired because it was on the side wall but I knew it wasn't on the sidewalk they took me back and show it and I told him it's not on the side wall and the manager asked the old grumpy tire guy, are you sure you can't fix it? and the old man just said no ...I took the tire elsewhere and it was immediately repaired I will never be shopping there ever again at the Willow Grove Pep Boys read more

Almost 2hrs to replace a valve stem. $15 dollar job, so i figured they could do it and save getting dirty.. Wishing I just did it myself.

I made an appointment for the oil change, who does that specially at Pep Boys, but I did. Got there ten minutes before my appointment time and waited in the line for what I called waste of time. The guy on the counter was so rude and had a visitor who was yelling at him. How come these people are allowed to have their girl friends come over while they're clocked in? I was attended in about fifteen minutes with an attitude. I waited there for almost two hours for a job of less than thirty minutes. Btw, this was the first and last time I took my car to Pep Boys. Discount coupon was the trap which I got caught in. They charged me $5 more than the coupon and told me that my car needs more oil than the coupon allows. Ok $5 not a big deal. It took them close to three hours to do the oil change and tire rotation which I doubt they did. I was upset that I had to sit there for that long for such small job. It's only been month and half and I drove less than 1500 miles, my car odometer showing the oil level 30%. I just wonder if they even flush the old fluid and put the new or just check the oil level and top it. I always took my car to the dealership every three months for the oil change and in three months the oil level never went less than 60%. This place is crap. Stay away. read more

I was also insulted my the woman at the counter when I didn't know what type of tires I wanted or my engine size. Isn't it their job to sell me tires and suggest which ones would work best for my lifestyle? Recently went into this Pep boys to return a battery I had purchased at a Pepboys in Philadelphia because that is where I was when my my car died. After having my car jump the battery turned out to be fine. I work in Horsham so I went to my nearest Pepboys the willow grove location with a reciept and the battery. I gave the cashier my receipt and she proceeds to tell me we don't take returns from Philly stores and ask me where I lived, I asked her why she would not take a return with a valid receipt, she goes on to tell me she going to have to ask a manager because she doesn't think she can return this, after about a minute or so she comes back and say "we are going to take it back this time as a one time thing" I ask her why wouldn't take back an item purchased from your store, she replies because of taxes it messes up our system and some other word vomit. I guess she didn't notice the employee discount on the the receipt and had no idea I also work for the company and have for 8 years both as a cashier and part associate at a store roughly 20 minutes outside of Philly and have never seen or taken a training module on handling returns from Philly with any special care. Need less to say I would not recommend this particular Pepboys because they operate on a special system that doesn't allow customers from Philly to return items they don't need even with a receipt without special permission from management read more

Brought my car in 2 months ago to have a battery issue repaired. After about 12 hours the car hadn't even been looked at. Repair guy finally comes out and fixes it in the parking lot, in the dark, instead of in the shop and now I have battery issues again and they are claiming this is the result of normal wear and tear that was not even started when they fixed it. "It's not their fault." The worst attitudes imaginable about the issue too. They don't care and have not even attempted to help; only denied any responsibility. read more

This is probably the worst shop, I've ever dealt with. The communication is absolutely horrible. Our mini van broke down on the turn pike, AAA, towed us there on Sunday. We had an appointment to have it looked at on Monday at 10:30 am. We heard nothing by noon, so we called, they didn't look at it, they ended up looking at it on Tuesday, but literally did nothing to the van, called back as to what the problem is, it was a problem with the bolt on the break caliper. They didn't order a part, we asked why, they said the part isn't made anymore and to look in a junk yard. Funny because it was found at autozone no problem. We ended up having it towed to k and k (on thursday!) right down the street, who not only had it fixed it hours but told us that had we just put a bolt in, we'd have broken back down because the whole caliper needed replaced. Seriously this pep boys not only doesn't communicate but I'm not really sure if they know what they are doing with automotives. Avoid at all costs. read more
