A worthwhile decent investment. The owner/cook is a sweet, kind man that is very soft spoken but makes a mean meal. The price for the interaction, ambiance seems overlooked in other reviews solely focused on the price of food. Great restaurants serve simple meals, but offer an experience that touches your soul. Your sole purpose to going out to eat may be to find a good portion that has a vast variety. Sometimes simple nutrient rich dishes like the Bacon, Mushroom, Avocado, Bbq Cheese Burger with in house made fresh lightly breaded onion rings, it was delightful! My wife and 10 year old daughter loved their simple meals. We remind ourselves often when we visit establishments owned and ran by one individual, they're pouring their heart and soul into this. This place is wild. We stopped in on our way home to grab a quick bite to eat, and the inside is super run down. My husband grew up in castle rock and he couldn't believe how terrible it looked inside. The guy taking our order was very nice and quick to help us. The menu is pretty expansive and they've got some different kinds of meat burgers that you wouldn't find other places. We got two elk burgers, one soda, two small fries, and one shake. That all came out to $50! It truly doesn't add up when you look at the menu. I wish we had looked at other reviews before coming here, but my husband was feeling nostalgic. We were the only customers in there so our food was quick and hot. The food was good but we definitely won't be back. Stopped in for lunch on the way down to Portland. My wife noticed the drive through sign was missing. The burger wasn't bad although the price for burgers were definitely more than I thought they would be. For a mom and pop burger shop I had feeling it would be $70-80 instead it was $114. I like Castle Rock as its the last stop before heading up St Helens. I do not think I could see myself coming back. Signage inside needs help, bathroom felt dirty, my son kept asking where there food eating was. Food was aright nothing to rave about. Recommend trying a different place. read more

The chinese owner is a scamming POS. We paid over $53 for 3 chicken "strip" baskets and 3 sodas. They were NUGGETS that were nasty and mystery meat we couldnt swallow. They don't work their drive-through. I sat there for two minutes at least with zero service . No maintenance is done to anything yet they charge extremely high prices (yes some prices are average) for poor service. The mtn dew was basically club soda, the Pepsi was disgusting and didn't taste like Pepsi at all, the burger was slightly good, the pickles were cucumbers, the bacon was hard and gross and didn't taste like bacon, the service was slow, the outlets were covered in like fire or mold, there were flys everywhere, the bathroom was under repair, the menu was a paper with light over it. C & L has always been one of my husband and I's favorite places to stop whenever we drive to Oregon. My "go to" is the Deluxe Cheeseburger and my husband loves the Pastrami Burger and every time they are delicious! The fries are crinkle cut, which is our favorite and they are always perfectly crispy & flavorful, (I never need to add salt). The owner is always friendly & appreciative of our business. C & L may not be a flashy burger bar but it's delicious! PS - I took away 1 star for ambiance, it would be easy to spruce up the decor a bit. Otherwise it would have been a 5. read more

My first review on yelp, but I've done a few on Google. I rarely go out of my way to provide feedback on food establishments, and understand that it's probably a tough business to be in...however, I felt so cheated yesterday on the quality and amount of food for the price that I feel I must help others in their food choice decision making. I almost walked in but saw a sign stating that the drive-thru was open, so I took that option. Fortunately, even though the drive-through call window was not working I was quickly summoned up in person by the employee. So I ordered from the pick up window and waited 5 to 10 minutes for my order. The wait didn't bother me too much but I ordered the chicken fingers platter and the small coffee. I was disappointed by the $19.95 cost but really felt cheated when I received my order. The chicken fingers were NOT chicken fingers, but processed chicken nuggets. There were about 6-7 nuggets and a small helping of fries. With the small side of tartar sauce it may have cost $2.00 for the food. If the entire order had cost me less than $8-10, I would have been so disappointed. read more

The elk burger was underwhelming and came with probably 15 fries, and we received probably the worst $12 chicken strip basket we have ever gotten. The "chicken strips" were obviously cheap, bulk Tyson-style chicken nuggets which would have probably cost $12 for a massive bag, the fries were frozen krinkle fries like you'd get at Costco, and it came with a piece of toast. Chicken strips ordered for our kids was undercooked. We were very lucky to find it and hence avoided a serious issue. Where do I begin. In my 22 years of dining, I have never felt compelled to post a yelp review, yet here I am. This was some of the most inedible looking food I have seen. As shown in figure 1, the chicken strips were the cheapest looking meat I've ever seen. The bacon, detailed in figure 2 appeared to be "beggin' strips", the dog treats. The fries however, seemed fine, one of the members in my party ate one before we left. Aside from the quality, the prices were absurd. $60 for two burgers with fries and a chicken strip basket. We felt robbed. My group didn't eat any of the food we ordered. We simply chalked it up to a loss and moved on with our day. This meal isn't something I would wish on my worst enemy. My burger, attached in photos, was 16.00 because I asked for lettuce, mayo, tomato, onion, and pickle. My burger patty is gray.
