Their entrees are fine but just plain beef taco dinner with rice and beans and their sour topping and extra Pepe's sauce. If you are really hungry, get the beef and bean stuffed tacos. The only knock on this location is the size. It is a narrow restaurant, tight quarters. The staff is good, and good with kids. Consistent quality. This location is popular too. Pepe's Batavia gave me a hard time using the $10 coupon that came in the mailer. We didn't go on margarita nights and when we ordered wine and mixed drinks we were told those were on special too and could not use the coupon. She wouldn't allow any of our party of 4 to order a drink special if we used the coupon. I have been going there for 30 years and I'm not going back. That's punishing the whole table just because 1 person has a free dinner. Waitress was very rude. Chipolte and has better tacos anyway with no hassle. Been coming here for over 2 yrs now, and we love everything about it! Love that everyone "regulars" are so friendly!! I've said in prior reviews, don't let the brand name fool you, because this is own by a wonderful, all hands on family, Mexican Americans with authentic Mexican cuisine! It never disappoints!! Very sad,, Long time customer,, but the quality of food products served have been declining.. Last visit they had new menus and food came out cold and tasteless.. Salsa was awful and chips tasted like stale oil.. Usually go on the margarita special night and question the alcohol content as I had two drinks with zero effect.. I used to love Pepe's when I was a kid, but visiting recently wasn't quite as magical. That is not to say that it was bad, but it wasn't anything special at least at this location. The tacos were decent. The chips were just OK. I've definitely had better ones at other Mexican restaurants. They have RC instead of Coke or Pepsi, which was fine but wouldn't be my first choice. We did have a coupon that made the cost reasonable, but I don't think I would visit without having that discount. read more

Every time I visit Illinois this is me and my family's go to spot for Mexican food. Nestled inside a small plaza with ample parking... this place packs a punch with family recipes. I must say that I don't stray from the menu... my absolute favorite is anything with molé. I'm not sure what magic they got going on in that kitchen the molé is the best! With all the authentic Mexican restaurants in the area, I cannot give this one a good review. When entering you may or may not be acknowledged, when seated prepare to wait for a uninspired person to present you with a menu and maybe ask if you would like a drink. After looking at the the menu and pricing, you will expect a delicious meal only to find out its mediocre at best. We have tried Pepes multiple times in hopes for a better result, unfortunately the service and food continues to get worse. If you decide to try it, I hope you have a better experience. read more

We live in Aurora, which has alot of Mexican restaurants some are very good others not so, but my wife and I love to go to the Pepe's in downtown Batavia. This place has been a constant staple in our going out to eat whenever we want Mexican cuisine. From the drinks to dinner, which the carne asada meal is the BEST, to the always attentive staff and owners, we are always treated like family here. For a chain restaurant it's very good food and nicely priced. Enjoy. read more

I grew up with Pepe's in Woodridge and throughout the last few years of living in Naperville, I also frequented that location. I love their beef tacos and margaritas. We recently moved to Batavia and I was excited to find a Pepe's nearby. I wondered if it would live up to what I have known and loved all these years. I went to dine in last night with two friends who are also Pepe's fans and we were so happy to have such a wonderful experience! The staff were so nice and attentive. The salsa at this location was our favorite ever - so fresh - and the goblet margaritas were delicious. We also loved the updated look of this location. Can't wait to go back! read more

I love Pepe's. Don't get me wrong, I know it's gringo Mexican food, but it's tasty gringo Mexican food. I have become a regular, so my server knows who I am and brings me a not-too-sweet margarita soon after I'm seated. I typically start with the taquitos, a deep-fried, stuffed mini-taco filled with either beef or cheese served with guac and sour cream. Yum. I've never had a bad meal, but I usually go with some sort of steak taco/tostada combo served with refried beans and rice. For those griping about lack of flavor, I suggest topping any selection with Pepe's homemade hot sauce, which gives any dish plenty of kick. What I also appreciate is that Pepe's is accommodating for kids. Mine don't particularly care for beans and rice, so subbing with fries is no problemo. And, honestly, their fries are really tasty and a single order is a substantial portion. I haven't had dessert there, but only because I am always too full by the time I pry myself out of the booth. Did they get a new cook? Can't understand the 5 stars I see on here. The only thing good was the chips and salsa. My husband ordered the chicken enchiladas, and I had the small chicken burrito with suizo. Completely tasteless for both of us. I don't mean just the spice, absolutely no taste with a broken sauce. Looked and tasted awful. Honestly it had less flavor than plain oatmeal. The tortillas were gummy as well. If I had to guess, with the speed it came out, looks like it was just microwaved. We used to frequent this location often and received top notch service, quality food, and great margaritas. This will unfortunately be the last time we dine here. This is the second time since, after the reopening. Menu prices are now higher and margaritas are watered down. Quality of food is still good, but service this evening from our server was poor. Service started out well. She took our order, delivered our food in a timely manner, then decided to sit at the bar and share a cozy dinner with the owner. Not once did she acknowledge us from that point forward. At the end of our meal, another veteran server finally gave us our bill and some to-go containers. Then he too disappeared. At this point we were the only patrons left in the restaurant. After about 10 minutes of waiting, we finally got up from our table, walked to the bar and handed our original server the check out of frustration. No apology whatsoever either from her or the owner. Recently remodeled, this is a great spot to enjoy a delicious meal with excellent service in a family friendly environment. We have been coming here for years and their food keeps getting better. The margaritas are half price on Tuesday and Thursday and they are yummy. They never say no when we want extra chips and the salsa is fresh and flavorful. It pains me to write this review. I loved Pepe's when I was a kid. My parents used to take me and my brother here almost every Saturday, and I felt like such a big shot that I got to have my own tacos. I also used to get this enchilada or something like that which had imitation crab and cheese in it. It's pretty disgusting to think about now, but as a kid, it made my under developed taste buds explode. Imagine my surprise when we ventured to the Pepe's down the street from our house and it was just... awful. Nothing had flavour and it made me so sad to sit in this booth and eat the same thing I had eaten countless other times and have it fall flat. Estoy triste :( I gave it two stars only because the people there were friendly and very attentive. I'm just sorry that the food was so bad. The margarita was bigger than my head, but did feel a bit light on the alcohol content. The nachos were delicious and could've served 2-3 people. I came here on cinco de mayo with my parents. We were celebrating my birthday. They took down some hats and sang around me, gave me dessert. Their drinks are VERY STRONG. Three large margaritas and I was way beyond drunk. Their food was good I think. I dont really remember. But the pictures that I have show the servers with huge smiles and they clearly made my 21st not so memorable, which is a great thing for that birthday! Love them! Also, my parents go once a week. Awful, awful restaurant ! I don't feel like giving it even one star, but have to for this review. My family made the terrible mistake of going there on a Friday night and we regretted it throughly ! The food is so, so, so bad. Perhaps you're laughing and saying "Well, what do you expect from a Pepe's ?", but honestly we didn't know that. Perhaps they bank on the fact that you purchase their alcohol and are so stoned by the time your food arrives that you find it okay ! However, this was not our case and so it was a terrible experience ! We ordered the usual fare, tacos, tamales, enchiladas ! My entree took forever to arrive, the server said that they were waiting on the tamales. By the time it arrived, the enchiladas were cold and the tacos tasted like leather ! Seriously ! Other family members ordered enchiladas and burritos, but even that was cold and bland and the meat did not seem fresh, tasted so tough and leathery ! Table service was okay. We had a smooth talking server, who made us wait forever for some bad food. We regret it. We are never going back to this place. Gross and HORRIBLE SERVICE! Ironically the place was pretty busy but we sat at the front without being greeted for at least 10 minutes. I finally, and pretty agressively, got the attn of a server who nodded his head but still didn't come back for 7 or so minutes. We were finally seated and given a 1/2 basket of chips but no salsa. At least it was something to give to the hungry kiddos that were with us. After a very LONG time the food came and my husband couldn't eat his because the chicken smelled bad and tasted bad (as in spoiled meat.)
