I love the fact they open semi early at 10am on weekdays. I usually come here if I'm waiting for my car to be serviced across the street. It's a decent size establishment. They offer slot machines. There's a bar to sit at not just the table sitting. Service is always nice and friendly. The steak tacos are my go to. This particular visit I had their chicken soup. When I say it didn't disappoint, IT DIDN'T DISAPPOINT. It was hot and fresh. It had the right amount of chicken and vegetables in it. The flavor was spot on. Came here with friends. We were seated immediately (they weren't busy). I do like they five you unlimited chips and salsa to snack on. I ordered 2 strawberry margaritas. Be warned, though, they make them strong, they're huge, and they cost $20/ea. For my entrée, I ordered the steak tacos (3) with rice and refried beans. I like the tacos, big size, seasoned well, not overcooked. The beans and rice were average. All in all, you do get a lot of food, plus the chips and salsa. When you arrive, parking is in the rear, but they have a back entrance. They have plenty of slot machines if you're into that. The restaurant was clean. Always loved Pepes. There was a location right next to my high school. My friends and I ate there after every single dance practice. So not only do they have good tacos, it brings back such good memories. I've been to many different locations but they all really taste the same. I always get chicken or beef soft shell (corn) tacos and they really are delicious. The shells are soft but don't tear at all. The meat has good flavor and is always juicy! I'm not one to say what is authentic Mexican, however I think this has to come pretty close. This particular location has outside seating which is great for the pandemic and now that the weather is so nice. It's also a nice touch that they have carryout margaritas in a cup with a small bottle of tequila! I will always be a loyal patron of Pepe's whether carryout or dine-in. read more

My first time at this particular Pepe's. I thought the food was so-so, nothing special both of my sisters said they wouldn't come back again. The only reason we picked this restaurant is because it was my cousin's birthday and she lives nearby. I ordered one of their combination platters. This evening 4/14/24 I called Pepe's Crestwood, IL to confirm that they were opened until 10pm considering it's a Sunday. A woman answered, confirmed that they close at 10 however my husband arrived at 9:20 to locked doors and phone calls no longer being answered. Worst taco place ever. I ordered two veggie tacos with corn and veggie sope. When I arrived to pick up the order, they told me that they didn't have sope. So I added one more veggie taco. When I got home they have me two ground beef tacos with flour. When I called to ask if they could credit my card because I wasn't driving back. They said sorry, there's nothing they could do. I went with my cousin yesterday as we did many times in the past and the service has changed. The waiter did not come back at the table to ask if we needed anything we had to look and ask for him and the food was not well made my taco salad with shell was all soggy on the bottom and mushy and when I told him he didn't care. And when we're leaving to pay the bill he didn't even Thankyou with kindness we gave him a tip that he really didn't deserve! The co workers were not even friendly when we asked her question. I have been to this location several times in the past, but today I think that is coming to an end. It's not that the food, or service were bad. The prices appear to have changed putting a taco dinner in the same ballpark as a steak dinner elsewhere. The place isn't huge, but it's big enough, with a bar also.....this was one of my problems. They insisted on seating people near the bar, which normally is ok, but the two drunks having the slapping contest, staring down every female that walked in made it not ok. I'm glad I didn't waste my money on a dinner. I asked for peppers with my carry the waiter said they were in the bag. I guess it's my fault for not checking. What I did get is mushy meat, limp lettuce, on stale corn tortillas. I took a bite of each hoping something was edible no luck. The garbage they went. Their chips and salsa are really good here..chips are always warm and the salsa has just the right amount of spice. I like their guacamole but I would add more onions and cilantro for more flavor. I usually order the carne asada tacos chicos, which comes with guac. It tastes so fresh! Yum! IIt's a small place, the service is friendly, the food is good--not as greasy as the food at other Mexican restaurants. There's a nice selection of food. Called an order in, went to pick it up and the order was wrong. The lady said yes you order two tacos. We said No, we ordered two taco dinners. She argued with us and we just left. Every single time we order from this restaurant, they get our order wrong. This must be stopped. I do not recommend this Pepe's. We will not return. There are other better taco spots. I can't knock the food. It has very good seasoning (IMO). And, the staff members are nice and friendly. So, basically good food/service. I've been coming for years. However.... They've recently (in the last couple of weeks) added a "convenience fee" of 79 cents (which is on restaurant average of about 15 to 30 cents) for using a credit card. So, you may want to make sure you have cash before you go. I guess when society goes completely cashless, we'll have to pay that fee (that none of the other restaurants have) if we want to eat there. I personally think it was added as a convenience to collect more of your money like they did for ATMs outside your bank's network. Just so you know what to expect. read more

Not all Pepe's are created equal. Some are very standard, with by-the-book somewhat Americanized dishes that change very little from location to location. This Pepe's stood out from the rest in terms of quality and portion size. The decoration in here was standard, including a little water fountain feature, and a giant mural of Aztec influence covering one wall. Our server was very competent, and quite pleasant. The food was the highlight, though. We started out with the Presidente appetizer that was advertised on the placemats. What we recieved looked nothing like the picture, but whatever the cooks created, it was damned good. A few chips placed on the edges of a giant mass of beans, red sauce, onions, chorizo, and a pile of melted, gooey cheese. Two baskets of chips later, the dish still remained half full. For my main course, I had the steak fajitas served with flour tortillas. The giant, sizzling platter had a well-seasoned and perfect ration of steak, peppers, and onions. It also came with rice and beans. I was only able to finish one fajita (due to the massive appetizer), but the remainder of my meal made for two more meals as leftovers. Although there are two Pepe's within a 15 minute drive from my house, from now on, I plan to take the 40 minute drive to this one instead! read more
