Tamales
Gabe P.

One of my favorite spots in El Paso. Kind of a hole in the wall- blink and you'll miss it kind of spots. They only have 4 tamales on the menu- green Chile, red Chile, Chile relleno and a sweet kind dessert one with raisins. All 4 are amazing and would recommend. In my experience the less they have on the menu, the better each individual item ends up being. He also makes them fresh each and everyday! The owner himself is extremely friendly and the recipe is a well kept family secret. There is a lot of history in those food. The price is also very well worth it. I would go take the trip just to talk to him and see what he has to say. I would totally recommend if you are in the area to go and visit this spot. Definitely take some home to go too as they reheat very well.

I wish I could give this place 1000 stars ! I am originally from El Paso but I live in dallas , And by far these are the BEST tamales ever ! and they are big ( good size tamale ) In El Paso there is a big competition when it comes to authentic tamales and in Dallas there's literally no where you can find a good tamales . So everytime I come in town this is my first stop ! Literally ! Even when my grandpa comes down to Dallas for thanksgiving or holidays I always send him money to bring me multiple dozens because they are just so delicious! I crave them ! On thanksgiving I'll be eating these tamales instead of the turkey and big thanksgiving traditional feast the family makes . I'll even hide the tamales to make them last because once people see some Pepe's tamales , they all grab , And they don't just grab one , They grab like 3 at a time . I would highly recommend this place ! Also Jorge who is the beautiful smile you see when you first walk in was literally the nicest most welcoming guy ! He made us feel so special because of the great hospitality he gave us . You definitely don't get people who are this sweet and happy in life in Dallas . So it's always great and heart warming to come across people like Jorge ! Pepe's tamales will definitely be my go to forever in my heart place for literally the rest of my life . No other place could compare .

Got tamales to go for my husband while I was in town on a business trip. Gentleman who helped me at the counter was very nice, good to talk with. $20 and some change (including tax) for a dozen tamales which I mixed between pork and chicken. They DO take cards here. Sure hope the food is good!

Pork and red chile sauce and chicken and chile tamales. (No picture of the Hatch green chile and cheese because I ate it too quickly!)

The tamales were over priced for mid food. I had the red pork ones and they weren't great at all.

It was very heavy and very cheesy. There was something super heavy about that I cant describe. The staff was super nice and got us our food and drinks and refilled our salsa n chips often. My friend had the mole item and felt it was way too sweet/cocoa on it. Overall I would've wanted to try the other machaca items and other things. The vibe is very homely and chill, bit of a hole in the wall atmosphere.

I had just flown in from the airport, and my brother arranged it as a special family gathering. Everything started normally: we were seated, ordered our food, received our drinks, and enjoyed the complimentary chips and salsa. Then my sister (who is LGBTQ+) stepped away to use the restroom. When she returned and sat down, a manager approached our table and loudly told her--in front of other diners--that "MEN cannot use the female restroom." My sister was mortified and humiliated by the public confrontation. The manager's tone and assumption were shocking and clearly discriminatory. We immediately got up and left without eating. This wasn't about enforcing any legitimate policy; it was rude, insensitive, and targeted. My adult sister is perfectly capable of reading the restroom signs herself--no one needed to police or shame her in such a way. The incident felt rooted in homophobia and transphobia from management. We will never return to this place, and we will actively discourage others--especially LGBTQ+ individuals and allies--from patronizing it. What should have been a joyful family milestone was ruined by bigotry. Avoid this establishment if you value respect and inclusivity.

I bumped it up to four stars for the super friendly service and the excellent aguas frescas. We got there late, about an hour before closing and they were literally trying to get rid of the aguas for free. I guess they have to dump it if they don't use it all. It was close to our hotel so we gave it a try. Portion sizes are good. The taco platter comes with six tacos! I had the flautas Chinampa which came with four beef flautas, beans, rice, and salad. I forgot, the taco platter even came with a baked potato. Prices were excellent. We had gone to McDonald's in the morning and spent more. They also cave us frijoles charros for free. Not sure if this was standard or if they were also trying to get rid of it. I would return for the service and the convenience, but if you're looking for life changing Mexican cuisine, it's not here. What you get is a good amount of decent food at a good price served by great people.

Had multiple thousand Google reviews and they were all close to five stars. So I knew I had to check it out. It was super close to my hotel, so I popped in the car and found it without trouble. Trouble. Again, there is pretty limited parking so it's kind of hit and miss whether you'll find a spot or not. Fortunately, I did. When you walk up to the place, the building itself is pretty nondescript. They have a nice selection of outside seating, and your window to order is outside. Very nice lady at the counter gave me helpful suggestions and so I ordered three tacos and an amazing lime and cucumber fresca. Went in and sat down inside and was pleasantly surprised by the interior. It definitely had more of an upscale bar vibe to it than a Taco shop. The waiter that brought out my tacos told me that it turns into more of a nightclub after hours. I may have to go check that out. The tacos themselves were absolutely off the chain! The tortillas were blue corn and everything on it tasted so fresh and so wonderful. The carnitas was fantastic, the brisket Taco was to die for and the blackened shrimp Taco was one of the best I've ever had. Had. The flavors were so balanced and on point, it was one of the most satisfying taco experiences I have had!! I will probably hit this place up a couple more times before I leave El Paso. If you are in El Paso, you probably already know about this place. But I'm telling you what you cannot go wrong for tacos and that lime/ cucumber fresca! Bottom line? It's about 10 hours drive from Las Vegas to El Paso. And this Taco shop will give me a great reason to do a road trip anytime. Do yourself a favor and go check this place out!
