We were able to get a reso for 5:45pm today (Sunday). It was completely full when we arrived! The service was great! Checking in but not too often to disrupt. Glasses always full. Very homey, comfortable vibe. We had the Caesar salad to start, my husband the spaghetti bolognese with an extra meatball and me the spinach ricotta cannelloni! It was delicious! The pasta was cooked perfectly. It was too much food though! We will definitely go back and when we do, we will share our main! They have a 4 course meal for 2 for $90. Share an appetizer, salad, main and dessert - sweet deal, will try that next time. Our table was super close to the one next to us and we had to sit weirdly angled next to one another rather than directly across bc otherwise the server couldn't reach the table next to us. Wonderful afternoon lunch! The decor has a very authentic feel, the staff were plentiful, attentive, and very knowledgable. The menu, although quite limited, offered fare for all palettes. The avocado salad, mixed with shredded beets, pistachios toasted almonds, goat cheese and cherries topped with a light vinaigrette was amazing and large enough to share. We had Veal parm and cuttlefish entres, with options for sides, pasta, brocolli or potato, to which the portions were large, it was probably the best veal parm I have ever had, paired with the house red, wow! The cuttlefish received rave reviews as it was cooked to perfection, with the sides accompanying perfectly. If I lived in Vancouver, Pepinos would be a regular choice for me. I had wanted to come here for a while and was so excited to finally plan our visit. The avocado starter was amazing but everything was disappointing from then on. I work in hospitality and my job is to recommend local restaurants but sadly I will not advise people to visit Pepino's. We ordered the alfredo with mushrooms which was such a small portion for the huge price and just basic mushroom - where were the shiitakes?! It was tasty but I've had bigger pasta appetizers! We ordered the $30 sablefish. Omg what a mistake - $30 for one small piece of fish. Should've ordered the spaghetti & meatballs for $26 - at least I would've got a full plate of food. We both left hungry and disappointed. It seems to me that the only way to go here is to order the spaghetti & meatballs. Certainly not the small sablefish anyway. Sadly I was left and still am left with a bitter taste in my mouth. So much hope and now $90 lighter. We passed on dessert and made our escape. Feel deflated from this place. The server should have advised us a bit more. Would love Pepino's to redeem themselves but I cannot risk my hard earned $$. So many better Italian places on The Drive to visit ........ read more

I had been looking forward to dining at Pepino's and unfortunately I left disappointed. First the food, the Calamari was tender but devoid of any personality, the garlic sauce that came with it was pretty meh, I found myslef dousing it with lemon to give it any flavour. I've had far better 16 dollar Calamari in Vancouver. The sauce for Spaghettoni was overly salty and again the meat balls lacked any flavour although the pasta itself was cooked perfectly. The highlight of this meal was the Caesar salad, it was fresh and crunchy and had a good kick, although it could have used pepper which no one offered us. The service was less than attentive, in fact we were wondering if there was some sort of group service going on as we didn't even really know who our server was, we assumed our server was the guy who took our order and gave us our bill, otherwise we had to flag down people to get anything, when our pasta came we were promised cheese and pepper but the server never returned with it. The room itself is very cool, but could use some sound baffles as it is hard to hear anyone speak. If there was an option to give Pepinos 2.5 I would, it wasn't awful, but it left alot to be desired. I love Savio Volpe, I wasn't expecting this to be at the level of Savio Volpe, but I was expecting something special, this just wasn't. read more

I love this place. Great family style Italian Dining. I tried almost everything on the menu, and they were all amazing. My favourites are: Fettuccine Alfredo with mushrooms, Zucchini with parmeggiano, and Chicken piccata. Service is always exceptional there. read more

Service was top notch. Our server was extremely attentive, had a very energetic attitude and our food came out in a timely manner. We got the spaghetti and meatballs and the spinach and ricotta cannelloni and both were so tasty. The spaghetti sauce was simple, fresh tasting, and tasted like your grandmother made it that day with love. And the meatballs were huge! They have a great wine list, lots of nice Italian wines to choose from and some B.C. wines. The cheesecake for desert was lovely. I will defiantly go again when I'm ready to have a carb cheat day. Pepino's is hands down my favourite Italian restaurant in the Vancouver area. Whether it's a special occasion or just a regualr date night, Pepino's is our number one choice. The staff is extremely friendly, the quality of their wine is unlike any other I've tasted at a restaurant, and their food is delicious. The atmosphere of the restaurant is also very nice. It's a smaller space which makes any dinner feel more intimate. I would 100% recommended Pepino's. read more

Amazing meat, average pasta, terrible service, absurdly loud. Arrived at 9ish on a Saturday and the place was packed. They took our coats at the door (remember this) and sat us in a sardine can with about a million other people. No more round tables of Nick's, they probably doubled the capacity - also forgot to double the sound baffling. The place was uncomfortably loud, impossible to talk to my date across the table - we were yelling and so was everyone else! It took forever to get service so the host came and got our drink order and offered them for free, this was nice. Our waiter was impossible to find all night long. There is one very tall woman server who was amazing and basically took care of us all night because our waiter was playing the room. We got the meal for 2. The salad was... ok. The canneloni was fresh tasting but average - better than Nick's? Sure, better enough for what they charged for it... not so much. The lamb chops were absolutely amazing, the only dish that was worth the price. After dinner and our dessert drinks were gone, we paid, had our left overs packed up, and got up to leave and basically stood there looking like goofs for a good minute before I found the host... watching internet videos near the front door with one of the kitchen staff... and asked him where he put our coats... /sigh seriously folks, I don't mind paying premium rates for food if the food and the service are good. If Pepino's was trying to achieve Nick's level of service, they failed miserably. Last but not least, if you're going to double the capacity of the room... add some soundproofing. With so many great Italian places in Vancouver I don't feel any need to go back to Pepino's even though it is right in my hood. read more

came here for mine and my friends' bday- they gave us a greeting recipe card for their famous pasta sauce! we ordered - the avocado and beet salad - beets were perfect, loved the goat cheese - we loved the pastas: bolognese, clam linguine, and scampi special - veal was the good but the sauce was heavy - mushrooms were AMAZING - tiramisu was delicious, definitely trumped the cheesecake option. will come back! read more

Best spaghetti and meatballs I've ever had and the cheesecake is to die for. Recommend making a reservation, otherwise there's usually a sizeable wait. My only complaint would be that their manhattans used to be top notch but last time I went it was a pre-mix poured over way too much ice so might stick to the wine instead of cocktails. read more

I know Italian and I don't mind paying a premium for it . It is very time consuming . The food they are serving doesn't even come close to Italian . Just a cheap imitation must be a joke . I ordered fettuccini alfredo . the sauce wasn't alfredo sauce . Just a cheap imitation it didn't taste like alfredo sauce . My friend was also disappointed the bolognese sauce didn't have tomato sauce or tomato paste in it . Just a cheap imitation again . I was very disappointed I will never eat there again . read more

My husband and I were looking forward to dining at "THE HOUSE THAT SPAGHETTI BUILT" but I'm sorry to say we won't be in a hurry to go back. Firstly, if you're looking for Nicks version of spaghetti bolognese you will be disappointed. The pasta was good but was fairly dry with very little sauce on it. My husband and I shared a Caesar Salad that was DRENCHED in dressing, 2 or 3 times more than needed! Then my husband's 1/2 Chicken Piccata arrived and I had to wait a full 5/6 minutes for my spaghetti bolognese. It came hot but I was never offered fresh Parmesan on top and I had to ask for more sauce, which they brought. Staff were very nice but the kitchen needs work - no presentation for the dishes, no veggies included, nothing at all. read more

Actually surprised the reviews for this place aren't higher. Everybody I know loves it. Went for the first time last weekend and was really impressed, the service was unmatched, and the food was soooo good. The general manager was also great and worth noting. I cannot figured out why people are willing to pay so much for a hokey decor (old linoleum in the bathrooms, old fashioned murals) and very traditional (read: boring) and very restrictive (read: no options if you have allergies) menu. Great service. Must say that off the bat. Food was really good but not "to die for". Had the spaghettini with meatballs and "sauce". Sauce was a meaty red sauce. I was pleased with the meal but not overwhelmed. The salad (can't remember what it was at the moment) was the best part of the meal. Would return to try the regular spaghetti with meat sauce. It is not even close to Nick's. The food was okay. Portions small. Ordered a Caprese salad and it was so small it really should have served one, not the whole table. More for a hipster crowd. I really don't know what the hype is about this restaurant. You need to make a reservation way in advance and even then we didn't get seated until half an hour past that. We stared with the avocado salad which was delicious, if I could of only had this for dinner I would not be complaining about the food. My boyfriend ordered the ravioli and said it was really bland, which is what my co-worker advised me about the food before going. I had the chicken with broccoli and it was super oily and minimal flavour. I would of rather just made us dinner at home. Anyways, go for the avocado salad atleast that was very flavourful. Both my boyfriend and co-worker said there are WAY better Italian places. Lastly it was so loud in there that you can't hear each other talk.
