We came here as a group for the all day happy hour menu on a Tuesday. B and I ordered the Honey & Pepperoni Pizza, Garlic Bread and meatballs. The food here was exceptionally delicious. I highly recommend ordering the meatball. B and I both agree they have the best meatballs that we have ever tasted so far/as of writing this review. They offer three kinds of oil for the pizza: parmesan, spicy and basil. I really like the parmesan flavor. service was great here. B got 2 of the Strathcona Lager. The honey & pepperoni pizza was delicious. They were very generous on the pepperoni. I really enjoyed it. The garlic bread was more than garlic bread. It was actually stuffed with cheese. loved our food a lot and highly recommend coming here if you have not. The decor was also nice and comfortable. One thing to note is that the reception at this restaurant is awful. I am guessing it is because of the metal roof or something. Ambiance: love the modern and cozy look. It's quite impressive. Service: servers were very nice and helpful. We called asking if we can use a Travelzoo coupon and still have the deal, and they ok'd it. Food: We were a party of 6. We came for the $49 DINNER FOR TWO deal. Then one of us found a Travelzoo coupon, which is a deal for 4 pax. It was perfect for us. There was plenty of food, more than we thought. We were so full. A few caveats: * The menu for both deals were laden with carbs. Pizzas and Garlic Bread were both very, very good although pizza, pasta and bread seemed a bit too much. Would have been nice to switch bread with wings or ribs. *We were served 3 kinds of oils to go with the pizza - Parmesan Oil, Herb Oil and Chili Oil. Bufala: happy hour edition Bufala has such a welcoming and warm atmosphere, it's a nice and cozy spot for River District. The servers are tentative and really do take care of you! We came here for the happy hour menu and ordered a kale salad, pepperoni pizza, arancini balls and two cocktail. The kale salad was surprisingly good and was enough for two people to share as an appetizer. My only comment would be that I wished it was chopped smaller, as some of the pieces were too big. The pepperoni pizza was generous with its topping. It was sweet and slightly spicy- honestly my favourite combo, it paired amazingly together! The arancini balls were the star of the show and a must get item for sure: they were perfectly crispy and flavourful - I was so close to getting another order to take home. The cocktail I ordered has strawberries in it and was lovely. It was sweet and not overly alcoholic (I'm not a fan of tasting my liquor). read more

Went to finally try out Bufala as the kerrisdale location has been on my list for quite some time. Went in a Thursday and was able to just catch their happy hour, which was great! Inside was spacious and airy, and we were sitting in the comfiest booth that could actually make you fall asleep. We were promptly greeted by their server who came to check in on us multiple times throughout our meal. Off the HH menu, we ordered garlic bread and rigatoni bolognese. Garlic bread was honestly very mid - no garlic taste and was basically a slab of dough. I did enjoy the rigatoni bolognese, but I thought that the pasta and sauce could've worked better together. Sauce was not fully infused with the pasta. We also ordered 2 additional pizzas off the main menu. The quattro formaggi pizza was way too salty for us but I think would be perfect for those who prefer strong cheese taste. Marinara sauce was very strong, but the cheese taste was even stronger! We also ordered the roasted pineapple and ham pizza, which I very much enjoyed! The roasted pineapple was sweet and balanced out the saltiness if the ham really well. There were also green onions which gave a fresh taste to each bite. I would get this one again! Overall a nice place if you want to relax and chat with friends but the price point doesn't really justify the quality of the food. read more

Bufala is a modern and pretty Italian restaurant located in River District. I had no expectations prior to coming but a friend had been many times before and hyped up the food quite a bit. I love the decor and vibes of this place, especially the tall ceilings, ample lighting, and open bar concept. Service was prompt. We ordered a pizza and a pasta and it arrived quite quickly. I like that there were 3 different oils (herb, parmesan, and chilli) that you could season the pizza with. The mushroom risotto was delicious - very flavourful and not too salty and the risotto texture was to my liking. The pizza was thin crusted but also quite delicious, I liked the combination of sweet and savoury. Everything was great but unfortunately, the tiramisu fell a bit short for me. I think this was just a matter of my personal preference as I prefer more bitterness and flavour of the espresso. This tiramisu was a bit on the sweeter side so I likely wouldn't get it again. I would definitely like to return to try some of the other pastas and pizzas! read more

Such gorgeous and spacious interior! Came here for brunch (went for the 50% off brunch deal before 11AM) and everything was such a deal! We got a classic breakfast (with bacon), sausage benedict and a tiramisu french toast! The food came quick, however I don't think the quality was that great, and our bacon was fried to a complete crisp and our toasts were a little tooo toasty. Bufala is the latest new restaurant in River District and I was super excited to finally have an Italian joint in my neighbourhood. After a long productive day getting our balcony ready for the summer, my boyfriend and I headed to Bufala for a late night dinner and was happy to learn that they have a late night Happy Hour menu. Bufala offers an exceptional dining experience with its inviting and vibrant ambiance. The restaurant's warm lighting and tasteful decor create a cozy yet sophisticated atmosphere, perfect for both casual dinners and special occasions. The attentive and friendly staff enhance the experience with their excellent service, ensuring that every guest feels welcome and well taken care of. The meal started strong with perfectly crispy arancini, setting the tone for the rest of the evening. I usually don't love pesto but the pesto it was served with was nice. The beef rigatoni was cooked al dente, showcasing the kitchen's skill in preparing pasta. However, the highlight of the night was the pepperoni hot honey pizza, complemented by three unique oils: Parmesan, herb, and chili. Each oil added a delightful twist to the already amazing pizza. Overall, Bufala is a fantastic choice for a memorable meal, combining great ambiance, outstanding service, and delicious food. Stopped in to have a meal since we were in the neighborhood. Greeted by one of the staff very friendly and all smiles. Seated right away. The seats are quite soft and you almost feel like you sink in a bit which my wife liked I was ok with it but def comfy more so than a hard chair. We were given water right away but we also ordered drinks as well as our food items at the same time. The meals are served family style so you get a small plate to yourself and help yourself to the mains. The porchetta was good, nothing exceptional but solidly good. Crispy rind, meat a bit drier than I like but accompanied with the sauce and mustard was quite enjoyable. The potatoes were super crispy on the outside and soft in the middle though I would say there's a lot more crispy than soft. If you like that then go for it. The Ling cod was prepared nicely, with the tomatoes sauce/chick peas there was a nice acidity to go along with the seafood. The desserts are good, tiramisu definitely one of the better ones I've had. I don't think I've ever had an olive oil cake. The cake itself I thought was a bit dry. Luckily there was plenty of berry syrup and ricotta to moisten it up. Very nice all together in one bite. The meal as a whole was decent, I wasn't particularly wowed by anything but it was solid and would go back if I was craving this kind of cuisine in the area. I recently dined at Bufala in South Vancouver, and while the service was adequate, there seemed to be a clear lack of management oversight. Menu prices priced well, service good, they do try to please customers and thank you for that. I love the design, kitchen open and beautiful, but quality of food is ok. I ordered Rigatoni Bolognese, and I could barely taste or see any meat in the sauce--it felt skimpy and not at all what I expected from an Italian restaurant. To top it off, when I asked for some Parmesan cheese to grate over my pasta, it took about five minutes to arrive, and it came on a tiny saucer. Imagine my surprise when I saw a $2 charge for it on the bill! I've never encountered an extra fee for a basic condiment like grated Parmesan in any restaurant before, especially for such a small amount. Overall, it's just my experience. read more

My hubs and I were craving for pasta, so decided to give Bufala a try. I was delighted to find out they have all day HH on Mondays and Tuesdays. We ordered a glass of house red, a hot toddy, a kale Caesar salad, bolognese rigatoni and truffle short rib pappardelle. I asked if bartender can make hot toddy, at first the server said no, but she asked the bartender and he said yes. It was more acidic than the other ones I drank, perhaps it needs more honey and also lack the cinnamon or cloves. The kale Caesar salad was very good, well seasoned and mixed with flavorful anchovies, bacon crumbs and panko for the crispy texture. The two pastas, Rigatoni Bolognese and Truffle short rib pappardelle, were both cooked to al dente. Sauce is thick and delicious, and both dishes were piping hot. The server surprisingly did not come to check on us how we like the pasta and whether it was up to our standards. But other than the lack of attentiveness, truly all the food was good. We were too full to try dessert, but I look forward to try that next time. read more

I'm not sure how long this wonderful Italian restaurant has been open but we just discovered it over the Canada Day weekend. We love Italian food but have to be careful as my husband is unfortunately for him extremely allergic to cheese. Often this can limit or leave no choices as many places put cheese into everything (although that isn't the case with my half Northern Italian family or in Italy). Happily not only was the food wonderful they had options that could be made without cheese. The server was excellent and the decor is lovely. We felt welcome and appreciated at all times during our meal. The rigatoni bolognese was delicious and featured their truly outstanding meatballs broken up in the fresh and flavourful sauce. My husband had a stone oven pizza (no cheese, extra sauce) and he loved it and I thought it looked delicious. Looking forward to trying one with cheese on our next visit if I can resist having the rigatoni again. Too full for dessert but it looked very good. Highly recommend. read more

I eagerly anticipated the opening of Bufala River District and waited patiently for about two months to ensure all the processes were smooth. However, upon visiting, I should have waited longer. On a Friday evening, my friends and I arrived for an early seating. The friendly and warm hostess welcomed us to a gorgeous and STUNNING space that has major potential for filming and high-end private events. Our server, who never introduced herself, struggled from the start, Our server (who never introduced herself), never pointed out the "specials menu", was unable to assist with wine selections, unsure of menu substitutions etc. Mid way though service she seemed to have abandoned us and two other servers helped us get things that she had forgotten. The food was disappointing compared to the West Van and Kerrisdale locations. -Crispy Potatoes resembled charred hash browns. -Garlic Prawns lacked the taste of Calabrian Chili. -Kale Caesar Salad was average, lacking dressing and flavor with an excess of breadcrumbs. -Farfalle Boscaiola was extremely salty and lacked truffle flavor. -Braised Short Rib, however, was remarkably tender and delicious. In all honesty I do not think I will go back, which is such a shame as it's right down the street from me. Do NOT go in expecting anything similar to the other 2 Bufala's.
