A few days ago we were stopped to get gas nearby at the Walmart. It was good price per gas buddy. We wanted to grab lunch and were about to check the map but I looked up and saw this place next door. Decided to give it a try. Basically, it was tasty. The cheeseburger was a good drive thru burger, onion rings were good, chocolate milkshake also good. Steak fingers tasty and gravy. The French fries were somehow under cooked even though the food took a while to be ready. Texas toast was very yummy. The staff were friendly. This is definitely a local place and so long as you're not trying to get back on the road of a long drive and you have time to hang out a bit and wait, it's a solid choice. 3 stars for undercooked fries and long wait time. read more

Don't let the outside fool you, SERIOUSLY GREAT BURGERS INSIDE. I should've taken a photo of the food, I will next time because the food is seriously great. I had a jalapeño cheeseburger and it came with lettuce, tomato, pickles and you can add your condiments and it was delicious, the burger itself was cooked perfectly, had great texture and flavor! I also ordered curly fries which were cooked to order and they were also awesome! Good with and without ketchup. Really great texture, crunchy on the outside and soft inside. I took my order to go, but they made a great effort to make sure I had salt, pepper, ketchup and napkins without asking. Really, really great place and definitely going to be my lunch stop every time I go to Fort Stockton. No doubt they have a fantastic menu. read more

Food takes awhile to get but it sure was delicious. Highly recommend this place. I had the green chili cheese burger with bacon, I really liked that it was sliced and not diced from a can which tends to dig up the bun. Will definitely stop again when passing thru fort Stockton. read more

I decided to go to Howard's instead of McDonald's while driving from El Paso to San Antonio. It was a long drive and we needed to stop. Howard's is next to Walmart (couldn't find a Kohl's). It is a very small burger joint with a few tables. They had a few flies, but, what restaurant in the middle of the desert doesn't? Their burgers were okay. They cook it when you order it. I told our cashier that we were in a rush, she told me that she would go in back to help her coworker cook it. The double burger I ordered was okay. There was nothing fancy in it. My daughter liked her cheeseburger. It's an okay place. They might not be as fast as McDonald's, but, they have a decent burger. They are A-OK in my book. read more

We got the chicken strip dinner and steak finger dinner. We chose to substitute the coleslaw for extra gravy. The portions were really big. Everything was hand battered there. For my taste it needed more salt but that's easy to rectify. I also like my fries more crispy so next time I will order them well done. The meat was cooked perfectly. Prices were great. I would give less stars if I could. Very unfriendly. We ordered at counter. She hardly spoke to us. No greeting. No small talk. The place was not packed. Only 1 table out of about 6-7 had people seated. We chose a table. And sat in ripped up chairs. I only saw one chair in the whole place that didn't look like it lost the cat fight. Anyway, about 5 minutes later, she just plopped our drinks on the counter and walked back to the kitchen. Didn't wave to let us know. Didn't call out a number. The little lady customer told us that was probably our drinks since she already had her drink and meal. A tray of food was put on the counter. Instead of waving us over, she begin speaking to two others who were at the counter. Our food sat at the counter. And sat. And sat. Finally, I just figured we were eating whosever it was. I was hungry. My grilled chicken salad was lettuce, cheese, and well, grilled chicken. With a packet of Ranch dressing stick in the lettuce. Didn't ask for Ranch. Wasn't offered anything else. But Ranch is what she decided I wanted apparently. His burger was a burger. Nothing fancy. His onion rings were basically more crusty ring than onion. From old, old grease. Writing this review was more enjoyable than the meal. Wanna waste your money and time? Run to this place. Wanna be treated rudely as you fork your money over? Run to this place. We walked into Howard's at 7 pm and overheard an older gentleman working in the back say," that's about right. Just as you start cleaning the kitchen, that's when they show up." The restaurant is open until 9 PM. Needless to say, he didn't think we heard him. Once we told him he could go ahead and keep his kitchen clean, we will take our business elsewhere, he kept saying oh no no no. But too late. That's rude. Good frozen burgers but they really ripped us off. Be sure to look at your itemized receipt. They'll charge you beyond whats on their menu if you are not local. Just dishonest business practices. We paid $24.00 for two burgers, crappy fried chicken and tea. There were no fries either. read more

This is a fabulous burger off the I-10 in Fort Stockton. Not sure what the other posters' burger palates might be, but this palate was certainly happy to have ignored the previous reviews . This place has been going since 1964, was full of locals, and the flavor couldn't be beat. The fries weren't exceptional but the burger makes up for that. read more

I didn't want to wait for them to cook those so I ate the fries. They make up for it by serving a less than mediocre hamburger and overcooked fries. I would prefer McDonald's, BK, or any fast food to this. The tea was undrinkable. At least the staff wasn't rude, but they weren't friendly either. It's not too far from the interstate 10 so it's convenient when traveling. I had the green chile cheese burger and my children had plain cheese burgers. It was flavorful and fresh. The patties weren't the leanest but were tasty. It's a good value especially consider the options.....Dairy Queen, McDonald's, Burger King, etc. read more

It's a very small, tight place and the prices are decent but the food is subpar. Very few places in Fort Stockton but defiantly avoid this one. This is a great place if you are in a rush. The food tasted great. My wife and I both had bacon cheeseburgers. Our daughter had the grilled cheese. None of us had any complaints. The fries were hot and crispy, without being too greasy. The staff was very friendly. Since I don't live here I cant give a fair overall rating. I'm sure locals can do a better job. Suffice it to say it is conveniently located off of I-10 and not horrible-except for the inedible Frito Pie. Being right next to the Holiday Inn Express made it an easy choice after a long drive. My double meat cheeseburger wasn't bad but the bun was a bit soggy and hard to hold together.
