This place was a delightful surprise! We were at an event at Spring Hill High School and I have seen their Facebook page pop in on a few of our community groups so we decided to finally give it a try. Inside is fairly small but still plenty of sitting for a small group or large group of 7-8. You order and pay at the counter and they bring your food to you. We ordered the Tumbleweeds for our starter which is thinly sliced fried onions served with their barbecue ranch. It's so good and perfectly cooked. I prefer the thin cut onion rings so I was devouring them. Our mains were the Rango and Smothered Burrito. The Rango is chopped brisket sandwich which was so good and the fries were great too. The rice that came with the Smothered Burrito was great and flavorful, I loved the burrito as well. We finished off our meal with banana pudding and rolled out there because we were so full. Great little spot for quality food. The place isn't fancy but the food is crafted with care. I had the fajita tacos. Grilled chicken with fajita vegetables and a side plate of fixins. Fresh grated cheese, pico, guac, sour cream and lettuce. The flour tortillas were amazingly soft yet strong enough to hold all the ingredients without falling apart. The flavor was superb. Sometimes with these dishes, the vegetables are over cooked and the chicken is dry, but not here. All the flavors are combined for a delicious fiesta on the tongue. The rice and pintos are also really tasty. Since the restaurant also serves barbecue, there's a hint of that in the pintos. The rice is also unique. It's has a peppery flavor that I found complimented the rest of everything on the plate. Off the beaten path, but well worth a visit. Quality food, quality ingredients and friendly staff. As this place is only 4 minutes from my house, I'll definitely be going back. Give this place a try. read more

Really solid scratch made food. Loved the queso, guacamole and Texas fries. Really liked the birria quesadilla tacos and the The Brick tacos (more BLT than taco but good). The salsa and jalapeño ranch were good. Cute decor in a small space with limited seating. Will definitely return. Some people don't like the kiosk order but it didn't bother me. My wife and I met friends here for dinner one night and were blown away. At first, we were taken aback ... it's in commercial a strip mall and doesn't look like much. Then we walked in, and while it smelled good, to me it smelled more like a BBQ place than Tex Mex. We quickly learned not to let those impressions fool us... the food was incredibly good - full of flavor, and with Goldilocks and the Three Bears portions: not too big, not too small... just right. Other big plusses was that everything on the menu was reasonably priced, the staff was friendly, and the service was quick. The only thing that caught us off guard is that they aren't open on weekends. Being as it's 80 miles from where we live, it's going to make it hard to go back... and that's a shame because we really liked it and would love to show our support by going often. But if you live close to Columbia, TN or are just traveling through on any weekday but Monday, give Peppercorn Scratch Kitchen a try. I think you'll be glad you did. read more

Small spot with delicious food! Order at one of the kiosks and your food is made to order by very friendly staff. The brisket tacos are so delicious, but be warned the Diablo sauce is as spicy as the name implies! The portions are also very generous, two tacos were more than enough. We've been meaning to eat here for quite a while, not sure what took so long but it was amazing!! So excited to find great Tex-Mex close to home. This is a very small restaurant with very big flavor! My son and I stopped in to try it out after picking him up from school, and although we were surprised that it was primarily barbecue (when I think scratch kitchen I think of southern comfort food for some reason) , it was flavorful and well portioned. I had the Rango (brisket sandwich) and my son had the Carolina (pork sandwich). The meats were tender with just the right amount of smoke, and they were too large to finish in one sitting, so yay leftovers! Being from Texas, I was very skeptical coming here claiming the Tex-Mex title on a portion of the menu. That said, we found this little gem VERY tasty and will certainly be back! We typically go to Franklin for our Tex-Mex needs, but our tummies are satisfied! What a delightful find...and it did take me a bit to find in its strip of other businesses...but very much worth it. I had a Baja Bowl , which came on a plate, and thus surprised me. The food was fresh, good quality and seasoned nicely. The seating area was small but the majority of customers were picking up rather than dining in so it was a nice place to catch up with a friend. Next time I venture South to Columbia, TN. , I will try something different at Peppercorn Scratch. Perhaps their family taco kit to go would make an easy weeknight meal. read more

The food here is delicious. In a little strip and not a lot of space, but don't let that fool you. Sandwiches are top tier, can't wait to have some more of that brisket. We live right down the street from Peppeecorn which was nice to see because unless we go into Spring Hill or Columbia our only other choice is Burger King or Embers. The first time my wife and I went there I ordered the brisket Philly with tumbleweeds and she ordered hard shell tacos for some reason lol. My sandwich wasn't too bad, just a little dry, I was expecting some sauce on it or maybe a lot of cheese, so I asked for some BBQ sauce which made it pretty good. My wife wasn't impressed with the tacos, but the tumbleweeds were tasty. The second time I ordered takeout for myself, I ordered their wings, there are no good wing places here in Spring Hill or Columbia, and since they're a BBQ place I figured they couldn't do worst. Their smoked Buffalo wings are really good, as are their french fries. I've also ordered their chicken strips, and the Carolina sandwich which were both good as well. All in all, the staff is nice, the food is prepared quickly, most things I've tried are good, other than a couple menu items that seemed either basic or bland, but the location makes peppercorn very convenient and preferable over the alternatives especially. I hope they add more or new menu items in the future, but definitely worth a shot if you are in the area. read more

Wanted to like this place, but the food was just so bland, especially the beans, and they're going with a self service system that doesn't really work because half of what you need isn't out there for you to get yourself, like hot sauce or to go boxes or appetizer share plates or just things you need to dine in at a restaurant so it doesn't really make sense to sit and eat there, because you have to go up to the kitchen every time you need something and ask for every little thing. We were a party of 7, and everyone felt the same about their food, just meh, and nothing came out hot at all. Overall seems like just a whitewashed Tex Mex with no service, wouldn't go back honestly. read more

Absolutely loved this place! Saw it while driving on Nashville Hwy and decided to try it. We got the Frank the Tank burrito, Pepe Silvia sandwich and the tres leches cake for dessert. Everything was so good, the service was great and their complimentary chips and salsa were delicious. Loved the Sanchez rice. My husband had the Rango minus the Blanco sauce. The brisket was tender with just the right amount of smoke. His fries were good, but needed to be crispy.
