We joined some good friends we hadn't seen for awhile for dinner at Peppervine one weekday night. I hadn't been to the Piedmont Row area since before the pandemic. It used to be such a happening place. I wasn't surprised that so many restaurant locations were vacant or been replaced, but I feel like they were slowly dwindling before the pandemic. When I was last at Peppervine, it was a restaurant called AZN. I was very surprised (and pleased) at how busy Peppervine was for a weekday night. To start, I ordered the Tongue Thai'd cocktail, which contained vodka, my liquor of choice. We then ordered several small plates to share with the table that I can't even remember them all, but they were all delicious. For my entree, I ordered the swordfish, which was perfectly cooked and so juicy and flavorful. We shared the zeppole doughnuts and fall cheesecake for dessert. Again, so rich and delightful. It was all a bit pricey, but an excellent splurge. Our server was fantastic -- informative and attentive. He helped make an exceptional experience even better. read more

Well done, Peppervine! In an upcoming food city, the competition is fierce and Peppervine has stepped up! From the moment I walked in, I knew the details were not forgotten in developing their concept. The ambiance is beautiful and serene. A place you want to come for a drink or linger post dining. Beautiful art, light fixtures, etc. & with the high ceilings, the volume was still quiet. My only recommendation is moving your paper rating from the table right by the hostess- not sure regulation of location but maybe by bar? Our group of four were met with a smile and didn't mind the few minutes my husband lagged behind. We were sat promptly at our reservation time. Our server was friendly and very knowledgeable about the menu. The bar had only one non-alcoholic beer (both the husbands requested) so I'd recommend they stock up a bit. Minor request. Our plates were quickly taken once done but never rushed. When we left to go, people were enjoying cocktails behind us upstairs in comfy chairs and I didn't even know- another acoustic thumbs up. I loved the simplicity of the menu and how it went from light to heavy. Our group started with the pimento cheese scones (they're baked to order) and the pepper jelly gave the perfect sweet/spicy accompaniment to the scones - which could have stood alone. The squid ink bucatini with octopus, tuna tartare, and mussels came out beautifully but also had flavor nuances indicative of creativity and maturity in the kitchen. I've included a picture of another's main plate he said was wonderful. We women shared two desserts- how could we not based on the rest of our meal? Both delicious but I would pick the vanilla cream cake over the peach dumpling if I had to choose. Espresso was told to me delicious for one of the guys who passed (is he crazy?!) on dessert. This was my second trip to Peppervine and it was just as delicious as my first trip! First of all the restaurant is beautiful. I came for an early birthday celebration dinner and I was not disappointed. I started my meal with a mocktail, which was a less spicy version of their margarita as suggested by our server. We then started off with an order of the yeast rolls- delicious, warm, and just the right amount of salt, but the butter-- omg! For my entree I decided upon the lumache pasta. The pasta was the perfect serving size and the flavor was light, but buttery. The end of my meal I was presented with the cutest little piece of key lime pie adorned with a single candle- perfect and so flavorful! I would love to see it added to the dessert menu! I came here to celebrate my brother's birthday and was not disappointed. The restaurant is beautifully decorated and even when full feels intimate. We were sat at a booth and were able to see directly into the kitchen which was really cool! Our server was great and thankfully explained to us that the plates are designed to be shared between 2 or 3 people. We were a group of 5 which allowed us to taste multiple of the small plates. You really can't go wrong when ordering. We had the pimiento cheese scones and yeast rolls first. The scones came with butter, a cinnamon butter and a pepper jelly. All of which paired very well with the scones. The yeast rolls were salted on top and were super good but very hot. Next we had the cauliflower which was excellently seasoned and had a little cheese which made it nice and soft. We also got the oysters, pork belly and the tuna tar tar. The tuna was definitely a favorite. For large plates we got the boar bolognese which was my favorite. The sauce was a bit sweet which complemented with the savory meat. We also got the short rib which was spicier than I expected. The dish was a ramen soup which was challenging to share considering we all had plates. For dessert we got the doughnuts which were crispy on the outside but soft inside. The blueberry compote was good but I could do without the chocolate sauce. The lemon tart was to die for. The crust of the tart reminded me of one that is typically of a key lime pie and it soaked up the flavors really well. I'd definitely recommend checking this place out if you're looking for a fancy meal! The only negative I could find was that the wine menu on the iPad was somewhat tricky to navigate. read more

I'll keep this review short. Came here to celebrate my husbands birthday and the experience was so underwhelming. We ordered cocktails and an appetizer to start. Our appetizer came out but no cocktails. Had to remind the waiter who seemed distracted. After reminding him about our cocktails, we went ahead and ordered our entrees. I order a glass of white wine and specifically asked for it to be brought out when dinner comes. That did not happen either. *deep sigh* Husband ordered the short rib and it came out in soup form. Nowhere in the description did it say soup. It was like Pho. He was so mad. Oh and I finally got my wine halfway through my dinner. Smh. You just have high expectations because of where it's located ans seeing all of other reviews. The vibe was hotel lobby restaurant to me and all "smoke and mirrors" For the price...you are paying....I expected more. read more

Last night we ate here and were disappointed. I ordered the shortribs and the kale salad. Both had wonderful flavor and presentation but there were two problems, which are unforgivable at this price point. The items accompanying the beef (broccolini, etc) were intensely salty, so salty it made my tongue sting and I couldn't finish them. The other problem was with the kale salad which was gritty; apparently it had not been washed thoroughly and still contained bits of sand or dirt. Few things are less appealing to me than grinding grit between my teeth when eating. We have eaten here before, as have several friends, and all have had really good experiences. I hate to have to tell them that carelessness seems to be ruining the food. Next time we are looking for a nice meal, I'm afraid we'll have to go somewhere else. read more

Our server asked if we had dined with them before and when we told her no - she was very detailed with her information that we needed. My main takeaway was the plates were meant for sharing and she recommended two - three plates per person. Let's talk booze. I normally keep my drinks very simple - Tito's with soda and two limes. But for whatever reason - their drink menu spoke to me and I ordered a Tongue Tai'd. It was refreshing, crisp, sweet and smooth all at the same time. It was perfectly balanced and one of the best cocktails I have had in a very long time. And now for the food - we definitely took our servers advice and ordered lots of food. Yeast rolls - amazing. Hand downs needs to be a part of everyone's meal. The were pillows of bread I could not stop eating. 10/5 Pimento Cheese Scones - I wasn't sure what to expect but these babies were delicious too! Tender, soft and packed full of flavor. 5/5 Lucky for us - they added pupusas to their menu. She told us that one of the ladies in the kitchen used to make them for the staff meals and they decided to make a version to put on the menu. I wanted to take a dozen pupusas to go. They reminded me something you would find in your best friend's mom's kitchen but with a fancy upgrade. These do not disappoint and I hope they stay on the menu. 5/5 Thai "Fried Chicken" - bite sized pieces of perfectly juicy fried chicken served on a papaya salad. The papaya salad had the traditional Thai papaya salad flavors without being to overpowering and was the perfect accompaniment to the chicken. 5/5 Pork Belly with Kimchi Risotto. I took my first bite and smiled. I mean holy cow - this plate here was hands down my favorite of the evening. We literally cleaned this bowl clean. 10/5 I can't remember the exact name of the scallop dish we had but again - I can't complain about anything on this dish. The scallops were cooked exceptionally and all the pieces to the dish completely complimented each other. 5/5 Squid Ink Buccatini with Octopus. This dish is a stunning beauty when they put it on your table. It's full of color despite the blank ink pasta. And as beautiful as it was - it was just as delicious. That tomato sauce was impeccable and to die for. My 2nd favorite plate of the night. 5/5 Of course we had to save room for dessert. I ordered an espresso and was delighted at how smooth but bold the coffee was. I was so impressed I had to find out what toast they use. For dessert we shared the chocolate mousse with coffee ice cream. This dessert was far from overly sweet but still just sweet enough. It was the perfect ending to perfect meal. I'll admit this place is fancy. And I wasn't sure if I would fit in but I felt just as comfortable as I could be. But this is a dining experience that everyone needs to do. Heed the advice of my server, order multiple plates and share the food. If you come and order one small plate for yourself - you're going to leave hungry. Consistently good!! There are only a few places you can walk in with confidence expecting a stellar meal and service, every time. Peppervine is that place for me. From date night to large group meals, I have never been disappointed with my experience. They have a great selection of wines, but their cocktails are equally good! The scones and hot roles remain a favorite even after all these years. Their menu is updated seasonally, and every new item is just as good or better than what it replaced. I'm a fan of the mussels and octopus appetizers, as well as their salads. I usually opt for the special of the day, but if not, then one of their fish entrees is my go-to. Peppervine is one of those locations in Charlotte that is a true gem. You have to experience the atmosphere combined with great service and exceptional food! It is easily one of my favorite restaurants of all time in Charlotte now. We went for a birthday celebration and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. I highly recommend this place for any type of celebration or if you just want to have a really nice and fairly affordable dinner. We got the cast iron rolls and I didn't know rolls could taste that good. It was just something about how hot , juicy and buttery the rolls were that left my mouth just wanting more and more. We also order the pimento cheese biscuits which were just as good. I recommend about two entrees as we order three and it was plenty. We ordered the fish and grits, springer chicken and shrimp linguine.The springer chicken was by far our favorite and some of the most juicy and flavorful chicken I've ever had at a restaurant. The awesome presentation is just a bonus! Because it was a celebration for her birthday we were given free champagne and we knew we just had to order a dessert. That dessert was phenomenal. I just can't explain to you I'm not a dessert person but coming here made me want to become a dessert person. Beautiful restaurant with great service. Our waiter started out with telling us that although they plate like tapas style they also do coursing specified by what you order. I personally like things to come out whenever they're ready and in no particular order and although the waiter did a good job of organizing which dish would come out first to last, it did take a lot longer for our food to come out. Our first course was the pork belly and I was highly disappointed. The description was pork belly with corn pudding and a black eyed pea vinaigrette. The pork belly had this charred taste and that's about all it tasted like was just smokey like American bbq. Paired with the black eyed pea vinaigrette it really reminded me of going to an American bbq restaurant and getting bbq and coleslaw, but the the corn purée just didn't go with the rest of the dish at all. This was my least favorite. Second course was Monkfish bouillabaisse. This was absolutely delicious and it had this nice seafood aroma right when it hit the table. The fish and mussels were cooked perfectly and our only complaint was that there wasn't more broth! We could've ate that all night. Third course was the thai pork spare ribs and the 24 hour Szechuan short rib. I was once again disappointed, this time with the thai pork spare ribs. To me there was no taste of thai food with the ribs and it was served with a papaya salad but not a traditional one. It was more of a lettuce salad with pieces of papaya in it. I think I wouldn't have been so harsh with it if they hadn't put "Thai" in there, but since they did I was expecting a lot more Thai flavor. The short ribs were SO good. Beef was perfectly juicy and tender, it almost reminded me of duck it was just that soft. The sauce that came with it had a good kimchi kick to it and it was served with vermicelli rice noodles and almost reminded me of a take on Korean bibimguksu. read more

Sadly I do not have photos of this experience. We had dinner reservations on a Saturday night at 7:15. The vibe was nice and our server was so kind and attentive. We ordered several things to share: both yeast rolls and pimento cheese scones (definitely take these to go if there's some left), butternut squash soup, general Tsos cauliflower, and Thai ribs. We were looking for a spot for a date night, and came in hoping to get a table without a reservation. The hostess worked with us and we were able to dine outside (it was still warm at the time.) The service was fantastic, from the waiter to the sommelier who helped us pick the perfect bottle. We tried numerous things on the menu, yeast rolls, scallops, pappardelle, Thai spare ribs, salad, and dessert. Everything is a small plate made to share. Everything was delicious and I couldn't pick a favorite. The yeast rolls are an absolute must though, the softest ones I've ever had served with butter and finished with salt. The ambience was stunning, our server went above and beyond, my water glass was never empty and I need a whole new paragraph about the food! We had all 3 starters and the pimento cheese scones were my favorite! Served warm and soft along with 3 butters. For a small plate option, my husband ordered the Spanish Octopus and it was so flavorful it almost melted in your mouth! For my entree I devoured the Chicken co que vine and my husband had the steak. This place was wonderful, we went there for an anniversary date and this place had a wonderful ambience, service and food! We were abit apprehensive to go for indoor dining but we were pleasantly surprised how the spacious, spread out the seats were and all the waiters were wearing masks. The food was truly delight, we shared all the plates between two of us. We started off the the pimento scones which almost melted in your mouth and the yellowfin tuna tartare. The kudzu burger was surprisingly different from most burgers we've had, lots of flavor and came with a large side of fries. Our favorite was the 48 hour short rib pastrami (not pictured), it was so delicious I forgot to take a picture. It definitely delighted the taste buds with its unique and delicious flavor and melted in your mouth. For dessert we had the doughnuts which was warm and gooey. Drinks wise, I had the pepper one old fashioned which was strong but really good as well. We were also pleasantly surprised with an anniversary treat, it was a nice touch. If you want a romantic setting for a nice date or special occasion, this place definitely delivers. I would highly recommend this place! I mean...best restaurant in Charlotte. Absolutely impeccable and the closest thing to Michelin star fine dining that we have in Charlotte. We wanted to order pretty much the whole menu (for two, clearly knowing it would be too much but we didn't realize just HOW MUCH). We were advised to keep it to a max of 6 plates for 2. My boyfriend and I went here to celebrate Valentine's day. The best tapas place me and my boyfriend have been to in a long time and we've been to many. Here's a list of what we ordered. 1. Yeast rolls 2. Spanish Octopus 3. NC Flounder 4. Boar Bolognese Out of these 4, I love the boar Bolognese and the yeast rolls (fresh out of the oven). I'd perhaps try something else instead of the flounder. Octopus was great but I didn't care for the spaghetti squash. That's just personal preference. The inside of the restaurant exudes class and finesse so if you perhaps visit, you better be wearing something dressy. Lots of people refilling your drinks every 5 minutes. It's great! There is no exaggeration when I say that this restaurant may be the best experience I've had while dining, ever. I took my boyfriend here for our anniversary and was surprised right off the bat by how polished and thoughtful the service was--they had even made note of our anniversary! The staff were all so knowledgeable, well-coordinated, and personable. The entire establishment worked like a well-oiled machine. Our server ensured that each dish we ordered arrived in a specific order, properly coursed (with explanation) and that was an element of thorough planning that I had never experienced even at previous fine-dining restaurants before. I also appreciated how plates and utensils were refreshed after each course, so that the flavors of each dish could stand out on their own. And speaking of the dishes--Peppervine should be the gold standard for what contemporary American cuisine is. The menu is comprised of innovative and unique combinations of cultural flavors and cooking techniques that all come together in dishes that taste like nothing you've had before. We ordered the asparagus (unfortunately not pictured because we were too excited to take a photo before digging in) and the citrus notes and pickled onions made it so delicious, which is high praise from a person who normally hates asparagus. My boyfriend, a vehement onion-hater, also happily finished off the pickled onions left on the plate. We also ordered the elote cauliflower (one of the dishes that specifically attracted me to this restaurant), which was a mind blowing experience. The creaminess of the sauce paired with the tangy spices (offering depth of flavor but not heat) was perfect. I'm honestly still thinking about it to this day. The last shareable plate we ordered (it was so so hard to choose) was the octopus. The octopus was my boyfriend's favorite of the night--the meat was cooked so beautifully! I have never eaten octopus that was so tender and delicate in flavor (the ginger and kimchi were wonderful additions). The octopus also came with a nicely poached egg (similar to Japanese onsen eggs) that the server informed us was meant to be broken over the rice and octopus and mixed together to create a creamier texture (which was a delight!). The fried rice was also such a surprising element--the 'rice' is actually cauliflower, and as a Chinese person, I am always very skeptical of any rice alternatives, but Peppervine once again changed my mind. The riced cauliflower was cut to have a texture more similar to basmati or long-grain jasmine rice as opposed to the poor imitation cubed rice that I had experienced before, so the texture was uncannily similar to that of real rice (I didn't miss real rice one bit). Okay, on to the main courses. My boyfriend ordered the mushroom and sausage conchiglioni pasta (stuffed pasta shells). And once again, Peppervine made me fall in love with a food I historically have despised--mushrooms. The pasta was covered in a lovely bechamel sauce, which you would think would make the dish overly rich, but the sharp, tangy flavors of the sausage-mushroom filling cut through and balanced the creaminess of the bechamel. Truly, that pasta lives in my dreams still. For my main, I also ordered a pasta dish--the citrus-truffle lumache with shrimp. Now, I am a firm believer that seafood and citrus belong together, and naturally Peppervine knocked it out of the park. The texture of the pasta was also perfectly al dente, and had the kind of delightful bite to it that you only really get with handmade pastas. Word of caution, though--the truffle-butter sauce is a cream-based sauce (which I did not realize), so lactose intolerant folks be aware (it didn't stop me from thoroughly enjoying the dish, though--the consequences were well worth it). Finally, Peppervine capped off the magical night with a complementary dessert as an anniversary gift. The little keylime tart was so delicious--the perfect sweet and buttery bite after a delicious and filling dinner. Overall, I cannot say enough good things about Peppervine, and my boyfriend has offered that we drive the four and a half hours from Richmond just to experience this restaurant again. So thank you, Peppervine, for making our anniversary trip so memorable! (But curse you as well for setting the bar so high for restaurants from now on!) read more

I have been waiting to check this place for the longest. Finally made my way here and it was definitely amazing. Service, food, atmosphere everything was fantastic. We had a reservation which I would recommend since we got there and got sat promptly. You can definitely walk in and wait for a while, but you can do that if you are in the neighborhood. They have a great wine selection, but we went for our anniversary and brought a special bottle. We purchased a good amount of bottles in Napa and wanted to drink one of them for the special occasion. They charge you a $30 corkage fee. I feel it's a great deal if you have a great bottle of wine you've been wanting to pair with good food! The menu is small but mighty. Its a must to get the yeast rolls and the pimento cheese scones. They were fantastic!! We also got the muscles and then each got on entree. It was enough food and we still had room for desert. Our waiter really made the experience worth it. He made sure we were taken care off, but not being a bother. He gave us great recommendations on the amount of dishes to order to make sure we had enough. I can't wait to come back to this restaurant. Everything about it was fabulous! The menu has some unique options and the drinks, salads, and entrees we had were all very good. The service was quick and the waiter made a couple recommendations of things to try. My girlfriend and I booked reservations here for our 2-year anniversary and it was phenomenal! Our service was wonderful throughout the entire meal and all of the food was delicious. We started with an order of yeast rolls and the scones since we couldn't decide between both. They are made to order which showed in their fluffy goodness. Our server explained that the small plates aren't always small so he told us to order what we'd like and he'd direct us if he thought it was too small or large of an order which I totally appreciated. We decided on the Mussels, Sichuan pork belly, Pappadelle Carbonara and the Korean Short Rib. I'm glad we got the pictures before we devoured all the food. Everything was perfect and came out at the perfect times. hey even gave us some pieces of chocolate truffles and some champagne for our anniversary which was a super nice touch to a fantastic evening! Peppervine is located in the SouthPark area, and customers can park for free in the parking deck near by. I love the decorations of this place, but the food is overrated. I don't think the yeast rolls are all that. They were good the first time I was there - but I wouldn't say that it was better than the free bread at Longhorn steakhouse- and they were very bland the second time. Like as though it was missing sugar or an ingredient. Food quality is not consistent. Some was good, and some was boring, salty, or not impressive. Like the famous squid ink pasta, it was very soft the fist time, but was good the second time. The beet salad was the most expensive salad I have ever had and nothing special. Definitely not worth it. I didn't share my experience both times with the restaurant because the food portion is very small and I usually don't complain when it is already more than 30% eaten. read more

Quickly raising to the top of my culinary stops in Charlotte, Peppervine is the perfect place for a special occasion, a fancy night out... or a random weekday when you want to feel like you're ballin' Tall-cotton is southern slang to describe the experience. The decor is modern and simple and the execution lives up to most expectations. The service is very good... the servers are very knowledgeable about the menu and can direct you one way or another depending on your preference. The menu is divided into small plates and entrees. I would recommend you share a few small plates to try a bit of everything and get an entree only if it really something you want. The best way to experience Peppervine is to engulf yourself if the myriad of sharable dishes. However, before you start with anything, please do yourself a favor and get the yeast rolls. They are delicious and will be a nice base for the rest of the meal. The only ding I have with the menu is their wine list: it's extensive, but you'll probably need an expense account to enjoy a nice bottle. The menu changes seasonally, so check with your server on what's new and popular. I'm a fan of the beets and cauliflower (weird I know... ). We love Artisinal, Peppervine's sister restaurant in Banner Elk, so we had high hopes for Peppervine -- we weren't disappointed! The decor is modern with a wooden abstract piece of art at the center; clearly a homage to the horse atArtisinal. I was slightly disappointed to see two TVs behind the bar; it certainly cheapened the image a little. The food was magnificent, as was the service. We started with the pimento cheese scones and pepper jelly; one of our favorites from Artisinal. The roasted beets had great flavors and texture. We then moved on to Tete de cochon at the recommendation of our server. I've never had Tete de cochon before but it was full of flavor and accompanied by a deviled eggs salad that really popped. For our main courses we had the Korean beef rib and the chicken gnudi. Both dishes had amazing flavors. Considering the quality of the food the prices seemed reasonable. For the two of us, including beer, wine and tip the bill came to just under $200. I really want to give Peppervine six stars - it's an instant favorite! read more

First time attending Peppervine - what an experience. From the moment we walked in, until the moment we walked out we were met with nothing but phenomenal service. Hope was our server and she was very attentive, kind and patient with us, as it was our first visit. The menu had plenty to try and the portions were great to share. Our favorite item had to be the Yeast Rolls - soft, warm and so flavorful. In addition, our intention for the dinner was to celebrate a birthday and we were met with complimentary Champagne and key lime pie. The overall experience was 10/10. Beautiful decor and ambiance. Our server was great. Food was also great! We enjoyed the scones, yeast rolls, smoked octopus, cauliflower, short ribs, and doughnuts. Lamb pasta wasn't my favorite flavor profile but very well cooked! Scones were a must try! Would go back! read more
