Brick Oven Mac & Cheese
Vy H.

Was excited to try here for Saturday lunch since lots of the locals raved about this place. Overall food was okay but service could be improved. Our server Wes was friendly but overwhelmed with too many tables so he was busy running around. Cocktails took a long time to come out, even arrived after our appetizer--second round of drinks took a while too. Started off with the Roasted Poblano Pimento Cheese. Shrimp & Grits was delicious, well flavored, and Pecan Fried Catfish was tasty but lacked the cilantro-lime butter so we had to ask for more. Most disappointing dish was the Jambalaya--looked quite appetizing but was super bland, had no bold, smoky or savory flavor to it at all. Sides of Brick Oven Mac & Cheese and Brick Oven Beets were good.

My wife and I visited this restaurant Saturday afternoon for lunch. She ordered the Shrimp and Grits and I had the Baked Salmon over Succotash. The food was very good and Daniel (our waiter) was very friendly and knowledgeable. We'll definitely be back.

Food was good! Drink menu had some fun drinks. Little pricey ! Had a drink and a salad and it was $46 with a proper tip.

Waited to be seated for at least 10 min. There was nobody at the Hostess Stand at lunch time 12:48 pm. Servers walked past us but never acknowledged us. We told the Server we were in a hurry but the pace of the restaurant is slower than a sloth. We ordered drinks that came after our app. Drinks (mango mojito) were good but pimento cheese app was definitely not pimento cheese although the bread was fresh and served warm. The oyster po' boy was cooked perfectly, the salad & soup combo were good. The restaurant was not busy but a couple birthday parties made it a little lively. After bringing our check the Server never returned to check on us or ask if we needed anything knowing one individual was staying to finish their meal. Disappointed on the long wait and slow pace.

This is a restaurant specializing in Southern-American foods...so I thought my husband would love it. It was ideally located at Phillips Place with easy parking...and we slid into our booth (VERY comfy, must say!) right away. The place was much more casual than I had thought...and it featured a huge, round bar area, which dominated the restaurant. Still, it had a very comfy, inviting vibe...with a definitive rustic vibe. I decided to try their Fried Catfish...and my husband tried their Brick Oven Rotisserie Chicken. We also shared a French Onion Soup. For drinks, I tried this Coconut flavored Mojito (forgot the exact name), and it was stellar...and SO strong! First of all, I loved the complimentary corn bread....possibly the best corn bread I've ever had. I normally don't like corn breads at all, but this was truly delish. The French Onion was also really good...but the presentation was terrible, and the cheese was somewhat hard to scoop up. I love it when they layer the cheese over the bowl or cup, in a puff pastry format. Nothing like that here....but again, the flavor was good. Now there were parts that really weren't good. We couldn't tell if it was the fault of the waiter or the chef, but our entrees took forever to be delivered...and when it did (after my husband having to flag down our fairly aloof waiter), my husband's dish wasn't even warm. Mine was barely warm. I actually thought my dish was really good... Loved the fish, and the mashed potatoes and green beans were cooked perfectly. If only a bit warmer? My husband wasn't that thrilled with his cooled dish. Also, he didn't get the sides that he requested (?!?)...but he didn't bother tagging the waiter for this. Also, I thought they dropped the ball on the theme of the restaurant. While its foods were American-Southern, the theme was all over the place. For one, I had a picture of Bob Dylan over my head (??). Also, at one point, they played Sade on their overhead system. I love Sade, but she is clearly not Southern. So yeah, as much as I liked the cozy ambiance, the theme was all off. Overall, it's a shame that the service-speed of food delivery was so bad. I would have rated this place 4 or 5 stars based on the food (and I'm not even a fan of Southern-American foods!), but several things were off. For one, the slow, cooled delivery of foods. Also, our waiter never apologized, or gave any explanation for the delay. I did feel that maybe they were understaffed for the night. I only saw maybe 2 waiters roaming around...on a Saturday night?? Also again, I feel they needed to work on a more consistent motif-theme of this restaurant. It all kinda felt random. Things were just NOT on point on this night...so 3 stars is the best I can do. I'm definitely willing to give this place another shot...and hoping the cold dishes (slow delivery) were a fluke, and not the norm?

House salad for starters. I feel guilty if I don't have something green with my dinner.

I was staying at the Hilton right next door. So decide to walk over for dinner. I am very glad I did because I had an amazing meal. I was kind of early. So, I may have been the first seated tonight. The staff was friendly and I had a drink almost instantly (Negroni). I ordered a half house salad to start - which was nice, and then the masterpiece, Jambalaya. I make a great Jambalaya, but this one was even better. The flavors were intense, spicy, fresh ingredients. Crawfish, shrimp, sausage. I was in heaven. A piece of cornbread on the side. A nice glass of wine (Juggernaut Cab also amazing). Finished the meal with a cappuccino. I loved my meal and will do it again. It's plenty of food. I finished it, but could have shared with my wife had she been with me.

When I found this restaurant on Yelp, it felt familiar to me. We arrived for brunch and I started with a well-prepared Old Fashioned-type drink, the Southern Sipper. I enjoyed it (5/5)! I ate the cornbread served before lunch as I had not had breakfast (3/5). For my entree, I had to try the Pecan Crusted Catfish. I thought I would have received two pieces but that was not the case. However, it did not disappoint (5/5)! My sides were mashed potatoes (4/5) and sweet potatoes (5/5)! I mistakenly ordered two potatoes; I enjoyed all of the sweet potato hash (5/5). They were not overly sweetened and very satisfying. I tasted the mashed potatoes (5/5). Overall, brunch was excellent. Parking was not an issue. The restaurant was pretty well filled when we left after a great meal and full tummies.

We had a large group for dinner last night while in town. Many of us ordered pecan crusted catfish, two ordered salmon, one ordered country fried steak, and another ordered the burger. We all enjoyed our food, though only one person initially received the lemon citrus sauce for the catfish. The country fried steak was missing the sides initially. It took a while to get the bread before the meals arrived. Some meals took longer to come out than others. They were busy and we were a large group but someone has to check the food before it comes out. Nonetheless, we enjoyed ourself and would come again.

I had a solid dining experience here for breakfast. The service was friendly and efficient. The decor is cozy yet spacious, and the ladies bathroom was very cute. I ordered basic breakfast items, which was average, so I would have to come back to try something more involved to really comment on the flavors. The greens were good and vinegary if that your preference---and the pancakes were solid (thin, but decent). They also have maple syrup which elevates the flavor over regular syrup. One downside is there are no turkey products on the menu for breakfast. The complimentary cornbread was a nice touch, but it wasn't the best. Overall, I would return again to try dinner.

We walked into a comfortable, upscale restaurant with a welcoming team. Each person provided genuine help and offered great smiles. I ordered the short ribs, which were beyond amazing. The flavor of the gravy was rich, the potatoes soft, and the carrots super tender. And the meat was the definition of melt-in-your-mouth! Most importantly, the sweet tea was made correctly, not fake like in so many places. I would come back in a heartbeat!

Checked out the Southern Pecan last night with some friends. The menu is filled with so many delicious options. Our server, Kat, was so knowledgeable and helped us navigate through the various options. Some of the best service I have experienced at a restaurant recently. For our appetizer we shared the deviled eggs along with the complimentary corn bread. We all chose different entrees so we could sample each other's choices. Everything was perfectly prepared and beyond our expectations. I chose the Southern Fried Steak. It was served with mashed potatoes and fresh green beans. The steak was thin and not over breaded, making the dish light tasting. Not pictured-Pecan Catfish and Shrimp and Grits. I don't usually care for fish, but the catfish was delicious! We also liked the sauce on the shrimp and grits! Definitely give them a try!

Sitting in this booth, with our bellies stuffed, grateful for such wonderful places to eat as this. Super friendly staff, relaxing but upbeat atmosphere. The food is amazing. Huge catfish fan and the pecan crusted catfish did not disappoint! Very light, crispy and delicious flavor. My wife got the blackened red fish and it was such as delicious. Overall a great experience and would highly recommend it if you're not from here and looking for great food!!

Casual with a touch of class! Sat at the bar and the bar staff was excellent. I got a gimlet that was amazing. For dinner I had the southern fried steak and a glass of red. I would have liked there to have been more crisp and crunch with the batter but I cleared my plate. For dessert I had the peach cobbler. I will be back to try the shrimp and grits!

I had high hopes for this restaurant when I made a reservation for Valentine's Day, but…read moreunfortunately, the experience fell far below expectations. While I take full responsibility for arriving 15 minutes late, I was shocked at how rudely the hostess--who we later learned was the manager--handled the situation. Rather than a simple acknowledgment of the delay, or improbability of getting a table, she made a point to shame us, emphasizing that accommodating us would be an extra burden for her. This set an uncomfortable tone from the start. When she begrudgingly seated us at a table that had somehow magically become available, she made another unnecessary comment, implying that I should do my part to not make her job so difficult again. My partner was immediately put off and suggested we leave, but I decided to give the restaurant another chance, assuming the manager might just be having a rough night. Unfortunately, things did not improve. The food, best described as uninspired frozen bar fare from the main Duckworth's kitchen, took over 30 minutes to arrive--and even then, it was served before our drinks. When the drinks finally did arrive, they were nothing exceptional. I ordered a French 75, and my partner had a Paloma, only to realize that even the drinks had come from downstairs at Duckworth's. Given the restaurant's supposed reputation, I was surprised that it didn't have its own bar, unlike how things are set up at The Cellar. The only redeeming aspect of our visit was our waitress, who was pleasant and professional. However, what puzzled us the most was that despite the manager's initial reluctance to seat us, nearly half of the restaurant remained empty throughout the evening. With at least three or four servers working in a relatively small space, it was clear that staffing wasn't the issue--so why the hostility? It was hard not to wonder if other potential diners had been similarly turned off by the manager's deplorable attitude and the underwhelming menu. Overall, the experience left a bad taste in our mouths--both literally and figuratively. Between the lackluster food and drinks, and the uncalled-for attitude from management (she is bald and was wearing a dress on the evening of 2/14/25 at 9:30PM-11PM), I cannot recommend this place to anyone looking for a pleasant dining experience.

Drinks: 4.8/5 - Same mixologist as the Cellar At Duckworths so i knew these dunes were going to be fire and i was correct. We got the paloma which was yummy with fresh grapefruit juice. I think i got the dirty collins which was a lighter drink but not overly sweet so it was perfecttt!! I was eyeing the pisco sour too but will have to try that next time. Service: 4.8/5 - Since it was their soft opening I either expected mediocre service or top of the line. Thankfully I received the latter! Saturn was a wonderful server who provided great recommendations for drinks and kept checking in on us. She was super sweet and hospitable! Vibes: 4.8/5 - definitely get a seat in the bar area if you can. It feels more intimate and cooler..! we were seated in the dining room which was still nice and more quiet but i think it would have been more fun for us personally to be closer to the bar to watch them make drinks and overlook the road by the windows. There's outdoor seating, and initially we wanted to sit outside but we didn't have reservations. Luckily, they seated us at a small corner section near the back of the bar. It's very cozy and intimate inside. Just my type of vibe. The service was top tier. They were unable to validate our parking because of some sort of discrepancy with the signage outside and lack of having the proper equipment for validation. To make up for it, they offered us complimentary champagne to start. We were not expecting that, and pleasantly surprised! Their menu has an eclectic selection of cocktails, both full and mini. We opted to order from the mini cocktail menu, and we each ordered two drinks. I had the Creepy cucumber cocktail and it was refreshingly sweet and probably my favorite drink of the night. I also ordered the Don't Shy Away which was a sour and spicy rum concoction with carrot in it. It was definitely spicy and had a puréed texture. I really enjoyed it. And, then don't get me started on the music!!! The dj was masterful. He played all the types of music I love and he mixed them in such a refreshing way. I ended up asking him for his contact information before leaving, and whether he does weddings because my fiancé and I are currently looking for a DJ. He was just that good. This would definitely be my spot if I lived here in Charlotte. It was the perfect way for us to end the night.

It's a small intimate setting and I do love the dark aesthetic they did. Gives it a swanky vibe and makes a great date spot. But they were burning incense in the tiny space and it was overwhelming. The other bar guests sitting next to us agreed. *They did finally pick up on it and the staff moved it toward the kitchen door* Staff was friendly as well, though, it was busy and looked as if they had a trainee in tow, so attention was lacking just a bit. So why we came: The drinks were average to me. One was weird (Pineapple Fried Rice) and I just couldn't get it sit well on my palate - and I tried - sip after sip. But the mixologist saw my struggle and swapped it out for a different one. I did like the Don't Shy Away - it was an interesting take on a margarita with a strong carrot base. The Whispering Dove was a take on a Paloma and I couldn't find the lemongrass infusion on my palate. So I found it pretty basic, but pricey. So overall, decent. And I might stop buy if I was stuck in the area again.

We got there at approximately 5:15pm free parking a short walk from the restaurant. The area is extremely clean, quiet, there were people out, but it was not crowded or busy at all. We were seated immediately, and I could see into the kitchen as the staff worked on preparing our meals. Extremely clean, I loved the decor, the environment, even the music was wonderful. Very calming and level. Service was stellar. OK now the food?! Pimento Cheese Scones Thai Spareribs Mussels Scallops Pork Tenderloin Lemon Poppyseed Zeppolis Butterscotch Pot de Crème I ordered the pimento cheese scones, which were excellent and went beautifully with the sauce that the mussels and the scallops were in! You get one piece of crostini for the mussels and it was gone, of course. Those scones? I scooped up every bit of sauce in both seafood dishes. It was THAT good! INCREDIBLE! I begged the manager to please please do not take the mussels or the scallops off the menu! Apparently, they rotate menu items regularly. I could not get over the seafood, neither one of us could stop talking about the size of the mussels. The freshness, the texture was perfect. I love seafood? Hands down. Those were the best mussels I have had anywhere. They were out of the shell and I'm not gonna lie. I was a little nervous when I first saw them. Honestly? We will go back and there will be more than one order of mussels to go around if they're still on the menu! He did share that they brought them in from Maine and explained the location that they were purchased from was very controlled. Pristine. Can I just tell you? It showed! We ordered the Thai spare rib, which was cooked perfectly and so tender it came right off the bone. A balanced and even flavor as well. We will definitely order those again if they have them. I had the pork tenderloin with dirty rice stuffed cabbage. It was fresh and beautifully cooked, but my daughter enjoyed it more than I did. That by the way is a personal preference I just felt after having the seafood? Nothing was going to compare. My daughter had the scallops again that cream sauce was just phenomenal! It was definitely different ingredients different flavor than the sauce used with the mussels, but they've got a winning recipe. Let me tell you. The pimento cheese scones were the best compliment to the sauces and the seafood dishes. Not to forget the spreads that they brought with the pimento cheese scones. They were excellent as well. Last we had dessert and I ordered the lemon poppyseed Zeppoli's, which were good. I felt they could've been a little lighter on the inside. They were slightly gummy, but the flavor was excellent. Again, a personal taste, especially being Italian and having them homemade by family. My daughter's dessert was to die for. Butterscotch Pot De Crème. Seriously, the ingredients they used and the combination of flavors. It was just spot on! I don't think any other dessert would've compared - it just really stood out and we ordered it on the recommendation of our wonderful server. He said it definitely was a favorite and he was right. I will be going back to Peppervine and I highly recommend it however, the seafood is what did it for me. That was my absolute favorite.

As someone based in Seattle and not attending in person, I spent considerable time researching restaurants in Charlotte that could accommodate a group of 12 executives, offer private or semi-private dining, and meet a high standard of service. The Peppervine exceeded expectations on all fronts. I worked closely with Tommy Trull, who immediately put me at ease. He was incredibly responsive to my (many) emails and even took the time to connect over the phone to walk through menu options and service details. His willingness to collaborate and accommodate our needs made the planning process seamless. Tommy was also very flexible--he thoughtfully adjusted the menu to accommodate food sensitivities, and when our headcount changed at the last minute, he allowed the group to order off the menu instead of sticking to the pre-selected options. They also offered a very reasonable food and beverage minimum, especially given the level of service and flexibility provided. Dim lighting, leather chairs, a beautiful bar stocked to the brim with whiskey, bourbon, scotch, and all the other good things you would expect to find in a place that prides itself on great cocktails. It certainly set the mood and got us ready to have an experience. The mixologists were welcoming and informative. This place blue my mind…read more I was visiting my best friend while in town for a conference on amusement ride standards. We had a reservation for Blue Door for Saturday night, and it was amazing. Now while she was vaguely aware of their "spirited kingdom" menu, I had NO CLUE. It was the best surprise! They have such a cool menu with a full theme park map containing 4 lands with 4 cocktails each. The cocktails all match the type of ride they are, it's honestly such a cool idea, and it was so well done. I loved the art. I will say, I was skeptical that all of their drinks would actually work and worried that they'd be too caught up in the theme to make results but . . . Oh my goodness I was so impressed by the drinks here. I think a lot of bars these days can get so caught up in trying to be unique that their drinks become nearly undrinkable. This place definitely doesn't suffer there. They brought us an aperitif when we came in, but unfortunately I have a blueberry allergy so we skipped that. We had 4 drinks between the 2 of us and they were all awesome. I ordered the star breaker and the green dragon (what can I say, I love gin and a good coaster), and they were both balanced and tasty. My friend got the diablo and the neon shift, and they were both fantastic as well! The neon shift was served with a black light too which was super cute. The one drink I have to call out specifically is the green dragon. There was something about this drink that was so unique, I have genuinely never had anything like it but I would order it a thousand times over. It's so good. It keeps me up at night. It haunts my every bar order. I will be writing home about it. What else can I say about this place - the service was great, the atmosphere was fun, and the DJ was amazing. I thought "wow this guy really likes sax covers" only to look over and see him PLAYING HIS SAXOPHONE LIVE?? Iconic. This place was perfect and I wouldn't change a thing about it. The spirited kingdom menu will only be around for 6 months according to the waitress, so definitely catch it while it's there! If I'd heard about it sooner, I would've maybe descended upon them with 200+ theme park engineers in town for the conference (maybe it's a good thing I didn't know they were there until after it was over), but instead I will just say DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND MAKE YOUR RESERVATION NOW

The bartender-Wes did an incredible job. He is the best!…read moreThe dinner was above average.

This place really impressed me…read more On my first visit I had the Hawaiian Sliders which admittedly I would not judge a restaurant by....they were good but not that hard to make. My side dish was Mac and Cheese which was way above average and beyond my expectations. My dining companion ordered the brazilian style rib eye which he gave me a sample...delicious...perfectly seared, brilliantly presented and as good a steak as I've had. On my second visit there were 5 of us for lunch. We were all floored by the quality, freshness and again presentation. My Pub Burger was juicy, with dense meaty flavor and frankly too much to handle. This was a knife and fork burger. Again I went with the Mac n Cheese and again I was not disappointed. Of my companions, two had the Rib Eye which again was a hit, another had the Chicken Sandwich....not a crumb was left on his plate and the fourth went with the Wings and House Salad. She was most satisfied. We all shared the Goat Cheese Flatbread with a balsamic reduction....I am not bashful about my dislike of Goat Cheese....I had two helpings The drink prices here I would say are average to high....not much of a bargain. However, the meals were very reasonable for the talent involved in preparation. I would gladly come back here again.

Fun, lively place…read more My friends and I were in town and wanted to have one last drink before we jetted out the next morning, so we ended up in trendy South End. First thing we noticed was how HUGE this place is. I feel like everywhere we turned, each section had its own vibe and its own designated bar. With the loud music, it was more loungey than anything and the crowd was on the much younger side. Canopy seems to be the go-to place in the South End. We did not encounter this kind of lines or crowds anywhere else in the area. Ordered a grapefruity drink (Our Flowerchild) off the menu and it was pretty good. Price was alright - definitely cheaper than what I'd pay in NYC (which is already atrocious in itself).

This is the cutest outdoor bar! The atmosphere is beautiful, unique, and the bartender was amazing…read more When we stopped by, they had JUST opened so we had the place to ourselves. I bet it gets packed here, though, as the surrounding area is quite busy. We parked at a lot down the street, It's behind the train track so parking could be a little difficult. There seem to be a couple of garages near by, though. For drinks, we had the Three Wiseman and Fizz The Season. Very booze forward but tasty and enjoyable. The bartender was extremely skilled at his art and carefully curated our cocktails. We also had a little photoshoot while here, and it's the perfect spot to do so! I'd love to come back here and try other drinks. Highly recommend!
