Sunday morning was busy but a table for one opened up after about 15 minutes. Warmly greeted by my waitress who brought a menu and coffee. We ate at Pereas last week. The location has ample parking with a handicap spot out front. The dining room was clean and well lit. The waitstaff were patient, knowledgeable about the menu, and quick. The food was outa sight with a northern New Mexico style not commonly found this far south of Santa Fe. I enjoyed a beef stuffed sopilla with red chile. The sopapilla was perfectly tender and crispy at the same time. The red sauce was rich in body and flavor with a chimayo vibe. Just spicy enough without being overly hot. Super loud little place, so folds aren't going for the ambiance. The servers seem to try really hard, but man, this place is unbelievably understaffed. On a positive note, there is always a line. So the foods gotta be good, right? Well, maybe. I'm a big fan of Carne Adovada, so I've been three time recently. The first time was excellent. The second time was completely different food (even though I ordered the same thing). It was just okay. The third time, they brought me the wrong food, and never came back. Long John Silver don't live here no mo. But Perea's does. It's a perfect place for a hole in the wall and I got a lot of love for em. In we go all 11 tables occupied so it's a short wait. Our server shows up, young guy, great attitude & let the joking begin. Although the food is no joke! It was the Beef Chimichanga, hold the rice & beans and red chile in the side. It came out nicely fried, stuffed with meat and not holding up the weight of 1/2lb of cheese. They let diners know their chile is hot - yes it was. I'm not a good judge of "hot" for me it was warm, others - well??? Be warned. The Mrs got 2 eggs with chorizo mixed in. It was excellent, they didn't skimp on the chorizo either. It looked like more chorizo than eggs & it had a bite to it. It came with a thick tortilla, not a fan I prefer mine thin. Our meal was reasonably priced and delicious. Coming for years when visiting ABQ. Ordered two egg potato burritos with chile verde. $27 and I tipped 5. I got chilis but had no usual pork remnants in its Tortillas are still amazing. $2 extra charge per burrito!!!!!!!!! Eggs aren't that expensive. Several tables, mismatched chairs, a few NM-related pieces of artwork dot the walls. My sister ordered a chicharrón burrito. My mother asked for some eggs and bacon. I ordered a bacon omelet with green chile and refried beans. The omelet and bacon were fine. The green chile didn't have much heat nor flavor. The refried beans had a strange taste. I could taste something smoky like they were fried in bacon grease, but they also had a taste reminiscent of burnt beans. My dish would have been better if it had been served with some tortilla. My sister was less-than-pleased with her burrito; eating only a portion of it. My mother was happy with her breakfast, other than her eggs not getting cooked how she requested. My iced tea was good. Food is wonderful and well worth the reasonable prices. The whole beans are excellent and the Sopapillas are divine. I swear they float down to the plate from heaven. Pearea's does an exceptional job on the Sopapilla and offers chorizo. The problem is service. Perea's employees do not help one another. The front desk is overwhelmed consistently with customers paying for meals such that those waiting to be seated get backed up. And waiting time of customers is apparently of NO CONCERN to Perea's. Evidently the front desk person is also supposed to wash off tables before seating new customers. However the same tables were washed off by waitresses while people were STILL waiting. Lots of open tables and NO one is being seated! Frustrated, I asked a waitress why she wasn't seating people while the front desk person was busy. Her reply was that this WASN'T HER RESPONSIBILITY. Then the front desk person begins to seat people all at once, creating a cyclical burden on cooking and waitress staff. I watched this happen during my one hour breakfast that could have taken 45 minutes as it does in most well-run breakfast restaurants. We just ordered Perea's for the first time in awhile and we were SO EXCITED! We ordered on Doordash because we have a toddler who is out of control. :D I was so sad when I opened up my half huevos rancheros order. Usually, when I ordered previously, I would have a small carry out box FILLED with a tortilla, a bunch of hash browns, and an egg with cheese and chili. Just enough for one person to be filled up but not over-full. This time however, I had about a quarter cup of hash browns, one egg, one corn tortilla. It was TINY. Literally toddler sized. It's sucks to spend $8 on such a small amount of food... Such good food but the restaurant cuts too many corners. Perea's is a very tasty and most of the time are welcoming and work very efficiently , but today we encountered a very discourteous and unwelcoming waitress.. When taking our order she basically forced us to place our order, not being ready. I continued to order chips and salsa and in the end we didn't get them anyway. She ignored us and when we brought it to her attention and ask to take the chips and salsa off , she stated they were free anyway.. Before we were seated I had already heard this waitress telling the cashier staff,that she was basically tired and done for the day, so when realizing we got her as our waitress, I already did not have high expectations. You may be done, but the customers want a great experience and do not want to hear this. I really hope customer service is taken as a priority and corrected when not. Took my mom here over the weekend as she's been wanting to try it. Wasn't overly impressed at all. I ordered a combination plate. The taquitos were ice cold. I asked for them to be reheated. The brought all items of my combination plate separately and at different times. Finally made it here! Came with 3 friends for breakfast. A bit of a modest place, not huge, nothing fancy. Prices are also modest which I applaud. Service was fast and efficient, so was the kitchen's response time. We were all happy with our dishes and would be happy to return again to try some additional fare. (A week later) So, I have twice ordered online this week and I have to say that I am impressed with their online ordering system. It is quick and efficient. Perea's is one of my favorite spots when I get a craving for New Mexican food. The Red Chile is delicious, the Green is nice and hot, and the the coffee cups are straight out of the 1960's and that makes everything better. I have never had a bad meal here, have often had to wait which is never too long and the staff are always helpful and attentive even when the restaurant is packed full of people. read more

I am extremely disappointed. I've been eating at Perea's for 30+ years (Juan Tabo, central/san Mateo, central/Eubank and back to Juan Tabo) this is the 3rd time I've been disappointed. I come back because I continue to hour they get it right. I understand the busy, short staff. Or I wouldn't have waited 45 min to be seated. Today (2 adults) we ordered full huevos ranchers and tried to order the child's pancake and bacon but were told we couldn't because it was only for kids and elderly. It's not like we weren't already ordering $30 worth of food. Honestly what was another $6?? Time before we got there at 1pm. After church, they close at 230 so they were rushing us out, time before that they had run out of half the items we were ordering. I will say the 2 young girls (hostesses/bussers) blonde & brunette were on top of it, kind, courteous & respectful. They never stopped or slowed down all with a smile on their face. read more
