Love this place. We have taken our ancient ragged bikes here many times and they don't scoff at our minor repair needs! When one of our bikes was getting a basket installed, the other guy went out and correctly attached a side basket that was hanging on my bike without being asked, then explained to me what he did and why. I can really only speak about the services offered here and not so much the products, but my entire experience was fantastic. I had been having some issues with my bike (a hand-me-down single speed roadster) and came in looking for a part. Having little knowledge of bike maintenance, I asked the woman at the front if they had any diagnostic services to help figure out what was wrong. She had me check-in for a Tune-up service (which was $30 cheaper than comparable businesses around the area), and the guy that helped me was awesome. He basically gave my bike a thorough once-over to check for any issues and really solved my problem along the way, without a full tune-up and for no charge. I plan on going back to pick up any future parts I may need to give this place more business. read more

Situation: flat tire from huge pothole, external tube is gone. First ride of the year, so its fifties, my feet are soaked from snow meltoff. Forgot money. Walk into store, offer to leave my 3G iPhone as collateral for the repair at the store. Granola dude and the cash register jockey play solitaire or updating his facebook say they won't do that. Thank god I finally got in touch with a friend. Screw these guys. read more

I really want to like this bike shop and sort of do but dropped my bike to get the break pads replaced and picked it up with my seat height adjusted (it was dialed btw and see no reason to mess with my seat height) and a rubbing break. An hour later, I'm sitting here waiting for it to be fixed instead of putting my kids to bed. That said, The mechanic stayed an hour after closing to try to fix the problem. Unfortunately he didn't quite do that. I will continue to support the store but not bring my bike back for service. read more

I arrived in Minneapolis yesterday with a minor bike problem. I called Calhoun Cycle to see if they could look at my bike this morning. i arrived just as they opened for business, was greeted by Martha. The mechanic fixed the problem and had me out the door in 15 minutes. I really appreciated the quick service and the time the mechanic spent showing me how to avoid the problem. As I read in a similar post there is one guy at the shop who is incredibly rude to children and unhelpful. My wife came in with our son, we had purchased her expensive bike from their shop, and the repair guy would not help her fix my son's bike helmet. He was just plain rude and for a bike shop letting a 6 year old leave with a helmet improperly set up is just plain disreputable. I would give 4 stars to my first experience here when I had a flat tire fixed for under $20 and in less than 10 min. However, today, I felt incredibly ripped off and almost scammed by the other repairman who simply tightened some screws on another bike of mine, put air in the tires for me, and charged $15!! Then when I asked him what exactly he did for $15, he got pretty nervous. I'd be happy to pay $15 if it took more than 5 minutes for the repair job and if the exact details of the repair were a little more clear. However, this repair seemed as though would have been free-$5 any where else. Needless to say, I don't trust this company and I wouldn't if I were you... Clearly they're after the money. read more

I went in thinking I needed a hitch for an old bike trailer I bought used. The first person I talked to was primarily in sales and took to the maintenance folks. One of them (Hunter) seems to know everything there is to know about trailers. Even though mine is an old brand he hadn't heard of, he recognized that I didn't need anything. He showed me how modern trailers hook up and told me how mine works without buying a thing. And, it's attached to a comfy looking coffee shop right next door. I'll definitely go back. read more

Had two tires replaced. They gave my my options and asked my main use. Also, they check the bike out afterward and let me know of a possible safety issue due to an adjustment I made for comfort. They gave me some choices that would of cost money, but said they could make an adjustment (to prevent the safety issue) and said I should try it out before to see if that would fix it. They have everything from basic gear to more specialized gear, and they really stand apart from other shops in the area. Bought (4) 24 x 1 1/8 micro knobby tires @ $40 each for our (2) travel bikes on the recommendation of their service department after 2 phone chats. After two trips on these tires (about 600 miles total) both rear tires were showing thread through the rubber and broken side walls. These tires were not abused or run under / over inflated. When I contacted Calhoun customer service about the poor mileage on these tires (never mentioned during our chats or I would NOT have bought them), the response was "With the Micro Knobby's low profile, though, the tire just isn't designed to be long-distance or long-lasting. In other words, it's a great ride but not very durable. As for your own efforts in maintaining tire pressure, you're doing everything right. When our shop's owner had them on his bike he was rotating them front-to-back roughly every 400 miles and got used to tossing the back tire when it was too worn down. We do have more Micro Knobby tires in stock if you're interested in replacing them" I have bought thousands of dollars worth of stuff from them but will not buy anything else. The folks at Perennial Cycle have always been nice and helpful, but their Service department is the slowest I've ever seen at a bike shop. Earlier this year, I ordered an e-assist motor for my trike and it took them a total of 5 weeks to order it, get it in, and install it. And now I'm having issues with the battery for that motor and it's taken them 3 weeks to figure out that the battery is bad and to get a replacement from the manufacturer under the warranty. Considering how expensive these things are, you would think that you could expect prompt service. If there was another reseller in the area for ICE Trikes, I would never go back to Perennial. read more
