My fiancé proposed without a long-term ring, since I wasn't sure exactly what style I wanted. We gathered a few pictures for inspiration and met with Spencer at Skylight Jewelers to create a custom design. We iterated a bit with him on the CAD model before finalizing everything and having it cast. We had Spencer purchase a lab diamond for the gemstone, and he helped us through the process on deciding between natural vs lab and the criteria for stone quality (which neither I nor my fiancé were familiar with). Everything turned out better than we could have hoped! My fiancé and I still think the ring is so pretty and is exactly what I wanted. Spencer and Eugene also worked with us on a couple follow up visits to resize the engagement ring so that it fit just right. As our wedding date got closer, we went back for wedding bands and the process was just as easy. We chose very plain band styles that Spencer cast in the correct size for both of us. Gary inspected the ring in great detail and made a recommendation to remove some of the shank and rebuild it, as well as to place tension springs to prevent spinning and slipping. He took his time to measure my finger for the optimal fit. I was told by another jeweler that all of my prongs needed replacement and I wanted a second opinion. Gary again took his time to inspect all the prongs and reassured me that they didn't need replacement. I was very glad for his honesty. The next business day, Gary fixed the ring in 3-4 hours and it came out beautifully. I was so nervous previously to entrust someone with my ring, but I felt at ease. Gary offered that I stay and watch the entire process. He told me to inspect my gemstone carefully after his job was complete as general good practice after having my jewelry worked on! I am so happy with the end result and strongly recommend this jeweler. The key factors that impressed me most were honesty, trustworthiness, attention to detail, patience, mastery of his craft, and sharing of knowledge/providing an understandable rationale for his decision-making. Prior to contacting Leslie, I had great angst of this whole appraisal/sale of items process. I didn't want to feel foolish or be taken advantage of in any way. I had heard how you do not always get the true value of items if you go to a jeweler who then purchases these items. Leslie was very quick to reply to my email and honest around her fees. We scheduled an appt. and I brought my various items to her office for the consultation appt. During our appt, Leslie was very respectful of all of the pieces. She tests items and uses her microscope with you in the room. I felt like she was very thorough, and any questionable items, she agreed to test further. She was always respectful- even when items were not authetic gems or gold. The items we did agree she would liquidate, she logged for insurance and then gave them approximate values. Once the items were sold, Leslie promptly called me to inform me of the amount of the sale. There were a few pieces of jewelry I had left with her for appraisal-- well, as it turns out, they really weren"t anything requiring insurance, and she was very honest about not going through an entire appraisal process as this would have cost me money. Most jewelers date their batteries with a marker and I believe he had as well, but he denied having done the replacement and refused to replace it. For the $1.00 or so, not more it had cost him, since he already had the watch open, the smart thing with respect to customer good will would have been to just put in a new one. But he wasn't smart enough to do that. However he is very shrewd and I think, dishonest. With respect to his incessant TV ads to sell you gold and Rolex watches there for cash, I would suggest you get other quotes on your gold/Rolex before going to Marquis Jewelers!

However it was busy each time I was here, and this was my first time exploring this place. I had to wait several minutes before anyone asked if I needed help. Then the conversation was very different than what I had on the phone with them. We recently bought an engagement ring and other items elsewhere, and have spent likely thousands. We can be great customers, but no one wanted to help me, and when they did notice me it was such an uncomfortable experience. I believe the sales ladies were trying to be nice, but the space in the store is very narrow and crowded, and awkward. I was never asked my name, or any other information. They were very apologetic the entire time. I did drop off the item, but after retalking about it and seeing the other reviews, I went back for the item because It was an uncomfortable experience and I was worried something would happen to a family jewelry item. I would definitely read the reviews, as their experience is similar to mine as someone coming in for an item repair. They were more interested in people buying items right away, and did not seem interested in me or my needs as a brand new customer.
