Edit 3/15/14: I had to reduce from five to three stars. The last two times ordering burgers the meat had a lot of tendon/gristle within the meat. Enough where a lot of time was spent with a toothpick. So, I still like the food but I'll be prepared with my dental floss next time. Still love the Cajun hot wings! The 'pub grub' at this pool hall is over the top. I had a clue that the food was good when I noted patrons that work at other eateries lined up for dinner at the bar. After 5 visits, we favor everything. Wings, burgers, chicken fingers, onion rings, tater tots....have all been among the best that we have ever enjoyed. My wife and I went in this place a few years and Walked out immediately bc we thought it was "too divey". What a mistake... This place is AWESOME. It may seem a bit divey when you first walk in, but the tv setup is actually probably one of the best I've seen in Jax. They have 6-7 large tvs that you can see at once over the bar. One of my pet peeves is when bars don't actively manage the sports being shown, especially on Saturday's when you have a lot of different events occurring at once. This bar does an outstanding job of playing all the games they can, and it is clear they will do whatever it takes to keep people happy. The service is outstanding. Very attentive and friendly, yet not overly so (no one likes it when a bartender won't stop talking to you). But.....the best part is the food. I was shocked at the quality. I won't even go into the burgers, because they are obviously well known throughout Jax for having great burgers. I will say, the wings were a great surprise. I expected to get the kind of wings most bars have, which they simply heat and serve. These were NOT that type. These wings were clearly made from scratch, and some of the best I've ever had. I could not decided what to order, but I am so happy that I had Fish and Chips, it was absolutely excellent. All of the staff are super pleasant - you certainly feel welcome and taken care of. When I was a kid my Grandmother owned a bar in Maseilles, France. It was a great local bar. The kind where people really do know your name. The food was bar food, although it was French bar food- it would almost qualify as "cuisine " here in the land of round doorknobs. The Perfect Rack is the Jacksonville version of that bar. Great people, the Guinness tastes like an old Irish guy poured it, and they have ping pong, pool, and tabletop shuffleboard. What really surprises is the great food. This is a bar, so don't plan on Duck L'orange, but they have fish and chips that taste like they do in London (I would know), and the pretzel sandwich would even impress Anthony Bourdain. You won't regret spending some time at this great place in a revitalized part of JAX. I hope I see you there! :) read more

I have NEVER had a bad meal from the Perfect Rack. Their food is excellent especially the Chicken Tenders! Just about perfect (!) every time I have had them. Their salads are always fresh, actually everything is. Gary and Amy have this establishment running like a finely tuned engine. Look at the health dept. records on them too. They have had fewer violations than any place that serves food in Jacksonville. That is a huge plus to me. If the owners and employees are careful with hygiene that means that they respect your safety and you get a great meal in clean surroundings. I often thought pool halls were a thing of the past. I didn't imagine people still hung out to play pool other than at a bar. Well I heard that this place had shuffleboard and I knew I had to check them out. A few of my friends decided to check the place out on a Saturday night. The place is very spacious multiple pool tables, ping pong and of course shuffleboard. Rentals for anything is by the hour which is a good deal. We reserved a pool table and shuffleboard for us to play on. The shuffleboard table was $8 an hour which isn't bad. The table was clean and an a good amount of sand to tweak your game play. As the night went on the place built up a good crowd which was cool. The bar offers beer on tap and food from the kitchen. We weren't planning on eating here but decided to after the competition started to heat up. The menu has your typical pub fare food but the favors were kicked up a notch. A friend of my got the teriyaki glazed pork chops, AMAZING. I kind of secretly wish I had order chops after the little piece I tried. I went with their bacon cheeseburger on a pretzel roll. This was just a typical burger thrown on the grill it actually was seasoned properly. I was all smiles until the last bite. Throughout the night we had mozzarella sticks, fries and a few other things to keep us going. The one thing that was disappointing was that they didn't serve liquor. They had several beers on tap which was great but coke and rum is my fuel while playing bar games. Overall this wont be the last time I visit Perfect Rack. read more

Perfect Rack Billards is a fantastic place to hang out and shoot some pool. Perfect Rack's pool tables are nice but well used. They have lots of decent pool cues and seem to be very welcoming to players of all skill levels. On the side is a nice bar with ~12 beers on tap, including some of the local craft brews from Bold City and Intuition. Wine is also available. They have a full kitchen offering many tasty common items (solid burgers, very good wings, great fries and onion rings, etc..) and some very nifty experiments. They have some awesome pretzel bites (one variation involves lots of cinnamon), fried cheese cake, and some specials that include a great french dip and a beef sandwich with pretzels as the bread (I have noticed a yummy trend). Since it is classified as a bar, smoking is permitted throughout the place. They were a smoke free environment, but this rule was removed some time ago. They open the doors during the spring and fall that really helps get the smoke out (I am a non-smoker that rather dislikes reeking of cigarettes). During the winter they close the place up tight which does not help. Pricing for the pool tables is done per person per table, with a max of 4 charged people per table (any additional people on the table are not charged). If memory serves me correctly, its $4 on weekdays and $6 on weekends. Overall, a great place to spend an evening. I have even caught myself going in there just for dinner as its a nice local place to support when I feel like a burger. (Disclosure: I am a big fan of the place and was invited to join the pool tournament after visiting for several weeks in a row. I am not a very good player, but the more experienced players are great to play with and many are happy to give out tips.) read more

A truly great American bar. Perfect Rack is family owned, and it feels like home. If you hang around long enough, you get to know the family and they are the nicest people. One of the best hidden secrets in Jacksonville. It's a divey pool hall that surprisingly has great food. Seriously the food is better than any other sports bar or draft house in the area. The burgers are fresh. Not some crappy pre-packaged patty like some other places. Have also heard the fish sandwich is great. The prices have recently gone up but are still reasonable.
