I came in the day before to make an appointment for the next day. They had a few price books and menus to review in both English and Spanish. At the time I made the appointment, I was asked to pay 100% for the facial. I didn't have my wallet with me, so after pushing back a bit, they said they would send a link to pay by credit card via WhatsApp. The link never came. The day of the appointment I was checked in. No mention of payment (or lack of payment) which the day prior has been such a big deal. The lady who did my facial was nice, but didn't speak during the entire process. The massage chair was very uncomfortable. During the facial the lady was unorganized and not prepared. She left a few times during the facial, she would drop things, and make a lot of excess noise. Facials are typically very relaxing for me. This one was rushed and I got the sense she wasn't experienced. For example, instead of massaging lotion on my face and neck, she would dab it with her fingers and then soon wipe it off. The extraction process was painful and extreme. My face is generally clean and I do my own extractions. She dug in deep in every inch of my skin trying to find something that wasn't there. My favorite part of a facial is when they massage your scalp, shoulders, and arms. This didn't happen. In the end she said "ok all done". Instead of the typical dazed, relaxed, peaceful state I'm in after a facial, I was left thinking "that's it???" Recommendations: Train your staff on an effortless customer experience, train the people doing the work on how to properly do the work, be more professional. If you've read this far, save yourself and go elsewhere. Artepil needs a lot of work and there are dozens of other high end spas in Puerto Vallarta.

Unless you pay for the spa service, you don't sit in those somewhat comfortable chairs and they put you in a chair what was extremely uncomfortable to get my foot in the position the technician wanted. While they say they accept credit cards, the sign on the door says not on Thursdays or Fridays. How can you accept credit cards only 5 out of 7 days in a week? I also believe the prices are higher than the last time I was here. I think the technicians try their best with the situation they have. Sadly, this will be my last annual pilgrimage to this institution.

I am stating this as a matter of fact. This woman simply did not know what she was doing. First of all, the wax was likely not hot enough - which is already going to be the start of a world of problems. Second, slathering a large amount of wax (with an applicator, instead of a popsicle stick) in a widespread area is going to cause it to cool and harden. Third, trying to trim the hair with scissors AFTER applying the wax and having the hair stick together in clumps, is a sadistic form of torture. All of these faux-paus should be common sense to an average human being, let alone an employed esthetician! She ended up having to go over the same area multiple times, and often had to yank the same strip of paper in continuous attempts (YEOWCH). She made no effort to keep the skin taut, had no methodology for how she was choosing to remove the hair to begin with, and then went in there with the scissors AFTER the wax had hardened. Your next door neighbor would have done a less amateurish job. If this sounds bad, believe me - it was even worse. I would prefer not to get into greater detail as it involves descriptions of intimate parts. But I really was not comfortable with how close she got to certain areas as a result of her own incompetence and failure to remove the hair on the first attempt - or several. I had to stop the process before we were even half-way through. There is no way I could have walked out of there alive if we had continued. It was not only excruciatingly painful, but left me with unsightly bruises. And because the job had been so sloppy with little cleanup, I spent the rest of my evening with sticky hardened wax still on my body, the pain and discomfort following throughout. Oh, and cash only, which is not true of other spas in the area. Insult to injury.

Also, the sauna was warm, but definitely not hot. After 10 minutes we were just starting to sweat. And their cold plunge was cold but not freezing, as it should be. Overall, I'd go back because of its accessibility, but with significantly moderated expectations.

There was also a receptionist and someone doing facial/spa services in the back. Diana did my toes she was very kind, gentle, and thorough with my pedicure. She did an exfoliating scrub massage on my feet and legs that almost put me to sleep and whatever product that was used smelled amazing. She really took her time and my nails came out great. It was probably one of the best pedicures I've had in a long time. The total with gel polish was 450 pesos + a 5% fee for credit cards, so about $25! I'm so happy I made the stop.
