First off I'm gonna start by saying this experience made me fall in love with archery. I paid for a 40$ lesson which will get you 1 hour & 15 mins of learning how to do archery. The instructor was the best instructor I think his name was Todd. Best guy, it was my very first time ever even picking up a bow & already I was hitting bullseye. He adjusts everything to your own standards. You will think that bow was made for you. I highly recommend going if you've never tried and just experience it. My brother booked compound bow lessons for us as part of my birthday gift and it was such a fun experience!! Everyone was so nice and greeted us right as we walked in and directed us to the lesson area. Todd was extremely helpful in getting us geared up and showing us the ropes on setup, stance, aim, safety, and technique. I kept steering a bit to the left or right and Todd was great in tailoring the bow so make sure it was a good fit for me. He even brought out "Will" the zombie so we could all "shoot at-will" LOL. By the end of the lesson, I hit Will more than the actual targets. Todd even took the time to snap photos of all of us in the class. Overall a total blast! Signed up for an archery class for my brother. $40 for the compound bow beginners class and we made a reservation online. Charmaine was his instructor and she was amazing. She spent about 15 minutes explaining the bow and how to shoot. She explained everything really thoroughly and clearly. The class had 6 people in it and 3 people get to shoot at a time. They got to shoot for about 30/40 mins, he got about 4 rounds which was awesome! We went on a Saturday and it actually wasn't super busy. My brother really enjoyed it and t the next time he's San Diego we'll definitely be back! Came tonight for the beginner class and it was really fun! The hour goes by really fast so if your class is really big, then you may not have as many rounds to practice. They only allow 5 people to shoot at once. Near the end, they bring out a zombie and monster figurine. I only wish that the place was bigger. It can feel pretty cramped at times, especially when all of the lanes are full. I'm not sure how many lanes are in whole range, maybe 20? But only 5 is for the classes and the rest are for people who have their own setup already. read more

I went to performance archery with my family of 4 today not knowing we needed to sign up for a class before being able to rent a lane for the family to practice archery. We came in and they made room for us right then and there. I have to say all the staff at this facility were so nice and respectful. They were so welcoming. We had an instructor who was awesome, his name was Sam. He was wonderful with the entire family. It was my husband, my 15 year old daughter, my 70 year old mother and myself. My brother in-law was in from New York and was new to archery so I checked the reviews and saw the Yelp 5 stars and decided to go on 6/28/21 around 11:00 A.M. to try the indoor range and shop. Once we arrived the store had a couple customers and employees there outnumbered customers 3-1, yet it took 20 minutes to even get someone to acknowledge they worked there or even just answer a few questions about their compound bows. It was about the 20 min mark after I summoned my bro-in-law to see how a compound bow draws (he has only shot recurves). Finally got the attention of the Asian guy who had been walking around on the phone when he yelled at me not to touch the bows on the wall! I walked out of the store and was in the process of starting my Yelp review when a young man who was the only one behind the register who was also helping a customer on the phone came out to see if he could help me, finally! I rejected his offer and it has been now that I have gotten around to posting and am still epically pissed on how we were treated. Lastly, it appears if you haven't taken one of their classes you can't get on their range regardless of skill level. I do not recommend and will never buy my stuff from this shop. read more

I recently purchased a compound bow package from Bass Pro as I wanted to learn how to shoot. I signed up for some range time to try out my new equipment. Bob, the owner was walking by and saw that I was a beginner (not even hitting the paper target) and gave me some tips on the proper technique to use. He also noticed that there was a whole lot out of wack with my new bow. Bob took the bow back into the shop and gave it a tune up for a reasonable price. Literally within minutes of the tune up and Bob's tips, I put 5 arrows in the bullseye!!! What a difference! If anyone is looking for a place to buy new gear or a place to shoot, you should definitely come to Performance Archery. These guys are honest, reasonably priced, VERY knowledgeable about the sport and are willing to invest the help and time in their customers. This was one of the best experiences my husband and I had in San Diego. Our instructor, Charmaine, was easily one of the best instructors I've had in a loooong time. The class was really fun, she spent time with each of us individually, and is an absolute whiz bang of a human being. She has great stories, a fabulous sense of humor, and sparkly stickers for bullseyes! (Yes, grownups love stickers too!) If I lived in San Diego, I would take any class she had to offer on repeat. This place rocks! I have always wanted to get into archery but never really knew how to get started. I asked around and Performance Archery came highly recommended from everyone. I took the introductory compound bow class with Craig and I was hooked! Craig held a great class plus was super helpful and fun to work with. They have an awesome indoor range and after you take the class you can just show up and rent equipment. After the class, I came back multiple times over the course of 3 weeks to rent and shoot some more (also to see if I was really committed to the process). Once I was ready to take the dive and buy my own bow, I was helped by Tanner. Tanner was super helpful in explaining all of my available options based on my experience level and the price point I was looking to spend. He was never pushy at all and did a great job educating me along the way. He got me set up with a Mathews bow. Just about 1.5 months later and a ton of time spent on the range and I'm more in love with it every day! Every time I go back to Performance to us the range everyone is extremely helpful. Craig is always helping me work on my skills, Tanner is always available to answer any technical questions, and Dylan has also always been super helpful with any questions I have as well. Overall, everyone who works there truly cares about the people they serve and their dedication to providing quality customer service is top-notch. I can't recommend this place enough. The customer service of this shop is unreal. The amount of patience and knowledge each of their employees have will have you leaving confident. The specific employee that helped me was Dillon. His patience for all the questions I had as a brand new customer really left me feeling good about the decision o was about to make. He went over all the bows with me, asked my price range and selected the bows that best fit my budget to give a test fire with. He gave me a quick how to lesson on a compound bow then took me to the range to test fire. He had me run through multiple bows as many times as I wanted to really see what felt the best for me. Explained all the parts, the pros and cons of each bow, and what each bow features. I decided on the Hoyt Ventum and Easton range arrows. They fixed up the bow for me and cut the arrows down. Made the overall experience absolutely amazing and at no time did I feel like I was wasting their time. After getting the boy fitted to me and the arrows cut down, Dillon took me back to the range to zero the sight. I left hitting center and feeling confident with my new bow. A few of us took a Saturday beginner class ($25 pp, includes equipment) here not to long ago. Our instructor was Craig. Really nice guy! There was about 12-15 ppl enrolled and he took the time to guide us all. It was my friends' first time and my second, but he was good about tailoring his feedback and guidance to the individual person's skill level. The bows were a little heavy but he made sure we all had the correct forms while shooting so as to limit injury. I would recommend this to anyone! There were even kids in the class. I decided to update my review for two reasons: 1.) It has been about 2 years since my original review. And 2.) they have moved to a new facility on MIralani Dr. The new Performance Archery facility is even better than the last. The Pro Shop is now huge and they have put that extra space to use by stocking it full of EVERYTHING! If you're looking to let a few arrows fly. the attached, indoor range has a ton of lanes (16, I think). The space is well lit and has plenty of space behind the line so i'm not bumping into shooters while going to an open lane. They even have a section of the shop devoted to the repair and maintenance of bows and arrows. Below is my original review, which still stands true. I have had nothing but great experiences here every time I have gone. Everyone from the owner, Bob, to the range "regulars" like John have been extremely friendly and helpful! I originally went to sign up for the archery class held here, as I was new to archery and wanted to fire a few arrows and learn proper form and safety before making my purchase. Phaen, the store manager, talked to me for a bit to really get a feel for what type of bow would suit my needs and interest best before we even got a bow in my hand. They are all about what is best for you and not what they want to sell. Phaen spent a few hours basically giving me a 1 on 1 coaching session teaching me the basics of form, safety, etc. as I tried maybe half a dozen different bows. He is awesome! Asking me lots of relevant questions and kindly reminding me when my amateur form would deviate from his instruction. He also pointed out the differences in the different bows such as single cam, brace height, axle to axle length...things a new shooter may not immediately notice but should be brought to attention when making a decision on which to buy. I made my decision about what to purchase and couldn't be happier with both the product and the overall experience. Each time I return to use the indoor range, the team at Performance Archery continues to give top notch service even after the sale. I receive the same great attitude when I purchase a $10 Peep Sight as I did when I spent much more on my bow. In conclusion: I am very happy to find such a quality establishment and will definitely continue my business with Performance Archery for all my archery needs. I highly recommend you do to. We are two complete novices, and went into Performance Archery a couple of weeks ago. Eric totally set us up with everything we needed to start target practice. We were very impressed with the shop's inventory and Eric's knowledge. Not only were we able to purchase Galaxy recurve bows that were well adjusted for our size and ability, along with all of the necessary supplies, but we had an excellent and enthusiastic introduction to the sport, and felt prepared for our next steps etc. prices seemed very reasonable. We had dabbled with the thought of shopping online, and I'm so so glad we had the ability to go in in person.
