They went above and beyond, fabricating bespoke cardboard packaging and loading it all into the car for when I arrived. A few weeks later, I had a few minor issues with the aftermarket parts and was able to get back in quickly for some follow-up adjustments. So I'm the second owner of my 1983 Porsche 911SC and my 1 yr anniversary came with the new year. I've done some modifications to the interior but what it lacked was proper racing seats. After a little research, I found that Jason of PRE in Portland OR carries Racetech Seats. I brought my car up and they did some measurements and then we settled on the seats. I asked for a little customization of the passenger seat to match the driver seat. Everything was handled and all parts arrived. PRE offers a service where you can see the progress of your project. Every so often they posted new photos of what all has been completed - fantastic additional service. I could not be more please with the service and attention-to-detail that I've received throughout my project. Portland is fortunate to have a legit speed house. I came to PRE because they had a nice facility and seemed to know what they were doing. That was the worst, most costly mistake I've ever made. I was quoted for an install job on parts purchased from their facility. It was a quote for a little over $3000 and three weeks. The job ended up at over $7000 and seven weeks, plus an added kicker of over $1300 in "troubleshooting" because their main SRT mechanic didn't know what he was doing. The management of this "shop" doesn't give solid quotes, doesn't inspect the vehicles, they simply start slapping parts on and when they run into something they can't figure out, they don't abide by the quote. They leave everything very ambiguous. Their main SRT mechanic didn't have the wherewithal to change the oil on a brand new Garrett turbo. I had to ask for it to be done. Then they charged me $120...for an oil change. This shop doesn't post it's rates openly. None of their "mechanics" are ASE certified (this means they're simply shade-tree amateurs who don't value expertise). The owner doesn't quote professionally. He will back date quotes in an attempt to cover his mistakes. If this shop makes a mistake, it's ALWAYS your fault, even though you had no control over what they do behind their doors. Here are several hints when dealing with this company: Get a detailed quote BEFORE any work is done. Make absolutely sure that the owner knows that if the quote goes over 10% of the originally quoted price, work is to stop until you approve more. When and if you approve more, get another detailed quote with solid timelines. Do NOT be afraid to take your vehicle out of this "shop" to a more reputable shop if needed. Watch out for hidden fees or a mechanic's lien if you try to pull your vehicle out. By law, they MUST put the vehicle back to the condition it arrived in. Here is the importance of a preliminary inspection (which PRE doesn't do). This will prove what condition your vehicle was in before it arrived...and will save you a LOT of headache...and money. To be honest, I have plenty more detail to give...leaving it at this, don't go here. They are not an ethical, knowledgeable, or timely company to work with. Go to the BBB site. You'll see four complaints. Also notice that PRE isn't BBB accredited. This is another warning sign. If you get had by this "tuning shop", don't say you weren't warned. read more

I just had my 2013 Scion FR-S tuned about 8 months ago or so my car ended up with Bent rods and spun 4 rod Berings. My car only made about 260WHP on their dyno. Ben and Kevin are nice and informative. Their tuner is the opposite, not nice, not friendly. Toyota and several other shops diagnosed my engine concern and all cane to the conclusion to a "bad" tune. Not sure what happened on the tune side. They do have a nice shop/location however, the tunes is kinda the iffy part. I understand tuning your car is not recommended, but literally 260hp on a brz should not have these issues. Needless to say I don't like their tuner. Was arrogant/rude to me when we watched the dyno. Not I have turbo and more power on a new engine with 0 issues. To note: the tune I was on only lasted about 2 months about 2 thousand miles before blowing the engine up. Sad to say pre is lack luster. Their support is ok and their prices seem high to me. read more

I paid Portland Race Engineering nearly $4000 to install 3 way adjustable coilovers that they recommended (Stance Pro Comp 3's). It's also worth noting that PRE is an authorized dealer of Stance. I only mention this because PRE installed 2 way adjustable coilovers that were worth nearly $1000 less than what I paid for. When I inquired as to where the third adjustment was, Jason and his employees on three separate occasions insisted the third adjustment was the camber plates. I found this odd and took some photos of my coilovers and sent them to StanceUSA and it was confirmed PRE installed the wrong coilovers. 3 seperate technicians including Jason, all telling me I had the right parts when in fact this mistake benefitted them by nearly $1000. PRE built my engine: quote was for $6500 and two weeks downtime Actual cost was $16,500 with 8 weeks of downtime. No accountability at all. Lastly, I inquired about having a gear set and synchros installed (gear set and synchros to be supplied by me). Jason gave me a verbal quote of $6000-$8000. When I asked why it was so much, I was told there are many parts that could potentially need replacing. I was told by Jason "to get a loan for as much as you can get. Whatever is left over after the project, you can pay back to the principle of the loan." I instantly thought this was ludicrous. I had another shop do the transmission work. The transmission was trashed when they opened it up. Nearly everything needed replacing. Labor was $1200- parts were $1100. With the money I saved by avoiding PRE I was able to put in a brand new drivetrain from The Driveshaft Shop. Wether they are outright scamming people, or just horribly incompetent, they have no business in the Subaru community. I spent a lot of money with PRE and spent a lot of time and energy promoting their business, I now regret this whole heartedly. read more

One of the things I like most about PRE is how diverse they're expertise is when it comes to all things automotive. I've been going there for years, had them rebuild engines, transmissions, you name it. Every time I hit them with some off the wall idea or problem they rise up and tackle it and always see it through to fruition. At this point they've become my automotive shop for everything from tuning and major servicing, to simple oil changes and brake jobs. I used to do all of my own work, and was always quite resistant to letting others get their hands on my vehicles. But with PRE I know it'll be done correctly, for a reasonable cost, and done as quick as possible. Which is nice, since I really don't have the time or the patience for vehicle repair like when I was younger. I continually recommend them to friends and family. read more

Very professional and excellent work. Eric the tuner is very knowledgeable did a perfect job tuning my 2013 Nissan Pro 4x with a Supercharger using UpRev software. Tried both UpRev tuners in Washington State trying to get it tuned correctly and only ended up spending a lot of money to have it screwed up. Normally I don't trust shops, I will figure out how to fix or change everything myself. After I visited PREracing my mindset has changed. This is the first shop I have ever taken my car into on top of that I brought them a brand new car. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't nervous. For one they were honest with me about the parts I should use and what works great for my car. They were willing to listen to what questions I had to ask and for this I'm great full saying this was the first car I have ever modified in any way. Every part I bought was cheaper then I could find online or any other place and their delivery time is awesome. I got my parts within 2 days and they were able to hold them till my tune date came closer all for no extra charges. That's another thing I didn't feel is that they didn't seem all about money. The feeling I got was I felt like I was visiting a buddy's shop and they had everything I need or could want. Also very willing to help me explore my ideas of what to do to my car. I always enjoy walking inside PRE because the store has cool cars and it is immaculate. The people working there are polite and professional. They tell you what you need to hear and not always what you want to hear. I guess that is the way it goes with performance cars . Knowledgeable fun staff! I've taken two of my Subaru's there for performance tunes and the staff has always done a great job and treated me very well, PRE hosts car meets every know and again and gives away swag and free dyno pulls etc. There show room Is absolutely beautiful and makes you feel like your home, nice big comfy chairs, magazines and TV (don't forget about redbull) while you wait for your car to be finished. Holy smokes! These guys are amazing! I work next door to these guys and even though I don't drive a Subaru they have always been very willing and eager to work on my cars. Today I had my Volvo in there for a scheduled service - it needed more work than they initially anticipated and even though there was a ton to do, they got it done in record time so I could go pick up my daughter at daycare. No idea how this business has 5 stars...I had my car aligned here, took them 4 hours and they didn't even center my rear axle...I got it back in the dark, due to them taking half a day to do it, so I didn't notice (i shouldnt have to look at work that has been done i should pay a company to do something and trust it's done)...went on vacation the next day and didn't think about it until a couple of weeks after i got back. I looked at it after my car pulled to one side while launching...sure enough the rear axle was not even close to center...I took it back and they flat out said they would NOT honor their work. That's not a shop you can trust, nor where to spend your money. Im very sorry I ever let them touch my car and take money with nothing to show for it. I would highly recommend you go to another shop. read more
