I moved back to Austin 3 years ago and resumed seeing my dentist from the late 2000's. While he is a nice man and the office staff are very nice, he only has two dental techs and my husband and I do not like one of the techs. Apparently, we are not the only ones as you have to wait months to see the other technician which put me way behind my cleaning schedule. So, I was on the hunt for a light, bright office with good vibes, upbeat music, a nice and friendly staff as well as an office up to date on the latest technology and I seem to have found everything I was looking for with Dr. Matthew Horne. Mia is a member of his front desk staff and she really gets all of the kudos. From my introduction to her over the phone to our encounter in person, I knew I had chosen well for my family. They are very thorough and for that reason, your first appointment may take a bit longer than normal, but I care deeply about my teeth and I appreciated the attention to detail. Went in as a first time patient today and was treated poorly and hurried throughout the visit. I do not have insurance and was quoted a very specific amount for x-rays, exam and cleaning. After the x-rays (the technician, Peter, was great) was shuffled to the hygienist. She kept calling me "honey" in a condescending tone and said she was "surprised" my x-rays looked so good after waiting so long to visit a dentist. Was asked multiple times about Invisalign, braces and other cosmetics that I had already said I wasn't interested in. I was really getting the hard sell at this point. She checked my gums and said they were in need of some TLC but nothing severe. She said it would be best to break up the cleaning into a 2-part visit. I asked what that would cost and she said she'd have the billing specialist work out the plan. The dentist came in, looked at my teeth for maybe 2 minutes then said i would need a cleaning (the whole reason for my visit) and agreed it would require 2 more visits. She then said I needed to watch some video about gum disease from the 1990's and left. The billing specialist then walked me through a multi-visit plan costing upwards of 600-1000 a visit! Then gave me a bill for 300 for that visit where i received no cleaning at all and only had x-rays taken. It was a complete scam, zero patient care, total hard-sell on cosmetics and dr. doyle clearly only cares about making money and not the health of the patients. I left sobbing and feeling less then human. I wouldn't recommend this office to anyone. read more

I had a disappointing experience at the dentist's office. The Doctor rushed through my visit and didn't take the time to address my questions about the cosmetic work I wanted. It felt like they were more interested in moving on to the next patient than in providing quality care. I left the office feeling unheard and frustrated with the lack of attention I received. If you have dental anxiety be prepared to be here a while, X-rays took at least 20-30 mins alone and it was over an hour until the doctor saw me. read more

Best Dental Office! I've had about four appointments with no issues in scheduling, payments, or treatment. I've seen Dr Horne, Dr Walton, Rebekah, & Tanya. The front desk, dental hygienists, and dentists have great personalities & have created a highly functional office. At the end of the visit you're shown each code that is to be billed + your insurance's estimated contribution + make your payment. If you do early morning appointments you get to see the sun rise with the Austin skyline. Would recommend to anyone in the area. read more

Just received a statement for a FOUR year old bill of $50.00 when I had a primary and secondary insurance. The statement is from a routine cleaning!!!!!!!!! If a primary and secondary insurance plus a copay cannot cover a cleaning, wouldn't you say your cost is a tad high doc? Looks like Dr Horne is jumping on that westlake bandwagon of high cost without quality of service... Front desk staff is quite rude and short with customers on top of lack of service, now this measly bill... It's insulting. This is why I left this practice years ago being I never saw Dr. Horne even at cleanings but was being charged a ton? No thanks. Go else where! Not impressed. read more

Most people hate going to the dentist- that's because they haven't been to Dr. Matthew Horne in Austin, TX. He and his staff make the experience whatever it may be, a pleasant one. They are timely, always call you by name, and are constantly checking your comfort levels. The office staff is transparent will all billing before they begin a procedure. You should get your teeth checked out here. Dr. Horne is meticulous in his work, and it shows. I've been coming here for about a year now and have zero complaints. I always get a reminder call the day before an appointment, so I never miss one; this is really useful for someone as scatterbrained as me! Dr. Horne's hygienists are just as skilled as he is, and super nice, so I'm always at ease when I'm in the dreaded chair, just shooting the proverbial breeze as they do their thing. Love, Love, Love this place! and you would think by my enthusiasm I would be talking about a shoe store or restaurant, but no I am referring to a dentist. I had not been to the dentist in at least 6 years and feared going and getting scolded or a lecture on how I need to make a better effort for caring for my mouth. So after moving to Austin, I said enough was enough and via a referral from my boyfriends brother, made an appointment at Matthew Horne, DDS. ATMOSPHERE: I walk in and the office is so clean and aesthetically relaxing. They see me right away, no long wait. They seat you in big comfortable dentist chairs and pull a little flat screen right above your view and hand you the remote. I love getting lost in the cooking channel. :) My favorite part about sitting in the chair has to be the view. You are facing a wall of reflective glass windows that offer a beautiful view of downtown and the rolling hills. THE PEOPLE: Contrary to what I was expecting after not going to the dentist for some time, I was not scolded or lectured for all the red wine and coffee I drink. In fact I was told they would never tell me not to drink coffee because they are coffee drinkers. Brownie Points!! These have to be some of the nicest people ever. I actually look forward to my visits because I feel like I'm just hanging out with some girl friends, but I'm actually getting my teeth cleaned. Not only were the staff super friendly and genuine, Dr. Horne took time to get to know me. There's really nothing worse than having a dental emergency on a holiday when you're new in town and don't know where to go... i'm happy to report that when I called Dr. Horne's office, the phone was immediately answered by a friendly and knowledgeable person who was able to get me in right away. It turned out that my "emergency" was just a bruised tooth, and my self-diagnosis from the internet was completely insane. But Dr. Horne didn't make me feel stupid and didn't recommend anything expensive or crazy. A less scrupulous person could have bilked me for many thousands of dollars in dental work. I take pretty good care of my teeth, but I have needed the occasional filling and two crowns over the past few years. Every procedure was handled in a very friendly, gentle, and professional fashion. This was my first visit to Dr. Hornes office in Circle C. I had an appointment for me and my 5 year old daughter and it went smooth as could be. It was great that they scheduled us at the same time. Everyone is so nice. They had a TV for my daughter to watch cartoons on while they worked on her teeth which was nice. I also enjoyed watching ESPN. They had a gift bag for my daughter to pick from after her appointment and she got a voucher for a free frozen yogurt because she had no cavities. I have moved a lot and had many dental office experiences. Dr Horne and his office staff are exceptional. I have had two crowns done thus far in my life. The first was a bad experience, and a crown that had to be done twice. The crown Dr. Horne did for me was great. The experience was flawless and his staff was awesome. Dr. Horne has an assembly line approach and over charges for even the simple cleaning. They do unnecessary procedures to make money! There is a negative energy I felt every time I saw him. Mia especially and her office staff are manipulative where they had an opening but would not give me the appointment. Matt Horne is a fantastic dentist. He's quick yet thorough with a great chair-side manner and the work ethic of a Clydesdale. His staff is top-notch: friendly, efficient, and proficient with them little scratchy things. The scheduling process is efficient, the office environment is extremely clean, well decorated and very welcoming. A few months ago, I broke a tooth at work (I'd like to claim a fistfight with an intruder, but it was nothing that glamorous), called Dr. Horne and headed their way. They slid me into their schedule and I was in the chair before I knew it. I thought Dr. Horne was just going to take a quick peek then leave me in the chair since I'd barged in. Instead, he completely rebuilt my tooth with some space-age polymer or whatever the heck they use and I was back at work ASAP. Instead of the waiting room feeling all stuffy, its very open & a genuine friendly face greets you!! From there on it gets better! Dentists don't bother me. I like the way my teeth feel after a cleaning and I am a good dental client. I selected Dr. Horne after my assistant had a mouthful of work done several years ago. She hated dentists but went on and on about Dr. Horne. Something other offices don't have is his team. The staff is professional (and personable) and really want you to have the best dental experience possible. I cannot recommend Dr. Horne and his staff more highly. I had put off going to the dentist for 2 years! 6 people I work with go to Dr. Horne and told me I needed to go see him. When I made my first appointment, I told the person taking my call that my last dentist had me walking out in tears. She assured me that they would take good care of me and so I made my appointment. Here's the deal. I've never had a dentist like this. I can honestly say Dr. Horne's office gave me the best dental experience i've ever had. At this office, you are surrounded by people who love their job and are great at what they do. They are cheerful, sensitive, and engaging. Today I got back from a filling that was overdue. During the procedure Dr. Horne asked me how I felt and made me feel at ease every step of the way. I hands down, without a doubt would recommend him to anyone I know. I've been back a few times since 2008 including today and the office is still great. I needed a cleaning and I have pain in one of my teeth when I chew. I feared the worst; however, the tooth with an enormous 33 year old filling just needs a crown. We also talked about replacing my other older fillings and how much that would cost. That was at my request though, and not Dr. Horne's. In my experience with this office, Dr. Horne just wants you to be healthy and he treats you like a good medical doctor would, focusing on good overall dental health before he'll address the cosmetics. The ladies are all still awesome! Rebekah, Renee and Mia - plus I have an additional favorite hygienist now named Rachel. They're all skilled at what they do and very professional. Dr. Horne has not stood behind his promise. I purchased a "lifetime" teeth whitening program for a substantial lump sum fee. After several years of service, I was told the program would no longer be available unless I used Dr. Horne's office for regular exams (which are more expensive than my regular dentist's). This requirement was not part of the original agreement. Dr. Horne has been obstinate and now refuses to honor the original promise of "lifetime". A great business will always put the customer first, honor its promises, and make every effort to fix a problem or mistake. At this office, the Dr. is always right, not the customer and Dr. satisfaction ranks well ahead of customer satisfaction. Dr. Horne has not stood behind his promise. There are many great dental practices to choose from. I'd just encourage you to really think about it before joining this one. read more

Can't say enough good things about Dr. Horne and his staff! They always have the most up-to-date equipment and cool technology, personal flat screens during exams is an awesome touch, and the staff is just so friendly. Mia and I always share pictures of our kids and it's nice to have that personal touch. :) Overall they are the best of the best! Wow, I get why people love it here, but there is something extremely shady about this guy behind the facade of a beautiful "spa-like" experience. TV's are great and all, but it shouldn't cost you $5,000 for a treatment. A few years ago, I went to Dr. Horne after moving back from college. At first, I loved this place. Loved the atmosphere, his bedside manner was great, loved watching TV from the chair. A few visits in, I was told by Dr. Horne that I had advancing periodontal disease, a severe issue with my gums that required periodontal scraping, which cost something in the realm of $500 per quarter side ($2000 total) and a number of visits. This in addition to a few cavities, a $40 "tooth brushing instruction" which were covered by my insurance meant I would quickly be paying approximately $3-5000 out of pocket for treatment. When I casually mentioned this to my family, they recommended I get a second opinion as my teeth appeared healthy and their dentist never charged this way - in fact, their dentist found ways to work within your insurance and payment plans to ensure that your dental health didn't put you in the hole. So, I went for a second opinion and he was shocked to learn that I had been told I had periodontal disease - my gums were healthy as could be. This was after I'd already paid for half the job, but needless to say I didn't go back. Fast forward a few years - a few weeks ago I ran into an acquaintance, who was completely harrowed by an experience at her dentist earlier that day. Apparently, she was told by her dentist she needed a root canal immediately and they were scheduling her with the guy who performs them *(why doesn't Dr. Horne do this??) that day. He novacained her mouth, etc. and she was quite upset as she had just gone in for a routine visit and hadn't had time to prepare (nor had she had any trouble with this particular tooth). Well, right before they started drilling, the other dentist apparently noticed the root canal wasn't at all necessary and the tooth was fine. I asked who her dentist was and to my surprise she said Dr. Horne. I know he seems like a great guy, but seriously, STAY AWAY! For the record, I now go to Dr. Clayton Hamilton in Northwest Hills, and he's fantastic!! read more

Best dentist ever. I had only been for checkups, but then my old crown fell out in the front of my mouth. The whole staff went above and beyond to put me at ease and they got me in right away to finish the job. They recommended me to a great entodontist and had me come right back to the office immediately after. They even made the permanent crown while I waited. From Mia up front, to Rachel and Mandy assisting, to the man himself, Dr. Horne, this is by far the best dentist in Austin. I would recommend them to anyone for routine and emergencies alike as I have received nothing but top notch service across the board. And now my grill is looking good again and all in less than 24 hrs! read more

The best thing about this dentist office is how they help you with insurance questions and take a proactive approach. Sarah is exceptional. One time, I couldn't find my insurance, and she was able to find it for me quicker than I could even search through old emails to find my coverage, and she also goes out of her way to explain what benefits mean and what will/won't be covered. A friend of mine recommended Dr. Horne as I was having tooth pain during lunch one day. Little did she know I was extremely anxious when it came to going to the dentist and it had been quite some time since my last visit. My previous dental experiences have impacted my life in a negative way and I simply opted not to go until it was necessary. I was traumatized from my previous experiences and to say I was a challenging patient when I initially went to Dr. Horne is an understatement - I felt like a cat about to be thrown into water. I am thankful to Dr. Horne and his staff as they were all very understanding and accommodating during my initial visit. They went out of their way to ensure I was comfortable and understood exactly what they were about to do each step of the way. There were no surprises, they were efficient and professional. The office is very well designed, clean and almost feels as if you are going to a spa, not the dentist. The lounge waiting area has a fully stocked fridge with complimentary beverages and once I was called back they reviewed everything in detail with me. Before they started, I was handed a remote and given the option to watch and control the flat panel tv overhead as I relaxed in the comfy chair as my teeth were being worked on. I can say that I no longer have any tooth pain and am much more comfortable during my visits. I never thought I'd be happy to go to the dentist, but I am and I cannot thank Dr. Horne and his staff enough for taking such great care of me and my family.
