This B&B is seriously so cute. My boyfriend and I stayed here for a weekend and we so very much enjoyed our time on the island. We arrived late at night, and my first impression upon walking in and seeing an envelope with our name on it made us feel at home. And when we opened the door to our room, it smelt so lovely! I'm not sure what it was, but it smelt like lavender or a natural herb and was truly relaxing. In the morning there was fruit, muffins, yogurt and some sweet treats. Overall the place was quaint and just adorable. From the inside to the outside. They even had a beach bag in the rooms complete with towels. So thoughtful! Highly recommend. read more

Periwinkle offers the most basic of accommodations - tiny, old and outdated rooms, thin walls, more like a hostel rather than an inn never mind a luxury inn. Hospitality is critical to making a stay at Periwinkle near pleasant since the accommodations leave much to be desired. Unfortunately that is lacking as well. This is what is listed in the booking information/rules on Expedia: "Total maximum number of guests per room/unit is 3. Maximum number of adults per room/unit is 3. The fee for extra adults is $60.00 per person." The room we booked is listed as a triple with three single twin beds. Sounds like you are allowed three people to the triple room, and if you want an extra (i.e., 4th person), you are charged $60. Apparently not, you are charged an extra $60 for a third guest, will be charged without prior consent, and will be notified only after your credit card flags the strange manual transaction as fraud. We checked in on the first night with three guests (all of us checking in together with three women and three suitcases clearly in our party) into our room which is advertised as a triple. There was no mention of additional fees. The very next morning Gail followed one of us and cornered her as she was getting out of the shower in her robe and towel harassing her about an extra fee because we had three people in the triple room, and she wasn't able to charge the credit card on file (and rightfully so!) It was all very strange and uncomfortable, almost as if she waited until the next morning to make it so that we were stuck with the Periwinkle before sneaking in a $60 fee. The rest of the stay was very uncomfortable for something that is not a material amount of money, it was the way the situation was handled and the lack of transparency from the start. Because of the weather we wanted to extend our trip and did so--but at White Elephant. You get what you pay for, unfortunately we learned the hard way! read more

We were in the cottages at the boat basin. Due to an extended vacation and no room at the basin for Thursday and Friday night. I called around town the day before I booked! I tried four or five places before choosing the Periwinkle. Weekends get packed in ACK and most B & B's wanted $225 + a night. Here was $125, read below for why: We were given a room in the Scallop Inn the mini B&B next door owned by the Periwinkle, King size bed, cable, AC. Only downfall. bathroom in the hall... BUT Extremely clear, rarely saw anyone else. Inn keepers aren't in your face. Very private homely setting. Back yard for sunning. Basic breakfast and coffee in the am. I woud think about this place again, maybe a bargian in the Fall. read more

Spent 1 week at the Scallop Inn in August and I was very impressed. The inn keepers were super helpful and very attentive. The location of the inn is perfect - literally 1 minute walk to get to the middle of town. Only thing I wish was better was the coffee. I would stay again! read more

Last minute find through a Mobile Search. Sweet Inn located in a short walk from either Ferry. Sonja greeted us warmly. Breakfast was healthy with homemade yogurt, fruit, and baked items. Yard is swell with weaved furniture and our room was spacious enough for two. The Inn is in close proximity to the Whaling Museum, Antheneum, Greater Light Quaker House, Fire Hose, Gaol Town Jail, and the Old Mill, amongst other treasures. Also, it's .2 miles to the smallest Light House on Children's Beach and .9 miles to Jetties Beach. Thank you Periwinkle! We hope to visit again. read more

The good? Very nice innkeeper and housekeeper. Truly welcomed you before/after check in/out to leave luggage and maximize time. Location is great but not a distinctive factor as dozens of other places are just as good. The other? Our room was tiny - hit head many times, including over bed. Shower was ridiculously tiny. Rest of bathroom (like rest of room) was superdated but ok. Window AC was very loud. Early morning maintenance at NYC wasn't better if windows open. Tissues, bath products, etc. weren't replenished unless you ask. Bfast was described accurately on site but know it's grocery store bought quality (e.g. pepperidge farm bread and stop and shop muffins). Milk and OJ both were expired. Our first visit to nantucket so can't compare to others but would not stay here again. read more

This was a cute Inn and the host, Gail, was friendly and helpful. The room was small, yet clean and had everything we needed. The location was great and very convenient to town and the ferry. There was always fruit and coffee/tea available, which was nice. The biggest problem was the bright light at night. There was a lamp in the backyard, outside of our room. The shades did not block the light well at all and I had a really hard time sleeping with this light in my eyes all night. The air conditioning unit was pretty noisy, but we didn't need to use it the whole time. read more

Disappointed to say the least. Rooms were shoebox size and priced as a luxury inn. Located in the heart of downtown with easy access to ferry. Rooms clean. Breakfast consists of Keurig coffee, a few tid bits of fruit, muffins and juice. Value is poor, if prices were half I would have rated much higher. read more

Room is clean and cool (it's July), and the bed is very comfortable. Also, Gail is super nice - highly recommended!

This establishment is currently for sale. We had booked at the Scallop Inn located at 7 North Water St. not realizing that property (same owner) was also for sale. Had we known this we would have NEVER made a reservation. Proprietor cancelled our reservation and refused to assist with relocation assistance. Only book here if you don't mind a last minute unpleasant surprise coupled with a go pound sand customer service approach. read more
