Seriously. Innkeeper - Mary Ellen is sweet, accommodating and makes a mean banana nut muffin. She also washed and cut up some fruit we bought at the market so we could have it with breakfast. Location - a short walk to restaurants, shops and the harbor. Amenities - the outdoor shower proved handy for our group after long, sweaty runs around the island. Breakfast included fresh fruit salad, OJ, coffee/tea, home baked muffins and more. Cons: Size - there are 3 guest rooms so there's not a lot of choice; however, if you booked with two other couples it's like your own private floor. Rooms - I'm a bed snob and I had a tough time sleeping on the first night. The pillows were rock hard. We did, however, have a DVD player and TV in the room so we popped in a flick to distract us from the distinctly-not-tempurpedic bed. Quirkiness - The innkeepers son seems to live on the floor above the guest rooms and would walk up and down the hall at odd hours. This would be fine except that two rooms share a bathroom and I seemed to keep getting caught in the hallway in a towel. It's also an old house in a humid climate, and as such has a bit of that old house smell which was at war with a small army of plug in air fresheners. Personally, I'd rather smell a bit of old house than 5 aggressively competing florals. For the money you could do much worse -- the hospitality was great and I'll be bringing my own pillow next time.

My wife experienced an unfortunate Nantucket cobblestone ankle mishap and the care that John at the front desk and all of the team at Via Mare provided made the experience feel as though we had new great local friends looking out for us. As a guy I appreciated the color and masculine finishings paying homage to the home's fisherman past. The room was well appointed (small like every most B&B and inns) but again the finishings and furniture were a very nice nautical and masculine style. No breakfast though they offered to make coffee. Cleaning people came and tidied the room up nicely. Location in town is perfect an easy walk to all restaurants and young's bike and juice bar (ice cream) are just down the road. While I prefer to stay in private homes, I would absolutely stay again upon another visit to Nantucket.

We were extremely disappointed with this hotel, both the product as well as the service quality. For 750 pre tax, we expected a higher quality level, namely: -the rooms were old and my parents room (terrace king) had a smell. The rooms were dingy and the bathrooms were extremely dated. The terrace room went for a premium and the terrace was dirty to the point they never went out there (ground floor) -the lobby was tiny and not a place to spend more than 2 mins. It's full of luggage that is being stored and very uninviting -the rooms are marketed as breakfast included when you book but you have to choose between a croissant and oats and you can pour yourself some coffee that is on a warmer -most of the time, the front desk person is actually hanging out in the kitchen and they come out after you make your presence known. -outside of the croissant and coffee program, there is no food, cafe, or restaurant. You'll need to walk over to sister ships / faraway which has lots of offerings -in general I'd say the service quality is very low. They run extremely lean on staffing (maid plus 1 desk person) and the front desk folks are really only focused on checking you in. And the overhead saved by having a skeleton crew working does not get passed on the customer. -I called several times in advance of arrival and most of those calls were never answered, the phone just rings. I did catch a front desk clerk over the phone at some point and asked for some recs. She said she'd email and never did. I ran into her upon check out and she commented, "oh hey sorry I never emailed you those recs". So there is no concierge service -Between no lobby to relax in for a few moments, no restaurant, no reasonable breakfast though breakfast was advertised, no staff, and lousy rooms I dont see how this hotel charges more than $300-400 per night. It's a place to sleep and spend no time otherwise. At every turn, the hotel was a major let down. It was a damper on our trip. I believe the hotel requires complete operational revamp or major price reduction/50 percent. The value you get for the price point is completely upside down. Hope this helps someone to avoid the mistake we made staying there.

The innkeeper, Ann met me when I arrived and even though it was quite late she was warm and friendly and very welcoming. The room was small, but in a cozy way. Bed was comfortable. And, the furnishings were appropriate for the inn and room. The bathroom was tiny and the shower was very small! It was hard to shower without ending up wrapped up in the curtain or with a large puddle on the floor. If you are a large person you might ask if there are rooms with larger showers! Note - this is not a complaint... Just sharing the experience. Breakfast was muffins, fruit, juice, and coffee. For the price, this was a nice little place to spend the weekend. Cozy, convenient, welcoming.

You generally have to make reservations for slips way in advance due to it's popularity amount us boaters. Located on the eastern part of town, almost everything is within walking distance. Plenty of cabs are available to get you to the beaches or you can grab one of the Wave Buses. You should try to make this as one of the destinations you should visit at least once in your life if not year after year, This place also has some very nice but small cottages located on the docks for rent. They book up early so if you are interested call months ahead.
