Not that I really care about being fair, but for the sake of fairness time for a brief update. In the almost seven years since my last rant maybe I've been here three or four times. The big turnoff here is simply the prices. In terms of breakfast, compared to many local diners or family restaurants what is charged here for the same food is laughably criminal. As an example, I could go to the Williams Family Restaurant on a weekday and get a ham and cheese omelet with homefries and toast for $7.11 with coffee or I could come here and pay $9-10 dollars for the omelet with the drink being extra. Oh, that $7.11 I mentioned would be for two people. Yeah, $7.11 for a full breakfast for two people. No brainer in terms of where you should be going. Past that, the rest of the menu is average and really hasn't changed much since the place existed here the first time before it closed then reopened after the construction on the on-off ramp for 378. Every year they still keep sending me a coupon for a free breakfast meal that I come and use and past that it's nada until the following February. Again, nothing intrinsically wrong with Perkins but the menu is dated and for breakfast (which let's be honest - that's what they are known for) their prices are overly bloated. Walked out Waited in the lobby several minutes for someone to seat us. A manager finally came out and seated us. The waitress came and brought us water then went and sat down in another section with another waitress to talk. We eventually got up to leave, the manager watched us walk out and never said a word. read more

Been coming to this location for about 15 years. Although the staff is always super nice and amazing, the overall cleanliness is a negative 1000. Not one time have I been sat at a clean booth without crumbs on the seats. The menus are sticky and seem to not be wiped down at all. The floor under the tables are disgusting and full of food from the prior guests. The food is not little so it's not like they don't see it. If I see it, you can see it, so why would you think it's ok to sit me and my children at a dirty booth with dirty chairs and an even more disgusting floor? The table is also always dirty but they don't care. Every time I go I have to ask to be seated at a cleaner table. I shouldn't have to ask this. Very disappointed. Will not be coming back. read more

This is a pretty great Perkins, and I'm glad it's back in the neighborhood. This isn't some gastro-snob's paradise, so don't expect to have a life changing experience here, but what you can expect is decent, tasty food for a very reasonable price. Best of all, Perkins has some pretty healthy options on their menu. Sure, you can grease it up, but most late night options in Bethlehem (especially after 10pm) are pretty bad for you. Here you can get a nice salmon filet or a turkey dinner and not feel like you need a defibrillator. The new staff is very helpful, and they really try their best to do a good job. I hope they keep it up. The restaurant is very well lit. You can easily read at the tables. I hope they keep it this way to keep the atmosphere light and help people study over dinner. My two suggestions: 1) Perkins is popular with Lehigh students. Keep it open 24 hours a day around finals weeks. It will be great business and it will make a lot of people very happy. 2) Add a salad bar with lots of fresh green options. There are no really good salad bars in the Valley (that includes you, SaladWorks) and Perkins is the perfect place to have one. read more

Chain restaurants have to meet corporate standards. That is why I don't usually review them. I only rate them if they suck or shine. This one shines because I can't get to one often enough. I hate writing negative reviews but I feel I have to, tonight my wife and I stopped at this location for a late dinner. We followed in an older couple with a friend, a party of three. All of us waited there for about ten minutes not a single person came out. No wait staff, manager, hostess, anyone. In fact we could see into the kitchen and saw two employees wet mopping the floor. Even made eye contact with us, but didn't say a word to anyone. I finally said to my wife this was a bad idea let's go, a couple minutes later the party of 3 followed us out. As they past another party they wished them luck in getting a table. Look I get there is a staff shortage and to be patient. Went here for the first time last week. The place was empty and we were seated promptly. Waitress was friendly. It did take a good bit of time for our food to be served considering the low foot traffic at that time, but nothing too crazy. There was a quality concern with one of our meals, and it took a good amount of time for the replacement to be brought out. They did offer a free piece of pie for the trouble. We stopped here while driving through PA to grab some breakfast. The restaurant was clean and the staff was extremely friendly. They had a large selection of breakfast items including pancakes, waffles, omelets, combo plates and skillets. The coffee was just okay, but the food was good. I did a 'build your own' omelet with egg whites, spinach and feta. It came with a side of hash browns (or roasted potatoes) and a mammoth muffin (also had a choice of pancakes or toast). The omelet was good but they just put whole wilted spinach leaves in it instead of chopping it up like most other places do. I also felt like they skimped on the potatoes a little bit. The mammoth muffin was delicious though, named for its size. I chose an Apple cinnamon muffin but they also had blueberry, chocolate chip, banana, etc. Our waitress was extremely accommodating the entire time and made the experience a good one. I've been here a few of times, and I'm whether I've gotten timely waiter service any of the times. Granted, these times were after 10 pm, so most of the waiters seem to have left already. But while it's not super crowded late at night, there's still a fair amount of people coming to eat. It's a chain, and it's a slightly pricier chain than similar chains. The food's not bad. 16 of us showed up at this restaurant which had only one server due to the day and time of night. We showed up right after another large unexpected party. The manager got us seated and set up within minutes. And took our drink order right away. The waitress came through shortly thereafter and took our order. The food was great, Hot despite the crowd being so large, and the service was even better. I have to give it to them for the flawless execution. We were just coming from a 3 hour memorial service so everyone was tired and hungry and a bit stressed but the staff attitude made our night. This place is the ultimate Jekyl and Hyde. Great for breakfast, lots of egg stuff, French toast and of course pancakes. The coffee is pretty good for a diner. But what is objectionable is how bad dinner was 8/24/2013. Just gross. The items on the menu are geared towards people who do not like food, or are elderly and need soft, mushy, gooshy over-cooked and bland food. There was nothing on the menu that appealed to my wife and I. But we were with an 85 y/o relative who won't eat "young people food." His meal looked like it went through a machine to wash the flavor out of it. He ordered the pot roast of the senior's menu. The meat looked stringy and held none of it's original shape. Certainly not a nice chunk of meat. They put loads of gravy on the plate, then dropped a roll into it, leaving him to wonder how he could pick it up to cut it open and put butter on it. The apple sauce was right out of a can or jar--could get that at the Giant. So to be polite, my vegetarian wife and I ordered a plate of sweet potato fries just to be polite so we had something in front of us. They had no flavor and tasted freezer burned, I guess the elderly clientele don't order sweet potato fries because these were dried out and had no seasoning--not even salt. Then there was a little ramekin of apple butter (from a jar or can) I guess to dip the fries? It was terrible. Really, really bad. The restaurant itself was 80% empty at 5:30 pm. There were more employees than customers, yet there was a big chunk of paper on the dining room floor. Watched the manager and our server walk by it 10+ times. Our coffee carafe was dirty on the outside, so they don't clean the off between customers. Our server was pleasant as was the hostess/cashier. What happened to this place? Used to love going here in the 1980s for the grilled cheese or burgers. The menu needs an overhaul. The pictures of the salmon and turkey platters looked like they were of frozen TV dinners. In short, they don't care. But the pics of the breakfast food looked really good, but who wants a 2,500 calorie breakfast anyway? Seriously, the menu is unchanged in 30 years. They may have added salmon and turkey, but it is all frozen or from a can. You can buy a TV dinner for 1/2 the price. So if you are a Lehigh student and want a burger or a bite to eat, just walk down 4th Street and there are many trendy and hip options. Save Perkins for when the grandparents visit. And if you're a local under the age of 60 going here, I feel sorry for you--there are so many better options within 2 miles of here. Compare the cost of a burger here and with the brew pub and ask yourself why would you go to Perkins? In short, lunch/dinner at Perkins is for people that just don't like food or want to take a trip to the 1980s. read more

They make a decent omelette and my husband likes their cranberry muffins. I've actually always had great service at this location, unlike most chains in the Valley. Definitely an alright place. I went here late last night on a whim with a couple of friends. While nothing exceptional, this place is enjoyable. After devouring my bacon cheeseburger, I nibbled a bit on the breakfasts that my friends got. While the food is not amazing, I enjoyed it. The price, about 10-15 dollars per person isn't too bad. It is a little pricey for the quality of the food, but I honestly don't mind too much. The wait staff did seem to take their sweet old time with us, though. Sure, it was after eleven at night, but there were only two other tables occupied while we were there ... making me wonder what else was on their mind, aside from going home. While this place isn't necessarily bad, there isn't a whole lot that makes it stand out against the rest of the pack. At this point, it is very run of the mill. You can go here and probably get what you want, but I'll bet you won't be totally satisfied. Perkin's has what you want, but not enough to make it great. read more

My fiancee Angela and I love this place! So far, we've eaten there three different times and each time was just as good as the last. Our favorite meal that we both get as if we're one of those old couples, is the Steak Medley which comes with an amazingly flavored mash potato, cheese and garlic combination. Also, the vegetables have some really good sugar snap peas, broccoli and also mushrooms atop the juicy steak cubes! Mmm, I love talking about it, too. This meal comes with a slice of pie or cake afterwards and since they are a bakery, I have to tell you, this portion of the menu is extraordinary. As far as the service, it's pretty decent. The wait staff is very friendly and the view of the place is impeccable! I love how it's got its own little corner of the Southside, right off the bridge and dug deep into a valley-like cutout of the Earth. Sometimes from the parking lot, late night in the Spring, it reminds me of a scene in Dante's Peak! Ha, I have no idea why, but I like it. As for us being smokers, there are NO cigarette stations where you put out your smokes so yeah, that's pretty difficult. I mean, as a smoker, regardless of it being unhealthy and all that jazz, still, we desire an area that is accustomed to our smoking needs. The only reason I rated this Perkins a 4-star is because our third time coming here, which was a few days ago, my fiancee found some weird looking, crunchy hard little thing in her mashed potatoes which was completely unidentifiable and totally made me want to chunk all over the place. It actually smelled like feces, hardened, old and who knows where it came from! Ewwww. The good thing is, the Manager took very good care of us, taking 25% off the bill and spoke with us friendly and cordial enough for us to leave the waitress a decent tip. We enjoyed our time here and will definitely return for a 4th time, regardless of the situation with the 'strange mashed potatoes' because this location completely beats the Whitehall Perkins by far. read more

Been here and before many moons ago and it was fine. This time it wasn't so pleasing. I simply ordered Eggs in a hole over medium. Nope got them over hard and my family was almost already done with their food by the time I got them. Ask the waiter would you please return these over medium he saw they were over hard and apologized. This again took forever and now I'm sitting there everybody else is almost ready to leave so I got up went into the kitchen and told him to forget it just take it off my bill forget it. I go sit down out comes my food and yes you guessed it over hard again. And the bread was not even done just plain white bread. He says how is this and I said well you can see and he said I am so sorry about that I'm just going to take it off your bill...how hard is it for a chef or a cook to make an over medium egg? Went to lunch on Sunday October 2nd had to wait 10 minutes to be seated when they had tables open. The table we got didn't get wiped down very good and had to be cleaned again by our waitress. It took 20 minutes to get 2 grilled cheese sandwiches an omelette and pancakes. The grilled cheese sandwiches were terrible. The only thing good was our waitress and I felt sorry for her because she had too much to do and too many people to serve. OK, I'm not normally a big Perkins fan. I love their muffins, but the food is just average. But this specific Perkins gets BIG thumbs up, mainly for the service they gave me a few months ago. I went there for lunch with 2 of my friends and we all have baby boys around 1 1/2 years old. We were a bit nervous how this meal would go, because it was nearing their nap times, but we decided to try it out. I expected to get treated as an burden, w/ that many noisy boys. But it was the opposite! The host at the door was SO nice and accommodating, acting like we were his best friends, and getting us all the high chairs we needed, kids menus, crayons, etc. Making sure we were all set. Then our waitress was very kind too. The food was good and our babies behaved for the most part and the whole experience was great! I left there so impressed that I emailed them to say thank you. The manager of the store called me back personally to thank me for the compliments! So, Perkins has the basic chain diner food, and its good. Nothing amazing...except the cranberry orange muffins. But this South Side Perkins gets my loyalty from now on! read more

We came to Sands Bethlehem to hang out for a few days and as a post birthday celebration. The first morning we went to the Waffle House and it was so dirty that I didn't even eat anything. I didn't even touch my water. Day two we missed the free continental breakfast at the hotel so I did a search and found out there was a Perkins near by on West 3rd. We drove so this was literally 5 minutes from the hotel and despite contemplating spending $16 for room service with the possibility of being hungry as a bear 5 minutes later due to their small portions, we decided to go to Perkins. This was one of the best decisions of the trip! Let me tell you something those pancakes were MONEY! The potatoes that come with your breakfast if you opt for them are crispy golden carbs from Heaven! I usually get hash browns but those potatoes didn't disappoint and the bacon was crispy too! We were full and satisfied but what was even better was the service. Michelle was our waitress and she was sweet as can be! The last day of our stay we went back for breakfast (today) and Lyndsey was our waitress. She even told us about coupons we could get for the next time we come down. Even the manager welcomed us back and was happy to see us return! We are from Brooklyn, NY and so it is refreshing to find people who genuinely love to see you dine in their establishment and go above and beyond to make you feel welcome. I didn't want to leave! Go here -- ask for Michelle or Lyndsey and sign up for the coupons because Wednesday is buy one entree, get one free! Eat the breakfast potatoes too and thank me later and get a cinnamon roll too! Once in awhile you have a problem but generally the management is quick to correct it or let you know if they are having issues in the kitchen for some reason. Once walk into the door normally check in on other social media check in sites average wait from order to getting food is 15min if not too busy. Majority of the wait staff are quick to your needs. Once in awhile you will get someone slow but thats every place. We generally frequent this one or the restaurant on 191 and bakery is always great. read more
