So this is my VERY first time in a Perkins, ever. I THINK my first ever visit to a Custers was the one across the parking lot too They had a burger/fry/pie deal for $11. Seems like a good deal, so decided to give them a try. Despite the overall cleanliness of the restaurant, upon entering it smells like butt, or SOMETHING. I dunno, it just smells weird. I was seated fairly quickly and my server is nice. I kinda wanted a certain sauce on my burger but I had to order a "smash burger". (Remember when smashing meat was a taboo? Well it still is, and I typically don't go into places that advertise "smashburgers") I was offered ketchup and mustard, so thats a bummer. The fries are actually really good. The burger, just basic. I like cheese, I like burgers, but I hate cheeseburgers. This particular cheeseburger has that type of government cheese.. ya know, the kind that doesn't melt? Yuk. I got the wildberry pie. It was ok i guess. A lot of unnecessary carbs today. It was decent enough for me to come back to one. I placed a to-go order for four meals. Upon pickup, we noticed that the classic cheeseburger and hash browns were incorrect. When I returned to inform the hostess of the mistake, she was noticeably rude and required that we bring all the food back inside--even though the rest of my family had already been eating for over 15 minutes, as it took quite some time for anyone to assist me at the counter again. I was told the incorrect items would be remade; however, when the food was brought back out, it was clear that the burger had not actually been remade. The bun was still covered in barbecue sauce and had bacon pieces on it, indicating that the toppings had simply been scraped off rather than freshly remade. read more

Sunday at 10am. Before the church crowd, but being right on the interstate I don't think that would be a factor. Got seated right away. The waitress was kind. I went to order the eggs benedict /California, which would include avocado, and sure enough, they were out of avocado. Really? This early in the day? How disappointing. I got the ham and egg omelet instead. This was disappointing. I could only taste the over whelming amount of velvetta cheese. I couldn't finish it. Ask for Staci!!! We were staying in clear lake Iowa for a week for work. We do not have Perkins in Texas and my father loves their pancakes. We ate here 3 times as the hotel breakfast was bla and had Staci S as our waitress every morning. She was a ray of sunshine!!!! So happy and energized to be working prompt with service and refills on drinks. The food came out hot and right every morning. This place is a must for breakfast lunch or dinner. Perkins is a chain restaurant. I havent been to ine in a while, but was travelling and thought I would stop in for dinner. They offer Burgers, fish steak and full breakfast menu. Also known for their bakery and pies. I tried the burger special which comes with fries and desert, piece of pie. The burgers dont resemble the big juicy ones in the menu pictures. They are thinner and only cooked well done. While the burger was still acceptable, it was really just average but good.. On to the pie. I ordered the Coconut Cream pie. Looked delicious in the display and in the picture. What i was servered was a GLOB of pie goo. The waitress said it did not come out right. Huh???. Anyway, I sent it back and asked the manager for a different pie slice - not coconut. I asked for the Heath cheesecake pie. While this time it looked like a slice of pie, it still was just blah. It had been awhile since I'd been to this Perkins Restaurant (normally have Sunday breakfast at a place about a mile south), but they sent me some decent coupons and I figured it was worth a try again. I was wrong. The place was, maybe, 40% full and we still had to wait 20 minutes to be seated (cook shortage perhaps??) and food prices have gone up probably 25% since I was last here. Service was good, food was good but waaaay overpriced. Even with the 20% discount coupon , the meal was still more than a comparable meal at our usual place, which we will return to next Sunday. I wish I had thought to take a picture of the food, but I did't know how much we would enjoy it! Food was outstanding! We had the 55+ brioche French toast, potato cakes and the triple egg dare you. Although a bit of a different take on potato cakes than I am used to the taste was out of this world. My husband said his hash browns were some of the best he has ever had. The food at this place is not horrible, but the issue is our complaining server. When we entered the restaurant he already had an attitude and was rude, but my main complaints were from after we paid. We were with a party of 10 so they had to prepare for like 5 mins so after we all ate we used like 1 hour 20mins ish of his time and we tipped a hefty 40$ for his time. After he tipped he was somewhat angry and behind our backs made angry statements with the intention of us to hear. Then he walked up to us and told us he wasted his whole day for a few dollars. This place was pathetic. We sat for an hour and half waiting for our food. She walked by multiple times without asking if we wanted refills, she never apologized for our food taking too long. Card was returned and I was informed card transaction cancelled. Paid bill with cash and included tip. Later discovered that transaction was not canceled. $10 meal actually cost me over $23. We must have went on an off day. We were seated by the kitchen and got to listen to the waitstaff yell at everyone. Granted they were a little busy, it was lunchtime, I don't believe that is cause for rude service. The plate I ordered, fish and shrimp served on rice with broccoli, was warm at best. The fish was flavorless with small bones, the shrimp had good flavor but was rubbery, the rice was extremely dry, and the broccoli was tasty but cold. I had asked for a water because the sweet tea was nasty and finally got the water at the end of my meal. And still paid for the tea (which isn't a big deal). One in our group has garlic and onion allergies and stated that when ordering and specifically asked about certain foods. One of those foods were the green beans. You could tell they had onion and garlic flavor in them. With that, either the waitstaff needs better training or the particular waitress we had needs better training. If she didn't know she should have checked. Also, we got to listen to her cuss about other tables and staff while we waited on our check. We stop here about once or twice a year, we don't have Perkins in Oklahoma. If this had been my 1st time I would not be back. I don't say this lightly, I try to give the benefit of the doubt, but this time was not the usually good experience we normally have. read more

After driving for 4 hours Clear Lake is nice place to stop, refuel and grab a quick bite to eat. Given it is Christmas Day, the only place that is open, outside of gas stations is Perkins. So thank you to the staff of Perkins for working on Christmas Day and taking care of us road weary travelers. I know you would rather be with your family than seeing us. As for the review of the restaurant. As usual the food was delicious. Prompt service even though it was petty obvious they could use a few more people today helping out. My granddaughter and i stopped in just for a slice of french silk pie/drink on February 24, 2016. I just want to say our waitress Brandi had a true personality. She was so pleasant and attentive even with our small order. I notice with the other customers she was the same!
