Geez I sure wish we had Perlys in Bethesda. This place would do amazing. We had a fantastic breakfast at Perlys. We made sure to arrive early and there was already a line out of the door at 9am. We waited till 930 for a seat because we knew it would be worth it, and it certainly was worth every minute. Before you order any other dish, do not look past the duck and potato pierogis. It made me want to find out the recipe so I could have it over and over, it was that good. My husband ordered the Benny Goodman which was damn good and highly recommended. For my entree, I played it safe and ordered the breakfast bagel Sammy with pumpernickel bagel and smoked turkey. It too was delicious but definitely more basic. We shared a Tel Aviv trio and everything on that platter complimented the rest of our dishes. I wish I had room to try more! Can't wait to come back and try more dishes at Perlys. Can someone say amazing food. While traveling south passing through Richmond my husband and I decided to grab a quick bite to eat. After seeing all the great reviews for Perly's I insisted that we dine in and so glad we did. We found parking on the street not far from the restaurant, it was around 1030am on a Wednesday. The restaurant was crowded and we didn't have a lot of time so we sat at the bar. The staff was friendly and the service was excellent. The ambiance was welcoming and definitely a place I would visit often if I lived in Richmond. They had a silent film playing which was cool, so I watched it while eating. Let's get into the food. I ordered the Benny Goodman which came with potato latkes topped with smoked salmon, poached eggs*, dill hollandaise & salmon roe. The combination of flavors worked well together, it was so delicious that as I'm writing this my mouth is watering. My husband had the Cinnamon Babka French Toast with stewed apples, golden raisins and pecans. His meal was so yummy and definitely up there with some of the best French toast we've had. Prices are reasonable and portions are large, I was only able to eat half. Everything was clean including the restroom. My favorite restaurant in richmond! Plan to wait forever and for it to be entirely worth it. Whatever you get will be awesome. Especially the matzo ball soup, bagels with cream cheese, pickles, eggs, Reuben sandwich, latkes, etc. The service is always great and I never feel rushed even though it's totally packed always. Overall, this was the best meal I had in Richmond. The wait to get a seat is well worth it. I would recommend this place to anyone - get the Shapiro Schnitzel! To start: -Cup of Borscht: beet soup, $3.00, so good! -Potato Latkes: two latkes with chive sour cream and applesauce, this was actually my least favorite thing we ordered (which is surprising I know). Don't get me wrong, they were still good with little pieces of salt on top, but I expected more from them? Also, I wished they would have come with more chive sour cream and applesauce. We wanted to grab breakfast at Perly's one Saturday morning while we were in Richmond. We only arrived about 10 minutes after it opened, but the whole place was already packed. The wait for a table was 45 minutes, so we decided to grab food to go. The girl at the front was very friendly. She took our orders and threw in a cookie for free! Probably because she noticed my best friend's "Bride to Be" sash. Which was nice of her, and we appreciate it! Food portions were huge and there were so many layers of meat. I had the Jewbano, which I thought was tasty, but the brisket had a bit too much fat. I would love to come back and try their other sandwiches though. Decided to check out Perly's after reading many wonderful reviews. We arrived around noon and waited about 45 min. It was very busy but you could tell everyone was enjoying their meals and eager to be there! Once seated, we ordered crispy Brussels sprouts which came out quickly and were SO delicious. Every single sprout was perfectly seasoned with a nice crunch sitting over a spread of creamy labneh and pomegranate seeds. Our sandwiches (Reuben and Sub Snyderman) came with a pickle and a choice of a side of fries, potato chips, potato salad or a cole slaw. We opted for fries and slaw and enjoyed both! The Reuben was definitely on the heavier side but worth it. The Sub Snyderman was also flavorful and loaded! Be warned- these are not the prettiest to eat (we used so many napkins) but they are surely tasty! If you are visiting Richmond, we recommend stopping by for a bite! read more

Happened upon this place by accident looking for another breakfast spot near our Airbnb. We got so lucky!! We went back a few times on our trip. Every single item we ate was amazing. Benny Goodman potato latkes and blintzes were some of my favorites. Plus there is a fantastic market next door to grabbed snacks, fresh lunches, or even dinners. Worth. The. Hype! Man, I'm not going to say anything new that hasn't already been said but Perly's exceeded my expectations. My friend and I went for Sunday brunch and shared The Schnorrer and a Fish Board to take full advantage of our experience. Everything was so delicious. The bagels were fresh and for the first time, I had pickled eggs which were a beautiful purple color. I think the best I can offer for the Yelp community is this trick I noticed. I'm not sure if this is the norm but we were told the wait on Sunday for brunch would be an hour and a half. We put our name on a list and then went over to Ironclad to get some coffee. Within 45 minutes the phone was ringing telling us we were up. Luckily we were able to stay at the top of the list as we drove back to grab our table. We were seated at the front in one of the big round tables and I could hear the hostess telling everyone the wait was an hour and a half. It turned a lot of people away (which I think was the point) but it seemed like people were getting seated in under an hour. This place is BUSY. If you are not there when it opens plan to wait for a table especially on the weekend. We waited an hour to be seated. The staff was friendly and efficient. Coffee came quick. Fabulous. Tastes like a true Jewish deli, feels like it's straight out of New York. Diner atmosphere with 40s/50s jazz in the background, friendly service, and absolutely excellent food. Latkes: Incredibly crispy outside, flavorful and almost creamy inside. The apricot applesauce and chive (?) sour cream were perfect complements. Jewish egg rolls: Tasty. The two sauces were also excellent. Dill French fries: Perfect fries. About as thick as your finger with the right crunch. Light batter on the outside, beautifully creamy potato inside. Great flavor and seasoning, we didn't even need any condiments! CINNAMON BABKA FRENCH TOAST: Omg, this was amazing. I got a waft of the plate as it was passed by me and I swear it was like a cartoon of my nose following the scrumptious aroma. It wasn't too sweet. It came with carmelized peaches on top. Delectable, utterly delectable. RUBEN: If you're craving more savory than sweet, I 100% recommend the Ruben. I don't even LIKE Rubens. But this was FANTASTIC. It was so good, we ordered an extra one to go for dinner later on. Life is full of hard choices, and one of those hard choices will be deciding between the Ruben and French toast the next time we come here. Perly's was highly recommended to us by folks in the area so we decided to give it a shot. This restaurant definitely has a style in point of view: Retro wallpaper and booths with Grateful Dead playing in the background (rather loudly). Definitely a first for a delicatessen. They definitely have a point of view in regards to a pastrami sandwich. The rye bread comes drenched in melted butter which makes for kind of a drippy, greasy sandwich. I've never seen a pastrami sandwich with melted butter in my life and it is not "authentic" but I have to admit it was delicious. The pastrami was rich and flavorful. The basil garlic fries that accompanied the sandwich were outstanding. We loved the matzoh ball soup. The broth was rich and the chicken was tender and juicy. The matzoh ball was gigantic and nicely textured. The basil on the matzoh ball overwhelmed the flavor so I simply brushed it off. Overall the soup was outstanding! Unfortunately I can't say the same for the chop liver appetizer. My wife is a big fan of chopped liver and she is convinced it was made with beef liver. If it was in fact made with chicken livers we found the texture unappealing and tough.The eggs are served on top - in our experience, most recipes call for chopped liver to be made WITH eggs. We were disappointed. The service was friendly, attentive and accommodating. Perly's definitely has a fun atmosphere. We have been there before and were dying to come back. This morning the rudest and most disrespectful hostest itentionally did not seat us when we were first on the list . When my husband went to ask she intentionally ignored him and wouldnt even listen. After 20 minutes I asked to see list and 20 names after ours were crossed out and she had skipped us on purpose. I have never had anyone do that to me and was very offended. I am a teacher and preach kindness, respect and tolerance. This person had none.
