I went in to get a tuneup after moving to the area and rather than charge me full price for the end-to-end service, they only fixed the couple of issues that were out of whack after the move. After returning my bike to peak operating form, they put me on the fitting rack to ensure everything was properly positioned. A couple of quick, expert tweaks later, I and my nearly 20 year old bike were back on the road running better than we had in a long time. read more

We biked here from the edge of town. We just needed a screw for a mirror. We were prepared to buy a new mirror but they found the proper screw so we were able to reassemble it They were very friendly and even recommended a couple of places for lunch. Very nice bike shop. read more

I went to Perry Rubber today for two reasons. The first was to purchase a new e-bike. The second was because as I was on my way to Perry Rubber, the bolt that held my seat onto my bike broke, and I wanted to see if they could help. When I arrived, the young, skinny gentleman who had previously helped me was busy with another customer, and a middle aged Asian gentleman greeted me. I explained how the bolt on my bike broke and asked if he had a replacement or temporary fix. He laughed in my face and told me to go to Home Depot. I explained that my bike is my only form of transportation, and asked if he could at least ask the mechanic in the back. He reluctantly agreed to ask, and again, he came back and said there was nothing they could do, go to Home Depot. I got back on my seat-less bike and made my way to Savannah on Wheels, where they didn't have a bolt that worked, but replaced the bike seat post instead, a resolution Perry Rubber easily could have suggested. I will not be purchasing a bike from Perry Rubber after the clear lack of customer service or empathy this individual exhibited. Not being able to use a bike might seem like a minor inconvenience, but when it is your sole mode of transportation it can be frustrating and upsetting. I was in the market for a new mountain bike recently and looked here and while I did not buy a new bike here (they didn't have any of the models I wanted in stock plus I was more interested in another brand) I was very impressed by their staff and attitude. Indeed, of the Savannah bike shops I've visited, all have had awesome people working there. I've not met anyone at any who rubbed me the wrong way at all. Yet the professionalism of the Perry Rubber crew was a cut above. The only negative I can say about this shop is, at both of their locations they do not have much in the way of high-end mountain bikes, maybe one or two, and they say the local market simply doesn't support carrying more. That's fair enough, I understand you don't stock what won't sell, certainly. And they can order anything, but I like seeing a bike in person before deciding on it--I guess if they order you something and you really dislike it you'd not have to buy it, but still seems awkward. Their selection of road bikes however covers the gamut and is really impressive. They're a Specialized dealer and seem to really know the brand--I can tell because I've had Specialized bikes and know the brand myself pretty well. Anyone who can teach me something new about this brand has my immediate respect. If you're in the market for Specialized or a road bike in general I'd highly recommend these folks. For other brands/bikes, I'd recommend Quality Bikes across town. Both shops are first-rate. read more

What a great experience! My hubby is a bicycle mechanic and I'm a complete bike novice. The staff was awesome and kind and helpful! They shared a good 30 mile ride we could do from Savannah. This is a great neighborhood bike shop. While on vacation we stopped by Perry Rubber to rent some bikes for the afternoon. We were outfitted with two suitably comfortable cruisers (see picture), each with baskets, a bike lock and optional helmets. It took my husband and I a few minutes to stop wobbling on the bikes (we ride mountain and road bikes, respectively) but once we got used to them they were a breeze. Employees were friendly and helpful- they even held onto some of our sweets for us while we tootled around. I highly recommend bikes as a way to tour Savannah. Yes, Savannah is a great walking city but it also fun to mix it up on the bikes. Nothing is more than a 2 minute bike and there are plenty of places to secure the bikes. Just stay away from the major streets, like Bay Street, all the others are low traffic (or at least used to tourists on bikes, horse drawn carriages, walking tours, etc) and feel pretty safe. Rentals are $20 for half day (4 hours) or $35 for a full day. Have fun! read more

I purchased a new specialized cirrus 4.0 from here and only a week later had problems with bike. The cranks kept getting loose. I took the bike back to them 3x to fix it and they attested they had, but it continued to come lose and I lost confidence it would continue to happen. This was obviously an inconvenience to repeatedly take it in, only for it to happen again, but I was also not able to ride. After the 3rd attempt, I asked for either a replacement bike (different model) or my money back. Both the "manager" and the owner I spoke with were very rude, repeatedly interrupted me, and refused to do anything but continue to do what they had already done and failed at 3x. The owner ended up calling me rude and arrogant for expressing my dissatisfaction and hung up on me. I now have to work with specialized directly in hopes of getting resolution. Bottom line, initially it was a good experience, just pray nothing goes wrong because they have zero customer service and you are SOL. read more

I've been in Savannah visiting for a couple of days! For the first two days, I noticed a lot of people biking within the city. & overheard that the best way to explore is to rent a bike! I originally called "Savannah on Wheels" a few times but they never contacted me back. (Your loss!) I ended up just walking in here and I'm so happy I did! I was greeted instantly and helped right away. He said for 4 hours, it would be $20 which is really reasonably priced! I started at 12pm (needed to come back by 4pm) but he said to come by 5 and gave me an extra hour free to explore this beautiful, charming city! I appreciated his kindness :) thank you, sir! Talking to a nice enough lady, things were going well, and she straight walks off in the middle of talking to me to begin talking to another lady with a dog and I'm just standing there like wtf just happened. When we wheeled our doggy stroller (yes, we have a stroller for our reactive dog...) with woefully underinflated tires up to their door and asked for a pump, they didn't hesitate to help. Bought a bike on Monday morning for my wife. This morning, she was out on her first real ride and the crank arm came off her bike about 12 miles from home. I went to get her, loaded the bike on the back and we took a drive back to Savannah after breakfast to the shop. They fixed it and adjusted the bike for her and taught her some things about it. Great white glove service I could really have written a business case in school about how they treated us. "So sorry that came off. I hope you weren't hurt. We'll take care of it right away. And I'm glad you came along to be fitted" The associate spent 45-60 minutes with her, teaching the whole time. All so you get the same love of cycling that they have. He was knowledgable and credible about fitness beyond biking, talked her through target heart rate zones, explained why we position you on the bike this way, how this bike will feel different from the cruiser she'd been using, and the next steps she should take on this bike before thinking about adding to it or upgrading to the next read more

I wanted to rent a bike and although this place is a bit pricier (not by much) than it's other competitors, it really was worth it. I walked into the shop and was helped immediately. I chose the half day option, but was told if I wanted to extend I can just call and it wouldn't be a problem. The bike came with a helmet and lock and then they gave me a map of Savannah and suggested different sites to check out. I would highly recommend this shop to everyone. This is my favorite bike shop in Savannah. I could make fun of the bike culture around here all day and often do, especially when I see people with handle bars that are installed wrong and more expensive than their bikes. Perry Rubber, on the other hand, knows how to do things right. Feeling a little 'tired' and 'deflated'? Well, the friendly people and spot-on bike mechanics can 'handle' whatever it is your bike needs. Their fun attitude and weekly shop bike rides will definitely get you 'pumped'. I should add those shop bike rides are open to anyone who wants to join. I should also stop re'cycling' bad puns... Saturday mornings are the big rides and the shop usually has bagels and other treats for the riders and customers after the ride. On the weekdays, they usually do a minimum of an hour ride. Everyone is at different skill levels and they make sure to take that into account and are all about just having fun. Other than being the most fun group of people to head out on a bike with, the shop has a great selection of (mostly) road bikes. They're a Specialized shop, so that's mostly what you'll find in the way of bikes. Rentals are also something they do and I get the impression the prices are pretty fair. Since I'm already pretty set up with my bikes, I mostly look for a shop with good mechanics. I can usually figure out what's wrong with my bike, but it's nice to have some trustworthy people around who can take care of any little problem quickly. I've seen them take on some bigger jobs with all the tacky fixed gear conversions around and they'll do just what you need and make anything classy and give you the right advice for you and your bike. read more

I'm going to write a new review because I am extremely satisfied with Perry Rubber. They continually do such a fine job for me and recently have gone out of their way to satisfy a mistake from the actual manufacturer. I wear tires doing at least 22 miles a day -- every day. My bicycle is my means of transportation for everything by choice because it keeps me very healthy. Dave, the owner and Edgemont, a professional cyclist who works there, know this and do an over-the-top job of keeping me going on my Salsa X3 Touring. My back tire was bald so I was getting flat after flat and ordered a tire. It came in, good time except that the manufacturer labeled the tire wrong and it was too small. I tried to shove an inner-tube in and the tire was tagged with the right size-wrong tire. Edgemont took note, apologized and got a new tire for me to borrow (a city tire and I ordered a touring) noting that my tire was bald, shoved a new inner-tube in it and installed it on my bike. I was astonished! NOBODY does this kind of service! "Go on, Buddy, get where you're going in good health. I'll alert you when the right tire comes in," Edge said. What a great Bike Shop! While on vacation in Savannah, the perfect day consisted of bike rentals from here, cruising to every Square (photos for Forrest Gump / Chipewa Square, the old Cemetary, the marketplace, etc). Their prices were slightly higher than their competitors (two other rental shops) but this place had much better bikes and included lift on/off baskets and bike locks that made it easy to lock up the bike and go shopping in one of Savannah's many boutiques without leaving personal items or purchases behind. We rented for a half day (four hours) but called back and extended to a full day ... we were having such a good time! As a helpful note ... you should really see Savannah from a bike. You can whiz around faster, find better parking (bike racks are everywhere), and carry a to go cup of your favorite beverage! read more

As I approach age 60, I can say I have about 45 years of experience as a bike shop customer at shops all around the country. My bikes include a 1949 Raleigh Lenton Sport ("club racer"), a '69 Rudge, '72 Schwinn Collegiate, an upgraded Jamis Quest ('07, steel!), and a Trek Fuel 8.x. All this is to say that I have had plenty of reasons to visit shops. As I travel the country, I almost always rent a bike when visiting a city. That need brought me into Perry Rubber. Short story is, I was treated like a local -- like an owner, really -- from the moment I stepped into the place, to a person, each employee acted on my behalf and spent plenty of time making sure my needs were met, even though I was just renting a road bike for 24 hours, and they knew full well I was just passing through. I even joined in the Monday night group ride. Five stars are not enough. read more

I came here after going to a different bicycle repair shop. I should have gone to Perry Rubber in the first place but didn't cause it looks so nice and I assumed it would be too expensive. I was dead wrong. The other repair shop completely ripped me off. They told me not to replace a tire that was obviously very damaged and finished. So I replaced a tube twice and paid a crazy price. I can repair and replace my own tubes but I just moved here and my tools and supplies were still packed up but I didn't want that to stop be from riding my bike. Anyway, I stopped by Perry Rubber and they repaired my flat and sold me a new tire for a very reasonable price that was actually cheaper than what I would have paid to buy the tire online and do it myself. Not only that but the people who work in the shop are really nice and approachable. Very hospitable and helpful. They have a nice selection of some beautiful bikes in that shop. They are kind of expensive but at the same time they are just beautiful bicycles. If I ever need more maintenance done to my bicycle that I can't render myself I definitely plan on throwing more of my business at Perry Rubber. The shop looks expensive because it's attractive and they take care of it but that doesn't mean that they rip you off or cost you an arm and a leg. A few years back, my husband and I decided to buy our first road bikes, I ended up buying a used one off Craig's List and my hubby kept looking. We went to all the bike shops in town, got a feel for their products and customer service, and I must say that Perry Rubber was the clear stand-out among them. Whereas the other shops did a proficient job of explaining things to us, it felt as if they really didn't care one way or the other what we bought, or in one case IF we bought anything from them, but at Perry Rubber, the atmosphere is completely customer-oriented. Not only did they help us figure out which bike to get, they offered to help us research even a brand they don't carry for comparison sake. They are extremely knowledgeable, willing to take the time to guide and educate the novice customer, as well as keep pace (haha!) with any experienced cyclist customers as well. We never felt intimidated or unwelcome as we felt at one other store in town, and it was clear that Perry Rubber staff was only interested in fostering in us the same love of cycling that they feel. This was a big part in our choosing to buy a very nice Specialized road bike from them. They even became my go-to when my own Craig's List bike needs service. Go check them out. Go. Now... New bikes, comfortable seats and a basket on the front. We easily rode around the squares and out further. To end our biking we picked up a treat from the chocolatier next door. This 6 star review is well overdue. New to the area I was desperate to find a good bike shop that knew what they were doing. Did i hit the jackpot with Perry-they are friendly, warm and a well oiled machine. After getting my bike serviced three times they were the only ones able to find and actually fix the issue to make my bike good as new. Months after i found myself with a flat and although they are extremely busy they were able to do a quick turnaround time so i could be on my merry way.
