I was with some colleagues and they wanted lunch. I've drove past "Perry's Restaurant" for years and never went. I told everyone, I know where to go. Perry's was my next visit. We were pretty close to the restaurant. When we arrived, the parking lot was packed. It's small, so it took time finding a spot. Outside the building is dated. However there were hungry people so we went in. Inside was surprisingly nice. It had a modern feel, with dark half walls. The gentleman at the counter told us to sit where we wanted. So we took a large round table, once we all ordered, we talked while we waited. When the food came out, we were amazed by the large portions. I only wish I didn't eat the bread they put on the table. But now it was time to eat and review. My meal was okay. The burger was good, but the French fries lacked. They gave mayo packets instead of a scoop in a bowl. Last my seltzer was okay, not as cold as I would like. Either way, I would go again, my team, loved the food. Maybe I'm just too high maintenance for a burger spot, but, who am I kidding , I like what I like, and French fries matter.

Great family staff Large servings and reasonable prices. Parking lot is a bonus and was just redone. Inside boothe are being replaced too! This is a hidden gem in Brooklyn

    Mexican Burger

Portions were decent, though they didn't break down the cabbage to wash it properly. I had the Mexican burger, which was nicely cooked to a perfect medium rare--juicy and tender. But the meat itself lacked seasoning, and the jalapeño pepper jack cheese and tomato salsa didn't add much flavor either. Overall, it was missing that bold, spicy kick you'd expect from something called a Mexican burger.

Lobster Bisque - do not recommend :(

Service is excellent but the food is hit or miss. They have an extensive menu, which is a double-edged sword because yes, there's lots of variety, but it's at a loss of quality and specialization. We came here for a family lunch and the restaurant was super accommodating. I was greeted immediately when I entered the restaurant, and you can feel the genuine hospitality. Service came around often and they were responsive to needs and requests. Since it was lunchtime, we couldn't resist ordering their lunch specials - comes with soup or salad, a side (fries, potato, or veg), coffee or tea, and dessert! In addition to dinner rolls and breadsticks, the table was also offered a complimentary plate of chickpeas, coleslaw, and pickles to start the meal - all were tasty. For soup offerings, they had lobster bisque, clam chowder, chicken noodle, and matzah ball soup. The lobster bisque sounds alluring, but it was a big miss. The texture and flavor was thick and creamy in a floury and bland way... we asked to exchange the soup and they did so without any fuss. I exchanged it for the matzo ball soup which is just chicken noodle soup and a matzo ball on the side. The matzo ball by itself was bland, but if you drop it in the broth like you're supposed to, it absorbs some of the flavor. The chicken noodle soup could've used more seasoning overall. Also a note about the clam chowder, for some reason, I assumed New England (white) clam chowder, but it's actually Manhattan (red/orange) clam chowder, naturally (when in New York...). The clam chowder was basically minestrone with some clams thrown in. The inclusion of the soup with the lunch special is a nice gesture, but I'll pass next time. My entree was much more pleasant. I ordered the gyro platter which came with fries, a Greek side salad, and garnished with an onion ring - a platter indeed! The lamb gyro meat was tender and flavorful. It comes in a pita and with tzatziki sauce, and you can fill the pita with some of the Greek salad for a hearty wrap. No complaints with my entree. Since it's a Greek-family restaurant, you can't go wrong with the Greek food. The breakfast dishes also looked solid. We came with a large party, so instead of an individual dessert choice for lunch, it ended up being a whole cake to share (it was someone's birthday so they also brought out candles and sang). I would've liked to explore other cake flavors on their menu, but I understand the trade-off of serving a large party. I do highly commend the staff. Not only is Perry's a family-owned restaurant, but it also FEELS like a family-owned restaurant. They welcome customers like family, and it's no wonder why people will keep coming back.

The Caesar salad was a knockout as was the burger. With the passage of time I can't recall the particulars of the Fitzcarraldo but I liked it. It was priced like one might expect in an ironically named Brooklyn venue but they were generous with the good stuff. Even the bread was impressive. So this isn't my usual spot but I'm glad that more highbrow out-of-town friends chose it. The absence of a formal menu in favor of the server writing down the day's option may be a gimmick, but after a few bites I was swayed. Better to be king for a day than dollar pizza for a lifetime.

Are you gonna get an airy twink as a server who wants to go back to Bushwick and lets you know that at every second, or are you going to get a serious experience with a focused, professional server. Ya never know. This used to be part of the charm, but now it's a liability because friends (and other chefs in the neighborhood) never want to go to Diner because...ya never know what it'll be. Diner has never coasted on continuity. They change up the menu every day. They write it on the paper tablecloth, for Chrissakes. But I still love that! I still find most of the food to be delicious (if pricey), I still think their cocktails are well-made (even if their bar is weirdly slow) and I love their brunch and I love the vibe, and I'm glad it's still here. Their Caesar salad is overrated, as is the burger, but they're always mixing it up. You could get lucky. Ya never know...

But if you're looking for some excellent, straight forward, wonderfully crafted simplicity, this is in your wheelhouse. A quesadilla is a quesadilla, a hamburger a hamburger. Sounds boring? Not when your hamburger and quesadilla are amongst the best you've ever had at any diner, anywhere. Our waitress was very nice and allowed us to dine, unbothered. We ordered a fresh fruit platter for dessert. It included watermelon, mango, grapes, apples, strawberries, etc. very nice, well presented. The dining area certainly belies what happens in that kitchen behind the door. I'll be back to try some more simple, but excellent food.

This spot has a handful of tables and while we were there, quite a few to-go orders were picked up as well. Though we were the only diners, so I assume it's more of a breakfast/brunch spot. The menu is rather expansive with options from breakfast to lunch and dinner. After studying the menu, we opted for the Veggie Burger and the Meatball Parm Po'Boy. Our food was ready in about 20 minutes, which seemed a little long as we were the only diners, but we were not in a rush so it was fine. As the restaurant was unassuming, I honestly had pretty low expectations, but we both really enjoyed our meals. It was definitely large portions and really flavorful. My fiance said the Meatball Parm Po'Boy was delicious and I appreciated that the veggie burger seemed to be made in house as it was falling apart (in a good way) and you could distinguish some of the veggies. I ended up only eating about half of my burger and took the rest for lunch the next day and it held up well.

While they have all the traditional breakfast fare, I was so happy to see it also had a Caribbean twist to it. Lastly, we got a Caribbean omelet. My rice and pernil was solid. The rice could've used a tad bit more seasoning but when mixed with the side of beans and plantains plus a drizzle of hot sauce it was perfect. They had a variety of sauces--Tabasco (my fave), a Jamaican one that was super spicy, and a mild homemade one. The tres/quatro golpes was also a hearty choice with mangu (mashed plantain), sausage, fried cheese, and eggs. The pickled red onion balanced everything out. The fried cheese is similar to a halloumi but I think it's a bit more flavorful. All the flavors just melt together in your mouth perfectly. The French toast and omelet were good. I'd say the Caribbean items stole the show though. The place has a typical diner vibe and is on the small side. Food was served quickly and service was good. Discount if you pay in cash.
