Let me start by YUMM. I don't do 5s, it provides no room for improvement unless I am completely blown away. I was looking for something quick and close for lunch 0.5 miles from work, no one in line when I walked in. I took a bit to figure out what to order and decided on a 1/2 chicken 1/4 white and 1/4 dark, yucca, and, red salsa for my sides with an addition of slaw. It comes with two mayo mixed dipping sauces and a green salsa that has a nice refreshing flavor and only a little heat. The sides: Coleslaw - Nice flavor, not too sweet, well balanced with its flavor, texture and moisture. Yucca - A nice crunch, probably would have been even better if I ate there and not drove back to work. The yucca is dry and for me it does need the dipping sauce or maybe even a hot sauce. Salsa - refreshing. The chicken was delicious, tender and juicy. The dark more than the white but the white was by no means dry. What a great place. By the time I got my order (less than 5 minutes) there was a line out the door. read more

Their chicken is flavorless and dry, it's possibly the worst chicken I have ever eaten. Not only was their food awful the atmosphere looks old and dirty, the bathrooms smell funny. The owner had a bad attitude and was very rude, the only reason people go to this restaurant is because there hasn't been any competition in Winchester for this style of cuisine, once Peruvian chicken restaurants from Arlington and Annandale move to Winchester nobody in their right mind would come to this tasteless restaurant. Basically we found the chicken at Peru's was just okay. Same with the flan. The exception was the delicious unusual yucca side. It's a basic cluttered fast food place off the avenue in the back of a small shopping mall. The service seemed friendly but there was some confusion picking up the preorder mainly due to the language barrier and the dessert was missing in the order. read more

I'll start with, I drive 30 miles for the whole Peruvian Chicken and really nothing else. The chicken is so good I usually get 2 and freeze one for a later family meal. Peru's Chicken Restaurant is located in a small and dated office park just off Valley Pike in south Winchester. The hard working and friendly people who work at Peru's Chicken as well as the phenomenal chicken keep me coming back in spite of the distance and the lack of beautiful amenities. I've had Peruvian Chicken at many places around the DMV and across the US and this is one of the best! Gentle smoke and medium spice. I love this place, give it a try and you will know why. I love this place. I'm visiting my mom and there aren't a lot of places that I've been a repeat customer of, however, Peru's chicken has totally won my repeat business. I always get the same things: 1/4 chicken white with black beans and fried yucca. Extra green and white sauces. The chicken is so juicy and flavorful. The black beans are yummy and as for the yucca, you can't go wrong with fried yucca. Ever!!! Cheese steak sandwich - best cheesesteak around town! We ordered through their Slice app because that is what they "prefer". they completely messed up the order after we drove over 30 minutes each way to go get the food. Then when we called Elisio first stated that the missing items were in another container but he never gave it to me. He then stated he cannot give us credit for the missing items until maybe some time tomorrow. Do not bother with this establishment. There are plenty of other Peruvian chicken places that actually want to take care of their customers and make sure they give them everything they have paid for. I'm officially done with Peru's--they can stay in business without me. Their rotisserie chicken and spice rub is truly magnificent. That's the truth. Where they diverge is their consistently abysmal lack of friendliness, an almost oppressive atmosphere where you are somehow hurting them by giving them your order. I don't get it and it's like that with everyone there. My last visit (and I mean LAST) after dropping $30 and proactively including a tip I asked if I could have a few more Aji verde sauces and the guy asked how many I wanted. I kindly said, "3" he then said I'll have to charge you. I just said forget it. I had purchased the big family pack. He would have included the same amount of sauces had I ordered a sandwich or burrito. He could tell I was upset, and he did not care. At all. OK, buddy, you won. Way to treat your customers. There is a totally different experience over at Aroma Deli (even better chicken) which I vastly prefer. Peru's Chicken has some decent flavor and is better than their counterpart a little further south in Harrisonburg, VA. However, the "Pollo a la brasa" is just Pollo......definitely not Pardo's. It is a heavily Americanized as the menu had items such as hamburgers, burritos, and cheesesteaks (placing th word "peruvian" before or after to give the air of authenticity) The salad needs lime, but was just iceberg and carrots with a small side of ranch. The papa's were delicious. That being said for two 1/4 chickens, two sides, and two Inca colas we paid about $20. read more

I wish they had more options like; lomo saltado, ceviche, tallarin verde, papa rellena, homemade chicha morada etc. I lived my whole life in NoVA and am used to so much diversity in foods, so I was just thankful having my Peruvian chicken that I grew up on. I seriously only agreed to move to Winchester once I saw I was near Peruvian chicken. I hope one day they can expand on their menu, and to be fair I think the owner is afraid to waste product if people around this area don't know too much about Peruvian food. I've also tried Aroma Deli twice when I first moved here a year ago, and I give up on them. Every time the food is horrible and just plainly not fresh. Yes, I've eaten Peru's several times, but never got the chance to review it. Their food is so good that this meal was probably the best yet. Considering today to be a snow day and really not wanting to cook, I ordered out from here (yes, there's a $20 minimum delivery charge, but who cares). I got half chicken, several sides, a jarrito (Mexican soda) and two desserts. Some of it was going to be packed for dinner tomorrow, not all of it eaten today, So I'll review the chicken first, the namesake of said restaurant. The chicken was fabulous, has the great mixture of pepper and other natural spices. It's all grilled rotisserie style, so that is a plus. I was still trying to find scraps after the bird was devoured, that's how good it was. I then had the fries. Fries were a bit soggy, but dip them in the mustard and the aji (green sauce) and it packs quite a punch. They give you just the right amount too. The pico de gallo is also very punchy too. The black beans though were my favorite. Excellent texture, flavor, and taste. Some of the best I've had in a long time. And my alfajor (sweet cookie) was decadent too. No gimmicks there. My mango jarrito was good as usual. Now for the negative stuff. Aside from the super high delivery charge, the rice and coleslaw are just average. The yucca is hit or miss depending on the day, and the same can be said for the flan too. Plus it's really a take out place, not too many seats, But the service and quality of the food are all the more reasons to go and order it again. read more

I disagree with other reviewers on the sides, the yuca and fries were great, and the coleslaw was better than most. (3.5 stars) Winchester is a regular lunch stop on journeys back to Greensboro from New Jersey, and we are always looking for new places in the area to try. Well-regarded and specializing in a cuisine we can't find at home, Peru's seemed like a good bet. In some regards, it was. Situated in the back of a plaza, Peru's is easy to miss, but the craving-inducing smell of cooking chicken will let you know you're in range. Peru's is small and spare though more colorfully appointed than many hole-in-the-wall joints. It's a counter service establishment, and though the staff were not overtly rude, they definitely did not seem thrilled to be there. Peru's menu features various permutations of chicken (white meat and dark meat platters, sandwiches, burritos, etc.) as well as a nice assortment of sides (yuca, plantains, rice, and beans in addition to the requisite fries). My wife and I went with chips and guac, a side of plantains, a burrito, and a mixed bowl, and a horchata. The $3.25 chips and guac were an absolute joke: a small portion of guac, a very thin salsa, and chips that seem like they came from a warehouse store. Avoid. Thankfully, everything else proved to be much tastier and made with greater care. The plantains were maduros (sweet fried), and a good rendition thereof, the horchata was refreshing and not cloyingly sweet, and the salsa that accompanied the chicken was a coarse homemade variety, fresh-tasting and vastly superior to what accompanied the chips. The chicken was the real star though: juicy, flavorful, and filling. It is also quite affordable: the mixed bowl (pulled chicken, salsa, and rice) and the burrito (pulled chicken, rice, beans, lettuce, salsa, and sour cream) were both approximately $7, and a large horchata was only $3. Peru's may have a few rough edges, but if you stick to the chicken, you will leave here satisfied. read more

Menu is limited and this should be a reason that "less is more" but the dry chicken caused me to rate this 3* Wife had the fried chicken wings and french fries. The french fries were very crunchy, and perhaps the best I ever had. She also had guacamole and chips. The guacamole was made fresh and tasted great. Coming from someone that lived very near Peru in Ecuador, I have to say that this chicken is pretty authentic. Even though the owners are actually from Guatemala, It surpasses some of the places I have eaten at in South America. The flavor was terrific, and the meat practically fell off the bone.
