Really shocked to be honest! 1. Purcellville is not a place known for ethnic food by any means and 2. It looked more like a cafe upon walking in than a Jamaican restaurant. I ordered the goat curry while my fiancée ordered the jerk chicken. Both come with rice and beans and cabbage. The jerk chicken had a nice spice to it and was exactly what I know jerk chicken to taste like. The goat curry was very flavorful and tender. It was easy to pull off the bone. The rice and beans could have had some salt and pepper but since mine had curry, it helped it out on the flavor. The cabbage had good flavor and wasn't mushy. The service here was fast. There were 2 employees: one woman taking orders and a man in the back cooking. He definitely knew what he was doing. The ambiance is casual and small restaurant. There's a fish tank by the front door in the window. There's tons of pictures from the owner in Jamaica on the walls. A lot of Jamaican decor around the restaurant. It is unabashedly from the Islands. The oxtail was well made but sadly I would say there wasn't enough meat on the bones. I have been to a variety of restaurants (Thai, Chinese, Indian) where they cook the goat really dry, and hard to chew. This restaurant has the most tender and juicy goat meat I have tasted. This place has so much potential, but the food and service are hit or miss...mostly miss. I've never been to Jamaica, but the owner is from Jamaica. However, depending upon the day, they can make decent jerk chicken or the worst jerk chicken you've ever tasted. Based upon my last experience, I would describe the jerk chicken as smothered chicken in a jerk like sauce. It was horrible! I make jerk chicken from various recipes posted online, but I expect more from restaurants claiming Caribbean roots. The rice and beans (peas) was also bad. No one in my family enjoyed the food. Also, when the staff actually showed up to our table, they were friendly. You should be prepared for a long wait for service and your food, even if the restaurant is completely empty. I first heard of this place from a vendor at the farmers market. When I found out there was authentic Jamaican food in Winchester, I was beyond thrilled!! I first tried the jerk chicken on a Saturday afternoon. It was sooo tasty I could not stop eating it. My husband tried it later in the day and immediately fell in love. We then stopped by the restaurant again the following weekend and ordered the jerk chicken and curried goat. OOhhh MON!!!! I mean incredible!!! The owner is both the chef and the front room man (Lloyd). He's warm, inviting, and very friendly, which makes the whole experience great! The jamaican beef patties were so delicious!
