Had the half chicken and two sides, rice and black beans. The sides were excellent. My half chicken was a bit dry, though, leaving me somewhat disappointed. Menu is limited and this should be a reason that "less is more" but the dry chicken caused me to rate this 3* Wife had the fried chicken wings and french fries. The french fries were very crunchy, and perhaps the best I ever had. She also had guacamole and chips. The guacamole was made fresh and tasted great. Coming from someone that lived very near Peru in Ecuador, I have to say that this chicken is pretty authentic. Even though the owners are actually from Guatemala, It surpasses some of the places I have eaten at in South America. The flavor was terrific, and the meat practically fell off the bone. Peru's Chicken is outstanding, it's also a little hard to find. It's worth the effort to search it out. Peru's is located in a small group of shops just across the street from the Creek Side Shopping Center. Peru's Peruvian style chicken is charcoal broiled, the sides are excellent. Sides are fries, beans & rice, salad, yucca, mashed potato and fried plantains. Plaintains are hard to find in this area, try them you'll have a new favorite side. The skin on the chicken is super crispy, almost like a potato chip. Yet the chicken is very moist. Not a huge menu but who cares, it's all about the chicken. Peru's shows how very good just basic cooking can be. About the only negative is it's hard to find location, that alone almost had me giving 4 stars. We ordered a whole chicken, it had zero taste and was DRY, DRY, DRY! We asked for our money back after only ONE DRY bite and were told no! INSANE! The french fries were frozen and out of a bag, most likely from Walmart! The yucca was deep fried and tasteless.... The plantains were SOAKED in oil because they deep fry them. The last thing I expected was to find a Peruvian restaurants near or in Kernstown! Nevertheless, I'm glad I did. After driving past the opequon shopping center twice and ignoring my GPS, I finally stopped and asked a passerby and they provided directions. It's quietly tucked away in the back of the shopping center. When I arrived, it was not busy but the scents definitely drew you in. I ordered the quarter dark chicken which comes with two sides. The chicken was well seasoned, juicy and tasted amazing!!! I savored every minute of it and secretly wished that I had ordered more! I also wanted chaufa rice and plantains but to my dismay they did not have any! I was so so so very disappointed. Every Peruvian restaurant should have chaufa rice.... it's against the law not to have it! And plantains..... really??? Really good chicken.....crispy skin but nice and juicy inside. Plantains were very good but the YUCCA was excellent. A simple side dish but when it's done right it's heavenly. If you've have good yucca you'll never look at french fries the same way again. Light, fluffy inside, golden brown and crispy outside, hearty and satisfying. One of the things I love most about Winchester is all the surprises when it comes to restaurants. LIke this one, nestled in a small group of shops and medical offices. Unfortunately, it takes a bit to find - but it's worth it. Who knew that so much flavor could be stuffed inside the chicken burrito?? I was definitely taken aback by the size of this thing, as it was a lot bigger than I expected. The price was very reasonable and the burrito was absolutely delicious! Inside this monster I found tender, juicy pulled chicken smothered in flavors I'd never tasted. Also inside, I found black beans, rice, lettuce, tomatoes, and onions. The Pico de Gallo was quite tasty, as well. Everyone knows Boston Market, but if you want the real-deal rotisserie-style chicken, then you need to stop by Peru's Chicken in Kernstown. Low prices, speedy preparation and moist chicken keep me returning for an easy lunch with my dad. In the handful of times I've been, I still haven't strayed from the 1/2 chicken plate with two sizes (fried yucca plus rice & beans). One of these days I'm going to try a burrito, but anything there is good with the spicy green sauce and cool yellow sauce. For some reason this place never seems busy with the 10 or so tables, but I do see people coming and going with takeout orders. Of note, they have free delivery on orders over $20. Nothing special with dining in (no tablecloths), but Peru's Chicken is a great place for a weekday lunch and pretty easy to get to off exit 310 from I-81. read more

I needed lunch delivered last week, so my group decided on Peru's Chicken. It was my first time ordering from this place and I was pleasantly surprised with the food. You can order a quarter chicken plate, specified as dark meat (thigh/drumstick) or white meat ( breast/wing), then there is the half chicken plate, or whole chicken meal.. All come with choice of sides. The chicken was very good - flavorful and moist. The rice was tasty and obviously made in house (unlike rice pilaf that tastes the same at most restaurants). Delicious food! I was traveling through, staying at Motel 6 down the road and saw this place on Yelp. I got take out, although the dine-in place was clean and perfectly fine, albeit zero atmosphere. I got the chicken burrito supreme. (The "chicken" in that last sentence is redundant since everything they serve is chicken). The pulled chicken they put in everything is extremely moist and tasty. I work right across the parking lot from Peru's. It's dangerous. The chicken is so good, but if I ate there all the time I'd probably way a million pounds by the end of the year. This is the best Peruvian rotisserie chicken place we've found since we moved from Alexandria. We always split a half chicken with yucca (for me), fries (for my husband), coleslaw, and sometimes plantain if we're really hungry. The chicken spice mixture is usually great and their green sauce is pure ground jalapenos, just the way we like it. We've been a few times and those times were 5-stars. This time, however, everything except the yucca was over-salted and the cashier & food prep people weren't the friendly ones we're used to, they were surly and hesitated to give us extra green sauce even though we turned down the yellow sauce. I guess I've been spoiled living in the dc area. We have many of these Peruvian chicken places to choose from. This was the only one I could find in Winchester area, and it was hard to find, tucked away in a mini business park. The chicken was pretty good, jalapeño sauce was not bad. All the standard sides you would expect, fries, yucca, rice etc Since it is the only game in town, I've tried, I'll give it 4 stars. If I had to campare it to other places like Guapos in Herndon, or Sardis in College Park, it wouldn't have made the top 10 list.
