A group of my friends from work walk out to the food trucks several days of the week to grab lunch. PB is one of our favorites--pan con chincharron, ftw! At $8, it's a tad pricey--but this thing is GINORMOUS. The pork is juicy and succulent, there's sweet potatoes (sweet potatoooooes!!! I LOVE sweet potatoes!), served with some pickled onions and delicious sauce. Friends have tried many other items on the menu, and for the most part, everyone likes everything (except the spinach and cheese empanada--and judging from the reviews, seems like they're not alone). I tried this truck on Art's recommendation and so glad I did. Beef empanada - nomz! perfectly flaky and tasty. If you are thinking of eating it for lunch, one just wont do! Peruvian chicken with a side of quinoa salad and the other side i forgot. The chicken was pretty tasteless for my taste but the hot sauces made up for the blandness but the sides were excellent as i recall! The star of the meal was the alfajor which is a peruvian cookie. First I love the original Peruvian Brothers truck. Great food and the brothers have movie star good looks (no gay). I love their food cooked by their mom and I appreciate them introducing me to their native cuisine. The wild rice is to die for, the sandwiches are amazing and save room for desert. BUT...they must be expanding because I sat outside their truck at Mass Ave Nw and waited to order alone, which is extremely rare cause they're always busy, while someone ignored me on the phone while I waited to place an order. On the way to the office on L St NW and the food trucks are out. I see a Japanese truck, a peruvian chicken truck and the Peruvian Bros. The sandwiches sound good so I spring for the Pollo at $9 + tax. Wait 5 minutes and it's ready to go. I get to the office and open up the box. Sandwich is quite large and the bread looks homemade. They give you some hot orangish sauce and I pour a little on. Take a few bites and.....it's OK. White chicken breast meat that is sliced but a little on the dry side. They top it with onions and lettuce. Maybe should have went for the asado or pork. Worth another shot if I see the truck again but probably won't go for the Pollo again. read more

There are not many Peruvian food trucks out there, so I was looking forward to giving Peruvian Brothers a try. I went with the Asado sandwich- thick cut roast beef well marinated and cooked perfectly. Could have used a tad more heat for my personal taste, but overall it was a really sandwich! I went with the fried plantations as a side- just a tad crispy and sweet. The sauce was very similar to the mild/medium type you usually get at a Peruvian chicken joint and was quite tasty. This is our favorite place in the DC area to get the best empanadas ever! The empanadas are sizable, filled with juicy fillings, and are authentic. The sides and sauces served with them are scrumptious, too. We also LOVE their ceviche, sandwiches, yuca frita, and alfajores. On weekends, we indulge in one of their Pisco Sour Slushies (so good). As PERUVIAN!, I felt extremely cheated since it was my first time attending at La Cosecha Market Place, and I was looking forward to eating something delicious that night. I ended up not being able to finish the food, it was so bad, and I threw the rest of the "uncle rice box" no the authentic rice, unfortunately. On top of that, they forgot to give me the picarones I paid for and it was not in the package when I got to my house, call them, no answer, written in messenger and email, no answer...professionalism flush to the toilet ...I also order two sandwiches of pollo and chicharron and I was soooo disappointed with the hard old bread and the chicharrones with no taste at all. Came here with my boyfriend to try out their food as I've read many great reviews about this place. We went to the Peruvian Brothers inside of Union Market and ordered the Chicharrón. I was excited when we received our food but was greatly disappointed when we tried it. The pork had no flavor at all. It was completely flavorless and didn't taste like anything. I tried adding the sauce to see if that would add flavor, but that didn't help at all. The sauce also has no flavor. The bread was also very hard. Overall it was a disappointing experience and we will not be returning. You're better off going to El Fuego in Arlington which has many more options and the flavor is there!! I'm sorry Peruvian brothers but you're not cutting it. As someone who is Peruvian and has tried a variety of Peruvian food this is probably the worst I've had. read more

From the food, to the animals (two alpacas were arranged to be on-site) to the musical and dancing entertainment, these guys made the whole evening a truly wonderful experience. I love the concept of food truck food, but I have had a hard time finding a good one in D.C. However, I was amazed when I tried Peruvian Brother's empanadas at an event hosted by Service Bar D.C. for Peruvian independence month. The bread was amazing and so was the beef. I only got one, but I made sure to get another one before leaving the event. I am excited about trying their sandwiches! I also loved the white boxes with a sticker of a Peruvian hat and that they put plenty of lime and a mint. I think one thing that can improve for the future is the costumer service, specially for first-timers. I approached the truck and looked at the menu and there was no interaction with the person on the truck who didn't seem too approachable. The food was nothing special. Unfortunately the cashier/order taker gave me the impression that she could care less about getting the order correct and predictably got the order wrong. When I politely brought this to her attention she continued to give me the wrong order. She was also about to charge me for something I never ordered. It could be better. Is the synopsis for those who like bottom line and no explanations lol I got the chicharron and the butifarra and extra salsa criolla. Although they forgot to put my extra salsa lol smh I am half Peruvian and I was raised in Peru until I was about 10-11, and have obviously eaten Peruvian food for the MAJORITY of my life. The sandwiches are actually pretty good, some of you may not know, but these sandwiches have a habit of going dry if not eaten right out of the oven, because you don' have the juices from the meat. So for making them in that truck its pretty impressive and juicy. They should save the juices and serve it on the side like Au Jus. Thats My first suggestion. The other thing is the salsa criolla. So that's like the best part of this sandwich, the acidity is supposed to cut through and make this decadent sandwich almost refreshing. So So Good. Their sandwiches come with it and you can buy more on the side for $1. So idk but it needs more lime and a little salt. It was too sweet and not acidic enough if at all. So idk how to improve that because onions pickle so quickly and i'm sure it sits in the truck for a bit. So idk but that's my ONE main suggestion, its the only thing that was lacking for me :( and it's like my favorite part of most Peruvian dishes. So all in all, the staff on the truck was great, welcoming kind and quick. Oh and the sweet potato in my chicharron sandwich was still quite raw in the middle so yeah. Sweet potatoes are a bit hard to cook. Overall not too bad, just impressed that the sandwiches are not dry! Even some peruvian restaurants offer it and its soooo dry. Worst experience ever. Ordered the chicken and choripan sandwiches. The bread is overkill. The taste is not there. But the worst I would say is the empanadas. Disgusting. I have pictures and video to prove it. I ordered the chicken empanada and looked like garbage. The inside was dry as a bone. After spending 50 bucks for all that, it should not be like that. The hype is real. They deserve to be rated at the top of food trucks in DC. Original and tasty Peruvian flavor and also carry matching Peruvian and latin American soft drinks. I often get the Chicken Platter with Peruvian rice and mashed potatoes. The rice comes with bacon and raisins which is a great combination. If you are fortunate to have them stop by you in the lunch hour do not hesitate to get their food. I've noticed they show up really early to the locations they serve and make the food fresh. 3.25 stars. Perhaps the crowning achievement of this food truck revolves around their interesting sides. The wild rice layered with fried angel hair pasta and studded with shards of crispy bacon, tangy raisins, and earthy walnuts is a revelation, and the mashed potatoes clearly exhibited a modicum of effort on the part of the brothers. I'd certainly like to try their quinoa salad at some point as well, but at $4 per side, I think it's only worth ordering them as part of a platter. And therein lies the rub. The main (in this case, seasoned pork loin) was decidedly average. It didn't appear that the pork loin had been marinated far too long in the seasonings, and while it sported nice texture, it wasn't exactly memorable. Having said that, the accompanying dipping sauce, had ample bite and made the dish far more palatable. It's pretty obvious that there is a gender divide regarding service from this truck. The guy taking orders is basically a South American bro, which didn't rub me the wrong way, but I think I can see where some dudes might have felt slighted about that. I can also why some girls would be repeat visitors of this truck regardless of the food (one of my co-workers definitely wanted more than the guy's number). In any event, if you are put off by any level of potentially unintentional brusque treatment, then you might have a service issue with the truck. But personally, I have no complaints from that angle. If the Peruvian Brothers are back in Friendship Heights, I'd probably come back to try one of their sandwiches or perhaps their take on asado. read more

This place is great. Definitely one of the best food trucks in DC and probably one of the only food trucks I repeatedly go to when they are here in Friendship Heights. All my co-workers agree they have amazing food all-around. The owner was unhappy that people were complaining the chicken was dry. I'm here to tell you I eat at this food truck at least 2-3 times a month and I've never had dry chicken. It's not traditional "Peruvian Chicken" we DC foodies are familiar with (rotisserie style), but it's seasoning is amazing; I could eat the chicken by itself it's so good, but I won't, because everything that comes on the sandwich including the roll is absolutely amazing. As far as food trucks go, this is as good as it gets. I had steak here that was a little on the dry side, but what can you expect at a food truck... they aren't cooking fresh steak per order and steak dries out so quickly. Lower your expectations people. Give these guys the credit they deserve. Great food, and great owners that are passionate about their product. read more

Did not experience the Peruvian taste like the other places I go.......the chicken was skinless with some type of salt seasoning on top - it wasn't grilled and had no flavor, just real salty. The brown rice and field greens were okay - so I just combined the chicken with the greens and made it work as a salad. WOW! Let me first start by stating that I eat at food trucks, EVERY DAY. Living right by the Navy Yard each afternoon there are about 3-5 trucks to choose from, and I, intend to eat at every one within a year... Enough about my lack of dieting, and onto the review! I thought the staff was pretty great, and the truck seems trendy. I asked, "What is a dish that would give me the BEST first impression of Peruvian food on your truck?" Without hesitation, he offered up "the tilapia fish sandwich" and boy am I glad I accepted! Upon fist bite, the fish and its perfect grilled juices paired together so well. I have to tell you that bread was the perfect amount of crispy too, and it didn't fall to pieces given the amount of amazing juices on it! I have to tell you to do the same exact order... Yes, yes, yes. This place is a win on every front. Food, cost, branding, service, all are wonderful. I've been here quite a few times now and have had great experiences every time. Today, I had a beef empanada and the Peruvian wild rice, both were excellent. The empanadas are fantastic and a must try if you go here - beef option has flavorful meat, a nice touch of sweetness with the raisins mixed in, and the breading is cooked perfectly. Same goes for the chicken and spinach empanadas - they really know what they're doing. Another option I'd definitely recommend is the Pan con chicharrón - pork tenderloin, grilled sweet potato slices, and signature sauce served on a French roll. So good. A nice addition on top of the great food is the fact that they have consistent branding across the board - on social media, the website, the food truck, the sauce bottles with an actual little hat like the one on their logo, and even down to the sticker they add on top of each box when they give you your food. Peruvian Brothers was a real miss in my eyes. I had the Pan con Chicharron and it was an incredibly dry pork sandwich. The meat wasn't moist at all and if there was sauce on it I didn't taste it and it did nothing to add any moisture to the sandwich. The onions were also a little too prominent and did little to bring any additional flavor to the sandwich. Really wanted to enjoy my trip to this food truck but it really let me down. read more

Having lived in Peru for an extended period of time- I'd like to think I can give a good opinion on Peruvian food. :) Saw Peruvian brothers at the Peru Smithsonian festival and was excited to try their food. We had the aji de gallina (one of my favs) which is rarely offered in most Peruvian restaurants. It was really good and exceeded my expectations and I would definitely order again if I happened to bump into their truck. Also had the alfajores (dessert pastry with dulce de leche/manjar blanco) and they were pretty legit as well. Though of course nothing beats eating it as a home cooked meal in Lima. read more

With a recommendation from a coworker, I stopped by the Peruvian Brothers food truck for a recent lunch excursion. Looking for something different than my usual fare, I was excited to try another food truck which seemingly had positive reviews. Perhaps my expectations where too high, but I found the asado combo plate that I ordered to be disappointing. The meat was simply far too dry, which really ruined it for me since I'm a huge fan of that type of preparation. However, the wild rice and quinoa side salads were extremely flavorful and really salvaged the plate for me. The brothers (at least I'm assuming they were brothers...seemed intuitive with their name) were great and the operation was run as smoothly as a food truck can be run. But if it weren't for the side dishes being stars, I probably won't come back. But since they were solid, I could see myself giving them another go...but will probably be trying something else off the menu. read more

The servers were really friendly and there was an excellent selection. Despite the line, the food was ready quickly. Food truck looks like it's a big deal, but their chicken platter leaves much to be desired. A colleague got me craving Peruvian chicken, and I was hoping this place might do the trick but it was lackluster. I think they are known for their sandwiches, not their platters. And it shows - the chicken was just sliced like turkey lunches in the cafeteria for Thanksgiving Day meal. Naturally, all the good flavors from the grilled chicken were lost. The salad and rice were okay, but this place just lacks authenticity, or at the very least, it's not what you expect. I have no clue about Peruvian cuisine but am planning to go to Peru in the near future so decided to stop at this truck. The guy at the counter recommended the pork tenderloin sandwich. I found it to be large, pretty tasty and complex tasting. The pork was great - very tender and moist, and came with sweet potatoes, some pickled onions and a special sauce. The roll it came on seemed to be high-quality and had a satisfying crunch. I also got the Peuvian bread pudding for dessert. This was a very large portion and also delicious. It came with a sugary-honeylike topping and a base of honey, nuts and raisins. I was not expecting this from a Peruvian dish - it actually tasted a lot like a German breakfast dish my grandparents used to bring for Christmas every year. In fact it tasted almost identical to that dish. So if you enjoy a more honey-centric version of Stollen bread pudding you will love this dish! So far so good on the Peruvian cuisine, I definitely enjoyed that sandwich as well as the bread pudding, although that seemed very European to me. The brother I spoke with was very friendly and they had a magazine article up listing their accomplishments in rowing and sailing - impressive! The prices seemed right too. I will probably be back to try an empanada or find another pork dish to test out. The pork tenderloin in my sandwich was really well made. I ordered a spinach and cheese empanada. It was five bucks, and the size of a small child's fist. Wtf? For five dollars, I want a good empanada. Also, there was no cheese in the "spinach and cheese" empanada. I even asked what type of cheese they put in there, and he said Mozz. Dunno where they put that cheese, but it sure wasn't in my empanada. And they put powdered sugar on top. Wth? it's a savory empanada! It messed up the flavor (which wasn't that great anyway), and they took longer than needed to get me my empanada. Looked like it took a few seconds to microwave; why'd I have to wait so long for it? Service was shitty too; guy acted like he didn't give a shit about his customers at all. Go to DC empanadas instead and do not waste your time and money here. read more

Trying to decide on a food truck can be a tough thing to do, so I simply hopped in the longest line. In less than 5 minutes I was helped and served. Friendly and super efficient. I ordered the pan con chicharron (it's a pork sandwich on a French roll). I was sold on lightly fried pork, and pickled cabbage. They had me wondering about sweet potato as a condiment though, and I was pleasantly surprised, as it balanced the pickling brine really well. All in all a great lunch experience, indoors or out. This review is for the pork sandwich with sweet potatoes and onions. First, the menu is pretty huge, so I asked the owner for a suggestion- he recommended the above sandwich. It said that the pork was marinated, sliced, and then fried- I didn't taste anything but really dry, thin pork- no flavor, just dry. Also, Holy onions! There was a ton of them- I like onions as an accent on a sandwich, but someone thought they were the main course. I love picking onions off a sandwich, so that i can smell like one the rest of the day. What's that new scent you're wearing? Eau de onion by The Peruvian Brothers. The menu also claimed there was a sauce on this sandwich, but mine didn't have any- whoops, probably would've helped the dry meat. The thinly sliced sweet potato was basically the only thing I could really taste, and it was good, but a sweet potato sandwich is kind of meh when it's all you can taste. I'm also not a huge eater, I would say average, and there just wasn't enough meat on this- very thin, not much there. The bun was huge- it looked like a mini loaf of bread and it was nice and crispy but also no flavor- perhaps a little butter when toasting? I dunno, I hate to give 2 stars, but when you have the Mojo truck out there serving up delicious chivitos, it's a bummer to get something that's just not good.
