Pescatore will not match the bells & whistles of a big conglomerate if that's what you're looking for. Instead they offer you quality wine (FYI they've earned medals galore) with the spirit u want in the grapes. They only harvest what they grow!!! We wanted to do a Sunday wine tasting and chose this winery. We found the experience to be fun and relaxing. The owner, Dave, was the server. My husband had a great time talking to him about the vineyard, wine process, etc. We had planned to go to other wineries, but instead we spent two hours on the patio sipping wine and talking. The wines were very good. Only one other couple came while we were there. I think this should be on everyone's "go to" places. We are certainly going to return! read more

My lady and I attended a wine event a few weeks ago at Pescatore Estate Vineyard & Winery. It is located near Newcastle, CA. It is a 15-acre, family-owed operation that produces some pretty good wine. The event revolved around eating and drinking. We were served horderves, salad, homemade pizza and generous amounts of wine. Good views from the deck of the rolling vineyards. With respect to the wine, my favorites included the Barbera, Cabernet Franc and the Malbec. I purchased several bottles of the Cab Franc - full bodied, rich with a great nutty / berry finish. read more

This place is awesome. So glad we discovered it. The owners are amazing. The prices are beyond reasonable. $5 for tasting. $5 for a glass. All bottles are $20. $10 charcuterie tray with house made olives! They have monthly dinners and cheese making classes. And the view....definitely worth the drive! read more

Excellent !! What a gem. Upon arrival we were greeted with a warm welcome. The place is lovely with a beautiful outdoor terrace overlooking the vineyard. Wine tasting of 7 beautiful aromatic wines. Dave he's terrific BTW. He offered a appetizer platter of cheese, crackers, homemade olives and a slice of homemade pizza $10.00. It was amazing to pair it with the wine tasting. It was so nice to relax and soak in the ambiance. This is a perfect place. You must come see! It has a wonderful Italian feel. read more

Placer County is slowly becoming a bigger agritourism destination, which is surprising given the proximity of so many people in the South Placer area. Wineries like Pescatore Vineyard and Winery are a good example of the options available in the region. Their tiny winery is hidden along Ridge Road amongst the many mandarin orchards in the area. All of the wine is estate grown with a wide variety of varietals. The offerings are rather eclectic eschewing more of the Rhone and Spanish themes found in many Placer wineries. Pescatore wines are very approachable and a great value for those able to make the trek. The tasting room is surprisingly large with a great view of the valley. Accessing the winery is a bit difficult with limited signage and steep one-way roads, but if you are wandering around the mandarin orchards or just looking for something new, I recommend stopping by Pescatore for a tasting. read more

What a great find in the Placer County wineries. All estate grown grapes. I have to say that the wines are all good. Our favorites were the white barbera and petite sirah. We have been to all but four of the Placer wineries and this is one of our favorites. Great patio and indoor fireplace for colder days. read more

Small, family-owned winery. Dave, the owner, was our server. We were the only couple there for a tasting. No charge for tastings and all their wines are $15! Dave told us that they carry some of his wines at local grocers. Most notably, Raley's/Bel Air. We tried three different wineries and this was our favorite. We bought two of the Zinfandel and one of the Sauvignon Blanc. He didn't have the Malbec or the Barbera available but told us to come back soon. Highly recommend you make a stop here before you go to the more popular stops along the wine trail. read more

Super cute small winery. Unlike in the big wineries, the owners do really care about the customers and make sure they are happy. The wines are delicious (there were 9 of us, each of us got a bottle or two), and to complement the wines the owner fed us cheese and snacks, including some delicious pesto torta his wife made. I can't believe that no one has reviewed this place before... We stopped in last weekend for the Toys for Tots wine tasting event. There was a nice crowd, great views off the back deck. The wine maker has numerous red wines to try. They cost 15 dollars per bottle. The malbec and barbera stood out as the best. We will be back... read more

Found Pescatore last year totally by accident, loved it and came back again this year. Wonderful wine (my personal favorites are Cabernet Franc and the Barbera), great tasting room with a gorgeous view of the vineyard and the hills, and awesome super nice owner!!! One on the Placer County Wine Trail. Sign on the road and the property are so difficult to read. We drove by the signs and the wrong driveway leading up. Signs were a little unclear where to go through the process other than the map from the wine trailer brochure. We were greeted by the family dog. Dave is the owner and was serving the patrons the day we visited. The room isn't overly large and it doesn't pretend or over due what it's intent is. He greeted and got us started promptly for tasting of 6 wines. His pricing for the wine was simple. 15 dollar for whichever. We proceed to try the wines include and Sauvignon Blanc, Malbec, and Barbera. He has a list to which he goes about and explains the history behind the products. He also discusses the business, vineyard and awards. We didn't care for the first one. Or the second one. Second one for my guest had a bug fly in or was in the bottle. Not sure where from. She poured out the wine and we went to the next one. Malbec I believe was an award winner one of the years. It was a good wine wet. Not dry. Berries and cherries hints. I walk around and most windows have a good amount of bugs flying about or dead. We continue with the tasting. Barbera was another one that we enjoyed from the rest. We finished the rest with no issues with bugs. We picked up one bottle and paid cash being it was a small winery. Enjoyed the conversation and reasonable price point. Didn't care for bugs. Aside from that all it was okay overall. Not sure I would come back. I would just be mindful for the pour may see bugs. read more

This is my 3rd or 4th visit to this cute, little winery. My girlfriend lives in the area, so every time I come & visit her I make sure we make a stop here. Dave, the owner, has always been our pourer. You can tell he is passionate about his wines & it shows in the quality of them. My 2 favorite varietals that he does is the Malbec & Cab Franc. Both so delicious & fruit forward and very smooth! His late harvest Zinfandel also surprised me today... Not super sweet but juicy & delicious. I'm used to tasting wines in Sonoma & Napa & I would take these wines over the majority of those any day! read more

Really enjoyed this winery. The owner greeted us by coming outside and saying hi -- we were the only ones there due to it being so rainy outside! I really liked all of the wines we tried, and I enjoyed the experience of being there alone with just my boyfriend and the owner -- he was very knowledgeable and not "over the top" like some wineries can be. Following the Placer Wine trail map and stopped at Pescatore on a sunny Saturday. First thing we noticed was the incredible scenery and beautiful grounds. Met Dave at the tasting bar and had a great time tasting his wines and talking with him. Ended up buying a bottle of the Zinato and the Petite Sirah. The owner Dave is very friendly and extremely knowledgeable about the local area! All of the wines were good and I bought several bottles. Dave went out of his way to make my myself and my husband very comfortable. We were treated to his homemade olives and a generous portion of cheese and crackers!!! This was our first stop on visiting wineries along the Placer County Wine Trail. We were the only visitors at the time. We were spotted and a gentlemen quickly rode up on a golf cart. The tasting room was spacious with many tables and had a lovely view. I had a California Sips card but it wasn't needed since there was no charge for tasting. He was generous in the pours. The gentlemen spoke almost no English. It worked out o.k. because my husband and sister-in-law were able to converse with him. He was very chatty and friendly. I understood that the owners were away and he was left to serve wine. The wines are all reasonably priced and they are terrific wines. We especially loved the Cabernet Franc and the Barbera. We brought home a case. I'm looking forward to many happy wine evenings this fall. read more

I had a wonderful time at this winery. I recently was part of a large group on a wine tasting birthday trip. The gentleman was very nice, good pour, beautiful location, fabulous wine, and nice atmosphere. My only regret is that I did not purchase more wine. read more
