For those of you who are absolutely petrified of dentists, nevertheless an oral surgeon, this one is for you. I have really bad medical anxiety like as soon as I see a doctor, my fight or flight kicks in high gear. Going to a large practice was out of the question for me because the noise, the rush and the environment just make me extra anxious. To be honest with you, I was avoiding an extraction for a long time because I was just petrified. I finally built up the courage to start looking for an oral surgeon that would preform my extraction. Dr. Peskin was close to my house and to my even greater surprise, had appointments available within a reasonable time period ( a lot of surgeons at competing hospitals are booked out for months on end). I went in for a consultation, Dr. Peskin's office staff is very pleasant, easy to talk to and most importantly, transparent. They advised me that it will take at least two weeks to get benefit verification information back my insurance. I felt a lot more calmer after my consultation, Dr. Peskin was very agreeable and just calm which I really needed because I was on edge. We talked about my options and decided that the end goal was an implant so after my extraction, Dr. Peskin would add bone kraft to my tooth. I was really scared of being under general anesthesia for my extraction and I advised him that I don't feel comfortable doing that and he said no problem, I could do local anesthesia. On the day of my extraction, I ate something a couple of hours beforehand and then I went in. When I arrived, they took my blood pressure (which was through the roof because I was so scared) but they remained calm and assured me everything will be okay. Dr. Peskin came in and administered the local anesthesia and advised me to sit tight for a few minutes while the anesthesia kicked in. When he came back, he checked to see if I can feel any pain- which I didn't and then he started the extraction. I felt the tooth that was causing me so much distress come out but it didn't hurt. He didn't break the tooth while taking it out, he took it out so well and then cleaned the area of the extraction. Then a few seconds later he put in the bone kraft, I was not expecting that to happen so quickly but I felt nothing as he inserted it. Sewing up the area was the longest part of this whole process but it didn't hurt. Dr. Peskin walked me through it all- he told me, "I'm going to pull the tooth out", "I'm cleaning the extraction site", "I'm going to put in the bone kraft" etc.. and that eliminated my anxiety because I was fearing the unknown. Once Dr. Peskin was done adding the bone kraft, the nurse came in and advised me of how to take care of my extraction and advising me of what medication to take. They prescribed antibiotics and pain medications- I actually stuck to using ibuprofen just once that day but the pain was manageable. The pain was manageable because my tooth wasn't infected but every body is different. The nurse told me that she would call me the next day to check in with me and she did- first thing in the morning and that meant a lot. The tooth was swollen the first two days but then the swelling came down. The staff advised me to rinse my mouth with salt water three times a day for the next week and eat soft foods. I did all of that and it allllll helped in the process of healing. I came back two weeks later to remove the sutures and Dr. Peskin said everything was healing well and to come back in three months for implant planning. The whole experience was amazing- my only regret is not doing it sooner. I cannot praise Dr. Peskin or his incredible staff enough, highly recommend them but go check them out for yourselves. This was the most negative experience with a doctor I've ever had in my life. In an initial consult about tooth pain, Dr. Peskin was calm, kind, patient, and helpful. He provided two options to remove my wisdom teeth (local anesthetic or sedation). He recommended sedation so I agreed to that during the consult. When I arrived for the procedure, I told him my fear of feeling the pain of the tooth removal. He then pushed me to do general anesthesia, which is what I thought I was already doing (I didn't know that sedation is different from general anesthesia), When I tried to ask questions to understand how general anesthesia differs from sedation, he provided many different options that were not presented during the initial consult (low sedation, medium sedation, high sedation or general anesthesia?). When I continued to try to understand the differences between these options as well as their risks and benefits, he did not take the time to help me understand. He was incredibly impatient, defensive, and kept saying that he already told me these details. He said things like "I told you all this when we met last time" or "I already told you that" in a frustrated, patronizing tone. He hadn't told me any of these details in our initial consult, but even if he had done so, it's a doctor's job to repeat oneself as many times as is needed to help patients fully understand what they are consenting to. It's a doctor's job to help patients to fully understand the options so they can weigh the pros and cons and choose the alternative that is the best fit for them. When I pushed to try to understand the risks and benefits of each of these new options, he repeatedly interrupted me and refused to share these details in a professional manner. He was curt, arrogant, and condescending. He spoke to me as though I was stupid or ignorant and I felt pressured to make a choice without the information I needed to engender trust and feel safe in a situation where trust and safety are essential. I wanted to make an informed choice, and that's my right as a patient. I got increasingly upset, trying to get him to listen to me. Every question I tried to ask, he continued to interrupt me, refusing to listen to my questions before he answered. He had the worst bedside manner in a doctor I've ever seen. I left the office without doing the procedure because I didn't trust him at all. It was a huge disappointment to leave without completing the surgery because my husband and I had already taken off work and arranged for childcare for the day. I had also fasted for 10 hours before arriving. Given the positive experience during the initial consult, this was all very unexpected. (Also, I will say that the women at the front desk were extremely kind and compassionate, so I thank them for their understanding.) To give you even more context, I've had a major surgery in the past and I've had many dental procedures previously. Never in my life have I left before going through with a procedure. I only did so today because I didn't trust or feel safe with this doctor. As I read the reviews here, I also noticed how many other patients have had similar experiences. Peskin Oral Surgery has satisfactorily resolved my complaint. Copy of previous complaint: Jun 4, 2025 Update to my April 23 review. Recap--The office promised that on the day they received the insurance result they would refund any balance on my deposit. The insurance rejected most of their claim, the office (with reason, in my opinion), was unhappy (but still should have kept their word and refunded the balance of my deposit. After a few months the office got around to filing a protest with the insurance company. Now the protest has also been rejected (three pages of extreme detail in the rejection, dated 8 May). Still nothing from the office to me. As before, they are welcome to pursue whatever path they wish to settle this with the insurance company, but in the meantime, per their promise, I should not be kept waiting while they take months to make each decision. read more

Referred by my dentist, great work performed on a cracked wisdom tooth irritating my inner cheek, a highly skilled oral surgeon, I had work done on 7-30-24 around 2:30p in the afternoon and as I am typing this review on 7-31-24 at 4pm the extraction site feels great and is healing fast!! Again Excellent work!! Updated: On 8-1-24 at 11:30am , I received a wellness call from the Peskin Oral Maxillofacial Clinic, a wellness check shows an attitude of patient concern, they reviewed some points from the initial session, greatly appreciated, they solved a nagging problem which effected my speech and chewing, already back to normal and all at an affordable cost!! When I called for an extraction I was told the cost to me would be $280. Then 2 weeks later I got another bill for $218. They claimed it was an oral surgery rather than a routine extraction but the whole thing took 20 minutes and it was routine. I don't understand why anyone would go to this guy. read more

My daughter had to have emergency services due to a tooth cracking and being in severe pain. We were not originally referred to this office, but he was in network so I called and they were able to get my daughter in the same day. We read the reviews and had some concern over the negative reviews but were pleased by the positive ones as well. Sadly, our experience today was absolutely terrible. He refused to use anesthesia despite her pain, fear and anxiety and began to verbally berate her telling her that they made room to squeeze her in and they were not going to stay open late just to give her anesthesia. I could go on and in greater detail, but suffice it to say that his behavior was neither professional nor compassionate. At one point he questioned if she was on drugs and said things like " you just walked in off the street and you want to be knocked out" . No, with a crack in her tooth and a referral from our insurance network, she did not just walk in off the street looking to be "knocked out" . As a result of his poor management of the entire situation, my daughter ended up passing out , which ended up being a good thing so she did not have to endure having him pull her tooth. She ended up at another clinic who had no problem using anesthesia, or staying late to be sure she was well taken care of. If you have other options for oral surgery, please use them. Perhaps, with a pre planned surgery and with no questions or other concerns he can do a good job, but if you have pain, fear or are in an emergency situation and are looking for a compassionate provider, he is not the one for you. read more

I have had a fear of going to the dentist my whole life, so I am ready to criticize any bad or unprofessional behavior, but there was none here. Dr. Peskin, Kim and the whole staff were most professional and explained, in advance, what to expect and how things work. No surprises! This is the 3rd time over 20 years that I have had work done by Dr. Peskin. The staff was courteous and kind, especially when I became extremely anxious and needed my hand held! Dr. Peskin was on time and explained every detail as it was being done. One of the most amazing things about it was the lack of pain. Two molars taken out, one needed extra attention as it was tricky, and by the next day, I only had to take a few over the counter pain killers and didn't need the stronger stuff as prescribed. I was referred to this office by my dentist, who is really great. The referral must just be due to insurance networks because Dr. Peskin is a terrible specialist, especially to work with children. He has no filter when it comes to telling your child to be quiet, does not react well when they're scared or have questions, and in all honestly is just a rude jerk. After a number of appointments and hefty co-pays ($350 for a damn X-ray), my 7 year old was scheduled to have a tooth taken out. My son was initially afraid of the needle and Peskin decided to stop the procedure and was "not going to deal with this". The appointment was taken and made for us even though he understood he was going to be working with a small child who was going to be resistant, most likely because he will still get money from my insurance for the appointment regardless. The old white lady, his assistant, shares this snotty, impatient, and truly disgusting attitude. This office is collectively out of date, in need of people skills, and not prepared AT ALL to handle children (or anyone for that matter). I respect professionals who do a good job, but part of that lies in the way you conduct yourself and treat those who pay you their hard-earned money. Do yourself a favor and go elsewhere. read more

I went to Peskin Oral Surgery for a procedure on 05/18. Prior to my appointment the office staff explained what would be needed and the pre-payment. I arrived in advance of my appointment and the office staff was very friendly. I went back and Dr. Peskin came in and explained what he would be doing. Answered my questions. The procedure was more difficult than expected. He explained the issue and communicated with me through out the procedure. He was professional and I have had no issues following the procedure. read more

I had a similar experience as Gene. I went in for a consultation to get my wisdom teeth extracted. I opted to do oral surgery because of how entrenched my teeth were. Dr. Peskin was not very polite when explaining the procedure and answering questions. After the consultation, the staff said I needed to pay $95 up front despite the fact that I had insurance. With the consultation aside, I made an appointment for the actual surgery. A few days before the appointment, I learn that they would charge me $630 on the day of the surgery. I'm thinking, no; I've never had to pay for a procedure up front that hadn't happened. I've reported him to my insurance company. If any doctor does this for you, make sure you do the same as well. **Update: It's been a month since my consultation. My insurance company hasn't received a claim for the $95. AVOID THIS GUY. He doesn't want to deal with insurance companies, so he dumps the cost onto you. read more

All I can say is that I would never ever recommend this office. The office staff was beyond rude. They were extremely unhelpful and intolerant and condescending in their manner of assisting patients. I had numerous arguments trying to make sure that things were in place and when they were not, they were so unprofessional that this is the last place that you would want to go. One woman in particular who I believe is the office manager is the worst of the worst!! The doctor was very arrogant and demeaning as well. He would not answer questions and assumed you were an idiot for having any in the first place. He did not take the time to make sure that the patient was comfortable in his explanation of what the surgery would entail. I came in on a Friday morning and the staff seemed so rushed. When it was my turn, they quickly asked me questions, not as polite as I expected either. When there were some questions I could not answer I was lightly scolded by one of the assistants and the doctor also did the same. They were treating two other patients at the same time, so I let it go since I thought they were under pressure. They kept running back and forth between different people. They would ask me a question or two, rush back to another patient then come back to me around 5 or 10 minutes later. This happened about 3 times while I was waiting in the dental chair. The other thing was that they never talked to me about how much everything would cost. They took my insurance card and then went ahead with the procedure. Pulling the tooth took about 10 seconds. After wards they charged me up front for part of the total bill. The charge was $160. They said they would send me a refund after they contact my insurance, if the insurance covers it. About a week later they sent me a bill with the total charge. I found I was also charged $100 for oral evaluation, in addition to the $160 and the extraction fee. My dentist have already done this and sent them the information of what the problem was, and what was needed to be done. I remember asking a couple questions, he looked at the tooth that needed to be pulled and that was it. My insurance covered the rest of the bill except for my $160. It doesn't make sense because I've done larger procedures, root canals, fillings, etc, and my insurance have always covered it. Since I was referred to him by my dentist, whom I've been going to for almost a decade, I expected much better treatment. I've lost some trust on my dentist for referring me to them, and I'm definitely not going back to Peskin. If they charge your for funny stuff, make sure you report them to your insurance. read more

I had a standard wisdom teeth procedure (all 4 of them taken out at the same time!). Dr. Peskin was a professional, but alas, his staff was not. Having to deal with his condescending nurse and secretary was not pleasant at all. PS You can pay later if the secretary likes you and doesn't talk down to you! I was sittng in the waiting room for my follow-up appointment and the lady with her son asked if she could pay later and the secretary said it was fine. Again he was very friendly and FAST...I appreciate the fact that he is so fast. Really shows how much of an expert he is. I have one bottom one left and again he informed me it was decayed but was Not pushy or anything when I told him I'll come back for that one. Not sure about these other reviews here, but my experience at this place has been A-OK. I've been there twice, once for an extraction and implant, and once for an extraction. Dr. Peskin is thoroughly professional and he seems to really know his business. Look, getting a tooth pulled is no fun, but Dr. Peskin explains the procedure completely before he starts and works fast and efficiently. True, he's not a hand holder: he just does his job and does it fast and well. When I see a dental surgeon, I don't want to see a buddy--I want to see somebody who does good work. They do ask for you to pay the amount that your insurance won't be paying at the time the service is done. What's wrong with that? I think every medical practitioner does that these days. read more

This is a long over due review, i saw Dr Peskin back in 2008 i believe, but Long story short, i was referred to Dr. Peskin by my family dentist. From what i remember from the 1st consultation, i was told that the dentist that did my root canals didn't do a good job at all (i was 19 at the time of my visit with Dr. Peskin & when i had gotten my root canals i was probably 12 years old). I totally believed him when he told me that because the the dentist that did my root canals did a horrible job,. Till this day i can REMEMBER ALL THE PAIN with the canals & not only that, when i got the shots for them they HURT LIKE NO OTHER PAIN IVE EVER FELT EVER IN LIFE. Plus he was watching Jeopardy while working on me...Seriously?! But i didnt know any better, i was only in the 7th grade at the time. . . . . Anyways back to this review, the procedure was pretty straight forward, i had 2 impacted wisdom teeth on my bottom row of teeth that needed to be removed due to infection. It was done under local anesthesia & didn't take no longer than possibly 30 minutes. The shots that i received, i didn't feel a thing, which he assured that i wouldn't. Shots, CHECK. He made sure i was completely numb, asking, if i felt anything before breaking out that nasty drill that we all hate. The teeth had to be broken into pieces to be removed, which he did. After, i was stitched up, given a prescription & was informed on after care. tadaaa here i am 7 years later writing this review. This goes to show, you WILL remember the GOOD & the BAD of those practicing dentistry. I'm glad Dr. Peskin is a memory of a positive experience. not to mention the 2 receptionists at the time were so super cute. (what's up girrrlll) read more

I have been seeing Dr. Peskin for more than 10 years now. I can also admit that I'm probably one of the most OCD people that you'll ever come across. I live in the general Libertyville / Mundelein / Vernon Hills area in which there are numerous Oral Surgeon's that my Dentist has referred me to for convenience. I would (and do) drive 45 minutes to Skokie (just across from Old Orchard Mall), to see Dr. Peskin. He and his staff are the best you'll find, hands down. Ten years ago I had a cyst in my lower jaw that had damaged my jaw bone so badly that if I had bitten the wrong way or too hard it would have cracked and broken my jaw! Dr. Peskin took the time to explain everything in detail, answered my million questions and concerns and then I was able to schedule an immediate appointment to have the surgery done. This then included several follow up visits to change out iodine packed strips that aid in infection prevention as well as curing the damaged area. He also sent samples in to ensure that it was not cancerous and kept me completely informed every step of the way. I made a full recovery from this and never once had a doubt about Dr. Peskin's outstanding skill and knowledge. Just recently I had to have two extractions performed and there was only one Surgeon that I was going to entrust my health with. Dr. Peskin again explained everything in full detail and performed the extractions as professionally as could be, again this being why I drove an hour in horrible traffic due to our first heavy rain of the year, coupled with morning rush hour traffic. In regards to the staff, they are the most friendly people that you will ever deal with at a professional doctors office. Additionally, they have been with Dr. Peskin for in excess of 10 years now that I'm personally aware of. That in of itself speaks to the professionalism of Dr. Peskin and the dedication of his staff that they have been working together for so long now. To summarize, I cannot say enough about the Outstanding Professionalism of Dr. Peskin and the Peskin Oral Surgery team. Everyone from the office staff to the nurses to Dr. Peskin are as high a quality as you will ever find. read more

Not sure what the negative reviews are all about. I had my lower left wisdom tooth removed 3 weeks ago by Dr. Peskin. Initial appointment was set very fast (1 week after I called). Dr. Peskin is nobody's sweetheart. He doesn't do small talk and will not be your friend. Deal with it. What he did do, however, was clearly explain the procedure, discuss the anesthesia options, and was upfront with cost. The actual procedure lasted less than 20 minutes, but with general anesthesia, it felt like a second, so I am glad I went with it. Dr. Peskin said the tooth ended up being very tough to extract but I remember none of it. Felt no pain, no stress, woke up and walked out 5 min after procedure. Contrary to what one previous reviewer said, there was a side room with a bed where I was told I could rest for as long as I wanted. I found the staff to be as friendly and helpful as any other medical practice I have been to. Again, it is not their job to hold your hand and be your friends. There was some swelling & pain the day after, and my jaw was sore for the next two weeks. Stitches fell off on their own 5 days after procedure. And that was it. I do wish I had paid a bit less (total ended up close to $1350 of which my insurance covered half) but fact of the matter is healthcare is way too expensive in this country period and whining about it will get you nowhere. Vote for universal healthcare or suck it up. In the mean time, cost aside, this was solid service, with great results. read more

I needed to get my wisdom teeth removed (sort of urgently), as the way they were growing were impacted and the roots were hitting nerves. I visited two other oral surgeons prior to visiting Dr. Peskin, both of which made me very worried that I would have permanent numbness in my face. However, when I had a consultation with Dr. Peskin, he assured me that while there is a risk, this is something he's done countless times and was confident I would have a full normal recovery. That confidence really helped me go through with the surgery. The process was flawless and recovery went well. I paid for the procedure upfront, then after consulting with my insurance, I was sent a refund for whatever I overpaid. Easy process, I would recommend coming here! DISHONEST! From my experience, Dr. Peskin running a dishonest and shady business. I went into surgery a few years ago and was given my out of pocket expense before the surgery. They required me to pay the amount prior to the surgery, which I did. After surgery, our of nowhere, the cost magically increased without being told or without warning. They never followed up with me after my surgery to see how I was doing or how I the recovery was going, rather they sent the bill to collections. When I called to discuss this with the office, they made up lies and refused to provide me with accurate information. They told me that Dr. Peskin doesn't have a phone or voicemail and that I would not be able to speak to him. Dr. Peskin should be ashamed of himself for running such a dishonest medical practice lacking in decency and integrity. read more

He also told me that I shouldn't waste his hour for the time I Pre- booked for surgery if I need to think about a serious surgery for which I will be sedated!! He is extremely condescending. The only positive thing about this place is that the front desk lady is actually quite nice although I found it strange that she collected money from us before the surgery. Even in restaurants, you pay after eating right?? Anyway, on to the real review. Dr Peskin is the rudest human being we have ever met! He hates answering questions, has God complex and speaks to patients in a condescending way. Absolutely no bedside manners. Why should this guy still be allowed to practice? After surgery, they don't have a good area for you to recover. It is just one bench and they hurriedly explain post surgery instructions and shoo you away. If you have a choice, I would go to someone else. I like my doctors to be thorough, willing to answer questions, and polite, and this guy was none of the above. I knew within 30 seconds of him entering the room that he was one of those "assembly line" docs who talked at a breakneck pace and didn't like to answer questions. I have a moderately serious medical condition and have had bad reactions to anesthesia in the past, so I had a lot of questions in regard to possible issues. He got noticeably annoyed the second I said I had questions, and then proceeded to give me curt "only 3% of people have problems with this" kinds of answers, which didn't really help, considering I was asking him about things that were concerned with my specific medical history. When I came back from getting x-rays, he gave me the lowdown on the results, and he was knowledgeable and concise as expected, I guess. But then I had to try to get him to answer my questions again, and the results were as bad as before. He became rude and condescending, saying that obviously he didn't use the same anesthesia as I'd had problems with "a long time ago." I'd had problems in 2005, not 1955! And why does he expect patients to know about changes in anesthesia in the past few years? All he had to do was explain the issue politely, not turn his nose up at me. I repeatedly had to ask him to stop interrupting me, and then he sneered at me and told me I was interrupting him. In the end, I was fairly confident I'd not trust him to do surgery on me. The actual procedure for getting an implant went well. No pain minimal discomfort. But the surgeon was rude. He was short and patronizing to both his staff and me. Plus the back office staff seemed like they had no clue what they were doing, and once he snapped at them, they'd snap at each other. Front office people are friendly. read more

I went to a consultation with Dr. Peskin regarding a tooth that was aching. As a technician was preparing to take a full mouth xray, I explained to her I only wanted a regular picture taken of the area in question (the aching tooth and the adjoining missing ones), not a panoramic picture. I asked to speak with Dr. Peskin, who came in and told the technician: "Ok, then take only those". I was charged $95 at the time of service, although I have insurance. They later charged me an additional $66. I learned from my insurance that a panoramic xray was submitted (which was not covered since I had had another one taken recently). I left a message with Dr. Peskin's office explaining the above. I never received a call back. Eventually his office called threatening with collections; I asked to speak with Dr. Peskin; I was told he was not available, but he would call me back. He didn't call back, but instead, the very next day I received a call from a collection company, asking for $66 + $19 interest. For a week I called their office on a daily basis; I could not speak with Dr. Peskin, although I left several messages. I eventually sent his office a fax, explaining the situation, and asking him to resubmit the charge. When he eventually called back, it was only to scream at me on the phone, using language so abusive and demeaning - that I had never thought I'd hear in a professional environment, much less from a health care provider. read more

I give Peskin Oral Surgery five stars! At my recent dental cleaning and check-up, my dentist told me I had a blocked saliva gland, or a mucocele, and that it was too deep to resolve on its own. I was referred to an oral surgeon who did not accept my insurance so it could be removed. I found Dr. Peskin through my insurance company and decided to see him instead. His office staff was very polite on the phone, told me all of the documents I needed to bring and were able to get me in right away. The office is pleasant and very efficiently run. The office staff was able to review my insurance information and I was only charged for what my insurance estimate said I would owe. I waited less than 10 minutes to be seen once I got in the office. Upon the examination, Dr. Peskin clearly explained the issue at hand, the procedure, and what to expect with recovery. I opted to have the mucocele removed that day and the procedure took less than 30 minutes. I left with four stitches in my mouth and written instructions. My swelling and pain were minimal. Dr. Peskin followed up with me personally two days later to go over my biopsy results and to see how I was doing. He stressed several times that if I had any concerns or additional questions to just call. The following week, my healing was going as it should, but I had one stitch that didn't dissolve and it was causing me some discomfort. I called the office and they got me in that same morning. Dr. Peskin examined my mouth and removed the remaining stitch at no extra charge. I'd like to stress that I practically grew up in a dentist office as my dad has been a dental technician for over 30 years. I've gotten to know bad oral health professionals and good ones. RIDICULOUS DR !!! AVOID !! I went to get two of my wisdom tooth extracted. It was EXTREMELY painful, when he gave me shots. I kept yelling / crying, there was NO HELP !! No professionalism or human element !! He left big thread, which was totally uncomfortable. This guy only works for 4 days a week and remaining days, he is not avalaible even for emergency calls and other dr he assisgns (Julie) would have no knowledge of his patients. After my surgery, I realized that he left a big thread in my teeth. That made my pain totally unbearable, as it was pulling my stitches. He was ofcourse unavalaible, then we left with no choise to see my regular dentist who did what he could. Then, he gave us appointment after 1 week to see us. He was so rude - "go back home" I can not help you if you have your regular dentist peek his nose in my work. VERY VERY RUDE and unprofessional. My husband was referred to Dr Peskin to have a tooth removed. When he called the office for an appointment they were booked for 2 weeks. The girl at the office said if the had a cancellation they would call. He booked the appointment and hopef to get that call. 2 days later the phone rang. They had an opening for this morning. The staff was polite and friendly. Dr. Peskin took care of the extraction and was very informative. Would recommend this office in the future. read more

Doctor Peskin did three dental implants for me. I've had dental implants from other oral surgeons and Doctor Peskin's work was "off-the-charts" better. Not only did he use better materials (my dentist informed me) but he also came in thousands of dollars less because he took my insurance. Doctor Peskin is a rare find. He's nice, his office staff is nice and he's an AWESOME oral surgeon!!! read more
