The snazzy, boujee experience caught me hook, line and sinker. Fancy 3D-XRay that is "probably" covered by insurance? Nope. $500 charge before you leave. No effort to even do the slightest bit of research to back up their claim that it was in- network. Halkias talked to me for an hour with the 3D X-Ray, using big words that he knew I wouldn't follow to try to confuse me into thinking he's an elite provider. After an outrageous consultant fee, a scam-esque 3D XRay maneuver, and a business model that purposely squeezes North Shore patients out with exclusive out-of-network procedure options, I can firmly say this is one of the scummiest businessmen in the area. He spent two hours with me feeding his own maniacal ego, and a few months later, I just had my teeth done by John Brunetti who didn't put me through a quarter of the BS that Halkias did. Don't let Halkias scare and scam you. Find some place with less "pizzaz" that is in network. ***clarifying edit***: Just to be clear, they did not offer me the option to NOT use the 3D XRay. They saw my normal imaging from my dentist, saw that they might need more imaging, then told me "The doctor is ordering a 3D Xray. It should be covered by insurance. We'll take you in now." No question. No concern. No pause. Just fully kept me rushing (probably) knowing full well they would be getting $500 out of pocket for me. Can't emphasize enough how scummy that was. read more

So disappointed. While the care provided was good, I was shocked by their lack of interest in my insurance issue and my request for consideration in bringing a second patient there in less than six months. After my insurance company pledged to pay $2,000 toward the cost but only paid $1,000, I asked the office for some kind of assistance in pursuing additional recovery from my insurance company. I was told that they don't get involved and the insurance company could do whatever it wanted. When I asked if they would consider a somewhat reduced fee as I had a second child who needed the exact same procedure (diagnosed by our dentist less than six months after the first child and would be scheduling soon), I was told that they don't do that. Friends told me that their oral surgeon (in another suburb) knocked $500 off their bill with a second child having the same procedure a year later. After paying more than $2,500 out of pocket for the procedure for the first child, I would have expected some kind of consideration for bringing a second child with the same issue. Decided to go elsewhere because I could not afford a second procedure at the price charged here with no help on insurance issues or consideration as a return patient. read more

HIPAA Violation + Scam + Incompetence = Stay away! Where to start? I shouldn't need to say anything more for you to look elsewhere, but just in case you want details... here it is. I had a procedure done to remove gum which had high potential for infection. So then comes the bill. I have NEVER had issues with my insurance (very good insurance). Comments like "I can't believe your insurance offers this option" or "I have never seen insurance cover such a large portion of the bill" is what I usually get from the docs office. So I moved to Chicago and needed to find an oral surgeon. I find one conveniently located in between my work and home. I yelp Oral Surgery Associates, and see the issues on billing, but think to my self "these people must have poor insurance". Boy was I wrong. I got the bill. 0% covered by insurance. I call the office and tell them that this must be a mistake. They explain that my insurance does not cover a sequestrectomy , and the anesthesia. I was told there was nothing they could do and my insurance was at fault. Followed by "we need payment". I knew this was incorrect so I called my insurance. Turns out that they were filing medical rather than dental. I eventually taught their billing department who to bill. Again my bill came back at 0% coverage. So I follow up with my insurance to find they have not submitted the correct information. I was told "there is nothing more we can submit, and I need to pay my bill" from the office on Peterson. I requested all information submitted to my insurance. THEY SENT ME ANOTHER PATIENTS INFORMATION! I realized they never sent the information requested to my insurance after receiving MY information. So I requested they send in the correct information which was refused by the Peterson as they "already sent all that is needed". So I go in their office on a Saturday. They eventually agree to send in the requested information. Boom, majority of Anesthesia is covered within a week. Followed by the majority of the sequestectomy covered a couple weeks later. In addition to getting coverage, the "In-Network price" was hundreds less than the full amount they were trying to jack me for out of pocket. To tie everything together... This ordeal took about 6 months while I was getting letters about being "over due" and possibly sent to collections. Unbelievable. read more

5 stars for surgeon. 2 stars for office. The billing dept stinks. Our child had oral surgery over 6 months ago. Surgeon was great. Both medical and dental said they would cover and we haven't had issues in the past with either insurance. We called them ahead of time. We also paid at time of surgery and both insurances paid. Somehow office messed up the billing. Not only did we lose few hundred, we lost so much time between several phone calls over several months with their office and both medical and dental insurance. Each time they say something different. Office is disorganized. We scheduled a post op followup as they instructed. They had no records of the appt though we had an appt card confirming. Luckily the surgeon was available that day. Scheduling the surgery was not easy either with them. Our family has been through medical and dental procedures, hospitalizations, and braces. I was very pleased with my service from OSA Skokie location. I have very intense dental phobia which caused me to wait for years to finally get my wisdom teeth out. Dr. Halkias was very easy to talk to and was very kind and thorough during the consultation. I think he could sense my anxiety. I called the office one time before my extraction amidst a bought of anxiety about being put to sleep and the receptionist very kindly assuaged my fears. The extraction itself went smoothly, slept through it all and experienced very minimal pain. The office called me the day after to check on me which I appreciated. However, after a few days, I developed a dry socket with intense pain and was able to reach Dr. Herzog who was on call on a Sunday and then came in first thing Monday a.m. He simply applied some topical medicine and I feel 100% better. For me, someone with a paralyzing fear of all things dental work, to admit that the whole process wasn't too bad-- means a lot! read more

We've had multiple problems with this practice in more than one of their office locations. They made multiple errors on payment and billing issues, as well as scheduling - with a snarkiness towards patients that dare to raise an issue with them. This includes the dentist as well as the office staff. Not only have we personally experienced this, but two out of three times we were in their waiting rooms (Skokie and Peterson), there were other patients and their families dealing with similar treatment. Patient beware, the staff is very incompetent. Their computer for X-rays were down the day of my appointment. After waiting an hour, they told me they would call me to reschedule. 4 days later I hadn't heard back from them so I called their office to reschedule. My son had 4 wisdom teeth extracted 5 days ago by Dr. Herzog in the Peterson office. First, I started by taking him to the Old Orchard office by mistake. The receptionist called ahead to the Peterson office to let them know we'd be late. The staff and Dr Herzog were very nice about it. Seems there wasn't a patient after us. Surgery went well. Dr Herzog and assistant Julie were both very nice and explained everything thoroughly. Later that night we got a follow up call, from the surgeon himself. So far, healing is going well. Had to pay 1/2 up front. Roughly $1900. We don't have dental, only medical insurance so hopefully the billing and coverage will go all right. We are very satisfied. read more

I had a bump on my tongue which needed removal. The office was very nice, including my surgeon Dr. Herzog. However, I don't think he considered my needs for pain and anxiety relief. I asked up front for something to relax me like Valium or laughing gas-- common offerings in surgeries like these. Unfortunately my request was dismissed as unnecessary. Day of, same dismissal. The surgery lasted an hour, with only novocaine. They had to pull on my tongue in a spot that was not numb, which was very painful. The surgery was very stressful-- my heart rate was way up there. Afterwards, the stitches did not hold so my recovery was very painful for at least 4 days. During the followup appointment, I gave the feedback that the surgery was pretty awful for me and that in the future I suggest he listen to a patient's request for something calming. Sadly, he was dismissive again, which is why I'm writing this review. I wish I didn't have such a negative experience, because Dr. Herzog is a kind person and he did remove the bump, but I feel that a patient's comfort should also be a high priority. read more

Have an HMO dental plan from my job, needed all 4 wisdom teeth removed. In my 50's, and was not looking forward to it at all. Oral Surgery Associates was covered on my plan. From start to finish, I was totally impressed. Surgery went a lot better than I ever aniticipated, had to go back a few times because of one tooth (nothing to do with what they did/or didn't do) just had a minor problem. Had absolutely no problem making appointments asap. Cannot say enough as to how pleased I was with Dr. Papadimitriou and all the others. Thanks! read more

I came here this past week to get my wisdom tooth removed. I'm not sure why this place has such negative reviews considering I had a very positive experience and am very happy that I chose to come here. The receptionists and dental assistants were very nice and answered the questions that I had. Yes, I had to pay a fee to get my consultation and my x-rays, which they had disclosed to me before I came in for the visit. I did not have dental insurance and my health insurance would not cover the extraction since my tooth was not fully impacted. They gave me quotes for the procedure with local anesthetic and with general anesthetic so that I could make a decision for which one I wanted. I ended up going with local since it was cheaper. Dr. Halkias performed my extraction and he was absolutely wonderful! He made me feel extremely comfortable and helped a little with my anxiety. He answered every question that I had, and even had me visit the office when I was feeling pain several days later to help try to alleviate it. One of the best oral surgeons ever! I highly recommend this place and Dr. Halkias. read more
